1st gen touch won't charge with iphone cables...but there's more issues...
so i got an ipod touch off fleabay...tried charging it on the cable i charge my 3gs with, doesn't charge or even recognize it on my computer (nothing happens at all)...as far as i knew any older equipment would work on newer cables...is this incorrect?
to make things more confusing i bought a "first gen" touch data cable...it does nothing...no charge or recognition by computer...only way i've successfully charged the touch is to hook it up to an old speaker system or in my car to my pioneer touchscreen...but this doesn't help with putting any movies/music on it.
googling for hours results in tons of recommendations for getting new "high quality" cables or doing a restore on the ipod...so i did a restore and it's stuck in the "connect to itunes" mode now...but still isn't recognized by either of my computers...
any suggestions are greatly appreciated. i'm about to throw this thing out the window lol
anyone?

My iPod touch 4th gen. Won't charge with a enercell charger that I've used since December. It will only charge with the apple USB cord that came with it. And even the takes it about 6 sec. To realize its charging. Help me fix this?
Yes, I've been using it for months. And I can charge other devices with it. (my iPhone) but something weird just happened..... I kept on pluging it in the iPod and sometimes it would start to chàrge then sometimes it won't charge. Charges every time with the iPhone though.

IPod touch 3rd gen won't charge with apple cable
This problem with my iPod is that it just won't charge with the Apple cable to my mac. When I plug it into the wal charger from Apple it does charge, but on the USB is keeps saying that charging isn't supported with this accessory.
Please help, since I'll have to charge my iPod with the USB for the coming 5 months!
Misterb92I know this may sound stupid, but it was the same problem I had and wanted to tell you just in case you have a case on your ipod.
I had a soft gel case on my ipod touch and it prevented the cables from going in all the way. It would work from time to time and in the computer USB and wall charger it would work once then not for a few weeks. I just make sure my cover is not in the way of any of the cords and I have never had that problem again.
mine is the 3rd Gen touch too. -
My iPod Touch 5th Generation won't charge with the cable
There are no bents on the charger. When I plug it into my computer (MacBook Air) it says that a USB has used to much power and something like that... I already have my iPod updated to the ios 7. I had the iPod for about 3 months now. What is wrong with it?

3rd Gen iPod won't charge with USB connector - Is that normal?
I have the above iPod, and I noticed that when I tried to plug it in to charge it with a newer USB connector it will not charge. It will however, let me update my iTunes music. Is this normal for an older iPod?
I believe that is correct. That iPod was often called the iPod with 'dock connector', and as this chart shows, won't charge via USB.

Ipod classic 4th gen. Won't charge with USB but will with firewire
Please help. I keep my old ipod running through my car charger. This charger broke recently and I replaced. The new won't charge the ipod. I've plugged the ipod into the mac and pc, using different leads. Nothing. The apple logo pops up and then a wee battery with an exclamation appears and disappears.
If I plug it into mains using the charger which came with it it will charge (but it won't hold the charge, this I am used to, hence why it's always plugged into me car) BUT if I plug it in using a USB to ipod cable it won't work.
Very confused.
Can anyone help?Looks like yor iPod battery need to be replaced

FYI, you should charge the iPod Classic, for at least 2 hours, using a USB 2.0 port at the back of the Desktop, or if you are using a Mac the USB port on the body of the Mac and not those on the keyboard, (these dont have enough power to charge the battery, which need at least 450mA current) -
My iPad one won't charge with any cable I buy? Tell me what I am doing wrong.
I have an iPad 1 and have had no major problems with it til now. I want to continue using it, I use it for many things and it would suck if it stoped working because of something IDK about. My first and only apple product.
The charger cable (That came with it) finally broke. The wires just came apart and it wasn't salvagable. I had an Ipod cord here that a friend left and plugged it into the original port (The one that was working fine with original charger and came with ipad). It was a tight squeze into the iPad (which I thought was normal) but I got it into there so I thought it would work. It won't work. So i bought a charger said to be used to ipads, and I plugged it in, same thing happened. I did however still sync it into the computer with the new cable I bought. What am I doing wrong that it won't charge on the wall anymore? Wrong cable? I'm confused. Please help!Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. Hi got this problem... searched the discussion board but didn't find any satisfying answers.
Hope somebody can help me out here.
Problem description:
My iPod photo won't charge using the power adapter from Apple. Bought a second one won't work, used different cables won't work either.
however it does charge via the USB port of the computer.
And it also charges via the car stereo plug (forgot the real name but it's from the apple store).
So does anybody have a similar problem? Could it be the iPod that is defective and also destroyes the Power Adapter maybe?
didn't try a different iPod to charge yet. So that's one thing left to try for verification.
untill then maybe somebody knows help, and it might be just a little setting thing.
Thanks for the Helphi Rene!
hmmmm. it sounds like you've already tried most of the things listed on these documents:
iPod's battery doesn't charge
iPod: Troubleshooting the Apple iPod AC Adapter
iPod: About the Apple iPod Power Adapter
from what you're reporting, i'm currently most suspicious of the electrical outlets you're using with those adapters. if you try switching it to a different outlet, does it charge properly then?

Droid RAZR HD won't charge with either cable that came with the new phone.
My RAZR HD will not charge using either of the USB charging cords that came with the phone and I have tried several different USB/wall type adapters. I have to use a generic charger (not a USB cord, just a straight outlet to phone type). The data cable that connects the phone to my laptop works so it doesn't seem like it is a connection problem. Is anyone else having this trouble?
Thank you for the reply. After much trial and error I finally discovered
that the USB/outlet adapter cannot be plugged into any type of outlet
adapter (like converting two outlets to 4 or 6 in a wall outlet), extension
cord, or power strip/bar to function. It must be plugged directly into the
wall socket (or computer) in order to charge.
