1st Gen Apple TV won't play iTunes purchased movie

I purchased a movie (not HD) on iTunes and cannot play it on my 1st gen Apple TV.  My older movies are still there to be viewed.  Any thoughts?

Does it appear in the movie list on the AppleTV1 but won't play?  Does it give an error?
Try purchasing something on AppleTV1 direct - check in iTunes you may find a free episode of a TV Show or similar.  I had an issue last year with new content until I purchased something else on AppleTV - i assumed it was some kind of authorisation getting updated.

  • 1stGen Apple TV Won't Play Newly Purchased Movies

I have a 1stGen Apple TV and just purchased 2 movies on my computer via the iTunes Store. When I try to play them on my 1stGen Apple TV It shows the movies on my "Shared Movies" Menue, but won't play the content. On the main menue it shows them at being 0sec long. I can navigate through the movie content menues, but can not play any of the content. All other movies work just fine, just these newly purchased ones....I have tried everything and nothing works.

You might try copying the HD movies to your desktop, then deleting the listing and original from iTunes, iTunes should then let you re-download an SD version for the Apple TV 1. You can then re-import the HD version from your desktop.

  • 1st Gen Apple TV not Syncing to iTunes

Hi I have a 1st generation Apple Tv and for some reason I cannot see it on iTunes thus cannot sync it.  I have unplugged it and reset it a couple of times but still nothing cming up in iTunes.  The good news is that whats on the Apple TV is working.  Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for any help and advice that can be provided.
    Jon

I'm having the same problem.  Waiting for Josh from Apple Support to call me back to help get icon back.  I spoke with him about 2 weeks ago and we tried several things that didn't work.  I didn't have time then to go through a process of getting it back so he gave me his name and phone number to make an appointment to fix this problem.  Might have happened with the last update of iTunes.

  • Apple TV won't play my downloaded movie

I just got an Apple TV 3 a couple weeks ago, have already successfully downloaded one movie and watched it with no problems.  I downloaded another (Hunger Games) movie this week and when I turned my Apple TV on to watch it, it said "Hunger Games is now ready to watch, click to play" however when I click to play it says it will be ready to play in 28 hours or so.  The movie is completely downloaded so I am not sure why it won't play.  I have tried resetting my Apple TV and unplugging it and the router.  Puchased all movies through iTunes.  Please let me know if you have any suggestions! Thank you!

Use Google’s Public DNS Server To Fix Apple TV Streaming Problems
    1. Navigate to Settings >> General >> Network and select Configure TCP/IP.
    2. Select “Manually” next to Configure IP.
    3. Dont change the IP address or the Subnet Mask and Router Address. Just click "Done".
    4. Set the DNS Address screen with the following: 008.008.008.008 and click “Done.”
You should now be able to stream more smoothly on your Apple TV.
If this works for you, please buy a cup of coffee for a complete stranger or some other selfless, random act of kindness.

  • Why cant iPad 3 play iTunes purchased movies?

So I've got an iPad 3 or not so new 'new' ipad with retina dsiplay and haven't ever had issues before in syncing or playing HD or SD movies on it.
Recently, I'm guessing after one of the recent updates I can't sync a purchased movie or TV show such as "Anchorman" or "Game of Thrones season 3 - Ep1" to my iPad 3.
I get an error msg saying that these movies or TV shows weren't synced to the ipad because the ipad can't play that file?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but an iPad with Retina display should be able to play any downloaded purchased movie wetc from the itunes store.
This is really irritating as the main reason I have this thing is to sync movies and TV shows to watch while travelling on planes etc.
And yes, I realise I could probably download them straight to the iPad through ym purchased link in the itunes store or something but that sort of defeats the purpose and takes much longer than a sync.
Please help its driving me nuts......
P.S - I'm no iPad nor iOS or OSX noob, and have had an iPad of some sort since the first day they were released.

The only thing that I could suggest is the really basic stuff which I'm sure that you already tried, reboot the iPad, quit iTunes, restart your computer and try again ....
I understand the principle behind being able to sync as it should, but sometimes trying to get to the bottom of something like this can be like beating your head against the wall and you never get anywhere. My point is, you may have to just "bite the bullet" and delete the show from the iPad and download it again.
I have had to do that a couple of times with purchased movies that would not sync or play correctly on the iPad.

  • ATV 3 won't play my purchased movies from the cloud

    Hi,
Since updating the software, my ATV3 wont play any movies I have previously purchased. I can download them from the cloud to my mac and stream from there, but the ATV tries to play thethen says it can't connect to the iTunes server. I can browse the rentals with no issue though.
    Any suggestions?

Thanks to all those who looked and are as clueless as me.  I have solved this problem but I still do not understand it.
I will pass on what happened and maybe it will help you.
I keep my iTunes purchases on my D drive, not in My Music on the C drive.  I did this to save space on the C.  I have done this for years and it was after an iTunes update that the problems started.  All this time I have been trying to play these files and have been getting the "Windows Has Detected A Problem" or some such.
I have my iTunes purchases backed up on 2 different external drives and yesterday it finally dawned on me that I should try to play one of those.  And Yes!  It worked.  Every one I have tried plays with no problems.
So like I said, I don't understand what happened.

  • Itunes 7.1.1 crashes when play Itunes purchased movie/video

I have Vista Home Premium running on an HP Pavillion M7790Y. I just installed Itunes 7.1.1, music plays fine but when I play a movie purchased on itunes, it begins then gets stuck and then ultimately crashes. Any ideas?

I personally can't see how iTunes would work
differently with SATA drives or IDE drives - the OS
does that. Then again, strange things do happen!
You're looking at it the wrong way, most likely.
It isn't that iTunes works differently with SATA. It's that something in the SATA drivers doesn't like the way iTunes (really QuickTime, actually) is accessing the disks.
But yes, I have Vista Ultimate, iTunes 7.1.1 and SATA
drives. As will nearly everybody else who has bought
a new PC in the last two years or so. I'd assume this
    to be a widespread problem!
Actually SATA drives in typical home PCs are a relatively recent phenomenon, and Vista is obviously brand new. That said, most new PCs other than the lowest end ones now have SATA drives and run Vista, so if this really is a SATA + Vista problem (and again, no one has definitively proven that it is) it will begin to affect large numbers of people soon.
Edit to add... I just copied a downloaded video onto
my FreeNAS box, which uses a CIFS connection. I
opened the video in Quicktime and - it plays
perfectly fine. So there you go, it looks confirmed.
    How silly! Fix it Apple!!!
Yup, doing something like that would have been one of my suggested workarounds. In my case I have both IDE and SATA drives in my system, so I put my iTunes folder on my IDE drive for now.
Gotta tell you, this drove me absolutely nuts for nearly two weeks when I first upgraded to Vista, which is one of the reasons I post about it a lot - so others doing a Google search will find these posts and know they're not alone.

  • Error message when trying to play iTunes purchased movies

    Hi,
I have purchased a TV show from iTunes using my Apple TV 3rd generation and whenever I attempt to view the purchased item a message appears on the TV saying "An error occurred loading this content. Please try again later".
I have tried power cycling, restarting the router, resetting and restoring, without any success.
    Any ideas?
    All help appreciated.
    Thanks.

After fiddling around with it, I have managed to fix this by adjusting the Internet speed preferences in the Apple TV settings menu.
Hope this helps someone else with the same problem.

  • If I can stream HD on my 1st gen Apple TV can I expect same from 2nd gen?

I just rented Legend of the Guardians in HD on my 1st gen Apple TV and it played instantly at 12pm on Sunday. My connection is 15 mbits according to DSLreports. Can I expect the same performance from Apple TV version 2? When I got the 1st generation Apple TV it sucked for streaming HD and now I never use it for that because the experience was so frustrating. I got an Apple TV 2 for Christmas and I'm trying to decide if I should return it before opening it. Netflix is the main appeal but I can get a bluray player that streams netflix, vudu and more for about the same price. More reliable HD streaming from Apple might be enough for me to keep it.

I have 3 Apple tv's one that is the 1st gen I think 40 gb one that is 160 gb and finally the streaming one. I think that the newer one for me seems to suffer maybe a little more interference than the 1st gen models. My fix with suggestion was to have it run on the 5GHZ side maybe it was interference I don't really know all I know that I can stream movies no problem. I do have cable service at 20 mbps it should have no problems but running at 2.4 I did have problems saying it would take hours before I could watch the movie.I download on Itunes HD movies.

  • My Apple TV 1st gen will now no longer play any of our iTunes music, although it shows a speaker symbol when you select play on the track. Please help?

My Apple TV 1st gen will now no longer play any of our iTunes music, although it shows a speaker symbol when you select play on the track. Please help?

Are you streaming or syncing you music? Sounds like you're streaming music directly from iTunes.
There can be many different issues. First, try power-cycling you wireless router (leave router disconnected for about 1 or 2 minutes) to refresh the wireless communication betweek both devices.
Make sure all software updates have been installed, for Apple TV and iTunes.
