1st generation ATV doesn't show as a device in iTunes?

My 1st gerneration apple tv will not show up in itunes. I have gone into my prefrences to try to select it there, but it doesn't show up. I have checked my firewall as well, it is turned off. My ATV is connected to the same network as my macbook. I can view movie trailer and youtube on the ATV, so it is not a network problem. Is there something else I can try?

Quit iTunes, restart the iPad and reboot your Mac and then try again.
Then look here for additional help if that doesn't work.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Navigate to Settings > Computers > Your Library on the Apple TV, you may be told you will lose all synced content, but you can't doing anything abouty this, you won't lose any purchased content that has yet to be transferred. Then select Settings > Computers > Connect To iTunes, note the passcode that appears on screen, click on the device in iTunes and enter the passcode when prompted.

  • IPod 1st Generation (2001) doesn't show up on computer

I have an iPod M8541 1st Generation clickwheel, Firewire400. It is working fine, but I haven't updated the music on it for years - and now it doesn't show up anymore.
First it doesn't show up in the Finder, and is not being found by Disk Utility. When I connect it via another Firewire device it shows up in the Finder, but not in iTunes.
I tried to find an update that can be done without iTunes, and downloaded iPodUpdater2006-01-10, but when I ran the installer it said it was already installed.
Downloaded iTunes 6.0.5, but this one can't open because my iTunes-Library is too new. I could trash my Library and re-install an old iTunes, but I'd be very thankful for any suggestions before doing that...
    Thank you!

Thanks for the kudos - I love this pod! Not too cool for old school
Unfortunately my MacBook Pro doesn't have Firewire400, only 800, while the iPods only outlet is a 400. (Are there cross cables?)
So I can't try it on another Computer, but I did try different FW-cables on my iMac Intel DuoCore with Mac OSX 10.6.8.
    The Pod is fully charged.
The other FW-device was a 20GB LaCie Pocket-Drive, and I've also tried it now on a LaCie d2 Quadra with external power, which has both FW-plugs. It does show on the desktop and in Disk Utility, but not in iTunes.
I just sold my old iBook, could have tried there.

    Thank you!!!!!!!

  • My ipod touch doesn't show as a device in itunes sidebar

My touch downloaded my playlist from my PC windows xp just fine the first time.  Now when I plug into the PC it has a triple ding like it recognizes that it is plugged in, but doesn't show  up in itunes sidebar.  However, my touch has no problem  being recognized when syncing with my Mac. All of my other devices, nano, ipad also have no problem syncing with my PC, or showing up in itunes sidebar. I have cleared the touch and reset all settings.  Any suggestions now as to how to get the touch to appear or be recognized? (It also dings when plugged in to PC, but it is a different sound than what the nano and ipad make when being plugged in.

  • ATV doesn't show iTunes playlists and doesn't play them using the Remote app

    Hello
Using ATV3 with the latest software version and it is connected to the iTunes library (also latest version) on my Mac Mini.
When I go to Computers on the ATV I can see the content of the iTunes and am able to play both Music and Vidoes however I don't see the playlists on iTunes there. On the ATV configuration it is configured to Show playlists -> All but still no Playlists appearing at the top of my movie and TV show listings section.
When I connect to the ATV using the Remote app on the iPhone and go to Computers there I do see the playlists but unable to play the ones with Vidoes just music.
Any ideas what would cause these problems...?

log into my library through more > computers where? on the Remote? This is exactly what i'm doing, I can see the content of my library there but I can't play movies from there.

  • ATV doesn't show up for syncing but does for streaming..

My ATV was sync'd successfully months ago with my iMac - but is not set up for auto sync.
Now I want to update the ATV library and want to sync again, but the ATV's Settings>Computers for the iMac sync'd library is greyed out and the ATV doesn't show up as a device on the iMac's iTunes panel. Here's a weird thing, though. If I click on 'Add Shared iTunes Library' on the ATV, the ATV immediately shows up in the iMac's iTunes devices panel. If I then enter the passcode, I can stream from the iMac ok - but, I really want to sync from it. (My MacBook behaves the same way - the ATV showing up for streaming, but disappears otherwise).
This proves I don't have a network connection problem, I guess, but why doesn't the iMac (or the MacBook) see the ATV normally? The iMac preferences are set to look for the ATV.
The ATV is wired into my TC router and the iMac/MacBook are wireless into the network. I updated the ATV software to 3.0.2 but it didn't affect the problem.

If you last synced months ago, is there any possibility you've made a major iMac change like reinstalling the OS, or thta you might have synced using a different user on the imac? Could you have created a new iTunes library under that user, eg moving one to an external drive, as a new iTunes library would be different.
As you say network seems ok.
If the library name is there but greyed out AppleTV/iTunes are not detecting this is the same library for some reason.
Also check in iTunes Preferences - under the AppleTV tab - how many AppleTV's are listed 'known' to iTunes (connected or not)?
If you can navigate to the greyed out sync library (top entry of the lot in Computers) and try to select it you could remove it as the sync library, then remove the streaming entry below and try to re-add it as a sync library once more - this will however wipe AppleTV content to prepare for a fresh sync.

  • 1st generation ATV internet radio problem

I have the 1st generation Apple TV and I love it except for one problem.  Sometimes when I'm playing the internet radio it just stops and I have to unplug the device and re-start it.  I'm curious if anyone is having this problem with the Apple TV 2?  There aren't going to be anymore software updates to the 1st generation ATV but if the ATV2 works okay I might consider switching.
    Thanks!!!

I can't get Apple TV 1st gen to show as a device in itunes. I've checked the netwrok connection on apple TV. The help menu says to go into preferences and make sure search for apple TV is turned on, but that is not an option in version 10.4.

I'm not a Mac user, but do one of the following:
    > Restart your mac.
    > uninstall & reinstall iTunes
    > reset your iPod (if possible)
    > make sure iTunes is up to date.
This is what I really know, I don't use a mac. If this doesn't help, then sorry.

  • TS4062 I can't sync music on my computer to my ipod touch; the ipod shows up under Devices in itunes but does not show buttons (Summary etc.) when I click on it. Suggestions?

I can't sync music already on my computer to my ipod touch; the ipod shows up under Devices in itunes but does not show buttons (Summary etc.) when I click on it. I've read through all the Help tutorials but none of them say what to do if the sync options don't pop up when you highlight the device.  I've already spent way too much time trying to figure this out and it's driving me crazy!  Thanks for any help you can offer.

This is correct.  It will not show in finder.  It is not an external storage device.
The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The only exception is itunes purchases.  Open itunes connect ipod, do not sync, click File>Transfer Purchases

Automatically Syncing my 3rd Gen IPod Touch, All my music and videos show in the device on iTunes, but when I look at the device itself, it say no content.  Can someone help?  The Apps seem to sync fine, just not the music, videos, podcasts, or audiobooks.

Change your iCloud ID password: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5624.  After doing so, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the new password.
