1st kernal panic on barely year old 13" MBP
Idk what happened, but i've had this MacBookPro since Dec 2009 and it was flawless, never had a single issue. i recently went out of town and left the computer at about 40% or less charge and was using it solely on battery power when I returned and it went into powersave/0% battery and i went to plug it in and resume form powersave mode it started loading fine then a Kernal Panic occured.
The only thing recently that has happened was Apple replaced the Display Assembly (Top Case/Top Clamshell) over an issue with the glass.
I'm wondering if it had anything to do with that as everything was working perfectly fine.
Here is the log I found

Kernal panics after waking from sleep on MBP
I have a client machine that continues to crash after waking from sleep. Most of the logs indicate its a USB driver issue but not all of them which make me question whether it is truly a USB issue.
Here is the first log:

Sorry for the huge post. The lightspeed kext shouldn't be causing problem as we use this program for all mac machines, I also did extensive troubleshooting with it. I did ask her to stop using the logitech USB device but she said it didn't make a difference, it was a plug and play device, would it still cause this issue without having it plugged in?
Thanks in advance for the help. Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Optical drive on iMac at work, barely one year old, won't read CD's....disc utilities shows disc unavailable! Rarely used and out of warranty, what a rip off!! I have been on MACS since the 80's and things are getting more and more difficult to deal with. Why did it quit after barely being used? Any help from Apple?
It depends on what you mean by "barely one year old". If the iMac is only a couple of days out of warranty, Apple's been known to make exceptions and extend the warranty, though it's by no means guaranteed. If it's several days or more out of warranty, then Apple will fix it, if it's a hardware problem, but the repair won't be free. This is no different now then it would have been with a Mac purchased back in the 80s.
Why the drive failed, if indeed it has, is impossible to say. Could have been a static shock, a weak component that failed when power was applied, or a mechanical fault in one of the tiny parts used in optical drives and hard drives that finally broke.

Trying to update system on 1st generation IPAD to give to my 5 year old to use. It is saying that i have purchases on this ipad that are not in my library which is odd because everything on the ipad was purchased current ID. It is not telling me how to transfer them to library? Does anyone know?

Has anyone else been having hard drive issues with 13" MacBook Pro barely a year old?
Has anyone else been having hard drive issues with 13" MacBook Pro barely a year old?
Yes, BUT...
... there are many problems that are really easy to eliminate by replacing the Hard drive, including ones that have nothing to do with actual Drive Hardware failure. These include corrupted install of Mac OS X, its EFI partition, clobbered partition tables, or the appearance of Bad Blocks in a critical area.
Any of these problems can sometimes be eliminated by re-initializing the entire drive and writing Zeroes, and re-installing from scratch. The trouble is, this process takes hours to complete, and is not guaranteed to be successful -- you may still need a new drive after all that effort.
I learned from my Plumber that consumers have no appetite for solutions that might work, and detest return visits for any related problems whatsoever. You or your friend may have had your drive replaced, not because it actually failed, but because the situation was troublesome, and the provider thought you would not tolerate anything less than a crisp, complete fix on the first attempt. And based on the cost of technician time, it may have even been cheaper that way. -
So my phone a 4s is less than two years old, the speakers do not work, and it will not connect to wi-fi, so my question is on the 1st of august why should I re-up my contract and purchase a phone that taken care of did not last the distance of a contract?

1st ever kernal panic killed mac ?!?
got a 5 year old imac - always ran sweet as a nut. started slowing 3 years ago but ram boost sorted that.
month or two ago, had a suspected hard drive issue, but a safe mode boot cleared the problem and haven't had any issues since until last weekend.
had a few things open but was browsing with firefox, firefox froze, go spinny thing, went to get a cup of tea and when i returned had the "you need to restart etcetc". Cannot get past this no matter how many times i've tried rebooting, pressing different keys, swtiching ram etc.
Does anyone have any ideas?i would give _*Apple Hardware Test*_ a go.

The Kernal Panics Continue... with my 3 day old Macbook
PLEASE HELP! Bought my first Macbook in Oct 2010; it started kernal panicking every other day in Dec 2010 when I would wake it up. Last Thursday and Friday (1/20/11 & 1/21/11) took it to the Apple Northridge store to have it fixed~ we wiped off all software, did a system restart, re-seated the ram, ran a 24-hour stress test and it was still kernal panicking. On Monday (1/24/11) the genius bar gave me a brand new Macbook, right out of the box. The only thing they didn't give me was a new power cord. My new Macbook has been working great for the past 3 days, until this morning, when I opened it up and received a kernal panic. How is it that 2 new Macbooks (my first one was only 3 months old) are both kernal panicking??? Someone please shed light~ these are my first experiences with Apple and I really want to love them but... my Toshiba never gave me problems like this.
Jay, thanks for getting back to me. I am getting a panic log, please see below. I haven't downloaded any apps, either from Apple or third-party, and I'm not using any third-party devices. The only download I've made is from Flip.com to upload my flip-videos to. I appreciate any and all suggestions you have. Thanks again

Laptop not even a year old and the power cord is stripping really bad and barely working
My toshiba laptop is not even a year old and the part of the cord closest to my computer is becoming really stripped. I noticed that it got very hot during pc use, I just assumed that was normal, but I'm starting to think that this heat made the rubber very soft and caused the cord to strip. I guess my question is, do you think toshiba will replace this or will they just say that it was my fault that it happened?
You can either use a cloud service like Google Drive, or use the built in Verizon Cloud Backup, or you could plug the phone into a computer and use it like a USB drive and copy the photos from there to the PC. Your contacts are backup up through Google if you've been saving contacts to your Google account, otherwise Verizon has a backup on the phone as well and when you restart the phone after wipe you can select either or both accounts to restore from.
To factory Reset: Go to Settings (pull down notification bar click on gear top right corner). Then go to Back up and Reset. At the bottom is Factory data reset. Press that then press reset phone. It WILL be completely wiped, but it will keep the current OS version. It'll be like you just bought it. -
Installing problem - kernal panic??
My apologies if this is posted in the wrong area, but I am in dire need of much expertise!
I'm trying to install Mac OS X Tiger on my three year old iBook, and as far as I can tell, it fits the specs perfectly - currently, I'm running on 10.3.9, with a G3 800 MHz processor and 640 mb RAM.
However, when I follow the instructions with the 10.4 disks, just after the installation mode gets to Restart, the system freezes, going to a black screen with the "Please Restart" image on, and the text describing a "Darwin Kernal Version 8.6.2" error. The last line is "panic: we are hanging here."
All I can do is manually restart the computer and eject the disk. I'm really confused - I've never come across this error before, and the only conclusion I can come to is that it is a kernel panic.
Anyone else come across this problem? What can I do to get Tiger to install? (I'm dying to play with the Dashboard widgets!) Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.Hello,
There is a program called XPostFacto that will enable machines that are not supported to run OS 10.4.
So, if it turns out to be an issue of non-support, you might check that out.
There are various links on the page at:
http://eshop.macsales.com/OSXCenter/XPostFacto/
That will lead you to a variety of sources of help on this particular program / subject.
But, your system should meet the requirements. But, even within the requirements, there are older systems (specific models) that will not run the newer OS. But, your system should run it just fine.
Mac OS X Version 10.4 requires a Macintosh with:
PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor
Built-in FireWire
At least 256MB of physical RAM
A built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
At least 3.0 GB of available space on your hard drive; 4GB of disk space if you install XCode 2 developer tools
And, I just checked the document at:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117
And, it doesn't appear as though there are any Firmware updates that should be required for your system.
So, I cannot really think of a good reason for it to have failed.
But, here are a couple of things for you to verify:
1) if you are installing this over an existing OS 10.3.9 installation, do you have at least 4 GB of hard drive space available? It's best to have at least 10, but the retail box says 4 minimum.
2) have you tried resetting the PRAM? This might clear out a weird bug in the system. Restart the computer, and hold down the following keys simultaneously until you hear the chime for the 3rd or 4th time: Option, Command (the Apple), P, and R.
3) Are you trying to install from a Retail Package version of OS X 10.4? You will not be able to install OS 10.4 from an OEM or Upgrade CD set. The OEM CD will say usually have a type of computer (such as iMac, iBook, etc.) printed on it, and will usually be grey in color. The Upgrade CD will say something like it is part of a hardware package and not to be sold separately, and will be black in color.
Neither the Upgrade or the OEM CD or DVD will work for a fresh install of the OS on your computer.
Even if the OEM disk says iBook on it, it still will not work. The OEM disks are keyed to a particular computer model and specific revision of that model. They are not legal for resale, and will not work on other machines.
So, if you are not using the retail boxed version of OS 10.4, then that is likely where your problem is.
4) It's possible that there is some defect in your computer. Have you tried running the hardware test that is on your original installation disks to check the computer for defects?
On some Apple Computers, the hardware test is on either the 1st or 2nd software restore CD / DVD. On other computers, it may be a 3rd disk that was included with the computer. If it's on a 3rd disk, then you would start-up the computer and hold down the letter "C" to boot from the CD-ROM.
See if the computer passes it's hardware test. Be sure to run the most thorough test it has, and also the lighter test. Specifically, test the memory very thoroughly. Some defective memory modules will work until they are used a certain way, and then fail.
5) If it does pass the hardware test, and you are using a retail copy of the OS 10.4 package, then I would try removing the memory you added to the computer. This would be any memory over 256 MB that you installed.
Since OS 10.4 says it needs 256 MB, then you should try to leave that amount in there. But, if you only have one module in there that you added later, then try it with the added module removed.
It's possible that your added memory is out of spec / not fully compatible, or defective.
6) If all that fails, then I would see if you may have a bad installation disk. It's possible that a scratch in the wrong place could be the cause of an installation problem. You might even check for this before you get going again.
That's about all I can think of at the moment. Let us know what you find. -
Kernal Panic Cost Me Money and No Cure
Hi All
There is a history to this problem and so I will try and set it out so it is easy to read:
Macbook Pro Unibody Late 2008 and early 2009. 2.4 Ghz, 4 gig ram upgraeded from 2 gb in 2009 and woked fine since. Did have OSX 10.5.8
1. For a few months in 2012 I had a problem where I kept getting a kernal panic on boot up BUT I lived with it as I could do a PRAM reset or remove battery and put back in and usuallly worked
2. Late 2012 - problem becoming very frequent and so I run lots of diagnostics online hardware test and everything listed on previous posts......no obvious problem
3. In December I decided to get an SSD and installed this however still getting intermitant problem afer initail success
4. After I had tested without I added old hardrive to dvd bay and still intermitant problem but no chnge from when without adding old harddrive
5. I took to a shop to sure it
6. They said they could not find problem but then fixed the chip [suspicious as to what fixed I think they just installed lion] and installed Lion and working but that they had disabled the old drive and said my warranty would tun out if i reconnected - now I am confident that nothing to do with my old drive.
7. I got it back after paying over £100 and looked like it was working at first.
8. I reconnected mu old hard drive and still working no problem
9. I installed live and still working ok
10. I had bought a apple super drive for loading dvds etc and tried to connect - no success - but the guy at the shop said he had connected a dvd drive no problem
11. After a bit oif reseach i discovered that apple in their wisdom disable apple super drvie from macbook pro that origianally had an internel dvd
12. I opened up /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist and chaned to:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>mbasd=1</string>
</dict>
</plist>
basically add the mbasd=1 into the <string>
Now this worked fine but when I first tried to do it I struggled as there is no password set on my mac the guy at shop removed and so i had to add it - this caused a kernal panic at first but then it was ok again
13. I loaded Logic Pro from my super drive
14. Not work initially so download updates etc
15. Logic works great
16. At some point it sarted getting kernal panics again and getting as bad as before
17. I disconnect my old har drive and still getting kernal problems
18. Safe mode has worked a couple of times and once just hung with spinning thing
19. I probably need to get my money back from the guy who tried to fix it but more importantly - I would prefer to get another 2 years out of this macbook pro rather than having to buy a new one or even switching windows etc...
I have so kernal paics below - if anyone could shed any light I would be very gratefull as I have spent far too much time and money on trying to rescue this macbook pro.

com.apple.kext.AppleMatch 1.0.0d1Do a search of this forum for "Problems with Seagate 750GB XT series drive". There is a long thread on users of 2009 MBPs that had many problems with that series drive Until they Replaced the drive cable. Other have posted to that thread with the exact model number of the Updated cable.
It can be found online at places like iFixit.com and maybe OWC, macsales.com.
Funny part about that thread is there was more then one user that kept sending the Seagate drives back to Seagate as defective, Many of them, over and over and that just can't happen. I always contended that it was not a drive problem but a Computer problem. After the original poster, and others that were having the same problems, replaced the cable they never had another problem. -
Ok aloha I was running along smoothly in iTunes after I moved all my music from my iTunes library from my powerbook and in the middle of a song about 5 to 10 mins after this the system crashed to a Kernal panic screen. I cannot start up when I restart or when I insert start up disk. Called Apple and they sent me to the nearest repair shop. Before I go is there any way this isnt hardware, and if not hardware then software problem is my expense!!! Yikes Thank myself I backed up prior. ANY guesses as what this must me?
ALoha ReidFrequently, you can't boot off the installer disk because you tried the 'C' key for startup, when in fact the Option (also known as the Alt key) key works better. Also make sure no additional peripherals are connected when you try this. See if that works first. Here's an article on the Option key startup:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106178
Make sure only to use the disk that came with the computer that installs the operating system or a newer retail operating system disk as this article explains:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25517
If you can, repair the directory as my FAQ explains:
http://www.macmaps.com/directoryfaq.html
If you can't, well, you may have a hardware problem. If your machine is under a year old, you might want to purchase AppleCare so that this and future repairs to damage you couldn't have caused will all be covered under both hardware and software causes for another 2 years. -

Startup in safe-mode [hold the shift key down when you hear the tone and release it when you see the Apple logo]. One you are booted up open MacintoshHD>System>Library>Extentions. In that folder look for the bt broadband or whatever the update was. It will have .kext on it. Throw it in the trash and restart.
If you are not sure which it is you could open the Update you installed with Pacifist and search the files of the installer.
Pacifist can be found at:

Kernal panic/ won't boot from hard drive or installation disc/ error type 1
Friends PowerBook seems to be dying or is possibly dead.
PowerBook G4 model A1138 or M9969LL/A:
15 inch/ 1.67 ... http://support.apple.com/specs/powerbook/PowerBookG4_15-inch_Double-LayerSD.html
K, so my friend's powerbook is in my possession... and not booting.
A week ago, upon booting the laptop, he'd get the old OS9 looking folder flashing with THE happy face and then a question mark. Then, usually, it'd boot. It started taking longer and longer to boot, so he backed up all his stuff. It eventually stopped booting OSx (10.4.10) and came to me asking about how to reinstall Tiger.
As of right now his machine will NOT boot from the hard drive, regularly or in safe mode.
When we try the install CD, we get a kernal panic. It hangs, then tells us to restart. Every time.
Holding down "alt" I tried the hardware diagnostic/ repair thingy from the install disc. It mentions a quick issue with finding Gineva fonts or something and then gives the following errors:
type 1346978644 error 1
type 1346978644 error 1
Invalid memory access at %SRR0:00000000 %SRR1:00083030
Thats about all we got. We are looking for a screw driver to try and remove a stick of ram and see if thats the problem. Any ideas? Hoping for a bad stick of ram or hard drive. Anyone know if for sure the logic board is dead or if there is a way to fix it? Appreciate any feedback. Happy to give more information if you need it!
~joelWhen you did the boot off the original system disk was anything non-Apple externally connected? If not, then you clearly have a hardware problem, and your idea of examining the RAM is not half a bad idea. The only thing you might want to do before that is zapping the PRAM. Sometimes that clears issues such as you describe:
1. First determine if your machine is under 4 years old. If it is, then go ahead
and do step 2. Otherwise do step 3.
2. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
3. Take it to an authorized service center to have the clock battery replaced. That may cause the very issues you described.

Hi there, i have had a white macbook since December '06, and i have recently (withing the last few months) notice that the sound coming out of the speakers is very quite, even with louder music turned all the way up. I am finding this quite annoying
