1st generation Touch question

Will Apple still provide software updates for the 1st Generation iPod Touch?

There is nothing wrong with the 1st gen ipod. It works as it should. The software works.
What "support" do you need?
How long do you think that a product should get updated features?
This doesn't seem like anything new or unusual at all.

  • 1st generation Touch.  Apple still stock these for battery replacements?

I am aware that apple replaces the entire device for poor battery life for a service charge $79.  Does this still apple for a 1st generation Touch?  I have a 16GB Nano, but the battery only last a few hours.
Does Apple still keep these in stock?

No way. $59 is too cheap. You need to buy it for more. You can sell your device here:http://www.gazelle.com/

  • Ipod Touch 1st Generation General Questions.

I just read where the 1st generation Ipod Touch cannot upgrade software past 3.1.3. SO I assume all of the Apps I have seen and some I have downloaded that state I need newer software are not useable on the Touch I have?
Oh man it appears I got something which is basicaly useless other then playing music like my Ipod Nano can do.
Can I load any Books on the Ipod Touch?
Where can I get information as to what the limits I have with this Ipod Touch 1st Generation so I can get an Idea of what I can do and what I cannot do so I am not sitting trying to achive something that it is not capable of?
I also do not want to irritate the heck out of the community by asking questions or trying to fix errors I think I have when in reality my Ipod is not designed to do the task in the first place.
I do see Wifi on my Ipod Touch but it does not appear to connect even when I use the correct password so I assume it is limited or has to have a Specific Security setup in teh Router to connect properly and would like th know that.
I read some of the Software 3.1 Manual but it does not really go into detail as far as wifi connections just the bare basics which I know I did correct.
I am thinking that it cannot connect to WPA/WPA2 Security and I will have to Dummy down my Wifi Security to accomidate the Ipod Touch is this correct and where can I get this Information also?
I bought this Used and have no Box or any Information about it at all.
    Thanks again

One if you can find an app that support the book format. Many book are available in non-DRM pdfs and I think you can find an app that will read pdfs. As you likely know, iBooks is not compatible with the 1G

    For wifi problem:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router.
    - Reset networks settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
The last should identify what encryption works with the 1G.

  • Voltage for charging 1st generation Touch?

I have a 1st generation iPod Touch, 16gb. I have a car charger/transmitter I bought off eBay, which plugs straight into the m-bus plug of my Alpine head unit, and then I had to wire it into power. Lately when I plug my iPod in, it will work fine for a while. Then the screen flickers, it shuts off, and either stays off or reboots. Sometimes it'll be fine after happening once, and sometimes it'll happen over and over. I found out the voltage of the car charger is 12v. Is this too much for the 1st gen? I'm not sure if the 1st gen is supposed to have 12v or 5v. If it's the correct amount, what's happening? Thanks.

Okay, so if I buy the 12v output to 5v output converter, it should stop surging/crashing my iPod? Just making sure before I buy it.

  • IPod 1st Generation Touch- System Restore from Recovery Mode

My iPod Touch 1st Generation worked fine one day and the next day all it would do is disply the little white "Apple" and then go black.  It was fully powered.  I opened my Itunes account and connected the iPod. Nothing.  Then I saw on a previous discussion board to hold the power and home button at the same time while hook to my computer. A graphic of the usb cord and Itunes appeared, and the Itunes account recognized the device but said it was in "Recovery Mode" and in order to have it work again I would need to allow for a system restore.  So I did.  It seemed to go through the process and then tried to re-sync.  It has now been "syncing" for over an hour.  It is stuck.  I can not do anything, even if I disconnect the iPod from the computer.  I have no idea what to do, I am super frusterated. My iTunes account seems to be locked and have not made any progress with the iPod of getting past any other graphic other grapic besides the usb/iTunes picture.  Please help if possible.
Also, since it is a 1st generation, I recently upgrade the OS to the only allow upgade however, I am not sure which one it was.  This is the first problem I have had with my iPod.  Apologize for the lack of specifics.
    Thanks much in advance.

Close iTunes and disconnect the iPod from the computer. Reboot the computer. Then try to restore again.
    - Try as necessary:
    - A reset.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Placing the iPod in
    Recovery mode
    - Placing the iPod in DFU mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - Both those modes require that you turn the iPod fully off. If you can't do that let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least an hour try the reset.and restore again.
    - If still not successful time for an appointment a the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • IPod Touch 16GB 1st Generation - touch screen area stopped working

Hello there, the last 2 days I'm experiencing a problem with my 16GB 1st Generation iPod Touch. One cm under the top of the touch screen and for about 10mm height, the screen is not functioning. I noticed this when I was on the AppStore and tried to buy an app. Exactly at the "Buy" button and on full width the multitouch screen doesn't work at all (touch/scroll/zoom etc.). I use OS 3.0 and I've installed it from my PC with the latest iTunes. I use the latest OS since it's release day and only yesterday the problem appeared.
The iPod is protected with silicon case since day 1, also has a screen protector and it's never dropped, scratched or anything that could cause this problem. I believe the problem/bug/dysfunction it's software related, even tho, I've restored the iPod erasing all it's data to the factory settings with the last OS, the problem remains.
Do you suggest me to downgrade back in version 2.0 and see what happens? Do I have to to downgrade to version 1.0? Please advise cause here in Greece the service doesn't exist as in the rest European countries and as in the rest of the world who has official Applestores.
I use both Mac and PC with my iPod Touch, so you can suggest solutions for both platforms. (Leopard/Vista)
I'm waiting for a response as soon as possible, thanks in advance and please advise me as an experienced user
The iPod Touch is bought from US and brought here in Greece on January 2008. It's the iPod with the January Update in case you're wondering.
    Thanks for your time,
    Vangelis Makridakis.

Seems that the problem isn't software related.
I've downgraded to 2.2.1 from 3.0 and nothing happen.
I can't buy apps from AppStore, I can't join a WiFi network and much more...
Apple made *faulty digitizers* (touch screens) cause as I've searched on the internet, many others have the same problem. Since it's out of warranty, Apple is covered... BUT customers should know that even if they don't drop their device or if they protect them, no matter what, one day they won't be able to touch some random areas of their screens.
As a customer _I demand answer_ and also a replacement program for faulty digitizers since will be confirmed that the customer never dropped or scratched the faulty device.
Also, since in Greece (where I live) we don't have Apple official representation as the rest of the European countries, I probably will have to pay A LOT to Rainbow S.A for a digitizer replacement and also to wait about a MONTH to get my device back.
Thank you Apple for making perfect products with the chance becoming lemons instead of apples.
    Vangelis.

  • 1st Generation Touch and iOS4

Some of us just don't have the money to throw away on a whim due to Apples idea that this iPod is now 'obsolete'. What ever happened to 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'??? In this recession some of us don't have the luxury of the 'disposable product culture'.
My 1st Gen runs well on 3.1.3... perfect condition... does all I want with memory to spare... will there be a 'fix' in the future for us Touch users that doesn't require constant upgrading and adding debt to credit cards? (hands up if you save money for your new model!)
My main concern is : Does this mean the next lot of Apps; and originals when upgraded, will only run on iOS4 and beyond then?
I've sworn by (sometimes literally!) Apple since 1988, but now I think making money is sacrificing even hard core devotees due to a flush of popularity. Bubbles can burst.

As time goes on, more and more apps will only work on current software, just like more and more apps won't work on Windows 98 or Mac OS Tiger. That doesn't mean that your Touch won't still work. You may need to pay more attention to updating your apps to be sure that you don't update to a version that doesn't work on your Touch. However, your device will still play music, connect to the Internet, and all the other things it did before iOS 4 was released.

  • IOS4 for the 1st generation touch

I have a first generation ipod touch. Will I be able to upgrade to IOS4? If not, does that mean my touch will not be able to use the app store anymore and upgrade my existing apps?

iOS 4 doesn't support the first generation iPod touch. The new features are too much for the first Touch to handle. (slow processor) But that doesn't mean you can't buy or update apps, it just means you don't have the latest features. But believe me, you wouldn't want to update anyway. There has been a buttload of problems to buttloads of people updating their ipod touches. 1. Battery life gone down 80 percent. 2. Errors to downloading the update and ipod in recovery mode. 3. Software update not downloading. 4. All the features aren't even available to my 2nd generation ipod touch. 5. Update erasing all apps. 6. Update erasing EVERYTHING. 7. Update slowing down entire ipod. 8. Update erasing data on apps. (like the apps were just downloaded) 9. Update screwing ipod leaving it on a screen where you can't do anything, not even restore.

  • IPad 1st Generation Touch Screen Not Working

So, I think i've dropped my iPad for the last time.  The screen is cracked all the way across and the touch screen function isn't working.  I can swipe the slide to unlock but when I try to put in my password, nothing happens.  It's like the number box isn't working.  I tried to do a hard reset but that didn't solve the problem.  HELP!!!! My whole life is on this thing :-(

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
