1st Gen Apple TV Sync issues.

Hello,
I had my atv syncing with my mac over wifi. Suddenly it stopped, i have made no changes other than usual system updates. My mac is connected via ethernet and airport. If I go into my system setting on the mac and disable the ethernet port the ATV will sync over wifi, however if i leave both connections open on my mac, the atv wont appear. I never had this problem before. Any idea's ??
Thanks.
rany

Did you update to the new iOS for ATV? I would recommend try leaving one of the connections off...... either ethernet or WiFi as there isn't any reason to have both to your apple TV.. I just upgraded to ATV@. It will not recognize connection if both ethernet and WiFi are simultaneously connected under ATV iOS 4.1 I had not difficulties syncing my 1st Gen ATV via WiFi or internet use. Hope this helps......... I think you actually solved your own problem if I understood it.

  • Ive got a 1st gen apple TV wifi issues help please.

Ive got a 1st gen apple TV, had it about 4 years and I cannot get it work over wifi for the past 2 years. If its wired with network cable it works. If using wifi I either get no movies on appletv or sometimes it syncs and lists all my movies in Itunes but when I try and play any movies it says video format not recignized. Ive disconnect the Ethernet cable from the Apple TV. Navigated to Settings > General > Network. Click Configure Wireless.Selecte my wireless network and entered password then done. see "Connecting to wireless network" screen appears then "Connection Succeeded" I see IP address, Wi-Fi Address, and signal strength is strong all bars. Any ideas as to What the heck is wrong with this AppleTV.

Doesn't sound good if you've restore to factory from the diagnostics menus and are seeing this.
Have you unplugged from the main for a few mins and restarted.  Disconnect any ethernet cables if you have them.

  • 1st gen Apple TV - synced photos not visible

I have my iTunes set to sync all my photos with my 1st gen Apple TV and this has worked flawlessly until today.
Although the "settings" tab on iTunes shows all my photos are synced, on the Apple TV when I go to my Photos tab I get the error message that "there are no photos on your Apple TV  - to sync photos set up a connection with iTunes"
I do have a connection with iTunes - all my other media is synced, and according to iTunes the photos should be there too.
I'm at a loss as to what to do, and would be grateful for any advice.
    Thanks in advance

Have you tried de/re authorising your computer.

  • 2nd gen Apple TV sync issues

Just wondering if anyone one else is seeing this problem and if they know of any fixes/workarounds. I have several movie files that have some corrupt frames. If I play them back with my 1st generation apple tv or iTunes they play with no problems, it just plays through the corrupt frames. When I play the same movie with the 2nd gen apple tv when it gets to the corrupt frames the video stops and the audio keeps going. Sometimes if I hit pause then play it will work and start playing OK. Sometimes I have to fast forward a bit. After doing this a few times the movie will finally jump back several chapters.
Also is apple looking into a fix for this problem?
    TIA for any help.

If the movie file is corrupt, almost anything might happen in some circumstances. I wouldn't have thought you can expect Apple to resolve an issue that is caused by a corrupt video file.

  • HT1498 (1st Gen) Apple TV Rental issues:

Last 2 rentals I have purchased through my 1st generation Apple TV have appeared to download fine, however when I go to play all it shows is a white screen with no sound. Has anyone else experienced this. Were you able to come up with a solution? Thank You.

Try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds, or resetting it using the reset option under general. You should also try restarting your router or de/re authorising your iTunes library.

  • 1st gen apple tv not showing all movies synced from iTunes.

I have 30 movies in iTunes library that I synced to my 1st gen Apple TV.  I have viewed several of these movies in the past on the Apple TV but some are not coming up in the listings anymore.  I go back to iTunes and still see that they are still stored/synced to the Apple TV.  Why can't I see them listed anymore? (Can't see them under 'Watched' or 'Unwatched')

    Hi clur,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues with your Apple TV and the most recent iTunes 12 upgrade. If you continue to have issues with your 1st Gen Apple TV not showing up in iTunes, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:

  • Apple tv 1st gen starts to sync then freezes up

wanted to add somemore christmas tunes to my 1st gen. apple tv.would not let me sync.did everything the set-up shows.apple support said to reset atv back to factory settings.I would loose content (14,000 songs)but could sync them over again. Now everytime I try to sync itunes to atv it does 50 to 400 songs and seems to freeze up.Sync wheel still spinning but stays on same song.Tech support wants $40.00 for one time shot to talk to them. Can get used atv2 on ebay for $60.00.Not that I would ever buy another apple product ever again with such crap customer survice.Any one have any Ideas? Tried to sync both with auto and custom with same results.   Jeff (greytdog)

If you want more space or take certain things off then just manualy select what you want on it. I just check the shows I want on it the when I want them off I uncheck them and then resync he ATv to get them off etc.. Easy as pie....pi !
As for the purchased items not going away, scroll down to make sure that playlist is not checked on the computer under movies or shows etc...

  • TS1447 Apple TV (1st Gen) Won't Sync

I'm running OSX 10.8.4, and iTunes 11.0.4(4).  My 1st Gen Apple TV recently stopped syncing.  It says to check the firewall settings, but incoming connections are permitted and it fails to sync even w/ the firewall off.  Any ideas?

I would try to connect it by ethernet to see if that fix it
and I would consider to unpair it in the appletv's settings and set it up again causing a full sync

  • Music Gone from 1st Gen Apple TV after iTunes upgrade to 10.1.1 (4)

I use a 1st Gen Apple TV to store and play all my music throughout my home. It's perfect for that because I don't have to stream from my computer (as with 2nd Gen Apple TV) and can control the music from all over the house from the Remote App on my iPad and iPhone. After I upgraded to iTunes 10.1.1 this week I synced my Apple TV with my computer to add some new music to it from iTunes. All of my music promptly disappeared from my Apple TV. It may have still been there, but didn't show in iTunes on my computer or on my iPad or iPhone remote apps.
My first thought was that I might have to do a restore on the Apple TV and then re-sync with my computer's iTunes. Before doing that, however, I simply re-synced all of my music to the Apple TV from my computer. It worked and now all of the music is available again.

    had the same problem once
went to the appletv's settings and unlinked it with the computer
let it do it's restart and clear synced data
set it up to link with the same computer once more
and let it sync the data once more
    haven't have issues since
but described the solution to many in this forum who had the same issue

  • How do I get Faces in iPhoto to appear on my 2ed gen Apple TV. The appear on my 1st gen Apple TV with Photos and Events.

How do I sync Faces in iphoto to iTunes and then to my 2ed gen Apple TV so I can show Events,Photos or Faces on my TV? On another TV which I have connected a 1st gen Apple TV all three appear, so some how the 1st gen is sync'ing with itunes but not so with the 2ed gen Apple TV as I ony get Events and Photos on the TV screen.

To choose which photos to show on your Apple TV
File > HomeSharing > Choose Photos to share with Apple TV
The dialogue box that opens lets you select what photos to send over

  • 1st gen Apple TV - SD TV - no color

I'm seeing only b&w with my 1st gen Apple TV connected to an SD TV through a component to composite converter. Why don't I have color?

    Thanks for your response.
I was actually wondering about iTunes updates, not Apple TV.  The problem is that iTunes does not show tabs for syncing my 1st Gen. Apple TV.  I wonder if the problem is in iTunes.
My Apple TV does still remember music and photos that were previously synced, but I can't re-sync to add new music and photos.
I am worried that if I unlink and re-sync, I won't be able to get anything back, and will be limited only to streaming.
    Thoughts?

  • 1st gen apple tv.

I have a 1st gen apple tv. I have always and only streamed from my 1T TC. What has heppened is: it follows menus to the selected movie and when i select the movie, the 1st 1 second of video plays and then freezes.  The audio continues for i don't know how long because i stop it.  I have tried to sync a movie to it (wirelessly) and it tells me i have to open port 336(?)
    1. Anyone know how i can fix the streaming?  or how to open a port so i can try syncing...
I'd rather stream as i have 100's of movies to stream

    Applications>Utilities>Terminal
sudo ipfw add allow ip from 336 to 336
    sudo reboot
If this does not work, try connecting the Apple TV to the Time Capsule via ethernet.
    WARNING
Before entering sudo reboot, save any open files. You will lose all changes during the reboot.
You will need an admin password. The characters will not show when entering the password.
Also, you could go to Settings>Computers>Your Library.
Then go to Settings>Computers>Add iTunes Library. A code will be displayed. In iTunes, go to iTunes>Prefrences>Apple TV>Remove.
After that, restart iTunes. Your Apple TV should appear under Devices. Select it and enter the code.
If that doesn't work, I don't know what will.

  • Hi, I have the 1st gen apple tv and suddenly when trying to rent a movie I only see movie trailors or my movies. What do I do to see the rental interface??

hi i have the 1st gen apple tv and suddenly when trying to rent a movie i don't see the rental interface. i did a factory restore and now i see movie trailors and my movies but not rental option. any idea what could be wrong??

Judging by all the posts on the forum, there seems to be an issue at Apple's end, although they have made no announcement on their status page. Some users have reported that Apple is aware of the issue. You can leave feedback for Apple at the link below.

  • HT1498 What has happened to movie rental in 1st gen Apple TV as the option has  disappeared ?

Apple TV now only shows my movies and trailers. Does not seem to want to connect to iTunes Store. Is this Apple shutting down 1st gen Apple TV ?

I suspect what you are ssing is a symptom of a wide-spread issue with ATV's right now [though looks to be primarily Gen 1 units].  There's an existing topic here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/25524317#25524317
Another thread suggested to click "I have this question too" in the thread above, and identify the generation of your device in a reply (As it may affect other generations as well.), so that it's all collected in one place.I was aslo suggested to submit the bug via the feedback page https://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html
Looks like Apple sent out a Bad Easter Egg for us 1st gen'rs, but they appear to be working on it. At the very least they are aware of the issue. I doubt it was deliberate as there was no official notice of discontinuation of support.
