1TB Canvio freezing computer during boot up

I have a new Canvio 1TB Ext HD HDTC710XK3A1. My desktop computer will freeze up during boot up if the Canvio is plugged into USB port. Unplugged the computer will boot up OK. I have also tried this on my laptop and the problem also occurs. If I plug in the Canvio after computers are up and running the computers work OK untill the next boot up so I have to disconnect after I shut down the computer. Any fix for this problem so I can leave the Canvio plugged in all of the time?

  • Windows Installer-Roxio Media Manager freezes computer when booting up..

I sure hope someone can tell me what the solution to my problem is.  I am quite the novice so please, if you have an answer, make the solution as simple as possible. When I turn on my computer and it's trying to load everything, I first get a box with Windows Installer at the top and Roxio Media Manager at the bottom, which hangs up my computer. This just happened one day out of the blue, maybe a few weeks ago.  This morning  I left my computer about 15min after I turned it on, and when I came back to it, the BB Desktop Manager was in the background with the box I mentioned above on top of it, and it had totally frozen up my computer and all I could do was shut my computer off with the on/off switch.  I had to do this shutdown several times after trying to get my computer booted up.  One day when this box above popped up I right away went to Windows Task Manager and ended the task and the box went away.  My computer then booted up but was very very very slow, almost like it was freezing up, so I waited and eventually my computer booted up and it was fine.  If I don't get to this box and end the task almost as soon as it pops up, it freezes my computer.  I don't know if I caused something by starting to "End Task" when box popped up or not.  I'm at a total loss at what to do.  I don't want to have to keep doing this every day.  I've come very close to just uninstalling the BB Desktop Manager.  I hope there is someone out there that can understand what this problem is and can help me.  I don't know if I've explained it clearly enough or not.  Please help!!!

on the blackberry.com website, you can download the Desktop Manager without Media Manager.

  • Sophos freezes computer during scan

I've tried 4 scans now and my computer freezes midway through each. I'm unable to force quit or open activity monitor to kill the process, I have to force shutdown by holding the power button. My computer is not freezing at any other point during normal use, it's only midway through a scan. I'm running 10.10.4 (the beta), are there any bugs known to cause this? When it freezes up it says 'issues detected', but I understand this is a common message.

The list of issues is in the scan log. But its probably not relevant.
We are not aware of issues with 10.10.4. Do you get any messages in your system.log contaning the text EWOULDBLOCK?

  • IDVD 4 now freezes the entire computer during burning

    Hello,
iDVD 4 now freezes my entire computer during burning somewhere around stage 3. I can't even force quit. This never happened before - it does so while burning a project that had been burned successfully many times in the past and also new projects. I did have a bad RAM problem weeks ago - which is fixed now. Tried fixing permissions and cleared out enough free space. This is wierd - it has been working for years.
    Thanks very much,
    NIck M.

    Hi
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
iDVD pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named:
    com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match: iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Last resort: from Craig: Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.

  • Freeze during boot after enabling Hyper-V feature in Windows 8

    Good day.
I'm using AMD FX 8320 with 990FXA-GD65. After enabling hyper-v my pc freezing during boot.  Google told me that it might be issue with USB 3.0 controller, so i disabled it in bios, but result still the same.
Can you please tell me where should i look at?

    Hi,
Please try to boot into WinRE and run the Startup Repair option.
Generally speaking, when you add feature like Hyper-V, system would take a long time to get this feature configured. if your computer still stay updates configuration steps, you can use Windows 8.1 installation image to repair system. In system repair mode,
you can access into Command Prompt mode, and check CBS.log under C:\Windows\logs\CBS.
This log file would record Windows installation process, we may find the problem of Hyper-V installation.

  • MacBook 2010 (white) freezing during boot up with 4 Gb RAM

I have a 13" MacBook 2009 (white) with 4 GB RAM installed by Apple. I upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard without a hitch. However, when I upgraded to LION, the computer initially started to freeze sporadically during regular usage then simply froze just before the login screen every time it was rebooted. I took it in to the Apple Store and th Genius staff kept it for 2 days. They tested the RAM. Turns out that the MacBook only recognizes 2 GB of RAM now. Doesn't matter which 2 GB stick I put in which slot, it freezes on boot up. The computer boots up fine with either 2 GB stick in either slot. I would obviously prefer to have the computer run with all 4 GB. I have tried all the steps identified in the article "Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup" http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2570 to no avail, including the last step, "Perform an Erase and Install installation of Mac OS X as a last resort." I have searched through the Communities and tried all the suggested fixes. Nada. I have also upgraded to 10.7.3 which came out last week and retried all the steps. Again, nothing. Has anyone had a similar problem and, more importantly, found a fix? FYI, the computer is no longer on Apple Care and so replacing the motherboard is not an option. Thanks!

  • HP Pavillion p6240f freezes during boot up - Not enough space in Runtime area!!

    Hello,
My HP Pavillion p6240f desktop freezes during boot up.  After POSTing and listig the USB connections, it displays the following on the bottom of the screen:
Not enough space in Runtime area!! SMBIOS data will not be available. Press F1 to resume.
I went into setup, and this is the BIOS data:
AMI BIOS revision 5.16  BIOS Date: 01/13/2010
    Core Version 08.00.15
Can anyone help me?  I have found no solutions after heavily searching the internet, and it is important that this computer have unattended reboot after a power outage.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Try clearing the CMOS.
If the above doesn't work then remove two of the four dimms (every odd dimm) and then again clear the CMOS. If this should work then power down and reinstalled the two dimms and again clear the CMOS and reboot.
If the above doesn't work then you might have to visit the local PC repair shop.
If you can get unattended boot after power outage to work then there is a bios setting that needs to be changed. Boot into the bios and look under the power drop down. The after AC power failure needs to be set to AUTO (restart). Be sure to save the settings.

  • I'm having trouble with my computer, I boot it up and within a few minutes it freezes and I have to restart it, I tried updating it to the latest mavericks but it won't finish the installation it's stuck at the end, what can I do to fix this?

As stated I'm having trouble with my computer, I boot it up and within a few minutes it freezes and I have to restart it, I tried updating it to the latest mavericks but it won't finish the installation it's stuck at the end, what can I do to fix this? I need it for homework tonight.

    Crowntheme,
you can try this: boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does it still freeze after a few minutes?

  • Computer sometimes shuts down during boot, help please.

    Hey guys,
    My specs:
    2500K @ 4.5 GHz 1.37V (12 Hours P95 stable + 10 IBT passes)
    MSI Z77A-GD65
    8GB DDR3-1600 Corsair Vengeance (2x4GB)
    EVGA GTX680 Superclocked
    Crucial M4 SSD 128GB
    WD 1TB Caviar Blue
    Seasonic X-650 PSU
The PC is roughly 1 year old and I built it.
Problem is, and this has been ongoing since I built it, sometimes, when I turn on the PC, it will start booting and then power itself off, after that it turns itself back on and Windows 7 loads, exactly what happens when you apple new OC settings for example.
There is never more than 1 shutdown when this happens and it never happens when the PC is on and working, just during boot.
I ruled out heating issues, everything is well ventilated in my Corsair 650D case, all fans are working and the CPU temps are good (Using Zalman CNPS10X cooler)
I think we can also rule out any PSU issues since I recently tested my PC with P95 again after updating my BIOS for more than 12 hours and it was rock solid. I've also never had a shutdown during gaming since I got the PC.
My Overclock is raw, I have disabled, EuP 2013, C1E, EIST, Overspeed Protection, Intel C-State.
Is there any BIOS setting which could be causing this? I noticed that there's a setting under EuP 2013 called "Restore after AC Power Loss" and you can choose Power Off/Power On/Last State. But I think it only related to occasions where the PC gets shut down due to a power outage?
I am inclined to think that this issue is more related to a MB BIOS setting than to the PSU since I never had any stability issues with the PC during OC testing or when gaming.
Which leaves me with the Power outlet. I am using an outlet splitter and currently there are 7 products connected to 1 socket:
    1. PC
    2. Yamaha RXV-471 Receiver
    3. Morel Sub-8 Subwoofer
    4. PS3 (Off 99% of the time)
    5. Internet Modem/Router
    6. TV Box
    7. 42" LED TV Screen
The only thing I can think of is that maybe when booting up, not enough power is provided to the PSU and it turns off?
I have 1 other clear outlet next to the one being used and I'm fairly certain they both go to the same place in the panel because they are adjacent.
I can also try to replace the power cord, however, I replaced it once and I do recall it was happening prior to replacing the cord several months ago.
    Any suggestions? Thanks

That's normal, the memory you have is 1333 with an overclock profile of 1600. (XMP) The double cold boot has been an issue for ages on the z77a-gd65 although I thought it was corrected by the latest bios's.
Oh so true. When it is really cold in the morning, not always, at first start of the machine, I will get a double boot behavior on a Z68 G3. No big deal, as xmad stated, this double boot behavior has been a trait of Intel for a long time. Usually disable of EuP 2013 cures it, but the OC and particular frequency combinations play a part in it, and mysteriously, cold mornings once in awhile.

I do not have a startup disk. I did try fsck (based on what I learned from your reply-thank you). This failed (fsck); here is the message:
    ** Checking catalog file.

I am sure this is an easy fix; I just have no clue how.

  • [solved] Hard disk security parameters freeze during boot

    Hi fellow archers!
Currently I am trying to pin point a problem I have. I have an old PC of mine setup as some kind of experimental playground. My problem is that the security options of my driver become frozen during powering up this PC. It is a fresh and empty Arch installation with just sshd running and no services has been installed that should set the drive security-freeze. I am trying to figure out who is locking it, my current suspicion is the mainboard/BIOS itself, but I need to be sure, that there is no script during executing Arch boot setting the freeze parameter. -- Oh if someone one if the ASUS A8N32-SLI is doing such nasty stuff, it would be great to know.
Thanks in advance for your feedback

Hi, it's not really a fix for the problem, but I now know what happens. It is really the mainboard BIOS who freezes the security state of my hdds. So what I did was to build a power switch for my hdd. During boot I switch the power and linux will detect the sata drive (haven't tested it with IDE drives) and I can work with it.
