1st iPod is a Fifth Generation late 2006!

I'm a Mac user and now getting started with a recent gift as above. My music files copied easily from my iTunes Library on my iMac - I thought my photos/video clips would be just as easy to do but I can't get anywhere loading a single photo or video clip. Could it be because my iPhoto Version is 2.0?. Somewhere in my trials I got the message that I will need iPhoto version 4.03 or better - can anyone help? Is there a way I can get updates to iPhoto besides purchasing iLife 06 - I really don't need all that comes with iLife (Garageband, etc) ... just want to copy some photos onto my iPod. I get iTunes updates periodically and automatically, now at Version 7.2, but nothing at all for iPhoto. A Windows user with the same iPod says she has no problem at all and never even had to load iPhoto ... everything comes through iTunes ... My current iPhoto works well for me - I currently have over 3000 photos in my library. Help please!

it's possible to sync from a selected folder of
photos rather than from iPhoto. there's some
information on how to do that in the following
document:
iTunes and iPod: Frequently asked questions
(FAQ) about Photo Sync
Thanks for your reply. I still cannot get to the prompt to sync my photos. I really do believe that I'll have to upgrade from iPhoto 2.0 since the prompt appears "copying photos from iPhoto requires iPhoto 4.03 or later" - all other prompts are greyed out and therefore not selectable. Initially I tried copying photos from my desktop to iPod by dragging a folder of 50 photos ... that is appearing as an iPod cache and shows one folder of Photos and another of thumbnails, but neither of these can be viewed on iPod or computer .... any suggestions as to upgrading my iPhoto to 4.03 at least so I can try to sync photos? I did start out with iTunes 4.7 when I first got my computer in 2004 and have been notified of iTunes updates automatically and iTunes is now at 7.2. Does Apple not support iPhoto in much the same way?

  • Ipod Fifth Generation Late 2006

    Dear Apple Forum,
I have a Ipod Fifth Generation Late 2006. Recently I experience an anomalyof this Ipod. I could not remember the latest version of the software in this Ipod. When I plugged into my lappy (OS is Win 7), my lappy could not read the Ipod as an external drive. When I double clicked on the Ipod icon, Win 7 prompts me to format my drive. After consulting my IT personnel of my company, we decide to re-format my Ipod. The settings for formating are as follows:
Storage: 80GB but Win 7 detected 72GB...where did the remaining 8GB go?
File System: exFat (Default) -> there was NTFS available but my IT staff says its ok.
Allocation unit size: 128kilobytes -> there were other values available, from 16kB to 32kB but we chose 128kB. What the ****??!!
After formating, it works find on my laptop with Win 7. But when i got home and connect to my iTunes, iTunes prompts me to restore software. After which it was not able to restore due to limited memory (my guess is the 128kilobyte).
    iTunes version is 10.3.
Now my Ipod cannot start up and it hangs at the initial boot up with the apple logo and a "clicking" sound (sounds like the sound of the harddisk mechanism) over and over and over again.
Now both WIn 7 and my iMac (Leopard) are not able to detect my Ipod. I have attempted the 5 Rs: Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore but to no avail.
Could someone advise me what I can do to restore my Ipod? Thank you!

  • Fifth Generation (Late 2006) or just Fifth Generation

I just bought a refurbished 60 GB iPod last week (Apple Store), is it a Fifth Generation (Late 2006) or just Fifth Generation. The serial number ends ELSZ9.
I want to know the Tech. Spec. for this one iPod.
    Thank you

This reference -http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61688- seems a little confusing. I don't see my serial numbers.

  • 5th generation (late 2006) ipod problems

I have a 5th generation (late 2006) ipod, about a month ago it went into recovery mode. No matter what computer I put it in, usb, cords, everything... it WILL NOT restore. I'm assuming my music is already gone since I have tried so many times. Now what? Also, I have put it into disk mode and regular mode. Nothing works.

Do the iPod Disk Diagnostic as posted earlier by tt2, it wont fix your problem, but help in troubleshooting.

  • IPod Games with Fifth Generation...Help!

I am 100% positive I have a Fifth Generation with Video, and I have iTunes 7 too, so that's not an issue. I just downloaded Tetris, and when I tried to sync it to my iPod, it said that "The file is corrupt," and did not sync to my iPod. Does anyone know why? How can I make the file non-corrupt?

  • IPOD 5TH GENERATION (LATE 2006) Boot Loop

I have this iPod and here is what it's doing.  Please note:  The HDD has been replaced with an OEM and it does spin up, I have done a lean test on it, and the battery was completely dead, but does hold a charge.  A new one is on the way.  Here are the steps I take:
    1. I press the center button on the click wheel
    2. The Apple logo appears
    3. I release the center button
    4. After 5 seconds, I get a iPod sad face and the triangle with an exclamation point inside of it.
    5. It then turns off.
Here is what I have done to troubleshoot:
    1. I have done multiple resets by turning on the hold selector switch and turning it off, then holding down the Center and Menu buttons.  Same Result.
    2. I leave the cable unconnected and I have put the iPod in disk mode by, with the iPod off, pressing and holding down the Play/Pause and Center buttons, then I wait for the apple logo to appear, and then I release the buttons after about 15 seconds.  Once in disk mode when it says OK to disconnect,  I will then reconnect to a PC or Mac.  The screen on the iPod will start to say do not disconnect with a blinking no smoking sign in the middle.  On the PC, the iPod driver installation started once, failed when the iPod went back to the Apple logo screen from disk mode, thus severing its connection with the PC, then proceeds to boot loop.  It will only boot loop if plugging into a charger or computer.  When its plugged into a Mac, it does the same thing on the iPod, but nothing pops on the Mac at all.  When its still plugged in and getting charge after the sad iPod face goes away, it says Please Wait Very Low Battery, even though the battery has a full charge.
    3. I have done the same procedure with the cable connected to the PC or Mac, which replaces the first step in number 2.  So, it would say I have a connected cable and I have put the iPod in disk mode by.  So on and so on.
    4.  I have disconnected everything in the iPod and reconnected as well.
If any one can help, please.

When you charge, what do you see on the iPod screen? should be one of these icon
If you dont see these icon, then try another USB cable or a wall charger.
If you see any of these icon and still cant play music standalone, then your battery need to be replaced.
If your iPod is under warranty, bring it in to Apple Store, and they will replace it.
If it is out of warranty, there is a replacement fee.
Apple offers a battery replacement for  $59 (iPod nano and classic),  plus $6.95 shipping, subject to local tax.

  • Searching option in my Fifth Generation iPod

    Dear users,
I've been updated my fifth generation iPod to the latest firmware (ver. 1.3) but still doesn't have searching feature by selecting alphabets!
But other fifth gen. iPods have this feature!

Only the late 2006 5th gen iPods support the search feature. My 5th gen (bought when they first came out) is one of the earlier ones that doesn't support the search. There is no software update that will enable the search feature in the early 5th gens.

  • Swapping cases on an iPod 5th Gen late 2006

I just bought a used 5th Gen late 2006 iPod. I have a 5th Gen U2 Special Ed. iPod I found in the trash. It's missing the display and battery. Can I swap the cases from one to the other?

    Hello sisjoel,
Are both iPods the 30 GB models? If they are, then yes, you can swap out the cases. However this task can be a bit more difficult than it looks and you risk bricking the used iPod you recently purchased.
I think the best guides on how to swap out the front and back covers can be found on ifixit.com. Here are the two guides that should help you accomplish this task.

  • IPod Gen 5 (late 2006), 30GB, Black, will not sync with prior iTunes or current

I have an iPod, Gen 5 (late 2006), 30GB, Black, I had kept unopened for a while (purchased in 2007 and opened it in 2008-09). I retrieved the iPod Gen 5, opened, and did sync it with my PC-Windows 7, one (1) time. I uploaded my music and it worked fine.
I obtained new music and after uploading the added music, I attached my iPod Gen 5 to the PC-Win 7, at which time a window popped open stating there was something wrong with the "data storage," requesting Win 7 to perform a system check on the "data system" or "continue without checking." I chose the latter. This caused the iTunes & PC to freeze. Nothing worked, even the Task Manager would not shut it down. The only way to unfreeze everything was to restart the computer. After searching iTunes Support, doing everything suggested, including totally uninstalling iTunes (no trace to be found) and then re-installed iTunes. Re-synced the music library and then attempted to re-sync my iPod Gen 5. Everything started all over again.
I took my iPod Gen 5 to the Apple Store - Genius Bar where an employee was able to sync the iPod Gen 5 with the Mac computer at the store. The iPod Gen 5 worked perfectly. I respectfully requested the employee to reformat/restore the iPod Gen 5 with their Mac computer, again, my iPod Gen 5 still worked.
I went home in attempt to sync my iPod Gen 5 with my Windows PC (Win 7), and again, everything froze--iTunes and the PC. I waited several weeks and searched further on Apple.com/support to seek any other answers. However, none were found. Uninstalled and re-installed iTunes 2-3 times and still kept freezing iTunes and my PC. Went back to Apple Store-Genius Bar and my iPod synced just fine with the Mac computer. Reqested to restore on site and took it home, just to have all the problems to start all over again with the PC and iTunes problems.
About two weeks ago (11/12/2011), I totally wiped clean and reformatted my full PC, re-installing Windows 7 and only my major programs. After updating my iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch Gen 4, I took a chance to re-sync my iPod Gen 5, AND IT STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN!!!
Is there anyone who can inform me as to why this is happening, when I was able to sync the iPod Gen 5 the very FIRST time, but after that the problems started? I know if I take the iPod back to the Apple Store, it will work for them.
It should be noted I did attempt the same procedures with my laptop computer with Window XP Home Edition, SP3. Still did the same thing.
Any help please? Thank you in advance. Other than the age of the iPod, it is "practically brand new" or has been used for about 2-3 weeks.

Everything was downloaded directly from Apple's website. I found some possible answers through "Mitch751" but cannot print out yet until I restart my computer. iPod is still attached and wanted to search while it was charging. As I mentioned, I have done everything searched and researched and even stumped the Apple Genius bar employee.
    Thank you Desmond

  • Fifth Generation iPod won't update music

My new fifth generation 30gb iPod refuses to be updated. It worked fine until I transfered a few photos onto it and now unless I have the "synchronise photos from" check box checked, I no longer have the option to update. When I have the box checked it only updates for photos. I have restored it once so far with the same problem returning as soon as I transfer photos. Any clues on how to sort this would be appreciated.

My 30GB ipod wont update music videos. I bought a
couple of music videos from the itunes store and
after they downloaded I connected my ipod to my emac
and a error message popped up and said that the
videos werent the right format. What is the right
format and how do I go about changing it??? What do I
    do?
Does the message say that the files cannot be updated to the iPod because they cannot be played on the iPod?
Go into the "music" tab on the iPod settings, make sure the option that says "include music videos" is checked (if you had to check it, click "apply")
You could try selecting the file in iTunes, and then clicking File > Get Info. See if all the Summary tab information is missing. If it is, something might have happened during the download. You might want to go into your purchase history and report a problem with it. In most cases, iTunes will let you redownload the file.
The problem is, everything downloaded from the iTunes Store is a protected file, so I don't think anything is going to let you convert it. Protected files usually can't be converted...

  • Why doesn't my fifth generation ipod nano work with my Toyota Yaris?

Hello – The charging feature on my new fifth generation ipod nano doesn’t work with the factory glove compartment adapter that came with my 2008 Toyota Yaris. It plays music, etc but does not charge the ipod when connected.
My third generation nano charged perfectly with my yaris until it was run over and crushed recently. My nano gen 5 replacement doesn’t work the same with my Yaris. Can anyone help?

I cannot say for sure, I don't know anything about the toyota yaris. However, if that system was built to work with older firewire based iPods, then it will not charge new USB based units. There are converters out there you can get do deal with this.
