1Z0-402

Hi all,
I want to study the OEL certification.
I saw that the exam 1Z0-402 is validated against Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) Version 4.
I'm working everyday on OEL Version 5.x
As that exam covers the basics of Linux administration : I suppose studying on 5.x is not a problem ?
Is it also true for the next exam Enterprise Linux System Administration 1Z0-403 ?
Anyone know if these exams will be upgraded to the version 5 of OEL ?
Thanks for your answers.

As that exam covers the basics of Linux administration : I suppose studying on 5.x is not a problem ?From memory this exam is more orientated towards 'user' commands and the topics can probably be effectively studied on OEL 4 or OEL 5 or most linux / unix versions. The pass mark is not too high so the occasional mistake can be tolerated.
Is it also true for the next exam Enterprise Linux System Administration 1Z0-403 ?If you check the topics for this I think you will notice much more on the unix admin side. There are some changes between OEL 4 and OEL 5 so you need to watch the topics carefully.
If in doubt I'd recommend installing OEL 4 as a virtual machine using sun virtualbox or whatever takes you fancy.
Anyone know if these exams will be upgraded to the version 5 of OEL ?
I dont know this. Perhaps they will wait a while longer for OEL 6. As there is to be a RHEL 6 I would expect an OEL 6.
Thanks for your answers.

This is RHEL/OEL 4 based, so centos or OEL or RHEL could be used as appropriate. They important thing to note is the '4' .. which is now a little ancient ... some things a little different in '5' and '6'. The exam could usefully do with a makeover IMHO.

    Hi
there is a study guide available soon Oracle Enterprise Linux Administrator Certified Associate Exam Guide (Exams 1z0-402 and 1z0-403), that why I will take exam ;-)

Unfortunately LPIC expires after 5 years unless you take a higher level or retake same level .....
    RHCT similarly.
The Oracle exam certification relates to OEL/RHEL 4 ... which is a bit oldhat rather than redht nowadays. The advantage for you is it is an easy win, the disadavantage is it doen't really say much mor eabout yourself. RHSA on RHEL 6 might suit and say more .... but might be harder to gain. Any it wouldn't help any Oracle Partnership points iof that was important. However as pointed out you should be able to waiver 1z0-402

  • Reference book for Oracle Linux exam 1Z0-402

    Hi gurus!
Can you please give me useful reference books which cover the al topics for Oracle Linux Exam 1Z0-402 preparation?
    Thanks
    Mokarem

Can you please give me useful reference books which cover the al topics for Oracle Linux Exam 1Z0-402 preparation?By itself, 1Z0-402 does not grant any certification. Presumably you are going for Oracle Linux Administrator Certified Associate. That certification path also requires passing 1Z0-403. However, you can skip 1Z0-402 if you already have one of several other industry Linux certifications (LPI, Linux+, Ubuntu, Red Hat, or Novell). My recommendation would be to go for one of these certifications, then skip straight to the 1Z0-403 exam. I suggest that for several reasons:
    1. There is a lot more study resources for exams like CompTIAs Linux+ available.
    2. The other Linux certifications are better known than Oracle's.
    3. Since 1Z0-402 by itself does not grant a certification, going this route gets you two certifications for the price of one.

  • Passed 1Z0-051 -- is the score final?

    Hi All,
I'm pursuing 'Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate' certification. Just finished ONLINE '1Z0-051 Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I'. After exam, I get a summary containing e.g. 'Passing Score 60%' and my actual score, which is 'Pass (67.3%)'.
According to what one can see on the official Oracle website describing 'Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I', 'Passing score subject to change'. How it relates to me? If I got an information after the exam confirming that I passed, could I believe that I really passed, or rather shoud wait for some kind of additional confirmation, as 'Passing score subject to change'?
    Just a little confusion.

    My understanding is:
Your score is final, you have taken an exam where the pass mark for the questions given to you was 60% and you have exceeded that.
    Congratulations and well done!
So I believe your pass is forever (unless one were found to have cheated or have violated a non discloure agreement, in which case one could have the pass voided for that)
Oracle reserves the right at a future time to change the pass mark ar a future time if it is more appropriate, probably due to questions in the exam question pool being harder or easier.
I expect this provision on the website is to avoid someone complaining that they looked on the website before the exam and seen a passmark as 60%,
yet when they came to take it they found they had a exam with a passmark of 62% and they might feel they had a grounds for complaint.
The publishing of a guide pass mark on the oracle website is generally useful when comparing with the exam topics in determining whether to study for or preparedness to take an exam,
but it should be only one indicator; my personal opinion is to aim to study to be able to have a shot at all questions. From memory 1z0-147 Program with PL/SQL has a pass mark of 77% or so,
1z0-402 Enterprise Linux Fundamental of about 57%. To get the grade in the former the examiner is probably trying to ensure accurate understanding of specified exam topics, in the latter
the object might be not to worry so much if the examinee did not understand some of broader width of that exam topics as well. In addition beta testing would have determined a lot of people
were finding it hard to achieve on 1z0-402.

Two books hat might help towards 1z0-402 are:-
    ISBN-13: 978-0470404836 (LPIC-1)
ISBN-13: 978-1430215752 (Linux Recipes for Oracle DBAs: A Problem-solution Approach)
I dont have a single reference for 1z0-403 but in general system admin information applicable to RHEL 4 is useful. Beware of trawling the net as you would probably simply come accross links to unauthorised learning material/braindumps unless you are using non-certiifcation related sites. The OEL forum may also be useful if you are studying a topic and become stuck.

  • LINUX OCA 1Z0-403 prerequisits

    Hello all
I plan to take the Linux OCA certification.
I already have an LPIC-2 and RHCT.
What do I need to do besides booking and passing the exam?
I see that Oracle has the 1Z0-402 prerequisit but I am not obliged to take it.
How does the process work with Oracle?
I have no experience with Oracle products or with Oracle certification processes?
I find the guidelines on Oracle's website messy and they address more the Oracle DBA certifications.
Has anybody taken this process or can give me any help?

RegardsWhat you need to do is apply for a 1z0-402 waiver.
The details are here : [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=149]
By the way I am not an authorative Oracle source.
You have arrived in the middle of a period of transition from Prometric to Pearson VUE. You should do all things Oracle in relatation to Pearson VUE ... do not following any guidelines relating to Prometric.
    0) I am assuming you have never had an Oracle Testing ID (Promteric Number) in relation to any Oracle Exam.
---- Having Duplicate Oracle Testing numbers is a pain:
    1) Get an Oracle Testing Id from Pearson VUE.
How do I register for an exam?
    [http://pearsonvue.com/obtainlogin] { may be different if yo already have Pearosn VUE}
This will get you a Oracle Testing ID. THIS WILL STAY WITH YOU FOR LIFE - DO NOT LOSE IT OR GET DUPLICATES
    2) Fax (or email) a copy of you certificate to [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=149]
... Your Oracle Testing ID will be useful here .... however exceptionally it is possilbe they cant accept it until you've taken an exam.
    3) In terms of the Hands on course procedure that is currently suspended until 28th september or so due to the transiation
See [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=312#2] : How do I sumbit the Hands On Course Requirement Form at Pearson VUE? - which essentially says procedure will be published on 28th september when Hands on Course submission re-opens....
Hope this is of some guidance .....

MartinFrom a global viewpoint there is no such thing as the OCA  exam , though for an individual focused on a particular exam for a particular OCA there may be such a a default.
There are many different exams associated with the many different OCA certifications.
For some it is suitable, for some it is not.
For the exams 1z0-051 and 1z0-144 this edition would generally be suitable .... for 1z0-052 it most probably would not, and for 1z0-402 and 1z0-403 it would be useless!!

  • Increase the passing score

Some people say that Oracle Certification doesn't carry that much weight since the passing score is so low (60% or so). And in the certification, the passing score isn't shown, thus making the person scoring 100 % the same as the "almost fail" 60%. Why is the passing score is so low? Can't it be raised? Or at least put the passing score in the certificate. That way, it's more fair. Make my Certification worthy, since it's not cheap.

Or at least put the passing score in the certificate. That way, it's more fair. Make my Certification worthy, since it's not cheap. The worthy certification candidate understand certification exams having passing scores; while a certification, which, depending on certification, can be achieved by one or more routes, becomes a little more difficut to manage in terms of passing score.
There are probably many reason for not putting a percentage on a certificate .... increased exam costs through increased dispute handling might be just one of them.
The passing score is set depending on the difficulty of the exam, and IMHO is usually set appropriately. In general IMHO a passing score of ideally 67% to 72% will usualy indicate exam questions have been set wih the appropriate level of dfficulty and exam time. When the pass mark ges toward 77% as the the case of 1z0-147; this may be an indicator the questions for this are becoming 'too easy' . Equally a pass mark of near 60% may indicate questions are too difficult, 1z0-402 is the a prime example here, whee a 57% pass mark does seem too low to be reasonable.
Probably the 60% pass ark exam you are referring to is 1z0-051.
Couple of notes on this one:
    (1) It is a non hgh stakes entry level exam that is available non proctored.
    (2) It needs to have a comparable candidate pass rate to 1z0-007 (Pass mark 71%).
    (3) It is quite possilbly the first exam people will encounter.
.... To the person who passed 1z0-051 say well done, you have studied an exam with a good topic range based on modern SQL and have achieved a pass.
.... To anyone who has achieved 95% in 1z0-051 and wants recognition above those getting a pass at 60%..... i say go and pass 1z0-047 and get your SQL OCE certification!!!
Rgds - bigdelboy .... possibly rambling off topic.

ThanksThe page shows the exam is in beta ... (up until at least 15th december according to my estimate) ... and that can extend (or it could even exceptionally reduce). Three months after beta ends it goes to production .... and the exam price shoots up.
Oracle also has a couple of other linux exams ... but the 1z0-403 is rhel 4 based and is becoming out of touch through obselesence. 1z0-402 is relevant but probably not vastly recognised.
IMHO from the exam topics this exam appears to be targetted at ensuring Oracle Partners Staff have demonstrated some understanding of how to assist in setting up OEL and can apply the support Procedures Oracle have in place for business customers. ( Oracle Partners are awarded points for staff having such exam credits; and that can be important in maintaining their partnership level status ... silver, diamond ...... etc).
Some will find other linux certification offerings more relevant for them ... LPIC/COMPCIA/ubuntu/RHEL ....
Any thank you for hinting this exam existed to me .... i had not heard about it and beta's do not stay at the cheap beta price for long. If I have the time (and I dont really) I'd have a shot at it myself in beta.

  • OPN Launches New Oracle Partner Levels, "OPN Specialized"

<p>Considered to be most significant program evolution in over a decade, the Oracle Partner Network (OPN) unveiled its new OPN Specialized program today.</p>
<p align="justify">Specialization is a key focus of the new program, giving Oracle partners the opportunity to gain the differentiation and competitive edge needed to stand out in the marketplace. Specialization is achieved through competency development, business results, expertise and proven success to be recognized by Oracle, and preferred by customers.</p>
<p align="justify">Partners wishing to obtain the high level benefits of the new Gold and Platinum partner levels must earn at least one specialization. Those partners who earn specialization in at least one area (and up to four areas) are eligible for entry to the Gold level, which allows access to the full spectrum of Oracle products. Those partners who obtain five or more specializations qualify for the elite Platinum partner program level, which is the highest partner program level offered by Oracle.</p>
<p align="justify">Oracle Certification candidates who provide their OPN Company ID number when registering for and successfully completing select Oracle Certification exams will - in addition to earning the base certification - also be awarded the Oracle Partner Network Certified Specialist designation for that area as well.</p>
<p align="justify">To learn more about these new OPN levels and specialization, visit the Oracle Partner Network (OPN) website. To view a list of certifications that qualify for the OPN Certified Specialist designation, visit OPN Certified Specialist Paths on the Oracle Certification Website.</p>
    <p align="justify"><strong>QUICK LINKS</strong></p>

    <li>OPN Certified Specialist: Certifications</li>

    1) What about persons who have previously completed said exams/certs for a different employer and are now with an OPN employer ?
If a candidate is an employee of an OPN member company, and they already hold one of the certifications on the list, they can obtain the OPN Certified Specialist designation (certificate and logo) by going to their profile at pearsonvue.com and updating the profile with their OPN Company ID. Candidates can obtain their OPN Company ID by contacting their OPN business center at http://partner.oracle.com/jsp/prn/prnLocation.jsp
    2) What about the base certification for 1z0-402 ? ... or is this an OPN only certification - with no base certification?
The Oracle Enterprise Linux Implementation Specialist certification is available to all candidates. If a candidate had previously passed the 402 exam, they should receive a certificate in the mail for this certification. If you do not receive this certificate in 4-6 weeks, please contact [email protected]
    3) What about the base certification for 1z0-514 ? ... or is this an OPN only certification - or is their a base certifcation as well?
The Oracle Database 11g Implementation Specialist isn't really a base certification. This is a separate OCA certification. Obtaining this certification will not lead to any further certification. This certification is also available to all candidates.
    4) What about people who leave their OPN employer for another employer?
They will maintain the certification as well as the OPN Certified Specialiast designation. If they go to another company who is an OPN member, they should update their Pearson VUE profile with the new OPN Company ID so that their OPN Certified Specialist designation will count toward the new company's specialization.

You would need to pass 1z0-403 to get Oracle Enterprise Linux Administrator Certified Associate (as your existing certification is an acceptable alternative for 1z0-402 you shouldn't have to take it - but see below (1) ).
This certification is based on OEL4 (aka RHEL4) and would generally IMHO be considered a lesser certification than an RHCE (Though the questions asked migh probe some different areas compared to an RHCE).
IMHO In general RHCE certified people would be best advised to keep effort into keeping their certifications current. http://www.redhat.com/certification/faq ... afiak event RHEL 4 RHCE are now non-current or about to be so.
    - I am not sure if a non-current RHCE/LPIC would mean 1z0-402 can be bypassed. You would need to wait for an authorative answer on this.

regardsI believe Oracle Enterprise Linux Administrator Certified Associate Exam Guide (Exams 1z0-402 and 1z0-403) (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 978-0071615440) is finnaly due to be published 5th feb 2010 (ref amazon.co.uk .... not always right) and one assumes this will be the most focused book for this exam.
There's a number of other books that would help with 1z0-402 ... i've covered some of those in previous posts. I'd imagine for 1z0-403 one would have to use a number of different sources if you using the above book.
The exams are multiple choice based, however one assumes students will do practical hands on in their preparation.

KrischerIts possible the book 'Linux Recipes for Oracle DBAs' ISBN13: 978-1-4302-1575-2 et al might be of some help, but it might not be by itself totally suitable for a complete linux newbie. ISBN-13: 978-0072230536 might just be worth it iff you can pick it up really cheap second hand. The certification book Oracle Enterprise Linux Administrator Certified Associate Exam Guide (Exams 1Z0-402 And 1Z0-403) (Paperback) might be worth it if it does finally become available in february (ISBN-13: 978-0071615440); but it might go into too much depth and will be less RDBMS orientated.
