1st Gen Ipod Touch will not charge...arghhhhhh!!!

I have been trying to charge my ipod touch for days now. It will do everything except charge. When I plug it into my mac the battery symbol shows the charge indicator for a couple of minutes then changes to the fully charged symbol, but the battery remains only 10% charged. After a few more minute it then switches itself off. Occasionally the battery indicator will show up as 50% charged but if I switch it off and on it goes back to 10% very frustrating.
I have tried charging it overnight using 3 different USB cables plugged directly into my Mac, a firewire mains adapter and 2 different Ipod Speakers still nothing.
I have restored it a number of times to the original settings and have upgraded to 3.0 to see if that would fix it all to no avail.
Can someone help me pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

Is it quite easy to replace them?
I suppose it is 'for one skilled in the art' - if you didn't get Applecare and are out of warranty, do a little Googling and you will find several places that do touch battery replacement.

  • 1st gen iPod Touch will not update past 1.1.5

I am sure this question has been asked before and probably answered but I have tried just about everything I can think of and I cannot get an update past 1.1.5. I have restored my unit and downloaded firmware files for 2.2 and 3.1 but both give me an error trying to update. I know I have to purchase the update but I cannot find a way to do it through iTunes. It says my device is fully updated.

You can purchase the update here:

  • My 4th Gen Ipod touch will not get past the apple logo

My 4th Gen Ipod touch will not get past the apple logo (unless the battery is dead, Then it tell me to charge it).  Once it gave me the connect to itunes screen.  I clicked restore in itunes but the ipod went back to the apple logo before the update download finished. I tried calling apple but my over the phone technical support just expired. PLEASE HELP!

This can be a corrupted software/firmware on your iPod touch. If the recovery mode you did was not forced, then try to force it into recovery mode. This is how:
    1. Force it to shut down (note: this sort of shut down should not be preformed unless you are in a situation like this because it is a hardware shutdown and will not attempt to unload software, save unsaved files, safely stop system processes, etc.) to do this, hold down the power/sleep button and home button for about 7 or 10 secs. Also I might be incorrect but I heard that you can just hold down the sleep and home button until the screen goes blank and then immediately let go.
    2. Have iTunes running. Hold down the home button and plug the USB cable that came with your iPod into it. Keep on holding on the home button until a picture of a USB cable going into the iTunes logo appears. You are now in a forced recovery mode. (In case your not so tech-savvy forced recovery is the same as a normal recovery mode that an iPod might do if it knows an update or restore failed.)
    3. iTunes should have shown a pop-up message about it found a iPod in recovery mode. Click OK, click your iPod from the sidebar and click restore. The iPod will show the apple logo for a while and iTunes will say "preparing iPod for restore" and then "waiting for iPod" this was the longest part of updates for me.
    4. iPod will reboot when restore is completed. When I update my iPod it one time showed the apple logo for one whole sync until it showed the slide to unlock screen, so do not worry. P.S if that does not work do a DFU mode restore ( I've been told DFU mode stands for device firmware update mode) I'm running out of room, so google it. Hope this helped ;)

  • My ipod touch will not charge, turn on, or appear in itunes, what can i do?

My ipod touch will not charge, turn on, or appear in itunes, what can i do?
When i plug it in to my compuer it shows an empty battery with the charge symbol then after a while it shows the apple logo like it is turning on then nothing happens and it goes back to the battery.

I haven't left it overnight to charge. Is there a difference between letting it charge overnight and an hour or two with no results? The ipod does not even recognize that the cord is attatched.
I left it on my dresser in my bedroom.

  • Ipod Touch will not charge or connect to Itune, keeps reverting to apple logo?

My Ipod Touch will not charge or connect to Itunes/computer
Ipod switchs on charge logo appears then switchs to apple logo

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • HELP!! Ipod touch will not charge or turn on

My ipod touch will not charge or turn on. I think the battery went dead, but now it won't even turn on or charge. My computer does not even recognize that it is plugged in. I have tried to charge it on other devices and get the same result. Can anyone help?

    TRY GEORGE GUERRERO'S ANSWER FIRST.
Plug it into the computer for about 15 minutes.
If it starts to turn on after about 15 minutes then unplug it.
As it is turning on hold down BOTH THE POWER AND THE HOME BUTTON on the itouch for 15 seconds, or until it flashes white or just turns back off.
Then RELESE THE POWER BUTTON BUT STILL HOLD DOWN THE HOME BUTTON.
    Then plug it back in.
The computer should reconise your ipod.

  • My ipod touch will not charge or register in itunes.  It keeps turning off and then showing the apple logo?

My ipod touch will not charge or register in itunes.  It keeps turning off and then shows the apple logo.  I have tried holding down the button and plugging it in.  It will show the red battery for a second and then turn off?  Any other suggestions?

I have checked for problems with the connections, but from what i can see with the naked eye, nothing appears abnormal. It is very strange, and very sudden. It just stopped in the middle of a charge. The apple store is my next step. I just wanted to see if anyone on here had some extremely eye-opening solution or check. thanks though!
I'm also within warranty, so it's not a huge problem.

  • First Gen iPod Touch will not update to 2.2

Hi guys, having a major issue here with this 2.2 update from Apple. I have a 16GB 1st Gen iPod Touch and am running Windows Vista Home Premium along with iTunes 8.
When I click to update my software from 1.5.1 to 2.2, it goes through the whole process, but when it should finish, it says "Update could not be completed, Error 14." I then try to restore the iPod, it won't do that either. The iPod gets stuck on the screen showing the iTunes w/usb cable picture.
    Any help on this?

    You can try this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275
Beyond that if you are near an Apple Store you might make a Genius Bar appointment.

  • HT1430 My 4th Gen iPod touch will not turn, doesnt charge, and i can't reset in computer because it says it is protected by a passcode, but i cant enter pass code because the screen stays black and won't even light up... What do I do

My 4th gen iPod Touch has had a blank screen for about 3-4 weeks now, it will not turn on, sync, or charge. iTunes recognizes its plugged up, but i cant reset it because it says its passcode protected, but i cant enter passcode due to screen not lighting up or working. How do i fix this?

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

  • 1st gen iPod Touch does not load completely

I just recently bought a 4th gen iPod Touch to replace my 1st generation one. The new iPod works fine, but the old one will not boot up. When I press the Wake button, it appears to be loading fine for about 30 seconds, but then it just stops. I know battery life isn't the issue because I had it syncing with my laptop for a few hours.

But if this is your old iPod, perhaps it is the battery. It may no longer be able to hold charge, that's what happens to old batteries.
Have you tried turning it on while it's connected to power? When you unplug the iPod from any power and try turning it on, look at the battery icon (if it's there). Is it full when it turns on and what level does it show just before it turns itself off again?
