  • 1Z0-046 Study guide - recommendations?

I am trying to find good and reliable sources for study guides and practice Q & A for exam 1Z0-046 - "Oracle Database 10g: Managing Oracle on Linux Certified Expert".
Normally I use self-test software for this purpose but unfortunately they only seem to provide the more mainstream certifications and upgrades.
Do you guys have any recommendations on alternative suppliers of study guides etc ? A quick search on the internet reveals for example [removed by moderator - know braindump site] which at first glance seems alright.
Another one is [removed by moderator - known braindump site] which also seems like a good choice.
Any recommendations and/or previous experience would be appreciated.

I have to advise you to check www.certguard.com before you go to any website for certification prep, to check whether a site is legitimate or not.
Both of the websites you mentioned, testking and cert-insider, come up as braindump sites.
The implications are that, by using materials from there, you violate the agreement you make with Oracle when you take the test, and can have your certifications revoked.
I looked on Amazon, and saw that there's a book called Oracle Database 10g Linux Administration. That was the only resource I could find for the test, so probably you will want to delve into Oracle's online documentation to prepare.

Any clarifications pealse?IMHO The issue isn't so much whether it's oracle 10gR2 or 11gR2, the issue is that the exam is RHEL 4 with a some emphasis on 32-bit and workarrounds required because of that.
I think real world is now effectively linux 64 bit for serious stuff (unless possibly using VM's) ... so the 32 bit workarrounds are close to going to a museum ... having said that there will be many such 32 bit installations working still.
Some of the topics can be hard to locate information on.
If you can wait hopefully this book can soon be published ..... [http://www.rampant-books.com/book_0902_managing_oracle_on_linux_OCE_oracle_certified_expert.htm] ...
The author has posted on these forums and has said the manuscript is with the publsher.
Overall not an easy call ....

  • Oracle Application Performance Tuning

    Hello all,
Please forgive me if I am asking this in the wrong section.
I am a s/w engineer with 2 years of exp. I have been working as a performance tuning resource for Oracle EBS in my company. The work mostly involved SQL tuning and dealing with indexes etc. In this time I took up interest in DBA stuff and I completed my OCA in Oracle 10g. Now my comany is giving me an oppurtunity to move into an Application DBA team and I am totally confused about it.
Becoming an Apps DBA will mean that the effort I put into the certification in 10g will be of no use. There are other papers for Apps DBA certification. Should I stay put in performance tuning & wait for a Core DBA chance or shall I accept the Apps DBA oppurtunity.
Also, does my exp. in SQL performace tuning hold any value as such with out an exposure to DBA activities?
Kindly guide me in this regards as I am very confused at this juncture.
    Regards,
    Jithin

Hello bigdelboy , Thank you for your reply.
Yes, By oracle Apps DBA I meant Oracle EBS.
Clearing 1Z0-046 is an option. However, my doubt is will clearing both the exams Admin I and Admin II be of any help without having practical expericnce? The EBS DBA work involves support and patching, cloning, and new node setup etc.
Also, is my performance tuning experience going to help me in any way in the journey forward as a DBA/ EBS DBA?
Thank you for your valuable time.
    Regards,
Jithin SarathThe way I read it is this.
People notice you are capable of understanding and performance tuning SQL. And you must have some knowledge of Oracle EBS. And in fact you also have a DBA OCA.
So there is a 98% + chance you can be made into a good Oracle Apps DBA (and core DBA). If I was in their position I'd want you on my team too; this is the way we used to bring on DBA's in the old days before certification and it has a lot of merit still. Okay you can only do limited tasks at first ... but the number of taks you can do will increase dramatically over a number of months.
I would imagine the Oracle Apps DBA will be delighted to have someone on board who can performance tune SQL which sometimes can sometimes seem more like an art than a science. The patching etc can be taught in small doses. If they are a good team they wont try to give you everything at once, they'll get you to learn one procedure at a time.
And remember, if in doubt ask; and if you dont understand ask again. And be safe rather than sorry on actions that could be critial.
If your worried about liinux: Linux Recipes For Oracle Dbas (Apress) might be a good book to read but could be expensive in India
Likewise: (Oracle Applications Dba Field Guide) may suit and even (Rman Recipes For Oracle Database 11 G: A Problem-solution Approach) may have some value if you need to get up to speed quickly in those areas.
These are not perfect but they sometimes consolidate the information neatly; however only buy if you feel they are cheap enough. You may well buy them and feel disappointed (These all happen to be by Apress who seem to have produced a number of good books ... they've also published some rubbish as well)
And go over the 2-day dba examples as well and linux install examples n OTN as well ... they are free compared to the books I mentioned.

  • Performance Tuning Certification for Application Developer

    Hi,
Can you please advise if there is any Oracle Performance Tuning certification for an Application Developer and Oracle 9i to 10G migration certification? If yes, can you please let me know its Oracle examination number?
I have already passed 1Z0-007 and 1Z0-147 in Oct 2008.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sandeep Kumar

... if there is any Oracle Performance Tuning certification for an Application Developer ...There is no performance tuning related certification for application developers. There is one for the DBA track.
Also -- to answer your question in the other thread:
So to clear this certification do I need to re-appear all the 3 exams as they were given in 2008 or just 1Z0-146 is enough.Having passed 1Z0-007 and 1Z0-147, if you pass 1Z0-046, you will gain the certification: Oracle Advanced PL/SQL Developer Certified Professional

sSee: [http://www.oracle.com/education/certification] and drill down to these from Exams - list of exams. That gives recommended training and pre-requisites.
Methinks 1z0-044 has never been begatted.
For 1z0-046 maybe await [http://www.rampant-books.com/book_0902_managing_oracle_on_linux_OCE_oracle_certified_expert.htm] ... i've not seen it but seem reasonable.
Otherwise you will need to attend the relevant oracle course source information from Oracle Online resources plus possibly 2 or 3 books. 1z0-046 is a bit too 32bit orientated for current OEL practice though; and its generally easier to go 64 bit and slam the ram nowadays.

  • 9i OCA to 11g OCA

    Hi,
Is it possible to upgrade from 9i OCA to 11g OCA.
Obtained the 9i OCA by completing 1Z0_007 & 1Z0_047 in early 2008. so it is basically a prometic ID, I just requested to merge it with an Oracle Testing ID.
I see that 11g OCA needs the same set of exams to be taken. so is any upgrade exams to be taken to acquire 11g OCA or will it be possible for me to go for 1Z0_146 to acquire 11g OCP directly.
Sorry it the question is so lame but I'm really confused.

    * Advanced Professional Certification Path – Option 1 : Has the exam code after the exam name ... everything else is the other way round (Trivial bu basic).
    * The associate certification path for Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate has 'Oracle Forms Developer Certified Professional' as next steps but omits 'Oracle Advanced PL/SQL Developer Certified Professional' as a next step.
    * Oracle Forms Developer Certified Professional omits the 1z0-151 option and only has 1z0-141.
    * As written 'Advanced Professional Certification Path – Option 2' is redundant as it is already covered by 'Advanced Professional Certification Path – Option 1'
    * However my unstanding is that for holders of the retired exam 1z0-101 ( in place of 1z0-147/1z0-144) it is possible to achieve PL/SQL OCP without PL/SQL OCA first ... and in the context only 'option 2' makes sense. However IMHO without considering retired exams 'option 2' is more confusing than helpful. Obviously 1z0-001 options are possible, but omitted as confusing).
( I have outstanding a task to exam carefully another of these but it is not one in my zone so much so i'd need to find time ...... and i am more of asr33 man than a gui man).

  • SCM Certification Logo

    Hi,
I have completed all the three exams in Oracle 11i SCM path recently. I know that it will take 6-8 weeks to get my success kit. What my question is " Before i receive the kit can i use OCP logo on my resume and forward that to the companies"?Please advise.
    Thank You,
    Ashok

I did as you suggested - I sent the following email to [email protected]:
    Greetings -
I completed and passed both 1z0-040 and 1z0-046 on 2/12/08. My prometric ID is xxxxxxxxx and the test registration numbers are:XXXXXX#### and XXXXXX###X respectively. I am hoping you can email me username/password for accessing the 10g OCP and 'Linux expert' logo's, as I am currently in the job market now, and hope to be gainfully employeed by the time the welcome kit arrives.
    Thanks
    And here is their response:
    Dear D-,
You should wait until Prometric sends your OCP Success kits which will include OCP Members site Login name & Password to download the OCP Logo.
You should wait for 6-8 weeks after the completion of all certification requirements have been met to receive your success kits. If you do not receive your certificate within 6-8 weeks, visit the Prometric web site at https://www.register.prometric.com/Login.asp to update your demographic information. Select the "Update Personal Information" link in the left navigation bar and follow the steps to log into your profile.
After updating your address at Prometric web site, you can request an order for reshipment by sending an email to [email protected]. Kindly request for shipment only after updating your address at Prometric web site.
We would request you to update your address in the database. The certificate would be mailed to the address mentioned in the database. If Prometric and Oracle do not have your current mailing and email address, you may not receive your certification certificate in a timely manner.
Visit the Prometric web site at https://www.register.prometric.com/Login.asp to update your demographic information. Select the "Update Personal Information" link in the left navigation bar and follow the steps to log into your profile.
Updating your profile on http://ibt.prometric.com/oracle will NOT update your demographic information. Candidates must enter their current information on https://www.register.prometric.com/Login.asp for their contact information to be updated.
    Regards,
    OCP Team
I am not sure those who monitor that email address are enabled to do any more than cut-n-paste.
So, just a curious question. Your userid (user561312) indicates you registered 2/27/07, yet you sign all posts as 'Certification Forum Moderator'
This indicates to me, this is a self-appointed title...

  • Oracle Certification - Success Kit information.

when you pass a oracle exam do you get a certification for each exam you pass? and does oracle provide a wallet card certification? that's always easier and better to carry around than the paper sized certification.

My answer on this is not definitive, but I suspect (do not sue me if I am wrong):
    - OCA wil not get a wallet card card.
    - I suspect OCE and OCP will.
You can go to the the source given by Aman, but I believe most (if not all) OCE's require one exam, however most (but not all), either require a prior certiifaction first( ie more exams), or to have attended to appropriate hands on course.
The exception is 1z0-047 SQL Certified expert which is one exam to which a pass should generate a certificate (and hopefully a wallet card - but I cant confirm this).
From my point of view not all OCE exams are equally diffiicult. In general my view of their difficulty, possibly flawed, is the level of certification already held that will generate certificate without attending an on-line course.
viz: My view of ascendening order of difficulty (I have not checked exact titles):
1z0-047: SQL Certified Expert (No hands on or prior certification prerequisite)
1z0-046: Managing oracle 10g on linux (Prerequisite: dba admin OCA or associated hands on)
1z0-048: RAC Certified expert (Prerequisite: dba admin OCP or associated hands on)
1z0-054: 11g Database Performance Tuning (Prerequisite: dba admin OCP or associated hands on)

In SE91 for both QA and PROD system, I checked for the message class 046 but I didn't see any.
Pls guide me to what I am missing. Smartform is in both the systems.

    Hi,
Actually the error happened be due to the difference in object level between QA and PROD.
When we did SU53 in PROD system at the time of the error, a partcular object was missing in PROD.
    It is resolved now.
    Thanks.

  • Errors in 1z0-051 and 1z0-061 Official Oracle exam guides

What can we do about errors in the official Oracle exam guides.
I am doing the 1z0-061 (Oracle Database 12c: SQL Fundamentals).
The 051 and 061 exams are exactly the same.
051 is written by John Watson and Roopesh Ramklass and the 061 is written by Ramklass, but the thing is, both books have the same content word for word.
I found these errors in the books:
(1.) In chapter 08 (Using subqueries to solve problems) in both books it says "A subquery can be used to select rows for insertion but not in a VALUES clause of an INSERT statement".
But this is wrong. You CAN use a subquery in a VALUES clause: This will work ->
    INSERT INTO values_test (f1) VALUES ((SELECT SYSDATE FROM DUAL));
However you have to have the 2 brackets in red.
    (2.)
Chapter 2: Self test question 9
The following character literal expression is selected from the DUAL table: SELECT 'Coda""s favorite fetch toy is his orange ring' FROM DUAL; (Choose the result that is returned.)
    A.  An error would be returned due to the presence of two adjacent quotes
    B.  Coda's favorite fetch toy is his orange ring
    C.  Coda""s favorite fetch toy is his orange ring
    D.  Coda""s favorite fetch toy is his orange ring'
The books says the correct answer is B. But this is wrong.
Correct answer is C, since the "" are 2 double quotes and they will appear as it is.
Even if "", is actually 4 single quotes the output then will be Coda''s favorite fetch toy is his orange ring
    which has 2 single quotes.
I wrote to the author  (emai [email protected]) but got no reply.
How can we let Oracle certification know that there are errors in these books. This can affect the exam and can mean the difference between passing and failing.

    >The book cover says "Oracle Press", meaning Official Oracle.
No -- the name does not mean that.  'Oracle Press' is a division of the McGraw-Hill publishing company that specializes in writing books for the Oracle suite of products.  Oracle has close ties with the publisher and often supplies information to the authors that is not publicly available.  However, Oracle is not responsible for the content of the books.
    >If not, then what ARE the Official Oracle guides?
The only thing that you could call an 'Official' Oracle guide would be student guides developed by Oracle University for one of their courses.  This content is supplied to attendees of the courses. The material is copyrighted and should not be available on the Web.

  • Can i use "Oracle Database 12c: Performance Management and Tuning " training for getting certification on "Oracle Database 11g: Performance Tuning 1Z0-054"

i have taken "Oracle Database 12c: Performance Management and Tuning new" training from oracle university. Now i would like to get certified on "Oracle Database 11g: Performance Tuning 1Z0-054" exam. Is it possible ?

I essentially endorse and refer you to Matthews' and John's post above.
I would differ with slightly with Matthew because my guess is you would often be able to use like for like 12c training for an 11g certification ( I believe there are precedents).  BEFORE ANYONE ASKS THE OTHER WAY DOESN'T HAPPEN.
.... but totally concur with Matthew you would ill advised to procede on that basis without one of:
    - This being advertised as possible on the website : e.g. https://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=654&get_params=p_id:169 ... option 2 show courses.
    - Confirmation from Brandye
    - Confirmation from an Oracle Certification Support Web Ticket ( http://education.oracle.com/pls/eval-eddap-dcd/OU_SUPPORT_OCP.home?p_source=OCP )
... The more common (and in my opinion usually better) way would be get your 11g DBA OCP ( or higher first) and then take the 1z0-054.  I am almost certain they will accept your 12c course for the 11g DBA OCP.
If you are choosing the route of not being a 11g (or 12c ) DBA OCP first but are on option 2 and relying on the course for certification then the issue is more in the balance and you are even more strongly advised to get confirmation before proceding (remember if the rules need to be changed for you only then any profit out of the exam is lost).
In general my understanding is Oracle would prefer to encourage people to train on the latest version of product that is available for training  and will prefer to avoid restrictions which would cause you to train at a lower version.  ( This is simply my guess at Oracle University Policy ... personal opinion only).
Having said all I have said I'd encourage you to go with the advice of the earlier two posts.
