1st Generation iPod Shuffle not receiving Purchased Songs on a Win Vista

I authorized this new computer to iTunes.
I then tried to copy 30 purchased songs to this Vista Machine as part of a playlist of about 60 songs.
The non-purchased songs copied. The purchased ones will not copy, either as a group or individually. When I try to drag a songs, all I get is the icons showing a prohibited movement.
What do I need to do to move these purchased songs to my trusty old Shuffle?
Thanks.

I'm in the same position but worked out a fix.
Go into the Shuffle settings on iTunes and untick, 'start iTunes when this iPod is plugged in' but also tick, 'enable for disk use'
Eject the Shuffle, close down iTunes.
Now, when you plug in the Shuffle, it'll appear under Computer on the desktop as a removable drive and from there, you can right-click it and eject - bingo, LED stays on unblinking.
You may get a message from Windows, 'error on this drive, it needs scanning' or similar, but I ignore this now as when I scanned it, it seemed to mess up the Shuffle in iTunes.

My 1st generation iPod shuffle isn't letting me sync my podcasts even though they can play in iTunes

I did recently move to a new NetGear wireless cable voice gateway router (CG3100) and this is when the problems started
In order for the AirPort Express to "join" the wireless network provided by the Netgear router, you need to know exactly what type of wireless security settings that the Netgear is using.
Unless you provide the Express with the exact information required to join the network, you will continue to see error messages after you click Update during the configuration.
The message about the "settings have been successfully stored" is a misnomer. This tells you that the settings have been saved, but not if they were the correct settings.
You will know that you have the right settings about 40-45 seconds after you click Update. If the light turns green, your settings are correct.

  • TS1363 1st generation iPod shuffle does not show up in iTunes (windows 7)?

1st generation iPod shuffle does not show up in iTunes on my Windows 7 PC (but shows up in my computer).  Tried all the Apple trouble-shooting steps (some several times).  It used to work with Windows 7 on this PC.  Are there other steps I can try?

I'm not sure what "all" means, unless you state them, so if you have not done so already, you should use this procedure to reset the iPod shuffle
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1655
Then, shut down your computer (power off) and start it up, with iPod shuffle NOT connected.  Run iTunes.  Then, try connecting the iPod shuffle again.
Since this is a first gen iPod shuffle that IS recognized by the computer (so it's probably not a bad USB connector), you can also try using the iPod Reset Utility
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1238
This is for the first and second gen iPod shuffle only, and does a lower level reset than using a normal Restore in iTunes.

  • ITunes & iMac do not recognize 1st generation ipod shuffle

My 1st generation ipod shuffle does not show up in either the desktop or itunes. It does however light up the orange or green light when connected to the computer.
It also seems to knock out the usb connection that it was plugged into. After I unplug it I try to put the keyboard in the same usb slot that the shuffle was in and it does not work. But it does work in other usb outlets. I reset the PRAM and NVRAM and then the all usb connectors work again.
Also, to add to the confusion I have 2 first generation ipod shuffles. The other one works fine.
I cannot restore the shuffle because I can not see it anywhere.
Is there anything that can be done?

Here in Brazil if the technicians solve the 1418 iPod problem with "magic softwares" provided from Apple just for assistence services, they are charging the iPod users about U$40.
But if the problem is classified as a hardware problem, and if its under warranty, they give you another new or a refurbished (yek!).
If its not under warranty, you can have your iPod and pray for fix...
Is it fair that a problem probably cause by a software provided from the own manufacturer should be solved by Apple's costumers? I dont think so...
Do you any idea about what can we do?

  • My 1st generation iPod shuffle

i need help with my 1st generation iPod shuffle, I think it's different because I don't have green/amber lights on my iPod shuffle, it's red/blue lights and it's on the front of the iPod. I need help in recognizing what does the red light mean? what does the blinking blue light mean? and what does the steady blue light mean? can anyone help me? I have instructions to this iPod but, doesn't explain the light formats.

Do you actually have a REAL, Apple shuffle with a valid Apple serial number? Shuffles made by Apple have LEDs which display green, orange or red, but not blue.

  • Why won't my 2010 MacBook Pro recognizing my 1st generation iPod Shuffle?

My 2010 13" MacBook Pro does not recognize my 1st generation iPod Shuffle. Do I need software? Is there anywhere I can go to download it?

    Hi all -
I cannot view my flash drive OR my office server, which I should be able to connect to via VPN. VPN was installed on my Macbook Pro at my office on Friday. It worked fine. Now I bring it home, and I connect using VPN, and it shows that I am connected, yet the server hard drive icon does not appear on my desktop (as it usually did) and I can't see how to access the server at work.
I also cannot view flash drives when I plug them in - they just don't show up.
I had Norton installed; I read online I should disable that. I did this, and no luck. I also have already done all the things suggested on this post and have all the boxes checked, and yet, still cannot use a flash drive or access my work server.
I am stuck? Do I have to bring my Macbook pro in for service? I have NOT upgraded to Mavericks.
    Thanks for any help.
I am not that well versed in finding my way around a Mac - so keep any explanations simple, please.

  • I need help with getting an update for my 1st generation ipod shuffle.

I am trying to install iTunes and iPod software on my computer but the iPod cd is apparently not compatible with my version of windows. I need to download an update but I cannot get any support because my 1st generation iPod shuffle is not one of the selections available for support. Does anyone know how I can download the update I need?

Neil, I installed itunes but that hasn't helped the issue I am having with my 1st generation iPod. I have searched and searched but there is nothing that allows me to update my iPod, download to my iPod, all I see is iPhone or iPad, neither of which I happen to own, so I am still at square one with my problem. I can't get any Apple support because my iPod is not one of the choices, no mention of the 1st generation. It's as if it no longer exists and there is no support available. I tried plugging it into my usb port, hoping that something would pop up on the screen and give me guidance, but alas, that failed as well. I feel like this whole thing is an exercise in futility.  Thanks for your attempt to assist me.

  • 1st Generation iPod (5GB) not working with new iMac

    Hi,
i have the Problem, that my 1st generation iPod is not detected by my new imac (20'' 2,4 Ghz). When i plug in the firewire cable, nothing happens. DiscUtility sees no disc at all.
But when i plug in the iPod "behind" another Firewire disc (acting as a fw-hub), the iPod ist detected within a second, and everything works fine.
I just wanted to know if someone else is having this Problem, or if someone else has a working iPod 1.Gen on the new iMac.
    Thanks
    Joerg

    Hi JvdL,
I am one with a 1st gen iPod (Windows, 10GB).
But I have no problems with it and I also don't have a last gen. iMac.
However, in the iPod Forum http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=151 and in the iTunes Forum http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=149&start=0#threads there are quite some threads with similar problems.
    Sorry

  • HT1719 why doesnt my 1st generation ipod shuffle appear on my devices on itunes?

Why doesnt my 1st generation ipod shuffle appear under my devices on itunes when i plug it in? i have windows 7. I got the ipod today from a friend with their music. i deleted their music and added my own to the folder it was in. but when i unplugged it i still had their music and none of mine.

You need to restore the Shuffle in iTunes first. Then sync all of your music stored in iTunes over to it. Or is that what you did?

  • 1st gen ipod Shuffle not updating play count for songs

I've noticed since I updated to the iTunes version 7.2.035 that plugging in and updating the library with my iPod shuffle no longer updates the play count for the songs I've listened to. Is there a known fix for this? Anyone else experiencing the same problem with their 1st gen ipod shuffle (512)?

Well, I have that problem too. My shuffle holds about 125 songs or so, yet I've noticed there are always a good 20 or so songs that won't play, no matter how many times I load them onto the device. I have had that problem since I inherited it from a friend.
My new problem is that every time I plug my iPod into iTunes, it no longer updates the playcount for songs. In other words, if I load a song that I've heard 3 times, hear it twice during the day, and replug in my iPod at night, it used to update that song's playcount in the library to 5, but now they still read 3. It's also failing to update the "date last played" field.
I use those to help make sure that I don't load the same songs over and over again by creating a custom playlist that will comb out songs played in the last few days and have a very high play count. Since these are no longer updating, I've noticed that I keep arriving at work only to find my iPod has the same or similar songs as the day before, and dude, if I wanted that, I'd listen to the radio!

  • 2nd generation ipod shuffle not recognized by usb 3.0 port, 2nd generation ipod shuffle not recognized by usb 3.0 port

    Hi,
My 2nd generation ipod shuffle will not connect to any usb 3.0 port.  I've tried on to computers -- one Windows XP and the other Windows 7.  Any ideas?

    Hi
I had the same issue with my Late 2009 Mac mini running Mavericks and iTunes 12. When I connected my 2nd generation iPod shuffle it would blink amber once then do nothing. This seems to be a common problem with the iPod shuffle and newer versions of Mac OS X (10.6 and up) and iTunes albeit with somewhat varying symptoms but the same overall problem syncing the iPod with iTunes.
The predominant go-to solution is to give the iPod more power by either connecting the iPod directly to a USB port on the Mac or by disconnecting all other USB devices. On paper this makes sense.
What worked for me, however, was the opposite. After trying to solve this problem for hours (weeks, months), I had success ONLY after adding a low-powered 4-port USB hub to the chain between the iPod and the Mac. I suspect this had the effect of throttling the power supplied to the iPod from the Mac. I was able to perform a restore on the iPod then sync my music over.
I can't tell you much about the USB hub except that it is running at USB 1.1 speeds (12 Mb/sec). In theory a USB 1.1 extension cable should also do the trick. You might even be able to use the USB hub in old wired Apple USB keyboard. I will attach a photo of the hub I used to this post for greater clarity.
    I really hope this helps.

  • Itunes 8 not compatible with 1st generation ipod shuffle

I have had a **** of a time tonight trying to get my ipod shuffle working with itunes 8 and finally gave up after trying to restore it via itunes 8 which totally screwed it up because it wouldn't finish the restore so I had to unplug the ipod. Got a zillion ipod busy errors when trying to restore. Used disk utility to format it for apple hfs.... still wouldn't restore.... ipod busy b.s. error messages... tried formatting it for fat on itunes 7.7.1 and finally got it so that itunes could get it restored and working. Problem is... now I have to try and switch back to itunes 7.7.1 which means deleting my computer from apple tv and using disk utility to backup my older 7.7.1 over my itunes 8 in order to get back to some kind of workable solution. Plus my itunes 8 library is more up to date than my backup. So that means more messing around. Fortunately I was able to restore most, not all of the files by plugging in my ipod 80gb. For some reason it didn't copy all the new movie files over.
I've had so many problems with compatibility, crashing, locking up etc that it is no longer worth my time to try and use itunes 8.
Not only can't I change album artwork in itunes 8... it basically doesn't want to work my my old ipod shuffle either.
This is one version of itunes that was not tested properly before putting it on the download server.

    Hi there,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the article below.

  • 1st Generation iPod Shuffle - Won't be recongized by two Macs

Hi... I've read through a lot of topics on this forum and it looks like at some point, these things just stop working (at least, the USB connector stops working).
My iPod Shuffle, 1st Generation, 512MB, can:
    - Play Music
    - Turn on and off
    - Skip forward and backwards
... shows a green light for the charge indicator.
But I cannot get either my G5 or my MacBook to see it, and I've tried every USB port on both computers. iTunes doesn't see it, System Profiler doesn't see it. And hence, I can't use iPod Reset Utility.
I've tried three of the five Rs: Reset, Restart, Re-Try, but cannot Restore it via iTunes (obviously).
My guess, since there weren't any solutions posted here to many similar messages, that there's no recovery from this status.
    Confirm?

    Try 2 more things:
    1. With the Shuffle connected to your computer Reset it, i.e., turn it off and on.
    2. If 1 does not work, power down your Mac, connect the Shuffle and power up the Mac.
If neither work it is probably a broken USB connector.
