  • 1z0-147 preparation

    Hi All,
I just gave my 1z0-051 exam and passed with 100%. I prepared for that exam from Sql Fundamentals Exam guide from Oracle. Now I want to go ahead and give my 1z0-147 in a month. I have an enquiry on where to prepare from for the exam. I did not find any book dedicated to this exam from Oracle. Could you please suggest on the name of the book that i can go ahead with.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Vamsi

The first one (Programming, 4th Ed) is the one you want. The rest are excellent but best delayed if on a budget.
In my opinion, almost all of the 'exam study' books have some deficiency. If you want to use those, consider getting TWO and comparing. If two have a difference, you know that is an area you need to look at Oracle's docs or ask in the forums. If they are the same, chances are high that they are correct - or you've hit one of the common myths. (A good DBA is always on the verge of total paranoia. Trust no one. Believe nothing. They ARE out to get you.)
Also consider getting an official Oracle course on CD Rom for self-study. Much less expensive than instructor led, and - if not correct - at least it will be consistent with the exams.
(ANd yes, there are errors in the exams as well. Mostly because the exams make some assumptions about the environment. We all know about assumptions, don't we ...)

  • Retirement of 1z0-007 1z0-147 1z0-031 1z0-032 1z0-033 exams .....

    The retirement of 1z0-007 1z0-147 1z0-031 1z0-032 1z0-033 must surely be imminent .
I think WDP should have stopped teaching them a while ago.
For 1z0-007 and 1z0-147 suitable and IMHO better alternatives exist in 1z0-051 and 1z0-144. People are not exposed to best practice studying for those older exams.
IMHO There is no real reason why 1z0-007 and 1z0-147 could not be set for retirement immediately ... (ie in 3 months time) and any candidates studying should find litle gap in studying for the alternatives.
1z0-031 for 9i DBA OCA and then 1z0-032 + 1z0-033 for 9i DBA OCP it is a different matter .... essentially because of the number of exams in the track and the fact mandatory training is required to complete the track. And from once all those exams are withdrawn any undertaken will not be valid for a later Oracle Database version, 10g or 11g or 12c ( and it would set an (IMHO bad) precedent for earlier version training to be allowed for a later version).
In some ways those trained on these should already have had sufficient time to certify ... and in many ways a majority (but perhaps not all) of those caught out perhaps deserve little sympathy .... But anyone caught out after having passed 1z0-007 + 1z0-031 + 1z0-032 but not 1z0-033 would feel aggrieved by having to do more training plus take 1z0-0[45]2 and 1z0-0[45]3 to get DBA OCP.
And retiring 1z0-031; 1z0-032; and 1z0-033 simultaneously with 3 months notice could leave people stuck on track and this could be branded as 'unfair'. (And I assume these exams will need to be retired when Database 12c finally goes production).
Can I therefore suggest the following may allow people avoid people getting stuck on track:
    0) Retirement of 1z0-007 and 1z0-147 immediately (well 3 months notice) .... this gives the word out to candidates of this era that the exams of this era are being removed.
    1) An effective 6 month notice of retirement of 1z0-032 and 1z0-033:
    This could be achieved by:
1a) A 6 month (or even end of year) simulaneous announcement of retirement of 1z0-031/2/3.
1b) A three month notification of retirement of 1z0-031 ... this would stop people entering the 9i DBA OCP exam track ... but not retiring 1z0-032 and 1z0-033 for at least a further 3 months after that date.
Thinking as I write this an annoucement to retire:
    1z0-007, 1z0-147, 1z0-031 on 31st may 2013 then 1z0-032,1z0-033 at the end of october/november/december 2013 would be perhaps helpful.
This is prompted by {thread:id=2492717} indicating there are still people midway through the 9i DBA OCP track who may be caught by its retirement. One may argue they if they wish to be OCP
Readers should note I am nore authorative on these matters, and the certification team are unlikely to announce a retirement before it happens, so I would not expect them to be able to comment on this until an annoucement for retirement is actually made (apart from we review exams for retirement regularly), but I do feel they listen to such comments and take them into account.

As {thread:id=2511529} a retirement announcement has been made at https://blogs.oracle.com/certification/entry/0864_01
Some people have already commnets on how 1z0-147 and 1z0-141 are affected, though as 1z0-144 and 1z0-151 are available with a high topic correlation there really isn't too big a deal on these.
The retirement of the 10g OAS exams probably essentially now has little impact as this is an end of life production replacing with weblogic.
The big impact could be a number of people on the 9i DBA OCP certification who will find their existing training invalidated unless they complete 9i DBA OCP before requirement; and if they fail to do that they will need to pay more to retrain to complete DBA OCP. I am expecting some squeals in this area from people who have dallied ... though arguably in most (but not all cases) there may be little reason to be overly sympathetic with their dalliance. This thread post, and others I have made previously, was a warning.

Uday0) Warning: Dont publish your Oracle Testing Id. or Prometric Id. on this website, it would be a breach of the NDA you have agreed to.
0.1) Register with certview.oracle.com ... it helps to know where you are at..
    1) Identify your Prometric Number that you took your prometric exam under.
    2) Identify your Oracle Testing Id. you have under Pearson VUE.
    3) If they are the same all is ok.
    4) If they are different full details of both will need to goto Pearson VUE requesting a merge. (I haven't recently checked the FAQs for updates on this procedure.
    5) Dont try to request a merge while you certview regsitration is in progress.

  • Retirement of 9i DBA OCA and OCP and associated exams and also 1z0-147

This question hasnt been asked for a while, which I suppose means the numbers doing the followig exams must be diminishing:
    1z0-007, 1z0-031, 1z0-032, 1z0-033, 1z0-147
I think there is now a fairly good case for these to be retired, assume that WDP courses for them have ceased; though vouchers may still be in existance.
I particularly wold like to see 1z0-007 and 1z0-147 retired as the far better and more modern equivalent exam 1z0-051 and 1z0-144 exist. IMHO These could probably be done on the normal 3 months noice.
While I think 1z0-031 could be ceasd at relatively short notice, the case for 1z0-032 having a longer period would be more useful, as people could be part way into a 9i DBA OCP and unable to complete in the 3 months.
IMHO it would be best to withdraw 1z0-031 first, or to give an extended retirement date for 1z0-032 and 1z0-033 of at least 6 months.
I guess of all these I would like 1z0-007 and 1z0-147 to be retired. IMHO They should have been put to grass long ago.

Thanks for your comments on these exams. We are actually currently in the middle of a project to evaluate a number of exams to see which ones need to be identified for upcoming retirement. I will pass your comments along to the team conducting this review.
    Thanks,

  • Exams 1Z0-141 and 1Z0-147 Not Retiring

Retirement for exams 1Z0-141 and 1Z0-147 has been postponed. Upon further assessment, there appears to still be a significant enough group of individuals taking these two exams that we have chosen to postpone their retirement at this time. There is not a current retirement date for these two exams. Exams 1Z0-141 and 1Z0-147 will remain available after July 31, 2013.

    Certification Forum ModeratorMy opinion is:
Particularly in the 1z0-147 case this exam is more open to braindump abuse than the later 1z0-144. In both cases a candidate of one of those exams should be able to transition to studying for the other without overmuch effort. Indeed if they had passed their certification we would expect them to do that.
Having said that it may be that WDP (and others), but it is WDP that counts, have been training people towards 1z0-147/141 rather than 1z0-144/1z0-151; and if this was the case Oracle owes care to these people.
1z0-147 exams rely on training on software that can not longer be downloaded from OTN.
My concern, and it is perhaps legitimate to ask the concern, is that they is simple number counting being done here as opposed to 'why?'.
Please consider: http://www.supernanny.co.uk/TV-Show.aspx ... rewarding good behaviour, Victoria Stillwell ... etc. etc.
    Thankyou.

worth take the 147 exam? This is my opinion, I do not make the rules, and those who make the rules reserve the right to change the rules without notice, though they are unlikely to do that.
    1) If you pass 1z0-147, that pass will forever remain valid forever (unless you are found to break certification agreements (essentially cheat or disclose questions / answers)).
    2) Examinations are usually withdrawn after at least 3 months clear notice. (eg 1z0-001 recently).
    3) 1z1-144/1z0-044 is shown as planned to complete beta on 10-Sep-2009, and there will be a few week gap until the (non-beta) exam appears. (Experience has shown this date may slip).
    4) There my reasoning is the earliest reasonable date for withdrawal of 1z0-147 would be january 2010, in practice it will probably continue on well beyond that.
    5) If you achieve Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate via 1z0-147 then that certification will stand for ever.
    6) In my opinion are topics for 1z0-144 seem a vast improvement on 1z0-147 (in fact I am not impressed with 1z0-147 even though I passed it).
However I suspect while both 1z0-144 and 1z0-147 both exist, and while direct study information on 1z0-144 seems sparse, many will plump for 1z0-147. (See the numbers on this forums going for 1z0-007 rather than 1z0-051).
Regardless of which you pass , you goal should surely be to know 1z0-144 topics well. Bear in mind however, if you take the beta 1z1-144, results will not be published until mid october 2009 earliest.

  • OCA-1Z0-147-Help!

    Hello,
Does anyone have practice questions for 1Z0-147 PL/SQL test (OCA) ? If you have, can you send me it to the following e-mail: [email protected] ! Does anyone who passed the exam know: Does questions from pdf-s files (Actualtests.com-The Power of Knowing) are same like questions on the exam?
    Any help would be great!
    thank you,
    Zeljko

There are no restrictions. The only restriction you may face is if the 147 exam expires. There are currently no plans to retire this exam, but if you are not planning on taking the exam right away, you may just want to continue to check the website to ensure that the exam does not retire before you are ready to take it. We typically give approximately 3 months of notice for a retiring exam. There will be messaging on the exam page. However, as I mentioned above, there are currently no plans to retire this exam.

  • Exam 1z0-147 - Autonomous transactions in triggers

    hi all,
I am taking my 1z0-147 exam soon and I would like to know if anyone can help me out with this dilema.
all the practice material I have used states that transactional statements such as COMMIT cannot be performed inside a trigger. However this is not completely true as you can perform commits and other ddl etc inside a trigger if you declare it as an autonomous transaction...
I would like to know if anyone can reccommend which approach I should take for answering the real exam questions. which answer is right? Can I perform a commit inside a trigger or not?
    Thanks in advance!

SteveIts probably bad practice to ask questions on certification related questions here, and your question might fail a strict interpretation of the Non-disclosure agreement.
You should probably try to get a response from the source of your legitimately obtained authorized practice questions:
This also means I best not comment directly on this, especially as I have taken 1z0-147
And Its why I've censored my quoting of your response
The key thing is to remember that the answer required is best answer from information gained in the question (and an excepton not on syllabus in unlikely to contribute to best answer ... but thats a judgement call).
If you really feel an ambiguity during the exam I think a comment button is present and you may care to use it ... but of course this loses time ... and probably will you you more than you gain. You could then possilby argue a borderline fail, but if your borderline anyway then probably the best to reasonably hope for would be a free retake, so barely worth the candle.
    I think most exams try to weed out ambiguous questions, however I recall not being best happy with certain answers I saw from an authorized source material I used for this exam. In fact I think 1z0-147 is a rehash on 1z0-101. In fact I take a right scunner to 1z0-147 and am pleased to see the arrival of 1z0-144 .... Though I half wonder if there's been more interest in 1z0-147 since 1z0-144 arrived :-;
