1st Generation iPod Touch Problems: First freezes, then no music

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else have had this problem.
My first generation iPod touch's screen stops working, but is responsive and the button and works, but since I need to slide it, I wasn't able to use it. When I plugged in my headphones, it fritzes. So I restored it to factory settings and everything is fine until I try to play music. I would click on any song, even the shuffle button, it would show that it would play, but suddenly stops and goes back to the song menu. I tried restoring a few times, but it still won't work. On top of that, when I leave it alone for a minute, it dies unexpectedly. It's been 2 and a half years since I got it. Anyone?

I have the exact same situation! My friend and I both have first generation iPod touches. My friends is 3 years old, however my iPod touch is only 1 year old because I got a new one because my last broke, still 1g. My friend was caught in the rain and got very wet once, and since then his iPod touch wifi hasn't worked. My iPod touch on the other hand has been very well looked after in a switch easy case.
My wifi used to work perfectly, until around september of last year my wifi stopped working. It searches for half a second, like it usually does when it knows there aren't anywhere networks near, and if I am really close to a router it will have 1 bar, but say unable to connect and always ask for password.
However today I had a breakthrough, even tho I haven't used my iPod in a while, I tried searching for wifi today and it worked perfectly, like brand new, I was really excited, I could even get full signal at the bus stop outside my house. 4 hours later, and it was back to square one, exactly the same symptoms as before. iPad and laptop are perfect as usual, my iPod has never been wet and I take great care of it. I don't think iOS has a big difference, as my friend is running like 1.? And I'm running 3.1.? The latest software. I've resetted many times, but no success. I'm going to call apple but please help incase they don't know.

  • Can I run the Netflix app on a 1st generation Ipod Touch running 3.1.3?

I have a 1st generation ipod touch running ios 3.1.3. I want to run netflix on it but when I try to install from itunes I get the message "The app "Netflix" was not installed on the IPOD because it requires a newer version of IPOD software." I have read from goggling this issue that netflix streaming on the 1st gen ipod is possible. What am I doing wrong? Or is this not possible at all?

"The "reason" that Netflix will not work with iOS 3.1.3 is because Netflix does so much that iOS 3.1.3 cannot handle it. SImple."
This is untrue, as was stated earlier:
I was running netflix on an itouch first generation ios 3.1.3 untill the glich with the app store.  The newest update will not run on it now and I lost the original version when I reset the Itouch thinking the problem was on my end.
If you had said it's "incompatible" instead of "cannot handle it" or specified the version of the Netflix, perhaps the new Netflix app is so incredible, or rather it "does so much" MORE, you might be within the realm of having some useful input, but the following:
    It would appear so!
leads me to understand you don't know what you're talking about or you're a wannabe company man and just lying.
If anyone else has useful information regarding running the Netflix app that certainly worked for us Netflix subscribers who are also 1g owners–and there are at least thousands, if not tens of thousands–and were using the app before we upgraded to 3.1.3 or restored and downloaded the latest Netflix app, it'd be great to hear from them.  1. 2. 3. SImple.

  • 1st Generation Ipod touch  keeps crashing/going into stand by mode 3.1.3

I have a 1st generation ipod touch that I recently restored to the newest firmware 3.1.3. My problem is that after this restore and subsequent restore attempts is that the device keeps clicking off to a black screen when I use wifi or transition from different desktop screens. The device does not completely crash as once the screen goes black I can hit the home button an slide to unlock. I have found that if I disable wifi this problem does not occur. I have tried to both reset and restore with no success. Any suggestions or ideas?

If a restore did not help, I'm afraid you have a hardware issue there.

I have a 1st generation iPod touch, but it's impossible to turn it on. I've tried pushing the home- and lock screen-button at the same time, and I've tried charging it, but the screen stays black. What else can I do?

  • Ios 3.1.1 will not download for the 1st generation ipod touch

Why won't ios 3.1.1 download for the 1st generation ipod touch?  It will start and then a second later stop.

Does it happen with the apps that came with the iPod?
Does it happen with all apps you have downloaded/installed?
Have you ried deleting the apps and redownload/install the apps?  You will not be charged again if you are signed into the same iTunes account that originally purchased the apps.
Next would be to restore from backup
Last would be to restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • Why do the new earphones not work with 1st Generation iPod touch?

Does the 1st generation iPod touch not "recognise" [recognize if you are American] these functions? I am talking about the microphone and the button on the new earphones.

    Ray2104 wrote:
Then why don't apple make ear phones with microphone which the 1st gen itouch will recognised...
Because the Touch is primarily a music player, that is what I purchased and I'm quite satisfied with it as it is.
I'm so fed up of the way Apple Market...
What are their plans for their consumers... to
    to keep buying new Ipods?!?!?!
Err...Yes! Welcome to the real world.
3G Iphone was released shortly after the Iphone...
why couldnt they make us wait longer...and get the 3G
You still don't understand this commercial world do you?
same with Ipod Touch... yes i Understand new Gen ipods...would have better features...
Let's all wait a hundred years when they bring out the the brain implants...
But hey wats up with making us fall with Apple...we like the designs, the features...but why then bring in new ones that apple know will not let our old ipods adapt to it.
You like the design, you buy it, enjoy what you have and don't get so jealous.
Sick of Apple... they do it on purpose... I guarantee...
    No way?!
the new Iphone to realease next year....would be Iphone 8.0 mega pixels camera video recording....either way...they would make their customers regret for buying their old Iphones and Ipods...
If so, then I might buy one, but then I wouldn't moan if a better one was released six months later.
4 now, do something about the new ear head phones....cos apart of app store and applications...we want to be ablt to use microphones...to communicate on social networking...and voice memos...
This maybe because the hardware is simply incompatible, they cannot cover every eventuality, had they done so the Touch would have been more expensive and I would not have bought one.
Technology moves on, fact. I you don't feel Apple are playing fair then just avoid their products, that'll learn 'em.

  • 1st Generation iPod Touch Question

I just got an email from a 1st Generation iPod Touch user who said that my program (Gear Ratio) wouldn't load on his device. I don't actually know how to tell if it should or shouldn't load and run. Is there somewhere in the documentation, or perhaps some kind of simulator setting that I haven't found that allows me to test for iPod Touch?
I checked "iPhone and 2nd Gen iPod Touch" in the iTunes Connect portal, but I guess it isn't clear to me why the program wouldn't work on a 1st gen touch. It doens't use hardly any of the capabilities of iPhone, and certainly not anything specific (like GPS or the phone.) It just takes a few numbers and calculates a result.
Is there a way to test against individual hardware versions without having an actual, physical, version of the hardware?

Hello! Not a problem, because you will get a Ipod Nano 1st generation as a replacement, not a new / latest generation.

  • 1st Generation Ipod Touch Fall

    Hi guys
I have had a 1st generation Ipod touch for 2 years and still use it pretty much everyday. Unfortunately I dropped it onto a hard floor today for the first time. I was kneeling over and it dropped out of my shirt pocket onto the aluminium back without damaging the screen of even scratching it in any way. Thing is it wont turn on at all now. Im sure its charged as I was using it shortly before the fall. Im at work so cant connect it to itunes yet. Any ideas about what could have gone wrong and how to fix it?

  • Questions for 1st generation ipod touch

3 questions 1: i have a 1st generation ipod touch what is its ios 2: can i get imessagew on my ipod touch and 3: if so how

    Illaass:
A search of the iTunes Store produces:
iMessage: (developer, Philip Strain) which requires iOS 4 or later
iMessage - Just write a message: (developer Graziano Grennaro) which requires a 3rd generation iPod Touch running iOS 4.0
i-Message: (developer, Rob Wheeler) which requires iOS 3.1.2
Since Apple have allowed three different developers to create an App, one with an identical name to their own App, two more with very similar and easily confusable names (just look at the icon for iMessage - Just write a message), and one has to interpret the OP's questions broadly, given the use of "imessagew" and the fact that he/she was asking specifically which iOS was on their iPod, then my answer was appropriate but incomplete, not wrong.
It begs the question of who wrote in the added text "iOS 2.X"?
It also means that if the OP wants to purchase the Philip Strain App, he/she can do so.

You can work through the five 5 R's of troubleshooting to rule out the possibility of corrupted software.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
It might also be a good idea to let the iPod's battery fully drain. Then charge it back up and restore it once more in iTunes.
Otherwise, it's likely a hardware issue with the iPod's LCD display, meaning you'll need to take or send your iPod in for service either via Apple or a third party repair service. Here is Apple's repair pricing.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
Note that they don't actually repair the device, but exchange it for one of the same generation, model, and capacity.  A third party service will actually replace the damaged part for a little less.  Google "iPod screen repair" and you should get a number of results to work with.

  • 1st Generation iPod Touch No Longer Recognized by Windows 7 PC

I have a 1st generation iPod Touch (no camera) that can no longer connect to my Windows 7 pc. Plugging in the iPod via USB does not trigger any sort of dialog box in Windows and it doesn't trigger a message saying a device has been connected; the iPod does not show up in either iTunes, Computer, Device Manager or Devices and Printers, either as an Apple mobile device or an unrecognized device, and does not charge when connected to USB (though the wall-charger still works). As far as my computer is concerned this iPod does not exist. I had successfully synced this iPod as recently as one week ago and am ready to pitch the thing in the garbage if I can't find a solution.
I have the latest version of iTunes as well as the most up-to-date Windows updates. I have already followed all the steps listed here (iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows) multiple times with no success.
I also have tried following the instructions listed here (Re: For those Windows users who suddenly cannot see their device in iTunes. Here's a solution that has worked.) but this also hasn't worked since the iPod isn't recognized in the Device Manager and I am not given the option of updating the drivers, manually or otherwise.
I have uninstalled/re-installed iTunes and all related Apple services multiple times. The Apple Mobile Device Service is functioning normally. iTunes diagnostics indicate that there is no device connected no matter what I do. I have reinstalled my Windows USB drivers and changed the settings on the USB Root Hub in the Windows Device Manager to disable power saving options.
I have tried connecting the device to another PC which detects and syncs another apple device (iPhone 5) with no issues, and had the exact same result: the computer doesn't even recognize an iPod is connected.
I can't update the Apple Mobile Device Drivers because the device is not recognized by my machine in any way.
I even completely reset my iPod and that just left me with a unactivated iPod that still isn't detected.
I am really unbelievably fed-up with the useless "try checking your USB cable"-style advice that people seem to offer on this forum. If anybody has dealt with this issue and has any serious advice other than "re-install iTunes," it would be much appreciated.

You said "I am really unbelievably fed-up with the useless "try checking your USB cable"-style"
    - Did you try another cable?
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    Try on another computer
