1st Generation AppleTv with red images and disconnecting

Hello,
My AppleTv has been working with absolutely no problems until today. I went to turn it on and the tv blinked from static to black every few seconds. I pushed the Menu button on my remote to see if it helped anything and I finally was able to see the AppleTv menu, but the images were blurry and with red pixels around them. This also blinked on and off the screen every few seconds.
I turned it off, disconnected it and left it alone for 5 mins. Then I reconnected it and the issue is exactly the same.
Any ideas?

One of my original Apple Tvs suffered a similar fate - the menu graphics would freeze, not just movies - a restore back down to the very original software helped a little but that caused its own issues
Definitely a Graphics issue with the unit itself, possibly related to heat build up. Cut my losses and bought a gen 2 model as a replacement.

HT1143 1st Generation AppleTV no longer syncs only streams

I still use a 1st generation appleTV in my son's playroom. We also use it for travelling to places that does not have internet access, so it is imperitive that we have movies on the hard drive and not streaming. Within the last few months we have lost the ability to sync movies, music etc. It shows up in our iTunes but as streaming only without the ability to change anything within iTunes. There is a tab in Tunes that will allow us to "share" photos from iphoto, but no movies tab and no guage showing hard drive space used.
It must have something to do with the latest software update? Is my appleTV with 160gb hard drive incompatible now?
We have recently updated the appleTV software (up to date) and have the new iTunes 11.1 and are running OSX 10.8.5 on our computer.
I found a slight workaround that I can use, but is time consuming. On my appleTV, I search for the movie I want to "buy" in the itunes store (that I have already purchased), and it tells me that I have already purchased the movie and then proceeds to download it to the appleTV. BUT It is so much easier to just sync!
Any help would be appreciated. I have a hard time believing that apple would just remove software functionality / compatibility of the 1st gen appleTV, even though it is old.....

I do have a question I hope you can answer. When I turned on "Sync" between my 1st Gen AppleTV I lose "Streaming". When I turn on "Streaming" I lose "Sync". Do you know if the AppleTV is only able to do one or the other and not both?
I did a search on Apple in this article:

and I found the following note:
If your Apple TV (1st generation) is synced with an iTunes library, it’s already set up for streaming. (When Apple TV is synced, it appears in the Devices pop-up menu near the top of the iTunes window.)
From the note above, I would guess that the AppleTV can function with both Sync and Stream at the same time but I can't seam to get it to work like that.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Homesharing only works with computers. If your using an ipad you want to use Airplay instead.

If you have cameras then you have 4G iPod. To update connect to your computer and update via iTunes

whenever you get the red cross it is a signal of a possible hardware issue especially if the ipod is making odd clicking noises

I have both a 1st generation AppleTV and 2nd Generation AppleTV, and my iTunes seems to only recognize one at a time - has anyone else had this problem - can you only use one at a time?

Is this a design flaw? Since the 1st Generation has a hard drive (140GB). If both are on, only the 1st Gen get recognized. I would think you could use both at the same time..... Help!

Yes iTunes should work with them all together. Do they have different names, are they on the same network, have you noticed any other problems.

AppleTV 1 works differently.
It has a sync/share mode and sharing (streaming only) modes set up by pairing the unit with iTunes on computers using the Settings>Computers menu.
The first sync and share connection is for one itunes library and allows you to sync compatible media to the unit's hard drive as well as stream the rest seamlessly if itunes is runniung and the drive has filled up - this media is accessed under My Music, My Movies etc.
Sharing libraries stream only and are accessed via My Shared Movies, Music etc.
Yes, Handbrake is a video converter that has AppleTV presets - use AppleTV1 preset or a simple universal Apple preset.

No sound from my apple tv what so ever. my iphone 4s connects with mirror image and music but there is no sound.

My apple 3rd generation is plugged into my philips tv through a DVI to HDMI lead cable and the power cord to the mains. everything here is fine but then the optical cable has a optical to stereo jack converter on, which is then connected to a 3.5mm jack sokect to 2 phone RCA headphone splitter cable [just like the red, white and yelllow famously used for sound, image etc] regardless of all these efforts i still get no sound. Also when i play music for example i can see that it is being played with a little rectangal box on the bottom left hand side of the tv scree but there is no sound. I even tried to vconnct the jack cable converter into my speakers but no used still no sound.

My kid just got an iPod 5th gen (today from Santa) and it won't power up or charge. The only response is when I connect the USB and press the power button or front button the Battery appears with red line and lightning symbol. No other response at all.

My other kid got one and it works perfectly.....I have interchanged usb cables ports etc. but still no response....I would really appreciate any help.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you have a hardware problem with the iPod. This is because as you said the same cable works with another iPod.

1st generations AppleTv won't show iTunes purchases

I recently got a 1st generation apple tv. I hooked it up and all, signes in with my apple ID but it doenst show any of my iTunes purchases that i bought on my mac book air...any advise?

It sounds like you Authorized your computer, but you still cannot see your iTunes Store purchases on your Apple TV 1st gen. It seems that the next step would have been to sync your Apple TV to your computer after authorizing the computer according to this article:
Apple TV (1st generation) does not play purchased content after deauthorizing all computers
To correct this, deauthorize and then re-authorize the computer that you sync Apple TV (1st generation) with.
In iTunes, choose Store > Deauthorize Computer.
Then, choose Store > Authorize Computer.
Enter your account login and password if prompted.
Select your Apple TV (1st generation) in the Source list.
Choose File > Sync Apple TV.

Can't sync 1st generation nano with iTunes 11

The upgrade to iTunes 11 happened today without my consent, and now I'm finding that when I plug in my 1st gen nano to be synced, I can't find the device anywhere in iTunes and the iPod never stops syncing. Is there a fix?
I love my 1st generation iPod nanos, and Apple doesn't offer anything with its form factor anymore (small, light, controls you can use without looking). Also 3rd gen and later nanos don't work with accessories that I depend on for my car and home (they won't charge). I recently bought my second 1st gen from Amazon (used). If my iPods stop working, I'll probably ditch iTunes and iPods altogether and switch to some other device/library/purchase ecosystem.

Honestly, I probably would, except Apple doesn't make an iPod like the one I have anymore. The new nanos have touch screens, and when I asked at the Apple Store whether it's possible to work them without looking (like in the car), they told me that I should go on-line and buy an older, refurbished iPod nano. Which I did, just a couple months ago. And now it doesn't seem to work with iTunes anymore. (And then there's also the fact that I won't be able to play a new nano in my car, but that's a longer story.)
This is the price of buying into a closed ecosystem with few device choices, and this may be the last straw for me. Apple may think it's being smart by making money off unnecessary upgrades, or maybe in the cost/benefit analysis they decide it's not worth making their new software backward-compatible with their own devices. But I was a good Apple and iTunes customer, and if I manage to find an alternative to iTunes/iPod, they won't get me back.
Heck, if I can't find an alternative, maybe I'll do a start-up and build one.

Hi everybody,I have a big problem,my father has a iPhone 1/V1/1st generation,he has never updated it or tried jailbreaking it,but this night I think that he tried to update with the latest version of iTunes (updated today),but he doesn't want to tell me what happened with his phone.
His iPhone 1/V1/1st generation is locked,I connected it to my desktop computer and opened iTunes,I turned off it,I hold for at least 10 seconds the home button and turn on button in order to restore it,the restauration was successful but it still display the iTunes button;I did it with and without SIM card but there is no change.
Could you help me to resolve this problem?
I live in France so I use french SIM card.

How do I completely remove this last piece of the 1.0 Updater for Windows, since re-installing does not work? I even cleaned the registry...
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Now launch Windows Installer CleanUp ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"), find any entries called "ipod for windows \[date]" or "ipod updater \[date]" or just "ipod for windows" in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those entries, and click “remove”.
Quit out of CleanUp, and restart the PC.
Does an itunes install go through properly after that?
