1st gen 24" iMac will not load

My iMac just locked up during normal use. After power off, it locks up trying to do anything, won't boot OSX, XP , leopard install disk, hardware test or safe mode. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have tried both many times over. Tried tiger and leopard install disks. I would content if I could just get this thing to boot the cd so I could just reload everything

    Hello KCC4ME,
You may try booting your Mac in Safe Boot, as it can resolve many issues that may prevent a successful login.

If a Safe Boot allows you to successfully log in, you may have issues with one or more login itmes (while the following article is labelled as a Mavericks article, it is viable for earlier versions of the Mac OS, as well).

  • IMac will not load internnet sites despite it having all green lights on the Network Diagnostics screen.  In other words there is a valid internet signal going into the iMac, but the machine will not load sites. Help? iOS 10.9.5

iMac will not load internet sites, despite having all green lights (strong WiFi signal etc) on the Network Diagnostics screen. in other words there is a strong
internet wifi signal going into the iMac but the machine does not connect to the internet.  I OS 10.9.5.  Other devices work fine with the same internet signal.

    iOS 10.9.5 does not exist.
iOS refers to the operating system on iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touch.
10.9.5 was never a version of a Classic operating system.
10.9.5 was a version of Mac OS X, and is 13 years newer than Classic.
Here are reasons for WiFi signal to fail even when they appear to be strong:
    Most common Wifi issues
Your Mac may be too close to your WiFi router, in which case, it might be better to connect to it via an ethernet cable if it can't be moved.

  • 1st gen iPod Touch does not load completely

I just recently bought a 4th gen iPod Touch to replace my 1st generation one. The new iPod works fine, but the old one will not boot up. When I press the Wake button, it appears to be loading fine for about 30 seconds, but then it just stops. I know battery life isn't the issue because I had it syncing with my laptop for a few hours.

But if this is your old iPod, perhaps it is the battery. It may no longer be able to hold charge, that's what happens to old batteries.
Have you tried turning it on while it's connected to power? When you unplug the iPod from any power and try turning it on, look at the battery icon (if it's there). Is it full when it turns on and what level does it show just before it turns itself off again?

  • My IMac will not load installation software for Mobile Internet USB Plug

Hi, I have a new IMac(Leopard), and have recently loaded a new USB Mobile Internet Plug (SFR France) on to the machine in order to access the internet/mobileme.We live on a boat in France so being "connected" is so important to us.
The installation software is in the USB plug, it loaded successfully, connected and worked well for a period of time.
The IMac then seemed to "forget" the application, and did not open correctly and I had to "force quit" to continue.
I then removed the application and any bits I could find in other folders, and tried to re-install by inserting the plug again. The Icon to install only flashed on the desk top and disappeared so I could not perform this task.
I even tried to "restore" from Time Machine (and my external hard drive), the icon to install appeared on the desktop and I installed the application, but when I clicked onto the "connection icon" it jammed again and did not load.
I checked the status of the installation device by loading the program successfully on the Macbook Pro I have, and even loaded it onto a Dell PC and even had it checked at SFR, and all ok. So it appears the problem is with the IMac.
Any advice suggestions would be greatly appreciated, it is so frustrating!

I have had similar problems with both Sprint and Verizon units (Novatel u727 & u760). Solved both by going to provider sites and downloading SW.

  • My ipod touch 1st gen 16 gb will not connect to itunes, it keeps sayin the Apple Mobile Device service is not started...how do i get it working?

my touch 1st gen won't work
everytime i connect it. it says This ipod cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device Service is not started.
    what do i do?

  • My Apple TV (1st Gen -- 160 GB) will not show up under devices in iTunes using Windows 8. Has anyone else had this problem?

    hi

doubt there is an incompatability between atv and windows8
as if that was the same this forum would have a lot more posts about it then yours
go to the settings inside your appletv
unlink it with whatever computer it see itself as being linked to
    after the restart
    set it to link
go to itunes on windows 8 and look for it
type in the 4 didgets and and have it sync
itunes 11 is the same app on win7 as on win8
all my drivers for netcards and the likes in win8 was not updated when I updated from win7
what apple support tells you is pretty much that appletv1g is a dead product which will never get updates again
this is not the same as it will not work any more

  • My iMac will not load webpages, but my internet connection is fine.

I was watching a video on Hulu, and suddently I got a error that the website could not load. Since then, I can't load most pages (yet oddly I have found one page that still works.) Network diagnostics says that everything is working fine... and I can still connect to everything just fine with with my MacBook and iPhone on the same network. I have the same problem whether I am trying to use Safari or Google Chrome. Any ideas about what could make this happen all of a sudden? I have tried everything I have ever done when faced with a connectivity problem - I'm thinking it must be some specific setting on the computer that got messed up somehow.

Try using different DNS servers like OpenDNS (208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220).

  • Imac will not load osx on my imac 24"

I have purchased an Imac of ebay that would not boot up. it is the aluminium model 2007/8 2.8ghz intel processor
I have replaced the hard drive to a 1tb, and purchased Snow leopard from apple store. when I boot up I get the chimes and the apple logo with spinner then it just gets a black screen and shuts down and restarts. I have rest pram and booted holding option key but to no avail.  Anyone know whats going on here//
By the way I have installed windows 7 no problem so why not snow leopard????? I am typing this on the machine now :-)

What does the disk look like and what does it say on the disc?
There is, also, the possibility that your iMac's internal optical may not be working or is failing.
You first, may need to purchase an externally connected optical drive to boot your iMac from.
Not all optical drives are Mac compatible.
Most Mac compatible drives you will only find to be purchased online.
Here are two on Amazon.com that are cheap and Mac compatible

Here's another source for Mac compatible optical drives. These are better quality optical drives.
These are also tray loading drives.

This is why you never, EVER purchase a computer off of eBay.
You have no real idea of its working condition and you have very little recourse if there is something majorly wrong a computer.
Buying from a legitimate authorised Mac reseller where you'll be guatanteed of a perefectly working used Mac and a place to call if you have hardware issues within a certain period of time. A most Apple resellers will have warranty periods of, at least 30 days provisions for longer warranties of up to a year if your used Mac develops issues.

1st generation Ipod Touch.  I ran an update on my ITunes on my PC, and my IPOD will no longer connect to my itunes.  Please help.  If at all possible.

iTunes 11 works with all model iPods.
If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar

  • IMac will not load web pages, but high speed internet.

    Hi all,
I upgraded my internet yesterday to 100Mbps, and received a modem + router combo from my ISP (Charter). It is a Netgear CG3000D and I have another router hooked up, which is a Cisco/Linksys E3200. The problem I'm encountering is extremely slow page speeds, it'll take from 3 to 5 minutes for pages to load. My first thought was DNS, but of course I tried Google's Public DNS and OpenDNS. Unfortunately, they did not work. I called both the ISP and router manufacturer, but still no luck. I called Apple, but I'm not paying $49 for additional support. I'm assuming my Mac is caching something it's not supposed to. I do not live near an Apple store to see what's wrong. I went into safe mode and the issue still hasn't been resolved. There's multiple devices working fine, and I've noticed when my Mac is connected to my router, my PC goes haywire as well. And FYI -- I connected my iMac directly to the ISP's modem/router and it didn't work either.
    Internet/Cable > Netgear CG3000D > Cisco/Linksys E3200 > iMac
    Please help! Much appreciated.
    Take care,
    Tyler

  • 1st Gen Intel IMac - Will Tiger to Snow Leopard upgrade work?

My IMac dates from late 2006 & was purchased when Apple first started selling the Intel Dual Core machines. Here's my specs:
    Model Identifier:    iMac4,1
      Processor Name:    Intel Core Duo
      Processor Speed:    2 GHz
      Number Of Processors:    1
      Total Number Of Cores:    2
L2 Cache (per processor):    2 MB
      Memory:    2 GB
      Bus Speed:    667 MHz
Graphics card is an ATI Radeon X1600
      Current Tiger version is 10.4.11
Disk space not an issue, have > 177 GB available
Snow Leopard supposedly requires only 1 MB of RAM, but I've seen other discussions with commenters recommending 2 MB minimum (kinda took me back to my PC days..."look at the specs on the Microsoft package and double them"). I haven't opened the Snow Leopard package yet, so I can still return it if necessary. So what do the community's experts think...will I be able to do the upgrade without any problems, or am I setting myself up for a world of pain? Thanks in advance to all!

Yes you can, as the great Kappy guy sez, but the Core Duo only supports 32 bit mode, not 64 bit mode. & 10.6.x is as far as you'll ever be able to upgrade it.
Do max the RAM out if it isn't already...

  • My iMac will not load since a power flux

Today there was a power flux as i was using my iMac. I did not try to turn it on for 2-3hrs after the iMac screen went black as it turned off due to lack of power. Later i did try to turn the computer on twice, after unplugging it in. Each time I did turn it on the screen lights up with a white background, grey Apple logo, grey pinwheel turning, then switches to a white screen with nothing and the only response to a left mouse click is the rainbow pinwheel for a time, then nothing but a mouse arrow with the whte screen. The only way I can turn it off is by unplugging it since the power button does not respond.
    Help, Please!

First work thru the steps at > Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup
Then if you get no where with that, go to > OS X: About OS X Recovery

  • 1st Gen Ipod Touch will not charge...arghhhhhh!!!

I have been trying to charge my ipod touch for days now. It will do everything except charge. When I plug it into my mac the battery symbol shows the charge indicator for a couple of minutes then changes to the fully charged symbol, but the battery remains only 10% charged. After a few more minute it then switches itself off. Occasionally the battery indicator will show up as 50% charged but if I switch it off and on it goes back to 10% very frustrating.
I have tried charging it overnight using 3 different USB cables plugged directly into my Mac, a firewire mains adapter and 2 different Ipod Speakers still nothing.
I have restored it a number of times to the original settings and have upgraded to 3.0 to see if that would fix it all to no avail.
    Can someone help me pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

Is it quite easy to replace them?
I suppose it is 'for one skilled in the art' - if you didn't get Applecare and are out of warranty, do a little Googling and you will find several places that do touch battery replacement.
