1Z0-047 vs 1Z0-051

Hi every one,
i have IT background but I am a beginner in Oracle Database, and intend to go for OCP DBA,
which one of the exam is better or worth to go for , as my target is DBA,
i have seen exam topics and 1z0-047 covers almost all the topics of 1z0-051, would it be beneficial for me doing 1z0-47 keeping in my mind my role as DBA in practical world?
you response would highly appreciated,
Regards,

1Z0-047 is a much harder test and for that reason, the more valued to have. It 'covers' all of the topics from 1Z0-051 largely in that questions from any of those areas is fair game, but it concentrates more on those topics that are unique to it. I've written study guides for both tests. My 1Z0-047 guide devotes a bit under 40% of the book to reviewing the topics from 1Z0-051 and the rest on the new material for 047. I'd say that the test itself was weighted more like 25% or less to the 051 topics to 75%-plus to the 047 ones. That's very much a ballpark estimate, though.
Both tests have a very high percentage of questions that involve SQL as either part of the question or part of the answer. In the 051 test, the SQL is more straightforward, and 'bad' SQL generally has reasonably obvious flaws. In 047, the difference between 'right' and 'wrong' answers is often much more subtle. the 047 questions are also much trickier in that they will present perfectly functional SQL that 'looks' flawed because it has been presented in a weird fashion. Which test is better for you is something I can't answer. 047 will automatically get you a certification -- namely the SQL Expert even before you get your OCP. There is no similar 'interim' certification for 051.
As a beginner in Oracle, I'd have to suggest that you take the 1Z0-051 exam. It's a better foundation in the essentials. The 1Z0-047 exam was written specifically to try to pass only people with several years of experience in Oracle SQL. While I won't argue that it's not possible to study sufficiently to pass the 047 exam without that experience, I will say that it's going to be consderably harder to do.
Both of my guides are available in Kindle or paperback. If you have a Kindle and are an Amazon Prime member, you can borrow them for free.

  • Books for 1Z0-047 and 1Z0-144

    Hello all,
I'm planning to study for "Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate" certification. I was planning to prepare for 1Z0-047 and 1Z0-144 as both of those exams are validated against Oracle Database 11g.
I was wondering if any of guys here can help me out with the couple of questions that I have.
    1. Which one would you recommend among the two of the below exams?
    1Z0-047 (Oracle Database SQL Expert)
    or
    1Z0-051 (Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I)
    2. What books should I refer for 1Z0-047 and 1Z0-144? I read a lot of threads about this topic. But, I haven't found a proper answer yet, which is why I'm posting this question again.
For 1Z0-047, I saw people recommending the following:
OCA Oracle Database SQL Expert Exam Guide: Exam 1Z0-047 (Osborne Oracle Press Series) by Steve O'Hearn
OCA Oracle Database 11g SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide: Exam 1Z0-051 (Osborne ORACLE Press Series) by John Watson and Roopesh Ramklass
For 1Z0-144, I saw people recommending the following:
Oracle PL/SQL Programming: Covers Versions Through Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (Animal Guide) by Steven Feuerstein and Bill Pribyl
OCP Developer PL/SQL Program Units Exam Guide by Steve O'Hearn
I kindly request you guys to help me out as I don't have much idea about these books. It would be really great if someone who has passed the exams or read these books throw some light on these.
    Thanks in advance.

Ucertify does have a 1z0-144 practice test ... quality may or may not be poor. Ucertify currently remains certifcation safe AFAIK.

( I feel like I am advertising Ucertify ... which I dont want to be. I feel if I dont do this people will end up with braindump providers). Some may even find a poor quality practice test more harm than good, time may have been better sent learning from the online manuals and practicing what is there.

  • OCA - Choice between  1Z0-144,1Z0- 047 and 1Z0- 051

    Hello everyone,
I am a developer working on Java EE and our DB is Oracle 10g.
I intend to take an exam that prepares me for :
    1. Writing DDL,DML and usage of functions
    2. Creating cursors,procedures,triggers,indexes etc.
    3. Focus on writing efficient queries - sub-queries,joins,manipulating BLOBs etc.
    4. Creating & using Java-like 'collections' in the DB
Given the above requirements, I decided to go for OCA certification. I realized the following path from Oracle's site :
    _1Z0-047_ Oracle
    Database SQL Expert
    OR
    _1Z0-051_ Oracle Database
    11g: SQL Fundamentals
    I
    AND
    Program with PL/SQL
    _1Z0-147_
    OR
    Oracle Database 11g:
    Program with PL/SQL
    _1Z0-144_
Now,I am quite unsure as to which exam I must target first.
Given my requirements, please suggest the best approach( I know the basics of PL/SQL )
    Thanks !

Thanks for the replies, guys !
Just to prevent the fragmentation of the information, I am posting my further question in this thread itself.
My objective now is to consolidate the study material for 1Z0-051.
After scanning the previous threads, I got the following suggestions :
OCA Oracle Database 11g SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide: Exam 1Z0-051 (Osborne ORACLE Press Series) by John Watson and Roopesh Ramklass
SQL Developer guide from the oracle documentation at http://tahiti.oracle.com
OCA: Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Associate Study Guide: (Exams1Z0-051 and 1Z0-052) ISBN-13: 978-0470395127 sybex.
I prefer to read a certification oriented book to get started and the other stuff - forums, documentation, references for practice.
Hence, please suggest the appropriate study material.
    Thanks !

  • Could I take 1Z0-051 and 1Z0-047 together?

Hi, I am currently planning to take a Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate. At first, I plan to take the path of 1Z0-047 + 1Z0-144 which leads to this certification, because the 1Z0-047 itself is also leading to another cert (Oracle SQL Expert cert). So if I take this path, I would end up with two certifications (Oracle SQL Expert cert and PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate)
However, people keep on telling me that 1Z0-047 is very difficult, saying that 1Z0-051 is much easier if I want to guarantee a PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate.
So, is it possible that I take all three exams (1Z0-051, 1Z0-047, 1Z0-144)? I am thinking that taking 1Z0-051 as a kind of "practice" because it is an online exam and the exam scope looks easy to me. Also I have some budgets allocated to me so I don't mind spend a little bit extra money to Oracle exams.
I'm just wondering whether two of them (051, 047) are mutually exclusive in the exam policy or something.

So, is it possible that I take all three exams (1Z0-051, 1Z0-047, 1Z0-144)?Yes, you may take both 1Z0-051 and 1Z0-047. In fact, I would highly recommend taking 1Z0-051 before taking 1Z0-047. You have heard correctly, 047 is a much more difficult exam and requires a considerably higher level of SQL experience/knowledge. If you look at the study topics for both tests, you'll see that 1Z0-047 includes essentially all of the topics from 1Z0-051, and has another thirty-some topics in addition. Studying for 1Z0-051 is in itself preparation for taking the expert test. I discuss the two exams in an article here:
    http://www.gocertify.com/articles/oracle-sql-certification-1z0-051-or-1z0-047.html

  • May i go for sql expert(1Z0-047) exam or 11g sql fundamentals 1(1Z0-051)

    Hi all,
Please suggest me, may i go for sql expert(1Z0-047) Test or 11g sql fundamentals 1(1Z0-051) Test with
    oracle Administration 1(1Z0-042) Test.
Which will be the best option.
    Thanks & Regards

You may use either exam along with the Oracle Administration 1 (1Z0-042) exam if your goal is to get a 10g DBA OCA credential.
The SQL Expert exam is quite a bit more challenging than the SQL Fundamentals exam. On the other hand, the SQL Expert exam gives you a separate SQL Certified Expert credential. If you can pass it, you should take the SQL Expert exam.

  • OCA: 1Z0-047 Oracle DB SQL Export vs. 1Z0-051 11g: SQL Fundamentals I

    Hi All
Passed my 1Z0-042 today (now that's a monkey off my back, so off to celebrate with something red, fermented & >12%ABV!), and am now looking at which other exam to take to complete the OCA.
Now for me, this looks like a no-brainer....
1Z0-047 has a much wider topic list (http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_exam_id=1Z0_047) than that of 1Z0-051 (http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_exam_id=1Z0_051), and has a pass mark of 66% against 60% for the 11g, and is over 40GBP cheaper (I assume because 1Z0-051 is non-proctered).
Am I missing something really obvious??
    Hic!
    bt

    >
    >
    >
Also, if I buy the non-proctered exam today (to head off any further nasty future prices rises...grrr...), how long is it valid for i.e. how long do I have before I need to take it online?
I thnk its unlikely (but I could be wrong) the prices will change much again (particularly upwards) for a bit except/unless currency exchange variations. So I wouldn't rush to book. I think online you can book immediately, and for proctored you should normally have slots a few days in advance at most 5 day centres apart from near end of terms and quarters and possibly on fridays or at the end of special offers.
Although the 1z0-051 is 'non-proctored' I believe it can also be taken proctored for the same price. Doing it online has risks of distraction and any connection issues may be your problem. If I did it online I am sure there would be a someone wishing explore the local electricity substation or play with a JCB when I was attempting to take my exam.

  • Need help for 1Z0-047

    Hi,
I want to take my first exam as 1Z0-047.
I have just completed my b-tech and have some basic knowledge about sql.
    I have "OCA Oracle Database

    Exam Guide
    (Exam 1Z0-047)"
is this book is sufficent to crack this?
    if not please suggest something.
    Thanks,

    Thanks,
PraveenTo make a steam locomotive go one needs fire, water and steam. You can struggle by for a bit with a shortage of one of these.
And I think a better way to think about your question is:
IMHO To pass 1z0-047 you need knowledge practice and experience.
    - And you can something squeeze through if one of these is a little weaker and the others very strong.
From the book you can gain knowledge (as indeed can the oracle documentation). IMHO If you gain it all, the knowledge from the book is sufficient for passing the exam.
You can also use the book to get a little test practice. (And perhaps a little practice of the SQL itself).
The book however doesn't give experience.
    - Having said all this I feel starting from zero trying to pass 1z0-047 is likely to result in failure.
Better in my opinion is study for 1z0-051 first. It's a lot gentler on the brain. And take that. It's a lot cheaper if you fail it and need to retake. And the exam is easier (though you might have to learn more detail in places, which perhaps isn't a bad. thing).
........... But if after studying for 1z0-051 you elect to skip it and go for 1z0-047 direct that is your choice. 1z0-051 is a subset of 1z0-047 HOWEVER there will be more detail on some 1z0-051 topics on the 1z0-051 exam.

  • Where can I buy an authentic prartice test material for 1z0-047?

    Hello friends,
I am planning to take the 1Z0-047 (Oracle Database SQL Expert) test by next month. I would like to buy the practice test kit that would be available in India to practice for the exam.
I have searched on the internet for the test kits, and am confused about their authenticity.
    Please help.
    Thanks in Advance.

The officially recognised Kaplan IT practice tests are here on the oracle certification website
    ( http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=208 )
Trascender is essentially a superset of SelftestSoftware. Beware of fake immitations.
About the only other independent supplier is Ucertify, pretty well everthing else google provides will be braindump. Transcender/Selftestsoftware standard will typically be higher than Ucertify IMHO.
Steve O'Hearns book also has practice exams on the cdrom.
    - I always caution against people studying for 1z0-047 without being above 1z0-051 standard first. 1z0-047 is really there for experienced SQL people.

Online exams are non-proctored, which means that you can take them at your convenience any time, anywhere. Pre-registration is not required. You register when you are ready to take the exam.
Online exams are closed-book exams --- books, course materials and notes are not allowed. You should prepare for them fully and rely on your own mastery of the material.
Candidates who take the online exams are subject to the Oracle Fraudulent Activity policy and must agree to the Oracle Candidate Agreement (presented at the beginning of the exam). You should never have someone take the exam for you. You should never test under a name other than your own, and/or test using more than one name or Prometric Testing ID.

  • I Just Did the Exam 1Z0-047 - What's Next?

I just passed my first (Internationally Recognized) Oracle exam 1Z0-047. Hmmm, i got %83. I think its good since its my first exam, i felt i could make it better up to %90+. The paper shows 9 bullet points of topics that i may show review. The topics they mentioned i know it really well. Shall i take the exam again? I don't think its a big deal probably %83 is good. Anyway, the exam center gave me a printed paper of my total score. They said Oracle will send another Certification to my address. Which Certification is official? The one i have been given by the exam center is a printed cert (black and point). Which one should i show to the employers?
I'm happy as well as sad because i knew the mistakes i made are silly (i wish to rid of the bullet points argghhhh) + i did the exam after having at least 3 months college hands on experience.

Although the suggested topics are a guide dont dwell on them too much; if you feel you know them ell enough thats fine; move on. Because of the effects of small samples sizes on individual topics these can easily become skewed.

Keep both. 1z0-047 is an exam with fulfills a certification requirement so you get a success pack including a certificate; and thats even more important. Thats the best one to show to your employer; but it may be 8 / 10 weeks beforeyou received it. (NB: Oracle does not send a copy of your exam report - they will only send certificates - however there might be changes when they move to Prometric).

Whats next is up to you. The UK government is pleased to recommend as follows :-) : [http://whatsnext.direct.gov.uk]. If it oracle education or certifications read the forum announcements and visit [http://www.oracle.com/education] and [http://www.oracle.com/education/certification]; otherwise browse OTN at [http://otn.oracle.com]. Or you may wish to spend your time doing something completely different ... your choice.

  • Prerequisites for 1Z0-047 (Certified SQL Expert)?

I know a lot of the Oracle certification paths require that you take Oracle-sponsored training. the 1Z0-047 one however lists "recommended" training. I can't find anywhere that says whether the training is explicitly required, or whether it's acceptable to have learned the material other ways (private training, on-the-job learning). I don't want to waste money taking (and presumably passing) an exam when that won't be sufficient to earn the certification.

No I can't in deed! Was on hurry to write something to that also ;-)
But if you get 0% correct on the free sample questions given from oracle, then the chances are quite low...
As it is needed to be ready on all the topics in order to get a chance to pass the exam, it was more an advice to try the free sample questions given from oracle.
Personaly I always get through all the topics (with the documentation, training courses and/or books), making excercices on a test installation and get official selftest (if they are existing for this exam.
    Cheers,

  • Surprised that 1Z0-047 (SQL Expert) does not include Analytic Functions

Apparently, from a reading of the 1Z0-047 outline,  Analytic Functions are not "in scope" for the Exam.
    Comments, anyone ?
    Hemant K Chitale

    Comments, anyone ?
There are definitely some gaps in the SQL coverage on that exam. I could see the exam being redone (and improved) for 12C much as 1Z0-144 was rewritten for 11G as a much improved version of 1Z0-147.  I'd like to see them remove the individual listing of topics pulled from SQL Fundamentals.  They should be replaced with either a much-compressed list or a single note that knowledge of SQL fundamentals is assumed.  This might help with the level of confusion newbies have over which test they should take.
Adding all of the functions you mention would not only make the test more comprehensive but also allow the tone of the exam to be altered.  Right now I consider it to be filled with questions intended to misdirect the test candidate.  The questions are 'tricky' rather than 'difficult'. This is largely because SQL is inherently easy to read so the only way to make it hard *is* to write deliberately bad SQL. Adding more advanced topics would allow for more questions that don't have to be made artificially more difficult.

Did anyone buy the new OCA Oracle Database SQL Expert Exam Guide: Exam 1Z0-047 ?

Is it good in preparing for the exam.Probably, but bear in mind I haven't taken it. But it will cut my prep. time for this exam by an estimated 75%. Bear in mind my SQL is pretty reasonable but I've non really had the chance to focus on analytics functions and some other recently introduced topics ... i tend to drop to PL/SQL when the going gets tough ... which is sometimes a winning strategy but sometimes its the wring thing to do.
Is it better than Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals or Oracle Database 11g SQL in helping you to pass the 1Z0-047 ExamIf you are taliking about books the answer is almost certainly yes (if you are talking about training courses the answer is less clearcut). However my opinion is that when using a exam focused book you should always be prepared to access Original Oracle Documentation and possilbly other SQL books; and if your not familiar with the subject to get some additional non-exam focused training as well.
