1st generation 4g nano crashed, new 8g isn't being recognized by itunes

I had 2 different 4g nanos on the same computer (windows xp) and both used the same itunes library. One of them died so I bought an 8g. I had already upgraded to itunes 7.0 but did it again after getting the new ipod.
The upgrade went fine, but when I plug in the new 8g - nothing. Nothing appears in itunes or on the ipod to even indicate that the computer is recognizing it at all, other than the icon showing that it is charging.
So now I have a pretty new red ipod with nothing on it and I can't figure out how I can get it going.
If I can get it going, I would like to import my itunes library onto the new ipod. Help!

let's try running your ipod diagnostics. with the ipod connected, in itunes go "help > run diagnostics" and select "ipod diagnostics".
do the ipod diagnostics throw up any red lights? if so, are the help buttons leading you to documents on possible causes of the issue?

  • My new iPod isn't being recognized by my computer

Here's my issue: the iPod is brand spankin' new; it was a graduation gift from my uncle, and since we finally got an operating system that's compatible with the software, I installed it all in yesterday. It posed no problems, so I downloaded music onto it and let it charge until this morning. When I took it off, it gave me the 'folder with exclamation point' icon, so I went to Apple's support site and it told me to download updater 2006-06-28. I was hesitant, so I tried everything else before I finally downloaded it.
Now, iTunes doesn't recognize it, the computer doesn't recognize it, and not even the freakin' updater recognizes it. Not to mention, of course, that all my music and settings have been completely erased from it and continue to be erased everytime I take it off in order to try something new.
Is there anything I can possibly do?

  • My ipod touch isn't being recognized by iTunes or my computer. It's in "ipod recovery mode"?

My ipod touch 5th generation is not being recognized by my computer under devices or in itunes; however, when I click on devices and printers it comes up under "unspecified" and is labeled as "Apple mobile device usb driver." I right clicked the icon and hit troubleshooter and it opened itunes and told me I should restore and update my ipod. I did this twice and nothing has changed, it is still not being recognized. This is a big problem because the only thing that will pop up on the screen of my ipod is the symbol for the usb plug with an arrow pointing to the itunes symbol (meaning plug into itunes I assume). I have tried restarting my ipod and restarting my computer and nothing is working. I have the most recent version of itunes. How do I fix this?

    first try:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    next
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • New Password is not being recognized by iTunes

Although, I had the correct password, my iTunes account insisted it was not correct. Made me change it and continue facing the same problem. Although, my iTunes account password has been changed about three times, it does not allow me to log into iTunes and buy new songs. It's sooooo frustrating :-( Help, anyone!!!

Got it. I ran through the Apple recommended steps, and the last one suggested restarting the computer. That did it. Strange though, My old phone was always instantly recognized by iTunes.
    Thanks,
    Ken

  • My phone isn't being recognized by iTunes?

i have an iPhone 4s and a windows 8 computer. for awhile now my phone hasn't been recognized or has synced to iTunes. the icon won't show at the top right when i plug my phone in,but my cord works perfectly fine. i even try to sync the music ive gotten from my itunes through the file area below, but it doesn't work. also when i go into my windows folders to see the devices connected, it shows my iPhone that shows below. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, and all the steps that apple gives here >iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows< but it doesn't seem to work. my phone isn't updated to the latest iOS.. could that be generated to the problem also? please and thanks!

Also, this is what it shows when i try to drag a music file from my iTunes to where it says Apple iPhone.

  • My ipod nano isn't being recognized by itunes. why not?

when i try to connect my ipod nano to my laptop it wont connect. itunes says it cant recognize it all of a sudden. can someone help me fix this issue?

After doing everthing recommended online unsuccessfully I tried this. Bear in mind this is with a 64 bit Windows 8.1 OS.
    Here it is:
    1.Control Panel
    2.Programs
    3. Uninstall or Change Programs
    4. Uninstall iTunes
    5. Uninstall Apple application support, mobile device support, software update (I even removed Bonjour and Quicktime).
    6. Go to apple.com and download iTunes again from the beginning.
    7. See if it works (hope it does)
You'll have to download Quicktime again, but no big deal. After I did this my laptop and iTunes finally recognize my nano and iPhone 3GS. In my control panel it appears that the other applications have also been restored (as you would expect). For those of you still stuck despite the recommendations online, I hope this helps you out.
    Good luck!

  • My ipod isn't being recognized in itunes and not in my computer

when i plug my 2nd generation ipod up it won't go to itunes and it wont even register in the computer. But when i plug up the 30 gig ipod it goes directly to itunes and it shows up in the address bar. I ran the diagnostic and it showed that the 2nd generation was the secondary and not the primary ipod on the computer. I wonder if that has anything to do with that at all? I have no idea I've been checking for months i need some help.

"I ran the diagnostic and it showed that the 2nd generation was the secondary and not the primary ipod on the computer."
    What diagnostics?
If you are connecting both iPods at the same time this will cause problems. Disconnect the 30GB while syncing the Nano.

  • My phone isn't being recognized by itunes, It is stuck in loading.

and I am not able to click on any options in the device drop down menu. I just want to sync some new music to my phone.

    Quit iTunes.
Disconnect your iPhone from your PC.
    Go to Control Panel.
List installed software and remove the driver software for the iPhone. It's named something like "Driver or Device, Apple iPhone".
    Restart Windows 7.
Connect your iPhone, make sure it the screen is not locked.
Windows should automatically re-install the driver software for the iPhone now.
If it has done that, start iTunes.
iTunes should now detect your iPhone again.
    Kind regards,
    emeu1
