1st time sync after reinstall

I had to reinstall Win7 on my computer and have reinstalled iTunes, I have my old data (I think). When I did the reinstall there was no mention of my iPhone or Outlook (2010) which must sync with it (the old one did with no problem). I am afraid to just hookup the phone & try and sync as I do not want to lose any information. Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance... Bob

Did you include you iTunes library with your computer's backup and has your iTunes library been restored from your computer's backup along with all other important data such as documents, photos, etc.? In addition, you will need to re-authorize your computer with your iTunes account with iTunes.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751
If you did not include your Outlook data with your computer's backup - contacts and calendar events which should have been included, before the first sync for this data enter one contact and one calendar event in Outlook. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select.

What "new system" did you reinstall?
Are you upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard?
Or did you reinstall Leopard?  If so, why and how (that may provide a clue)?
How is your Mac connected to the Time Capsule (use Ethernet for best results)?
You may need to repair the backups, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.

  • New 5th Gen iPod, 1st time sync 15 hours & still going?  What's wrong?

My library is 53GB, is this why it is taking so long? When I had 4th Gen 60GB Photo is took about 3.5 hours 1st time sync. What is going wrong? Please help!
    Happy Holidays,
    Sebastian

My 8GB of info took my computer 3.5 hours with a USB 1.1 connection (I don't have USB 2.0 on my tower). Are you using an older computer this time? A different USB port than before? When I added songs to my iPod from my laptop, which does have USB 2.0, it went lightning fast... compared to my tower.
It sounds like you've got a USB 1.1 connection, so, doing the math, it should take about 24 hours to transfer 53GB of info... according to my calculations.

  • How to sync with Firefox sync after reinstalling Windows? I only have one device.

Just like this user I was syncing only one device. After reinstalling windows, I can't reconnect and I don't have the recovery key...
What can I do? To access my bookmarks, favorites, etc?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately I'm missing the recovery key and don't synch with other devices so I guess that means I'm out of luck...
Maybe this is something that can be added to the roadmap for future improvements. I don't see a reason why you can't get your information back after a reset if you've only got one device.

  • TS1363 is it possible to restore files to an ipod, that had been deleted whilst trying to sync with ITunes - 1st time sync???...

Good evening, hopefully you can help a poor fellow in a big problem.  Tried to sync - 1st time - ITunes on a new computer.  Instead of syncing, it wiped all the music files off of my IPod Series 4.  Too make matters a bit more complicated, the IPod has a defective power on/off button, that has dislodged itself and doesn't actually do anything.  Please, tell me that I have not lost all my music, and that it can be restored.  It has not backed up/saved to ITunes on this computer.  Thanks in advance for your help in this most bloody annoying of situations...

So you did not copy your iTunes library from old computer to new computer?
Please, tell me that I have not lost all my music, and that it can be restored.
Do yo u have the old computer with your iTunes on it?
Do you have a backup of that old computer?
Yoo can take the iPod into an Apple store and have them take a look at it.

  • 1st time syncing since initial sync after purchase

This is a general question. My boss's wife has an iPhone 3G (possibly 3GS). After she bought the phone a couple of years ago she synced it for the first time on her son's computer (Windows- not sure what version). She has never synced it since. I just showed her how to download music from iTunes via phone & PC. She only has some apps on phone and one (Yes, ONE) song on her iPhone. She wants to use pc at work as her computer to sync with. Will she lose all data like ipods do when she syncs to new pc? The one song is no big deal. She is more worried about apps (most if not all are free that she has) and contacts and photos. Thanks for help and sorry this is long-winded. She has a lot to learn to realize the potential of her 2yr old iPhone. Thanks for any help!

Yes, she will lose everything if she just hooks up to and sync's with what will be regarded as a "new" computer. If you will just look back over the last 2 or 3 pages of posts, this question has honestly been asked at least 10 times just this week alone. There are some excellent answers on the exact sequence which needs to followed. Search under or look for synching to new computer, or computer crash. This is doable.

  • Firefox Sync don't sync after reinstall windows.

Afret reinstall I loged into Firefox sync and started to wait sync. Nothing happened. I tried once or twice restart firefox, and sync still didn't work. I decided to reinstall firefox with deleting profile folder. After that I loged into F sync and it downloaded history and etc., that I created a couple of minutes ago. I don't understand why it wont download my last profile info.

Yes, you're right. I have always used it like backup, but this time i changed password. Thank you for the clarification.

  • Syncing after reinstalling Leopard

So I reinstalled Leopard, and for some dumb reason my iPod says that it normally gets synced with another library and that if I want to sync it with this one, I have to erase everything on it (which is problematic because I haven't backed it up in a month).
I'd like to know how I can backup my setting and apps, erase my iPod, sync it with my library, and then transfer music without getting rid of all of my applications and their settings.
    Thanks a bunch,
    SeanDaBomb

Start itunes, disable automatic sync. Connect your ipod, backup manually by right click on "ipod" in left itunes media window. This backup will contain all settings but no music or videos and you can use it to restore after your ipod was wiped the first time you synced. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
    and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414.
Transfer your purchases als well (File>transfer purchases)
As you still have your itunes library on your mac, you can sync content afterwards. You can download your apps again for free http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1977

  • Time Machine after reinstall and new user acct

3 TB eSATA drive used for months as TM back up. Drive had 300GB or so free space available after last B/U before having to format my boot drive.
Following reinstall of OS 10.9.2,I was not able to transfer user files using TM after several trials - it simply locked up with no error message. So, I skipped using B/U and created a new uswer account with same name as previous user account but with a new password.  I then used the last B/U to manually restore user files and selected Apps.
In System Preferences/Time Machine, I selected the same 3 TB TM drive I had been using and left the excluded items unchanged.  The B/U calcualted size was 2.72 TB, the same as before my set up with new user account.  Prior to starting a new B'U I checked TM and found B/Us going back for quite a few weeks.
The next B/U for lack of space, with the mnessage that I only had 1.12 TB of space and the B/U needed 1.26 TB.  I recalled that I had added some items to one of the included external drives prior to the restore and after the last B/U, so I excluded those new additions.  The next B/U also failed and now the required space for the B/U was listed as greater than the first attempt.  More disturbing, the ONY remaining B/U on the 3 TB drive now, after several mnore effrots to exclude as much as possible, is the last B/U I did before the format and restore process.
In Finder, the TM disk shows 1.12 TB free.  It lists 2 B/Us - the last successful one and one fron this mornign listed as inprogress.
I changed my user account password to be the same as previously and logged out then bac in, then tried rebotting and after both times, the same failure occurred.  I used Sstem OPreferences to unselct the 3 TB drive and select another one, then reselected the 3 TB again - still no joy.
It appears that TM is unable to add to the exsiting B/U and is trying to create a new one, or that it doesn't see existing files in the old B/U as the same as the new ones and is trying to create lots of duplicates.

    Hi VK
    A supplementray question:
I have one i-mac happily backing up with Time Machine to an external hard drive.
I have just bought a second i-mac (stops the fighting!) and propose to use migration assistant to move my [admin] account from the old to the new i-mac leaving two other accounts on the old one. I see from your posts that it seems as if Time Machine will start a new back up series for the new i-mac's back ups. But what about the old i-mac? Will that continue to extend the existing Time Machine back up files, albeit without my transferred account and its files? If so, should I partition the external drive and start the new back ups from the new i-mac on this new partition. I'd like to end up with the old i-mac continuing to build its Time Machine back ups (less my account and its files) and have a new back up series from the new i-mac building to a separate partition on the external drive.
Does this make sense? I can't see an answer in the forum to what must be a reasonably common issue in this expandin mac world.

  • HT4413 Trying to restore my iMac from Time Capsule after reinstalling the OS X

Had to reinstall the OS after replacing the power supply and finding the OS corrupted. Originally the iMac came with 10.4.7 which we upgraded to 10.6.8. Now trying to restore the data from my time capsule using  migration assistant  only to get the message that the backups were done with a newer version of OS X. I checked the version installed and it's up to date.
How can I get the data and how is it possible that the version is newer given that the same disks were used??

  • IPad problem with syncing after reinstall

i have reinstalled windows 7 recently and when i plugged my ipad to be synced with some new apps i found that itunes demand the data that is not currently in the itunes library because i reinstalled the whole disk containing this information(i don't know why it just don't merges it). Anyway, i have accepted this and selected the new apps to be installed, and that's where the problem begins. On step 2 of 3 (determining apps to sync) it doesn't sync at all the selected apps and then finishes syncing without the apps appearing on the ipad.
It still has the apply button to sync them but it doesn't do anything at all. Any suggestions regarding this situation because i don't really understand what wrong with it ...

  • Time Machine after Reinstalling HD

I upgraded to Yosemite, and my iMac started going slow. There was some sort of kernal_task. Long story short I gave up trying to fix it and I decided to erase the Mac HD and reinstall Yosemite. Everything is fine, except now I want to add some files and folders back to the Mac HD from Time Machine and I want to reactivate Time machine. My question is, if I activate Time machine to restore a bunch of files, will time machine reformat the external HD thus losing the contents?
Possibly a stupid question but I never had to restore from time machine.
    Thanks,

No, it won't reformat the backup drive or your computer's drive.

  • HT201263 i was told i could re-sync after reinstalling itunes, etc. I've lost 99% of my apps on  my ipad and cannot find how to recover it.

after updating to IOS6. i had to do a restore. i was told i could sync the ipad to retrieve all apps, but it's not happening. I've lost 99% of the apps and all pictures. Any suggestions?

I managed to lose an earlier reply I'd started before you came back with your "solved" so I didn't bother to retype it.
    It went something like this:
You should be able to recover the media with the tips in  this post from forum regular Zevoneer but I'm not sure what the implications are for your application settings. You can probably transfer your purchases into an authorised library, backup the device, recover any other media using third party tools, then restore the device from the backup.
The older .itl file is useful however as iTunes should see this as the "home" library for your device which will allow you to preserve the application settings. (.itl file? Mac? I assume the library has migrated from PC to Mac at some point). Any files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder or did you kill those as well? The most recent of these would be the best place to start.
And no, the .itl file is not editable by mortals...
Once you've restored the media from backups or recovered whatever else you useful can from the device, the scripts MusicFolder Files Not Added and Super Remove Dead Tracks should help get the library up to speed with the contents of the media folder.

  • Ipod sync after reinstall

I have many photos on my Ipod and books from Audible.com and cds that I cannot figure out how to sync back to our Imac. We did an "erase and install" and now it is saying that it cannot sync to this computer because it is already with the old computer. It is the same computer, and I authorized the new one and it did not help. I did get it to sync with the stuff I BOUGHT over iTunes, but anything else it threatens to erase the iPod and put the new library on(which is nothing except a few iTunes purchases). I think I should have done a formal backup to the iPod, but I thought just having them on it would work? (we did the erase and install due to the freezing and beachball of death kept happening).

Be very careful when connecting an iPod full of music to an empty iTunes library. There is very real risk of permanently losing all the music.
To prevent auto sync, connect the iPod whilst holding down the 'Command + Option' keys and do not let them go until your iPod appears in iTunes.
If you see a message that your iPod is associated with a different library and asks if you want to link to a new one, make sure you press "Cancel".
If you should click on "Erase and Sync" will erase all the content currently on your iPod and it will be replaced with the content of the iTunes library you just connected to.
When you've pressed cancel your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list under "devices" and allow you to change the update setting to manage the iPod content manually, and that will let you use your iPod for the time being without the risk of accidentally erasing the contents.
Then do any of the following to transfer your music from iPod back to the computer/iTunes.
    Try iPodDisk.
Similar programs are Expod, Yamipod, Senuti and Music Rescue.
If you want to retrieve playlists, iPodRip has the feature enabling you to reconstruct them.
If you copied photos to your iPod using the full resolution option, enable disk use, open your iPod in "my computer" in Windows or Finder on a Mac, open the photos folder then open the "full resolution" folder and drag the photos out of that folder to your desktop. For enabling disk use look here.
    Disk Use.
If you only copied the photos as thumbnails, you can't do this so you'll need a program such as this one.
    iPod Photo Copy. (Windows only)
iPod Photo Liberator. (both Mac and Windows versions available)
Photos as thumbnails won't be of the original quality when copied back to your computer.

  • Attempting 1st time sync and software duplicates first name as middle name

I am attempting my 1st sync between my Blackberry Pearl 8130 device and my Microsoft Outlook.  When I do this the software is automatically duplicating the first name of many of my contacts and then proceeding to add the same first name to the middle name as well.  Is there a way for me to synchronize my Blackberry device without adding these incorrect duplicate middle names?  If not, is there a simple way to edit anything in the synchronization process, and if so how?
    Thanks!

Thanks for your reply, but this script will result in the format "John Quincy"
I need a script that will result in the following format: "John Q.".
The script will need to extract the middle initial (first character) of the "EMP_MiddleName" field.
