1st gen ipad screen going black at random times.

Powers back on to the page I was just on. Have powered on and off completely and am using current OS. Any ideas?

The fact that the iPad will return to the app that were just using - after the screen goes black - is very odd to me. The apps aren't crashing or you would be returned to the home screen.
Have you tried a reset/reboot?
Reset/Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

Could be the graphics card, run the Apple Hardware Test
If the hardware test doesn't reveal any problems, use Lion Recovery.

IPad screen goes black

I have a 3g 32gb 1st gen iPad and this has happened to me a couple times. I will be using an app or on the web in safari and then out of no where the screen will go black and the only way to get it to come back on again is to hold power and home for about 20 seconds till the apple logo appears and the iPad reboots. Has anyone else had this problem and found a way to fix it? I have tried hard reboots, syncing, restoring and re-syncing, and the problem keeps comming back.

The pad is supposed to manage its own resources, but sometimes it gets overwhelmed when you are using apps that require a lot of memory. When it gets overwhelmed, it just freezes up. From time to time, double tap the home button, and fully shut down anything that shows up in the task bar. Sounds to me like you are just running short of memory. If you want to see the impact, download an app called monitor from the app store. When you run it one of the settings shows you how much free memory you have. If it is open, then doulbe tap the home button, and shut down the apps that are there. You will see the memory get freed, and get a feel for what is using your memory.

Mp4 on ipad - screen goes black

Hi all,
I have some 'home movies' that i'd like on my ipad (wedding video - nothing sinister). It works in itunes, it works on my iphone but when i transfer it to the iPad and press play, the screen goes black and i can hear the sound, just not see the video. It also doesn't let me pause or show any of the usual icons that show when you touch the screen.
Do you think i need to do something difeent for the iPad than the iPhone?
The videos are .MP4

What program did you use too get to the format you loaded in iTunes and what output did you specify? Also, what are some other specifics such as framerate and audio format. They have to meet:

My screen goes black all the time!

Ever since I installed Leopard, my screen will go black if I don't type anything for just a few minutes. (I can barely see what's on the screen ... BARELY)
My laptop is plugged in and receiving power so that's the reason.
I have checked my power settings at that is not the issue.
I have checked the timing on my screen saver and that is not the issue. (my screen saver doesn't start when this occurs)
Does any have any suggestions?

Sorry you're having this problem.
A few years ago we had a similar issue on one of our machines, it was an early MacBook. Ended up being a cracked circuit connection on the motherboard. Changes in temperature caused the crack to expand and contract resulting in a shut-down followed by an automatic reboot. Sometimes over-and-over. I understood from AppleCare at the time that those symptoms could have also been any number of things including a intermittent issue with a powersupply.
If you take it back to the Apple Store at some point, I would ask them to have it run some CPU intensive tasks that closely resemble what you are doing when the screen goes black. It took us several try's to find the problem. Calling AppleCare each time to discuss it and troubleshoot before making the trips to the Apple Store really moved things along. In fact, it wasn't until the Apple Store had cracked the case from the inside that things kicked into a higher gear and AppleCare phone support sent out a pre-paid FedX package to send it to a refurbishing facility. Never a problem since and I know the people who have the machine today.
PS Can identify with the trip to the Apple Store, our closest one is in Knoxville, 2hrs from us.

Nokia N8. Screen going off at random times after B...

I had belle for few weeks on my n8 now and I noticed very annoying issue. At completely random times screen goes off. It is not going off per settings. I have to lock the screen and then unlock it or else there is no response by touching it. I could be browsing web or checking email and it will go dark, it is not because of lack of activity.
Any help ?

Have tried performing a soft reset or hard reset on the phone to see if it was a bad install?
To do Soft reset: Enter *#7780# into your phone's keypad
Note: this will not delete any data from the device.
To do a Hard reset: Enter *#7370#
Note: You will need to back up your data before you do this because it will erase all data from the phone.
If this still does not fix your problem, you may have to take the device into a Nokia Care Point for further inspection.

Hi, I bought my macbook pro 13" (retina display) a week ago. I haven't configured the screen saver yet but today when I was using the apple tv to watch a movie already on my macbook hard disk the screen went black but when I touched the trackpad it came back but the Airplay would get disconnted.

Set the display to not sleep when watching movies.

If you open an ibook and tap the AA button towards the top right of the screen what options do you have set ? You should get theme options : white (black text on white background), sepia (black on brown) and night (white on black) - and possibly an 'auto-night theme' option (that might not show on all ibooks) which will automatically change to white on black e.g.
If 'auto-night' is 'on' then turn it 'off'

Normally if your monitor goes black when plugged into your computer and it is the problem with the computer. You will get a no signal message come up on the screen. Standard troubleshooting steps in order are as follows:
Power the iPad off and on.
An iPad reset, which is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release.
Restore your iPad with iTunes from your iPad's backup.
Restore your iPad with iTunes as a new iPad or not from your iPad's backup.
If no change after the last step, your iPad has a hardware problem.
