1st gen iPod touch not showing in iTunes 10.6

Hi
though it was about time to update my music on my 1st gen iPod Touch, however, when i connected it to iTunes it does not show up.
Is anyone able to assist?
I have tried hard resets and it doesn't work.
Have Apple stopped supporting the 1st gen Touch?
Regards

I am having a similar issue. I have a 1st-generation iPod touch, and a MacBook running Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.3) and iTunes 9.1.1. It's a bit old now and the WiFi isn't very good, but my iPod touch still works perfectly, except that it doesn't show up in iTunes, which I discovered yesterday when I tried to sync some new music. I got my iTouch G1 the first week they came out and it worked perfectly with my iBook G4 running Tiger, and also worked perfectly with my new MacBook running Leopard which replaced the iBook when its logic board bit the dust. I recently updated to Snow Leopard (about a month ago now), and now my iTouch doesn't show up in my iTunes sidebar, but a volume shows up in Disk Utility that could only be this iPod and things do happen when I plug in the iPod (the first time I connected it since I added some Snow to my Leopard, iPhoto opened and prompted a download of a screenshot I'd taken with the iPod). I'm mostly writing this right now because the support page pertinent to this issue is down due to some sort of Apple web maintenance and I'm tired of getting the same error message. I actually have everything on my Mac backed up, and when I installed Snow Leopard I just did a basic installation but have been thinking of going back and doing a clean wipe and install and then getting the iTunes and iPhoto libraries et cetera off of my external HD. Would this fix my problem? I figure that since my iPod touch's files and system have been constant throughout this, it must be some issue with Snow Leopard, however before I wipe everything and have to set my system up again from scratch, I would like to know if this problem would be fixed by doing that or if there is some problem inherent in Snow Leopard that needs to be manually fixed.

  • 1st Gen iPod Touch cannot login to iTunes or App Store

My relative's 1st Gen iPod Touch (fully updated) cannot login to iTunes or App Store. Specifically, when the prompt on the iPod touch for their Apple ID, they can type in their ID and password fine, but tapping on "cancel" or "OK" does nothing. The iPod touch is effectively frozen, the only option being to hit the Home button to get out.
This happens when trying to purchase an item in iTunes, the App Store, and when accessing the Apple ID account through Settings.app on the iPod touch.
An Apple Store genius recommended restoring, but this did not help. Other internet features (safari, mail, facebook, etc.) work fine. They are still able to download apps through iTunes and then sync them over. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    EconBass

    Thanks lllaass,
We just tried to do a fresh restore to factory settings. Unfortunately, the exactly same problem persists.
A little more information, after the username and password are entered, OK can be pressed, but the prompt doesn't go away, and there is a persistent "loading..." sign in the background. This is where the iPod hangs. Here's a picture of what it looks like.
    Thanks,

  • 1st Gen iPod Nano not appearing in iTunes, but DOES appear as a disk

    Good Afternoon All,
I have a 1st Gen Nano 1GB that up until iTunes 9 was syncing fine, but now - Nada.
The Nano is in disk mode and appears just fine in Finder, I can eject it and it's charging fine but iTunes 9 won't see it.
    I have:
    - reset the iPod (not restored because it won't show up in iTunes)
    - updated iTunes to r9 and checked for any other outstanding updates
    - Re-installed iTunes 9
    - this morning I applied the 10.6.1 update
    - The update forced a reboot of the iMac so I have rebooted since the issue started
I can't do most of what is in this KB article because it won't appear in iTunes (hard to restore otherwise, right?): http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1410
My iPod Touch's (both 1Gen) connect to the same USB port/cable combination just fine and applied the 3.1 update to both through the same port/cable.
I don't want to restore the Nano if I don't have to, I have some Nike+ run data on there I don't want to lose, but I suppose I can pull it off in disk mode first if I have to restore.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Fortunately I solved my own problem, but unfortunately it took an iTunes downgrade.
My daughter's iBook was getting dog slow so I decided to pull a "PC" and reload fresh Leopard to clear out the gunk and get her to trim the fat from her iTunes and other directories and clear the mung left over from the original Tiger to Leopard upgrade.
As part of that I initially skipped the iTunes 9 update and connected the iPod to iTunes 8 - it was recognized instantly and uploaded my Nike+ data.
I did notice that the Nano is still PC formatted from back in the day before I switched to Mac. I am going to try connecting it to my iTunes 9 iMac again, and if nothing comes up I am going to restore it in iTunes 8 to Mac format and then see what happens in iTunes 9.
    I will update here.

  • 3rd gen iPod Touch not syncing with iTunes 10.4.1 on Lion?

I've had a 3rd gen 64GB iPod Touch for almost two years now and I've only had one problem with syncing it before. I followed this (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1747) and it helped. But since I updated my MacBook Pro to Lion, this article no longer applies and iTunes hasn't recognized my iPod. My iPod does show up in iPhoto though. Everything is fully updated and I restored my iPod using another computer, but even after doing that my iPod isn't recognized in iTunes. Also, my iPod won't go into recovery mode. It shows the connect to iTunes screen but when I connect it, nothing happens. I've tried restarting my computer and my iPod many times and I've tried everything I know.
Now, since restoring, I have nothing on my iPod and I use it every day so any help would be appreciated.

I figured out how to show the hidden files, but even after doing that, the files weren't there.  On the page that you showed me, it says "Note: These steps do not apply to OS X Lion" and since I am using Lion, it didn't work

  • 1st Gen iPod touch not working correctly?

    I have a 1st generation 8GB iPod Touch. It's not working correctly.
My biggest problem is that, unexplaiably, certain areas of the screen don't seem to register touch anymore. There is a sort of "L" shape on the left and bottom edges of the screen that won't register touch, making it impossible to move applications to the previous page on the home screen and making it hard to use the keyboard/buttons while in portrait mode. It's extremely frustrating to try to change the volume while playing a song, as I now have to either put the iPod in sleep mode then double tap the home button or flip it to cover flow and double tap the home button to do it.

(Highlight the image to see it better.)
This is a screenshot of the working/non-working areas that I made using the Whiteboard application. The white area that you see (excluding the little half circles of black which are extended brush strokes and not actually working areas) is the area that doesn't work. I can't seem to figure out why it happened, as I've never dropped or otherwise damaged it. It just happened one day, and I don't know why.
But I can't fix it. I've tried everything. Upgrading (I'm now running iPhone OS 3.0 which still didn't fix the problem.) didn't work, restoring didn't work, deleting everything and restoring from factory settings didn't work.
I'm also having a few other problems as well, though they're not as bad. My home button seems to stop working sometimes and sometimes the entire screen witll stop registering touch until I put the iPod to sleep and turn it back on. It also seems to go a lot slower than usual.
My iPod is less than a year old. Can you help?

    Vipershark,
I had a very similar problem this past weekend with my 1G 8GB iPod touch. But with me, just the left side of the screen wasn't registering my touch. I could still access the bottom section, which you cannot.
The good news for me is that I fixed it and I hope it works for you as well. What fixed it for me was resetting all my settings. To do this, go to the settings icon, then click on general, and then on the very bottom is reset. Choose "reset all settings."
Apparently this is different than a restore through iTunes, which you tried. I also tried that earlier and it did not help.
Of course, the reset solution I used relies on you being able to access all of the correct buttons, so I hope you can!
Please let us know if this works for you. If not, since it is less than a year old, it is still under warranty. Contact Apple and see what they can do.

  • 1st Gen Ipod Shuffle not updating with iTunes 7.0whatever

My 1st gen. shuffle was doing just fine updating from my iTunes playlist with the older version of iTunes. Then last night I upgraded to 7.0whatever the latest version is and now when I plug in the shuffle to update, I get the usual updating iPod message and then I get the message that it's done...but....nothing has been loaded onto the shuffle.
If I change the playlist for the shuffle to load from, I don't get any little spinning circles next to the song titles and iTunes will freeze up and I'll have to end the program from Task Manager.
I've restored the shuffle to it's original factory settings (even using the special restore program), I've uninstalled and restarted and reinstalled iTunes. I've deleted the temp directory, restarted, reinstalled iTunes. No luck.
The shuffle does work though on an older computer that has an older version of iTunes.
What's in the new version of iTunes that's not agreeing with Win XP and how do I fix it?
    Thanks for your help!

Well, I have that problem too. My shuffle holds about 125 songs or so, yet I've noticed there are always a good 20 or so songs that won't play, no matter how many times I load them onto the device. I have had that problem since I inherited it from a friend.
My new problem is that every time I plug my iPod into iTunes, it no longer updates the playcount for songs. In other words, if I load a song that I've heard 3 times, hear it twice during the day, and replug in my iPod at night, it used to update that song's playcount in the library to 5, but now they still read 3. It's also failing to update the "date last played" field.
I use those to help make sure that I don't load the same songs over and over again by creating a custom playlist that will comb out songs played in the last few days and have a very high play count. Since these are no longer updating, I've noticed that I keep arriving at work only to find my iPod has the same or similar songs as the day before, and dude, if I wanted that, I'd listen to the radio!

  • Brand new iPod touch not showing in iTunes - HELP!!!

It showed when I first got it home, then I updated to iTunes 10.1, and it wouldn't show. Called Apple, they had me put iTunes in the trash (along with some other things) and reinstall it. It showed again, and everything was fine - until I updated to iTunes 10.1.1, then it was gone again! Called Apple again, they had me check all kinds of things. Then had me reset my iPod touch. It came up with an error, and they said it was a hardware problem, to send it back to them and they would send me a new one. Got the new one today, and guess what? IT DOESN'T SHOW UP IN ITUNES!!! I'm beyond frustrated! I don't want to have to reinstall iTunes every time there is an update. I have yet another call set up with them, but if there are any other suggestions before then, I'm all ears!

  • HT1338 Why does my 1st gen iPod shuffle not recognized by ITunes 11

Why did it take me ten minutes to log into this web site.  The security pass words are rediculous

Apple no longer supports 1st gen Shuffle.  They want you to throw it away and buy the latest gadget from Apple.  Your alternative is to use a PC, which will recognize your IPod.
