1st Vista Install on Mini '09 No More Mac only Vista.

I just installed Vista Ultimate on my new Mini '09. Left Mac OSX disc at home but downloaded BC Updater 2.1 for Vista 32 on another computer. Vista install seemed fine. Now Mac only boots to Vista, even with option key on start. Copied BC Updater to Vista drive, launch, get Vista User Account Control dialog, select Allow, but Updater won't launch. I'm stuck with only Windows for now. Can you imagine how that *****? Will try actual Mac install DVD tonight but if the downloaded file won't launch, I may have a problem. Any help? Anyone?

Yes, if you prefer not to download it again on the other laptops.  As the other posters have mentioned, you can alternatively just re-download Lion from the store on the other laptops using the same Apple ID.

  • Clean install of Vista on 2010 Mini has no sound or ethernet

I've installed Vista (32 bit) and Office 2007 on a Mac Mini 2010 using Bootcamp. Although Wifi works and connects to my router ethernet doesn't. I noticed it didn't during the install. Have tried various combinations, including using another Mac to share it's wifi connection via ethernet and all just show that although Vista thinks the ethernet is healthy it doesn't connect. Boot up in Snow Leopard and all is good.
As for the sound Device Manager shows a problem with the Cirrus driver. I've tried uninstalling and letting Vista install it's own drivers (no luck) and reinstalling the bootcamp drivers to no avail.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Went after an updated ethernet driver at the Broadcom site and got hijacked by a program called Driver Detective which scans the system and wants to take over and wants you to register. Maybe it would work but I'm suspicious. More careful browsing of the Broadcom site located some drivers which I downloaded and installed. Worked!, for a little while and will work again, for a little while. That's better than before when it didn't work at all.
At least that show's it's definitely a driver issue so I'm happy enough to tag this as answered and give up for a while.

  • I want to install XP Pro SP2 on a Mac Mini from a 2003 RIS server.

I want to install XP Pro SP2 on a Mac Mini from a 2003 RIS server. Is this possiIble? How is it done?
The mac has 10.5 which has bootcamp to enable Windows install. I have created a partition but the bootcamp utility asks for a CD. I want to install a RIS build. The Mac has a option for network boot but this seems to only work with Mac Server. I assume the network adapter is not PXE compatible and so a boot disk of some kind will be needed to kick this off?.

    Hi Rick,
by "repair" I mean I went to the control panel, option - programs and features, and in the list of all my installed programs I selected "Apple Software Update". On top of the screen you find the options Uinstall, Change and Repair. I clicked the repair button and that did the trick. After the repair I could uninstall the program. I also uninstalled iTunes, Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support en Bonjour, thus all Apple programs. Then I installed iTunes 10.5 again and everything went fine.
    Success,

  • How do I install Photoshop Elements 6 on the Mac-mini?

How do I install Photoshop Elements 6 on the Mac-mini? I keep getting the following message:
x Installation cannot continue until the following applications are closed:
    flash_server
Please close the application(s) listed above and click "Try Again" to continue the installation. Click Cancel to exit Setup.
How can I resolve this problem without screwing anything up? Your help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Your right. It won't make any sense to subscribe for a software that I don't own. I have CS5 on my Dell Laptop which has been giving me issues, so I re-installed the Operating System along with all my editing programs and nothing more. So I can toggle between the Mac and the PC to get the job done in the meantime. I will eventually get CS6 for the Mac.

  • Why Toshiba notebooks are not delivered with the common Vista install CD

Our household now has two x Toshiba laptops, both of which were supplied with MS Vista Home Premium pre-installed.
The nature of the Recovery Media provided with these machines is such that (a) we do not have sufficient flexibility over volume/partition sizes, program locations etc., and, more specifically.
It makes it necessary for the majority of the bundled software (Norton Security etc.,) to be installed by default in the event of a system failure. (And immediately uninstalled following recovery! An unnecessary waste of time.)
Bearing in mind that a proportion of the price paid for each laptop must have included a cost for the Vista Operating System, does anyone know if it is possible to obtain a Master Recovery disk which ONLY consists of the operating system, and which allows us the flexibility of configuration which used to be available when the OS was purchased as a separate product.
Additionally, please let me know if it is possible to purchase Toshiba laptops as a RAW machine, i.e no OS supplied, and I will then buy my own and cut out the rubbish which is supplied on the pre-installed media.

    >Why Toshiba notebooks are not delivered with the common Vista install CD?
The answer is very simple: software is bundled to hardware and when you buy notebook you buy license for preinstalled Vista version and you can install recovery media so often you want and it belongs JUST to your notebook model. It cannot be used with other notebook or PCs.
If you get usual Vista installations DVD it can be installed on each computer system. For such purposes you must buy Microsoft installations DVD.
As you already wrote Toshiba recovery image contains much software that can be not useful for you. You can remove it from the system and nobody force you to use them. I do the same.
After clean OS installation the first thing I do is to remove or software I don't need or I don't like.
I optimise preinstalled OS on my own.

Normally Microsft allows the installation of their programs, except Operating Systems, to be installed on a desktop and notebook at the same time as long as both system are used exclusively by the same person and Not at the same time.
So this should also be true for MS Office for Mac. The only way to tell is to install it on the Mini and then use the same key to activate it. If the activation goes through you are fine. But if you run both system at the same time do not open any of the Office programs on both system at the same time. That may trigger MS to disallow one of the activations.
MS Office for both Mac and Windows checks the local network and logs into the MS activation site everytime one of the apps is started to check current activation and to check if you have it running on more then one computer on your local network using the same key.

  • Mac Pro Vista Install Experience Notes

Well, I read many posts on this board and others before taking the plunge. Got my new Pro about two weeks ago; decided to do this cause the kids are buggin me about "games", whatever those are. Man, oh man, do you PC users ever have my undying sympathy and respect after going through this! Man, and, uh, WOman, you've certainly got a pair, <choose which pair here>. ; )
Its hard to believe all the fun I've been missing by actually USING my computer all these years as a MAC user instead of working on it! YOWSER!
Anyways, for all you masochists out there, here's some painful details:
Still having a very clean HD, or so I thought! I installed bootcamp and followed the instructions to create a 32GB partition (and NO more than 32GB mind you, because, this is WINDOWS and that's what it said).
Then, having created my trusty Vista install disk (oh, did I forget to mention, how could I, that it took me 2 HOURS to get a MICROSOFT PRODUCT KEY by following just these easy 79 steps? AND THEN I DIDN'T NEED IT! Funny, ha ha. Boy, they had me rolling after that one!)
Then, following the bootcamp instructions carefully, I started windows, which then asked me for the second time to identify a partition for windows. Weird though, it listed FOUR partitions when I could swear I only had 2: one for OSX and the one I created in bootcamp for Vista! Four? Yep! Well, this one should be easy....just select the one that is 32GB cause that is the size I created in bootcamp....click ok....and YOUR DISK DRIVERS ARE SO SCREWED UP THAT WE ARE LAUGHING IN REDMOND! or some such error code!
After reading enough notes on this board (thank you, all), I learned that there seemed to be a general problem with the partitioning recognition in windows, and that many, by the simple act of deleting a partition, got Windows to work correctly.
NOW THE HARD PART: staring at the list of partitions, It said I had a 200GB, a 201GB, a 128MB and a 32GB partition. Huh? I only have a 250GB drive! How's that work? After thinking this through scientifically, I mentally flipped a coin and decided to delete the 201GB partition for the reasons that it was listed second in the list and 201GB sounded FUNNY. So.....click on 201GB....then delete....ZAP! GONE! with a friendly little reminder that all my data was being deleted! yikes!
well, after a couple of crashes on startup, Vista now seems to be working somewhat as expected, and, JOY OF JOYS!, holding down the option key I could still boot into good old OS X and there was my data! whew!
so, I don't know if this will help anybody or not, because its not very scientific and all, as I just seemed to have lucked into picking the right partition to delete! and still live to see another day.
please, someone pat me on the back before I realize what I just did.
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2GB RAM, nVidia graphics

It was a "learning experience." There are always hidden partitions. That 128MB is probably the Mac EFI partition? There is always some hidden partition in-between each user partition too.
I would install Vista but afraid I'm not ready to install all the security, AV and other tools to feel safe on the net.

  • Vista install without keyboard?

I currently run Vista in VMware fusion and I have no problems at all.
Although performance isn't an issue I'd like to install Vista via boot camp.
The problem is I don't have a USB keyboard (I do have a USB mouse), I only have the old and new apple wireless keyboards.
Also a while back I installed some extra RAM and now my mini doesn't close 100% flush. It runs fine and is closed most of the way so theres no airflow problems but its a bit annoying to know that theres a tiny gap in the back of my mini.

I think you may need to borrow a USB keyboard to get Vista installed if you don't want to go out and buy one - they can be had for very little money these days, and almost any USB keyboard will do, including generic PC models.
In terms of the casing not fitting, this would indicate you have not reassembled the system correctly, or in the process of upgrading the system, have dislodged something (the Airport or BT antenna perhaps). While it's possible the system will run perfectly well in that condition, it is also possible that it could be suffering a problem with internal airflow and thus be tending to overheat, or that the optical drive slot will not be correctly aligned and you may therefore have problems with inserting/ejecting certain disks. In short, this is something you really need to resolve! In this situation I would open up the system again, and (if necessary using the reference videos in such places as www.macsales.com) check that everything is seated and assembled correctly.

  • How do I install Windows 8 on Mountain Lion (mac mini) 2010 Server using bootcamp with out Optical Drive?

I have a 2010 Mac Mini server running 10.8.4 (12E55).  I just bought a brand new copy of Windows 8 from micrsoft.  I have tried using boot camp and it will not recognize a burned DVD in my remote optical drive on my laptop running windows 7 or my macbook running Lion 10.7.5.   I have had Microsoft on both of my computers remoted in for about 8 hours and they tried just about everything that I've tried.
Microsofts tech support has made me a bootable DVD and a bootable Flash Drive through remote desktop (awsome good job microsoft tech support).  I have even tried formatting my mac mini's second 500GB hard drive to FAT32 using this whole disc as my windows partition.  I know that when I go to install windows 8 it is going to reformat the drive to NTFS but all the articles that I've found, say this is what you have to do to get the drive formatted properly to get the ball rolling and get windows will fix it when it goes to install by reformatting to NTFS.
Ok so right now I have my second 500GB hdd on my mac mini formatted to FAT32 and I have tried to reboot holding my option key like I do on my mac book.  If I want to boot to a different hdd on my macbook all I do is hold the OPTION key during start up and you get prompted to choose one of the bootable disc that is on your computer.  Well if I put my USB drive which is bootable on my macbook into my macbook and do this right now its not showing up.
Now I just put the DVD that they made me in my macbook and it shows up as bootable disc.  But the USB doesn't.  (1 hour later)  I just got microsft to remake the USB drive and am going to try that again so ta ta for now and I'll come back on to post to tell you if it works.

These apps paralells and fusion and virtualbox, are they in Mac App Store? And when I have the app installed what then, now it ain't only bootcamp what shall I do now to install windows 8?

Parallels, Fusion, and VirtualBox are available from their respective sites. Read their installation instructions which explain how to install Windows.

  • SDHC card does nor work on Satellite A200-1J0 with a clean Vista install

    Greetings,
When I bought this notebook there was preinstalled Vista 32bit and as usual some Toshiba's drivers and software. As I remeber there was no problems with built in memory card reader, it was reading regular SD cards and also SDHC.
One day I had to reinstall operating system (without using recovery disc) and i've downloaded drivers for my notebook from official site, installed them and the card reader now it's not able to read SDHC cards. Is it just me?
This is what I installed for reader:
-Toshiba Value Added Package where is TOSHIBA Flash Cards inside of it
    -Flashmedia Driver
    -SD Utilities
I just want to highlight that there's no problem with reading mmc or normal sd cards.
My sdhc card is 100% working properly with other card readers.
Another sdhc card that I have is not working, it's just like I put nothing inside the reader.
    Just nothing happens.
Is there anything else that I missed and this is the reason of my problem?
Any fix for Vista or something like that?

    Dear Jeffrey,
My problem is solved, thank you so much! :)
    This words were very helpful:
"Mostly an installation instruction is placed on the Toshiba European driver page which contains the essential installation order."
So I went on that site and found file where was written:
    Contents and Installation order

    WINDOWS VISTA
    No. Component Name Version
    1 Windows Vista RTM

Thanks to that file I've found that I haven't installed "TI Multiple Digital Media Card Reader". In toshiba european download site there's nothing like that so nothing weird that I didn't find that before. Here google became a good companion and helped me to find that file. I just simply installed it without deinstaling previously installed drivers (just like is NOT written in install order above) and it's working :)
    Thank you once again!
    Best regards,
    Davit

  • I bought a mac mini with Lion pre-installed.  If I upgrade my mac mini to Mountain Lion, am I free to install Lion on my older macbook using the mini license?

I currently have two macs.  A 2008 macbook which is running Snow Leopard, can run Lion, and cannot run Mountain Lion.  I also have a mac mini which came with Lion pre-installed.  I plan on upgrading my mini to Mountain Lion when it's available.  After I upgrade, it seems like I should be able to install Lion on my macbook using the license that came with my mini.
I have found many articles about making a DVD or bootable USB drive to recover, or install Lion onto other macs.  So, I am not tied to the mac app store.  And I am not worried about how to install Lion onto the macbook.
I have also read a few discussions about upgrading using pre-installed Lion license.  From what I've read, if someone buys Lion through the app store, they can install it on all of their macs.  But, if they have a machine the came with Lion pre-installed they can only use Lion on one machine.  However it is unclear if that license can be transferred to another machine.
Another common answer that I have seen is, "Don't be cheap!  Just buy Lion throught the app store."  This is not about money, I'm interested in the technical challange, and the leagal question.
Does anyone have experience with this, or opinions?

If your machine came with Lion preinstalled, you cannot use it on another machine. It is tied to the machine it came with. You are allowed to make a one time transfer of the OS when you sell the machine as long as it remains with that machine.
If you purchase Lion from the app store, you are free to install it on as many Macs as you own - however, if/when you sell one of those Macs, you are required to uninstall Lion as the license is not transferable and you need to reinstall the original OS.
You can read the SLA for yourself - the link to the downloads to all licenses is here:
