1st Generation MB Max Specs

Hey there,
I'm trying to do some upgrading on my Mac Book... its a first generation.. 1.83GHz 55 GB HD and I have 2GB of ram...
I want to upgrade the HD.. I'm quickly running out of space (if I didnt have my music on my external drive, I'd be out of space. I realize that I can just keep using other external drives and such, but I really just want a bigger internal drive so that I dont have to carry around externals with me... plus I want to install Final Cut, which takes up 55gb on its own for the whole package...
Does the first generation take sata drives... i'm pretty sure it does, because when I bring up my disk utility it says "Serial ATA" also is there a cap?? The guy at the computer store told me he thinks the max on a 1st gen macbook is 120.. is that true, or was he just crazy??? 120 is good, but i'd love a nice 250 or 320... this is the HD i'd like to put in.. but i wont if it can only take 120 gb..

please let me know

cburke... It would appear that the drive you linked to is a desktop drive, not a notebook drive. You need to be looking for drives that are 2.5" (desktop drives are 3.5"... and much thicker than the 9.5mm limit for the MacBook. The vast majority of current notebook drives meet the 9.5mm spec. Some older drives... and a handful of new drives may be thicker. That particular site seems to have only one 2.5" notebook drive and it's only 80GB. I realize you are in Canada... so you will need to look at online stores in your area, but this link at NewEgg gives you an idea of what you should be looking for:

  • HT5457 How do I update my 1st generation IPAD to IOS 5.1 and I do not have a software update feature on it.

I have a 1st generation IPAD and it is currently running IOS 4.3.  I would like to update it to IOS 5.1 but am having difficulty doing it.  I have followed the update software instructions in ITUNES but my IPAD will not display the update software feature under General in Setttings.  What do I need to do?

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

  • Time capsule 1st generation loosing Internet connection

I have a time capsule 1st generation on my iMac. Since I updated to Lion, my time capsule started to flash orange every hour or so… it's extremely annoying and I really have NO idea what to do.
Here's some specs and configuration for my network
    Firmware: 7.5.2 (75200.14)
    Wireless Security: WAP2 Personal
Allow this network to be extended CHECKED
    Channel: Automatic
Radio Mode: 802.11n only (2.4GHz) - I tried on 5GHz only and I had the same problem.
    Multicast Rate: 6Mbps
WPA Group Key Timeout:  1 hour - I tried 1 day, 10 days, X months, doesn't matter, problem still here
Create a closed network - UNCHECKED - Because the mac mini keeps on "forgetting" the network and it ***** to remember such a long password so I decided not to hide it anymore
Since the time capsule is pretty close to my computer, I use an ethernet cable but everything else in the house is Wireless (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Mac Mini, apple tv, Macbook Pro and Macbook)

I found out that if you are already in airport when the problem starts, it doesn't update the message but the light gets amber and you loose connection for more or less 15 seconds.
I got this issue again this morning, opened up airport and got 2 messages... then it went back online as if nothing happened. It's doing this every single hour.
Since I can't plugg on wifi only since I ALSO get the "No Hardware Installed"  message in wifi, I have to be plug with the ethernet cable
Am I the only one starting to REALLY hate Lion or what? None of this was happening on Snow Leopard...

  • Ipod nano 1st generation with SW1.3.1  doesn´t work properly

as a positive thinking person I followed the recomendations in iTunes 7.5.. and downloaded SW 1.3.1 on my 1st generation nano. The consequnce was that this dammed thing now frequently stops playing(every few minutes max. 15 min). It either jumps back to the main menue and I have to start the song again or it freezes and I have to boot ( middle + menue key) or it reboots by itself.
Have gone through all the 5Rs and the online service, tried to send a message to service, but this was not available and the message was gone. I do not find an older SW version. After hours I am really pi...
Had functional problems during warranty period. Sent it in with new SW it worked properly until last weekend......
Can anyone help. Has anyone made similar experience?

    Hello Forum Users et al,
I know this Updated Post follows shortly after my previous post, but I have a useful piece of info. that others may wish to check on.
I have been using a video:  www.video.com/12348372 as my test case for which the video comes on and then proceeds to not work.  If I click on the "arrow" in the bottom left corner of the video, the video screen goes "black" and nothing happens immediately.  But, here is the important information.  If I wait, then the video reappears, but sounds alternately starts and stops.
What I did for the last several hours was to minimize the email containing the video, and I noticed that the sound alternately came on and off.  But, after over two hours, the video started to play normally (total time for video is about 4 mins.)  When it gets to the end, the original "start arrow" appears.  I have repeatedly played this video after the two-hour period of erratic play, and it played normally.
This event happened one time over a week ago when I was on "Live Chat" with Adobe FP.  I was reporting my problem with FP with Mang Son while I had the video minimized, and, embarrassingly, the video started to work normally!  What could I say?!  I told him essentially that it looked like it was working, and I closed it out.  However, after this, I closed the email containing the video and tried to open the video from scratch, again.  Once again, it started to play erratically, even though it mysteriously was playing normally while I was on "Live Chat".
Users may want to use the video that I cited and see what happens.  It is still a mystery why the video won't work for hours and then all of a sudden start working.  I also had similar trouble with YouTube videos.
    Best regards,

  • Apple TV 1st generation- can't seem to transfer rented Itune movies from my Mac to the Apple TV

Apple TV 1st generation- can't seem to transfer rented Itune movies from my Mac to the Apple TV

You need to establish if it was 1080p or 720p HD you downloaded.
If it's 1080p it will not play at all on AppleTV1 - the hardware is not powerful enough to decode 1080p h264 (or 720p above 25fps).  When AppleTv1 came out most items were SD only and with time more 720p HD stuff became available.  1080p content cm after AppleTV 1 and 2 were replaced by AppleTV 3.
AppleTV2 can process but not display 1080p - it is stuck to 720p output.
AppleTV1 could only process 720p max, but could always upscale on output to 1080p!
Your iTunes Preference should determine what quality you are downloading/renting.

  • Is the 802.11n 1st generation a dual band router?

Is the 802.11n 1st generation a dual band router?

Yes, but not simultaneously I think.  If you look at the tech specs (http://support.apple.com/specs/#airport) for the Airport Extreme, the 1st and 2nd generation all say "2.4GHz or 5GHz" while the 3rd generation and up say "2.4GHz and 5GHz simultaneously".

  • Dockable ipod - 1st generation nano

I recently bought an Emerson clock radio with ipod capabilities. I am unable to make my 1st generation ipod nano work with this unit. There is no audio when the ipod is placed in the dock. I returned that one and bought another brand, only to have the same situation. I was readin the specs of another ipod clock radio and it mentioned that even if I didn't have a "dockable" ipod it had the necessary accesories to make it work. Is that why my 1st generation ipod nano did not work with the other 2 clock radios? Is the 1st generation ipod nano not a "dockable ipod"? I would appreciate anyone's help. I would like to buy another one but want to make sure I have one that will work with my ipod.
    Thanks

  • 1st generation iPad upgrade past 5.1?

no. it maxes out at 5.1.1
It simply lacks the power and ability to run anything newer than that

  • Is there iCloud on Apple TV 1st generation

is there icloud in 1st generation apple tv

    No.
AppleTV 1 knows nothing about iCloud/iTunes Match and so forth.
The last AppleTV1 software update (3.02) predates being able to playback purchases in the cloud by some time, and there will be no further updates as it was based on OS X not iOS.
You should be able to rent/buy stuff on AppleTv 1 still (with 720p HD max), and those purchases will be available on cloud aware devices.
    iTunes Match will not work.
AppleTV 1 lacks several new gimmicky features, but also supports a few like iTunes Extras and iTunes LP that the new models don't.

  • IPod 1st Generation (2001) doesn't show up on computer

I have an iPod M8541 1st Generation clickwheel, Firewire400. It is working fine, but I haven't updated the music on it for years - and now it doesn't show up anymore.
First it doesn't show up in the Finder, and is not being found by Disk Utility. When I connect it via another Firewire device it shows up in the Finder, but not in iTunes.
I tried to find an update that can be done without iTunes, and downloaded iPodUpdater2006-01-10, but when I ran the installer it said it was already installed.
Downloaded iTunes 6.0.5, but this one can't open because my iTunes-Library is too new. I could trash my Library and re-install an old iTunes, but I'd be very thankful for any suggestions before doing that...
    Thank you!

Thanks for the kudos - I love this pod! Not too cool for old school
Unfortunately my MacBook Pro doesn't have Firewire400, only 800, while the iPods only outlet is a 400. (Are there cross cables?)
So I can't try it on another Computer, but I did try different FW-cables on my iMac Intel DuoCore with Mac OSX 10.6.8.
    The Pod is fully charged.
The other FW-device was a 20GB LaCie Pocket-Drive, and I've also tried it now on a LaCie d2 Quadra with external power, which has both FW-plugs. It does show on the desktop and in Disk Utility, but not in iTunes.
I just sold my old iBook, could have tried there.

  • 1st Generation iPod Touch No Longer Recognized by Windows 7 PC

I have a 1st generation iPod Touch (no camera) that can no longer connect to my Windows 7 pc. Plugging in the iPod via USB does not trigger any sort of dialog box in Windows and it doesn't trigger a message saying a device has been connected; the iPod does not show up in either iTunes, Computer, Device Manager or Devices and Printers, either as an Apple mobile device or an unrecognized device, and does not charge when connected to USB (though the wall-charger still works). As far as my computer is concerned this iPod does not exist. I had successfully synced this iPod as recently as one week ago and am ready to pitch the thing in the garbage if I can't find a solution.
I have the latest version of iTunes as well as the most up-to-date Windows updates. I have already followed all the steps listed here (iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows) multiple times with no success.
I also have tried following the instructions listed here (Re: For those Windows users who suddenly cannot see their device in iTunes. Here's a solution that has worked.) but this also hasn't worked since the iPod isn't recognized in the Device Manager and I am not given the option of updating the drivers, manually or otherwise.
I have uninstalled/re-installed iTunes and all related Apple services multiple times. The Apple Mobile Device Service is functioning normally. iTunes diagnostics indicate that there is no device connected no matter what I do. I have reinstalled my Windows USB drivers and changed the settings on the USB Root Hub in the Windows Device Manager to disable power saving options.
I have tried connecting the device to another PC which detects and syncs another apple device (iPhone 5) with no issues, and had the exact same result: the computer doesn't even recognize an iPod is connected.
I can't update the Apple Mobile Device Drivers because the device is not recognized by my machine in any way.
I even completely reset my iPod and that just left me with a unactivated iPod that still isn't detected.
I am really unbelievably fed-up with the useless "try checking your USB cable"-style advice that people seem to offer on this forum. If anybody has dealt with this issue and has any serious advice other than "re-install iTunes," it would be much appreciated.

You said "I am really unbelievably fed-up with the useless "try checking your USB cable"-style"
    - Did you try another cable?
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    Try on another computer
