  • I have a mac Book Pro and and iMac, both with Thunderbolt. I connect my thunderbolt cable to each and each tells me that it is connected to the other, but when I try secondary screen in Aperture it is still grey and not available, what do I have to do to?

I have a Mac Pro and an Imac, both with thunderbolt. When I connect the two together with a thunderbolt cable each recognises the other as shown in the system report, but when I try to use second screen in Aperture, the option is still grey and unavailable. What do i have to do to activate second screen in Aperture via thunderbolt?

In actual fact this seems a bigger problem than I thought. Linking the two computers via the Thundernolt cable and selecting cmd F2 no longer shares the screen at all and Apple say it may not be able too in Mointain Lion - What are they playing at, hundreds of customers link computers together and share the screens - Lets hope they are wrong and tell us what we need to do other than move back to Windows.

  • Airport Extreme won't connect with my cable modem (Time Warner)

OK, I'm tired of staring at a blinking amber light. I'm reaching out to anyone out there who's had this problem. I've got everything connected right, the software loaded, the connections set on my laptop (Macbok Pro). But still my Airport Extreme won't connect to the Internet. I've tried different cables, rebooting both my modem and my Airport. For the record, I've had a Mac IT guy from my advertising agency come by my house and make sure that everything's installed and hooked up right. But it still keeps saying that my IP address is invalid, even though I can connect (wired) using the modem.
I suspect I'll just have to take it to the Genius Bar or something. But anybody got any ideas? I really want to join the 'n' generation....

Did you power off the cable modem when switching the Ethernet connection from laptop to AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS)? This is usually required.

  • Ethernet connection through thunderbolt cable

    Hi
I've got a 27" Thunderbolt display where my mac mini is connected. In the back of the mini i've plugged the ethernet LAN cable in.
Once in a while I want to dock my Macbook Retina to the display and get 1) Bigger screen and 2) LAN connectivity
    My questions:
    1) If only connecting my macbook to the display via thunderbolt - can I get the ethernet connectivity which sits in the mac mini. Or do I have to connect with a separate Thunderbolt-LAN adaptor (i.e meaning two cables)
    2) Does a thunderbolt cable exist with magsafe 2 (i.e similar to the cable that is in the display)
    Kind regards
    Frank, Denmark

    1) If you want to dock your MBPr, it would be best to have the Display Ethernet connected;
    2) ALL Thunderbolt Displays shipping after the Retina model came out were supposed to come with a MagSafe>MagSafe 2 adapter. If yours didn't, you can buy one for $10 or just go to your local Apple Store or an AASP and see if they will give you one.

  • IPod Touch 3G won't connect to USB cable

When the power is on, and the cable is plugged in, nothing happens. I connected to a computer to try to restore it and my computer didn't find the ipod. The wall charger usb thing didn't work either. I've tried two different cables and neither of them worked. I found out that if I shut the power off while its still plugged in, it will receive a charge, although nothing is on the screen to indicate that, I found that it was fully charged when I powered back up a couple of hours later. There isn't an Apple store in my state and the closest one is 9 and a half hours away. I bought the ipod at a pawn shop so I don't have a warranty anyway.
Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Additional note: The day this happened, the music app sort of froze. Right after I selected a song and the song title, artist name, and album title area wasn't completely on screen. I couldn't tap the back button or the album button in the top right corner. The weird thing was that the play/pause and skip buttons still worked. I had to fully power off and restart to fix that.
Another additional note: The connecting of the cable is the only problem.

Try placing the iPod in Recovery mode and then restoring
Next try DFU mode and then restoring

  • E65 won't connect via USB Cable

    Hello to you all...
I just got my new Nokia E65 and I couldn't be happier with it. Fantastic phone.
However I can't connect it to my PC (Windows XP SP2) via the USB Cable...it just won't recognize it. I installed PC Suite with the latest cable drivers and nothing happens. When I connect the cable to the phone it asks if I want to use "data transfer" or "pc Suite" mode, but neither of them work.
I'm able to connect to PC Suite via infrared, and that works fine. But I want to update my firmware and software updater only works via usb cable.
Any ideas on what to to?

more info needed, suite version, cable type, what is visible in pc device manager when you connect phone, what is visible in phone screen when you connct cable, etc.

  • New MacBook Pro 15" unable to recognize Hard Drive connected by thunderbolt cable

We have three macs in the house and recently purchased a new MacBook Pro 15" with two thunderbolt connections.
I have a 4TB Seagate HD that has been partitioned into 4 1 TB drives all formatted for MAC OS.  Each Partition is being used for a separate time machine capsule and when I hooked up the new Mac I got that the disk was not recognized and has to be initialized.
Since the other two macs read it fine I'm not sure that this is a problem with the actual hard drive itself.
I rebooted the New Mac and installed all the updates, but am still having the problem.  It is seeing the drive, but only as 1 4TB partition that needs to be formatted.
Is this a problem with the new mac or is there a simple solution.
    Thanks

Sorry my english is not perfect.
I didn't say to turn off the fans. I say you have to increase the speed of yours fans to 3000 rpm, for you realize the intensity of noise emitted by my hard drive. I would like your opinions if my hard drive is normal or not ? I think not, because the noise is very hard, but I would like a confirmation.
    Thanks

  • I want to use my Macbook Air 2011 as an external disk for my iMac 2011. I connected the two with a Thunderbolt cable and when starting the MacBook Air I pressed "T" and it worked except with Office documents. Can anybody help?

I want to use my MacBook Air as an external disk to my iMac. I talked to Apple care and we solved it by connecting a Thunderbolt cable between the two computers. I then turn on the MacBook Air while pressing the "T" and it works. I can sit and work on my iMac and grab/change/save the files that are in my MacBook Air EXCEPT for the Microsoft Office files. I called Microsoft and they can't solve it. They say it might be a problem with the Thunderbolt cable. Has anybody have this problem?
Both computers are 2011 and they both have Office 2011.
    Thanks in advance,
    Alejandra

For Word it says "Word cannot open this document. The document might be in use, the document might not be a valid Word document, or the file name might contain invalid characters (for example, /)"
For Excel it says "the file could not be found. Check te spelling of the filename, and verify that the file location is correct. If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used files on the File menu, make sure hat the file has not been renamed, moved or deleted.
I tried this with many different documents, and I always get the same message.

  • Thunderbolt cable 2 metre length problems ...

FYI   I've been enduring Thunderbolt external drive random un-mounting on my 27" iMac, and Yosemite crashes since beta 1.  I've narrowed the problem to a too long Thunderbolt cable (2 metres) .... I connected the same cable to my Macbook Air 11" and the un-mounting happened there also.  I've since replaced the cable with a .5 metre cable, and all problems have not been encountered for over 24 hours.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    You have got two problems:
    1. You haven't got a 27-inch iMac or a Thunderbolt iMac, because you are running 10.5.8, and;
    2. Your iMac has got Mini DisplayPort, so it won't detect a Thunderbolt cable.
Your Mac is not compatible with Target Display mode. If you want to use your iMac as an external display for the MacBook, use ScreenRecycler, which will allow you to mirror your MacBook Pro's display to your iMac over the network

  • TS4080 Try to use iMac with Thunderbolt cable as a display and it goes black

For work I have a MacBook Pro 15" Late 2011. I connected a Thunderbolt cable to both the MacBook Pro and iMac. When I press Command F2 to use the iMac as my main screen, the iMac just goes dark. No screen at all. I can only get out of using Command F2.
What am I missing. How can I used my iMac as external display for my MacBook Pro.
    Thanks.

All firmware current on that late 2011 MacBook Pro? This EFI firmware update addresses Thunderbolt target display mode, and other issues.

  • MacBook pro 15" Retina - connecting to Thunderbolt display issue

    Hi
Is everyone else have trouble connecting the thunderbolt to the MacBook Pro with Retina? With my air it was plug and play (nomatter if the MBA were asleep or awake - it would just wake up when I uesed the wirless mouse or keyboard), but now I have to restart my Mac everytime I connect it to the thunderbolt display.
It simply will not "wake" when I connect the thunderbolt cable. I have to open the screen and the restart..
Also there is a lot of "flickering" . almost like it is "trying" to work.. but have to be reastartet everytime.

Mine is even worse...after connecting it the display flickers and turns black...the mainboard of the display was changed but the symptoms returned after some few hours of usage...

  • TS1367 Is there are a way to use my imac as a display for my macbook pro? I have a thunderbolt cable but it doesnt seem to do anything

Is there are a way to use my imac as a display for my macbook pro? I have a thunderbolt cable but it doesnt seem to do anything

    Hello eassic,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like Target Display Mode may be what you are looking for:
Target Display Mode lets you use a Mac as the external display for another “primary” Mac. In some cases, you can also play the sound from your primary Mac on the speakers of the external Mac. For example, a MacBook Pro could use a 27-inch iMac as the display and play its audio on the iMac as well.
OS X Mountain Lion: Use another Mac as a display
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302
Use an iMac with Thunderbolt as a display
If you have an iMac with Thunderbolt, any other Mac with Thunderbolt can use it as a display. The iMac will play both the video and audio from the other Mac.
    1. Connect the Thunderbolt cable to the Thunderbolt ports on each computer.
    2. Make sure both Mac computers are turned on and awake.
    3. Press Command (⌘)-F2 on the keyboard of the external display Mac.
    4. If you want the external display Mac to play audio as well as video from the primary Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Sound, and then click Output. Select the external display Mac from the list of devices.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • HT5299 Is there a way to extend a thunderbolt cable?

Is there a way to extend a thunderbolt cable? i.e.: 2 thunderbolt/displayport to hdmi adapters with an hdmi cable in between?

No, but long Thunderbolt cables may be available soon.
    <http://appleinsider.com/articles/13/01/08/cornings-thunderbolt-and-usb-optical-c ables-transmit-data-over-hundreds-of-feet>
3 meter cables are available now.

You don't need to extend the Thunderbolt display's cable.  You can connect to the computer using a long cable from the display's Thunderbolt port.
If you do need to connect two Thunderbolt cables, use a Thunderbolt disk drive with two Thunderbolt ports.

Do I absolutely need to connect the power supply together with the thunderbolt cable ?
I found that the screen won't wake up if only the thunderbolt connection is plugged. Is this normal ?

I just got my ATD and late 2011 MBP up and running. I've not tried running without the power adapter from the ATD plugged in, but I just tried and didn't have any problems with the display not waking. You may want to take your query to the ATD forum - https://discussions.apple.com/community/peripherals/thunderbolt_display - perhaps someone there has experienced a similar issue.
    Good luck,
