1Z0-053

Hi all,
currently i am preparing for the 1Z0-053 exam that takes place this week.
But my Study Guide OCP, Freeman et. al., Sybex, the Oracle Course Administrator II Rel. 2 and the recommended Transcender Self-Test questions seem to base on 11.1. and not on 11.2.
Examples:
1. FLASHBACK DATABASE
Answer: database has to be in MOUNT EXCLUSIVE mode.
I think, database has to be in MOUNT mode.
2. Globalization topic
not listed in current Oracle 1Z0-053 exam topics
but covered in the study guide, Oracle course Administrator II Rel. 2 and Transcender Self-Test
Has anybody recently passed the 1Z0-053 exam and used the Transcender Self-Test for preparation? Was it helpful or were important topics or version specific questions missing?
Is Globalization currently an exam topic or not?
Do you have any further suggestions concerning preparation of 1Z0-053 (regarding version 11.2)?
Thanks in advance.
Best Regards

Transcender self test will be useful, and probably a good indicator.
I am not saying this from direct experience.
Is Globalization currently an exam topic or not?
If it isn't on the current exam topics then it almost certainly isn'. See above.
Do you have any further suggestions concerning preparation of 1Z0-053 (regarding version 11.2)?
The '11.2' side of it is probably minimal. The exam question set will have been prepared on 11.1 and verified at some point to see questions and answers remain valid for 11.2, and (the small number if ) any having a problem would be rejected/modified. A small number of new questions would only be checked against 11.2.
Thanks in advance.
This is my quick opinion. I have little time to answer.

  • 1z0-053 - Doubtful question/answer in Transcender preparation kit

    Hello,
I purchased the exam preparation  kit and I'm confused about a correct answer.
    http://www.transcender.com/practice-exam/oracle/1z0-053.kap
It's in regard to the Flashback Database procedure, it states that we must use STARTUP MOUNT EXCLUSIVE rather thant STARTUP MOUNT.
Going into 11gR2 documentation, it's never stated to do STARTUP MOUNT EXCLUSIVE, but simply STARTUP MOUNT.
Link: Performing Flashback and Database Point-in-Time Recovery
Here is the  screenshot of the exam question and correct answer.
I read at some places that the STARTUP MOUNT EXCLUSIVE is deprecated and the simple STARTUP MOUNT is the way to go unless explicitly stated.
Is my answer is OK? Is the suggested answer OK?
If both valid and I see this kind of dualities in the official exam, should I prefer the simple STARTUP MOUNT rather than the EXCLUSIVE way?
    Thanks
    Bruno

The documentation beats third-party materials every time -- even Kaplan materials, which are generally quite good.
You are extremely unlikely to find an ambivalent question like this in an exam that has been around as long as 1Z0-053.  In beta exams or tests that have recently come out of beta perhaps.  Ones that have been in place for years should have resolved any such problems.

  • Differences between 1Z0-042, 1Z0-043 1Z0-052 and 1Z0-053 and 11g OCP

    Hi All
    I have a small dilemma
For Christmas I was given a copy of OCA/OCP Oracle Database 11g All-in-One Exam Guide with CD-ROM: Exams 1Z0-051, 1Z0-052, 1Z0-053 (Osborne Oracle Press Series) [http://www.amazon.co.uk/Oracle-Database-All-Guide-CD-ROM/dp/0071629181/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262090730&sr=1-5|http://www.amazon.co.uk/Oracle-Database-All-Guide-CD-ROM/dp/0071629181/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262090730&sr=1-5]
As you will see in the book title it covers 1Z0-051, 1Z0-052 and 1Z0-053
About a year ago I attended the following courses
    TT - Oracle D/B 10g Program PL/SQL-QA-IQ
    TT - Oracle PL/SQL - GK
TT - Oracle 10g Intro to SQL
I have been meaning to get round to taking my exams and OCA qualification is no problem as I can take 1Z0-051 and 1Z0-052 using the above book and the knowledge I gained on the course (even though the course was 10g).
But my question surrounds 11g OCP and how it requires instructor led training - now I have done my 10g course but I guess this wont count as an instructor led course for 11g OCP.
If not then im going to need to take the route of 1Z0-042, 1Z0-043 to get OCP and 1Z0-050 to upgrade to 11g
So I would ask how safe I would be learning the above mentioned book and taking the 1Z0-042, 1Z0-043 exams. I understand there is no accurate answer as it is subjective but if 1Z0-052 and 1Z0-053 (11g) knowledge covers 1Z0-042 and 1Z0-043 (10g) knowledge then there should be no problem, right?
I really dont want to have to take the book back or purchase another.
    Thanks in advance
    Rob

Think of it as an opporunity
For Christmas I was given .... (Take me to your santa ...)
    .... (snipped)
    Thanks in advance
RobYour'e thinking sensibly about this. Well done. And the hands on course needs to be considered carefully and I often say this can be deciding factor in planning.
IMHO there is at least 80% commonality between the topics for 1z0-042 AND 1Z0-052 .... and probably similar for 1z0-043 and 1z0-053 whoug I've never directly checked this and there may be a greater divergence there.
Be aware some topics in 1z0-050 will not be covered in the books you have as far as I am aware.
One option you have not considered is taking exams in this order ..... this will give you 10g OCP and 11g OCP. This is wha I did .... but it mainly occured that for me way as the 1z0-053 was fairly delayed into production and I wanted the certificates I could have as soon as possilble .... ie 10gDBAOCP and 11gDBAOCA. I actually did the 1z1-053 beta for my 11g DBA OCP ... cheaper than 1z0-050 as I already had 11g DBA OCA.
    1z0-051 1z0-042 1z0-052 1z0-043 1z0-053.
I know you dont want to buy another book, but the 10g ones from Sybex (and associated CDROM's) give a slightly different viewpoint (though they are for 10gR1 and are not updated for 10gR2 topics). IMHO the sybex books can ometimes go a little over the top in some areas. But all these books can contain some errors ... however they do provide an extra set of practice questions. However it is an option for you.
Its worth registering your 10g course as a hands on course as soon as reasonably possible to ensure there are no issues with it (I assume you have attended the course from Oracle University).
Anyway these are my thoughts. But you know your own circumstances and are responsible for your own decisions. Good Luck.

  • 1z0-053  11G Admin 2 Exam

Wondered if someone could help, I have a few questions about the OCP exam, 1z0-053 11G Admin 2.
I am using the Oracle Press book by Bob Bryla to study for this exam, but the objectives in the book do not match up to the objectives on the Oracle website. For example, in the book Objective 15.2 is named as Working with Database and NLS character sets. But there is no mention of this objective on Oracle's website.
Also, I am thinking of buying the transcender practice tests. Does anyone have any experience of these? Are they worth the money?
Any other tips about taking the exam would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    ok thanks for this.
Does anyone have any transcender experience?
Also, sorry for the vague question but compared to 1z0-052 how much more difficult would you say it was. I passed 1z0-052 fairly comfortably, and I work in app support with apart half my time spent purely on dba work.

  • 1Z0-053 Course ?

I have passed the 1Z0-053 exam, but I have no course for OCP certification
If I take the course Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Performance Tuning,
    Can I take the OCP?
Then if I pass the 1Z0-054, I can use the same course for Tunning certification ?
    Sry for my english.
    Regards in advance.
    Manuel

The course that you mention is on the list of approved courses that count toward the training requirement for 11g DBA OCP (http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=244#5).
Once you have obtained the 11g DBA OCP certification, you can obtain the Performance Tuning certification by passing the 054 exam - additional training is not required.

  • 1z0-053 can I?

Hi, I have passed the OCA Certificate already. Can I take a 1z0-053 exam without getting training?

You can certainly take the the exam.
    BUT.
You will not get 11g DBA OCP certification until your pre-requisites are met ..
    - That means you must have an 11g DBA OCA (not just any random OCA)
    - And you must have taken authorised training, submitted it for verification and got it verified first!

    Hi guys,
I am preparing the exams 052 & 053 now. I heard that these two exams are updated to 11gR2. So I want to check this information here. If it is updated to R2, where can I get new materials; if not, when will it be updated?

Oracle Press - OCA Oracle Database 11g Administration II Exam Guide 1Z0-053
McGraw.Hill.Oracle.Database.11g.DBA.Handbook.Dec.2007In essence these should be perfectly acceptable for the exam topics.
When the exam is validated against 11gR2 it is essentaily a check that the exam answers have not changed by any changes with 11gR2.
However one should always check the exam topics covered by these books have not changed by checking agsinst the topics on the exam web page ... remember these books are often prepared when the exam is in beta and it is unlikely there is an update with the production release.
I believe the mid-life update of the 1z0-042/3 exams for 10gR2 from 10gR1 were slightly more eextensive, however agin the important thing was to check out the exam topic changes. In essence the changes were more to track changes in Oracle Training courses that directly to do with changes in nthe Oracle Versions.
It is of course however useful to persue over the 'new and chaged features' of the 11gR2 release, it is a useful exercise for you to locate these yourself anyway.

  • Does 1Z0-001 fit the requirement of 11g DB OCP requirement (1Z0-051)?

    Dear Sir:
Hi, I would like to ask 3 questions about the certification requirement of 11g DB OCP.
Please advice me what do I have to do to prepare the OCP exam, thanks a lot in advance.
    Q1:
Does 1Z0-001 fit the requirement of 11g DB OCP requirement (pass 1Z0-001 = pass 1Z0-051)?
    AFAIK, 11g DB OCP requires passing 3 exams: 1Z0-051 (SQL), 1Z0-052 (AW1), 1Z0-053 (AW2) and finishing a hand-on course at least.
I have passed the 1Z0-001 (Introduction to SQL ans PL/SQL) many years ago.
After searching the discussion in the community, I've found 2 relative:
https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2526631  It said :"1Z0-001 will satisfy the SQL requirement."
https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2467872 It said : "I can confirm that the 001 exam will fulfill the SQL exam requirement if it was passed before it retired."
I was confused on that. Please help me to clear it.
Do I have to prepare the exam 1Z0-051 since I have passed 1Z0-001 (an retired exam)?
    Q2:
Please confirm that finishing the SSC (Self-Study Course) DOES NOT apply the "hand-on course requirement ".
It still need to pay more money for an instructor-led (face-to-face) course, right?
    Q3:
Can I just finish ONE course "Oracle 11g Database Administrator Workshop II" from an Oracle authorized education center to fit the " hand-on course requirement " ?
Sorry I have to ask this because the budget consideration.
    Thank you very much!

A1 -- Yes, if you passed 1Z0-001, you do not need to take 1Z0-051.  When courses are retired, it simply means they are no longer given to *new* students.  Anyone who passed them still retains credit for having done so.
A2 -- Self Study CDs do not count for the hands-in requirement.  On the approved courses page of OU, it specifically states: "Self Study CD-Rom and Knowledge Center courses are excellent study and reference tools but DO NOT meet the Hands-on Requirement for certification."
A3 -- Only one course is required for the 11G OCP.  That one is on the approved list and so will be acceptable if the vendor is authorized by OU.

I am new at this community and I am thinking off doing de OCA exam. For this reason I have recently bought the "oca/ocp oracle database 11g all-in-one exam guide" but I don't know which part refers to de SQL Fundamentals (1z0-051). It is possble to know what chapters refers to each exam 1Z0-051, 1Z0-052, 1Z0-053 ? Maybe it is a foolish question but I have been looking for the answer unsuccessfully for hours.

It is really important to find the authorative source for the exam topics:
    Goto:
    http://certification.oracle.com
.... and look up those exams and their associated topics there. Exam topics can sometimes change after books are published, so it is important to double check on Oracle's Website.
I've not looked at that combined guide myself, but the first part will realate to the SQL topics of 1z0-051. The switch to the database archecture of part 2 should be obvious. The chapters tend to align well with the topics on the exam website.

    Link:http://www.mhprofessional.com/product.php?cat=112&isbn=0071597867&cat=112
Please what do you think ?I dont know what your background is, but you would probably need to organise some training and background as well.
You also need to to attend and get verified Oracle approved training to achieve DBA OCP
.... One step at a time though, and OCA Oracle Database 11g SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide (Exam 1Z0-051) is good value for low investment. But you may need to checkout other training.
The training link mentioned in an earlier post link may or may not be effective, however I do not believe it covers the oracle verified training pre-req to achieve DBA OCP.
Worth checking https://workforce.oracle.com/pls/wdp/new_home.main to see if there is cheap (not always best quality) training available near you.

People often mix the exams entity and the Certifications entity, and that doesn't help their understanding of things.
These is not actually a '1z0-042' certificate. There is a 10g DBA OCA certificate which indicates oracle has confirmed you have met the associated requirements (A 1z0-042 exma pass and an SQL exam pass (or SQL exam exemption).
There is no 'update exam from 1z0-043 to 1z0-053.'. The is however an exam 1z0-050 that can be used by a 10g DBA OCP to attain a 11g DBA OCP certiifcation.
So with reqard to your question, which I shall rephase as why isn't there a upgrade certification from 10g DBA OCA to 11g DBA OCA like there is from 10g DBA OCP to 11g DBA OCP ?
I will suggest reasons as follows:-
    - A 10g DBA OCP needing to get to 11g DBA OCP would need to take 2 exams rather than the one upgrade exam.
    - The upgrade exam can specifically focus on new features in 11g ... This allows/forces/enables the OCP upgrade candidate to go into depth on new features of 11g.
    - - - This is good for the candidate and for Oracle.
    - The 10g DBA OCA candidate needing 11g DBA OCA can obtain it by taking the 1z0-052 anyway. (and there is 80% commonality of topics betwen 1z0-042 and 1z0-052).
---- (Note if someone has taken 1z0-042 previously but does not have an SQL exam pass this would be needed in addition to 1z0-052).
    - It is more important a Candidate shows mastery of the DBA by takingtopics in the 1z0-043/1z0-053 sections than redoing DBA OCA topics.
There was something else I was doing tosay but i've forgotton it.

  • 1Z0-803 or 1Z0-850?

    Hi,
I'm planning to take the Java Associate Programmer exam (and after that, the OCP for Java). I have 2 points of view, and i need an advice/recommendation. So:
    1) Take 1Z0-850 (Oracle Certified Associate Java SE 5/SE 6, which covers topics such as Fundamental Object-Oriented Concepts, Java Implementation of Object-Oriented Concepts and so on, not covered in 1Z0-803), and then 1Z0-851 to become a Java SE 6 Certified Professional.
    2) Take directly 1Z0-803 (Java SE 7 Associate), which does not cover topics such as the basics of OO and other introductory notions about the Java Language and the architecture, etc (as 1Z0-850), but contains just "techincal" topics (Working With Java Data Types, Arrays, etc).
Maybe if i opt for 2), i should already have knowledge of those introductory concepts about Java and OO? or it is not mandatory..
I think if i take first 1Z0-850, and then 1Z0-851 - Oracle Certified Professional, Java SE 6 Programmer, and then upgrading the certification to Java SE 7 Professional, i will pay much more ( than taking 1Z0-803 and finally 1Z0-804 to become an OCP (so just 2 exams)
So what do you recommend, option 1 or 2?
One more question: when i go to "Upgrade an existing certification", at http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=458&get_params=p_track_id:JSE7Prog#1 , i see that only "Professional" certifications can be upgraded (Any version Oracle Certified Professional, Java Programmer OR Any version Sun Certified Java Programmer); so Associate cannot be? e.g. upgrading from 1Z0-850 to 1Z0-803 (which i have mentioned above)

    IMHO For certifications in general:
    (1) For most people, unless there are other factors, taking certification on the latest version would seem usually to be the sensible course. Factors against it might include for example if training, especially and mandatory training, for the earlier version was more accessible or cheaper.
    (2)
    - Typically for OCA's the difference between OCA(ver (x)) and OCA(ver (x-1)) will be one exam. On this basis there is no point for Oracle(or the candidate) in an upgrade exam, simply take the OCA(ver (x)) exam.
    - IMHO It is also important for OCA's to focus on getting to OCP standard which should provide a fuller and more rounded view of the product; rather than concentrating on new features.
    - (The typical example here would be 1z0-053 which concentrates a lot on backup ... would one want a DBA OCA focusing on exotic new features before he has demonstrated mastery of backup).
    - For OCP to (ver (x)) from (OCP (ver (x-1)) via OCA would be 2 exams (twice the cost). An upgrade exam here is a single exam cost.
    - The upgrade exam here allows Oracle to focus on OCP level candidates concentrating on the new features of the latest version, where their knowledge gap will be.
    - (and also where Oracle needs to get this knowledge into the community).
