2.0.1 Back Up Time Still Really slow!
Hi Peeps, 2.0.1 update went on cleanly with no problems at all. On the whole seems to be a good update - back up times are still really painfully slow and seem to be linked directly to how many apps you have installed. I removed them all and the back up was pretty much instantaneous but now with the 16 apps I have installed it is taking around 10-15mins to back up. (EVERY TIME I SYNC!)
I seen posts saying "Back up times are greatly improved" but for me this is not the case. Any ideas? I don't want to do a full restore as I am pretty sure the apps are the issue as everything else is fine!
Suggestion to Apple to add the option - "Don't back up my Applications" as a check box on the front screen of the iPhone when selected in devices. Maybe for iTunes 7.7.2
No, that is the way it works. It takes longer to backup the first time you add an app -- it then goes pretty fast, unless you have changed any settings on your Apps vis-a-vis the iPhone, or played games that store settings, etc. Those will then resync and take forever.
I don't play any games at all on my iPhone, and have about 19 apps, and it takes about one minute to do the backup each time, after the initial backup which took about 20 minutes after the restore.
The other trick -- never ever add an app through the App Store -- it takes ten times as long to backup FROM your iPhone to your desktop, then it does from your desktop TO your iPhone.
You can just touch the X if you don't want your apps backed up. Give it a moment to start the backup, and then once you see the meter jump a notch, you can hit the X. It backs up your phone data first, which you DO want backed up, and then proceeds to backup the App data. Just skip it and go on to sync the rest. A lot of people do that, and only back up the App Data once a week or so, when you an just let it do it's thing and walk away from your computer while it does so.

Macbook Pro 13' (Late 2011) STILL really slow since updating to Mavericks
So I've seen a lot of discussions about the same issue and some have threads have been solved, yet others remain unknown. I have the same problem as others that stated they have experience something similar to my case. Just fyi though, that my computer was already really slow prior to upgrading to Mavericks (on Mountain Lion). That was when I decided to do a clean install of Mountain Lion and everything was snappier than ever. It wasn't long until Mavericks came out and I instantly did an upgrade but everything suddenly started slowing down again and it's getting worse. I hope someone can help me out here, thank you.

0 B Page-outs1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

my macbook (2008) is slow - is this because i have too much in it? i tried getting rid of 4000 of the 10000 photos i have,also got rid of some applications that i dont use, but is still takes ages to open an app or find a website. do i need more ram memory? or should i just get rid of what is in it? thanks for the insights

Wifi with Time Capsule really slow
I have a brand new Time Capsule, macbook pro 13", and iPad (all of them less than a month old, purchased the same time). Everything work together great with the exception of my iphone 4. Using a download apps, if I download using 3G I get over 300kb/sec. Download using wifi, I get about 30kb/sec and sometime less. If I reset, I mean hard reset the time capsule and reconfigure it, I'll get amazing speed for a day or two on my iphone. Then it slowed down to crawl again. Using speedtest apps shows the speed is great at 8 to 9 mb/sec. I'm baffled.
I set my macbook pro to connect 5GHz, and the rest is automatic.
Any tips?You have the dual "n" band enabled with your Time Capsule - the 5GHz band for your MBP, and the 2.4GHz band for your iPhone?
I have not experienced the same with my iPhone 4 when connected to my Time Capsule set up with dual band for my MBP and iPhone. -
Error message and run time is really slow-not responding

I am using Adobe Captivate 5 and have been bulding alot of training simulations over the past few days and have noticed that the system seems to be preforming worse and worse as the days go by. So I wondered if maybe there was a setting or something I'm not doing or doing to affect the preformance?
I have attached acouple of screen shots to illustrate what is happening.

Heidi.There is some evidence that renaming the file can work but I prefer to open Captivate, select File > New Project > Project from Template and navigate to your current CPTL file. This will then create a normal CPTX file based on your template. I'd use this method just in case there are any issues that might bite you in the end from not doing things the way Adobe originally templates to be used. After you've done this, archive your template away somewhere just in case, and continue your project development using just the CPTX files.

Time Machine won't back up. Starts of REALLY SLOW, and the errors out.
I've been having a hard time getting time machine to back up. To start off I'll give you my specs and what I have done.
iMac
OS 10.6.6
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB 667 DDR@ SDRAM
320 GB HD
All software updates are current. I am trying to back up to an external Western Digital 1 GB drive connected by USB2. I have formatted the external drive, and set a single partition on that drive from the Disc Utility. I have run disk repair on both the external and local hard drive. I have run disk repair permission on the local drive. I have restarted, after every time. I have done everything listed above multiple times, and have done them all in kinda different orders each time.
My thought is that the issue may not be with the hard drives, but maybe a file its trying to back up. When it starts out for the first time, it tells me that it needs to back up over 100 GB of data. It gets about halfway done, and then errors out. When I try to start it again, it tells me that it needs to backup around 50 GB of data. And this time, its REALLY slow. Like bytes slow, not Mega bytes, or even kilobytes. Bytes. 36 bites backed up, 120 bytes backed up. 2 Kilobytes backed up. SLOW SLOW SLOW.
Then it picks up, and usually gets up to 120 MB, and then gives me this error message "The Backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disk. - The problem may be temporary. Try again later to back up. If the problem persists, use Disk Utility to repair your backup disk."
Its a pretty generic message, and gives me no help in trying to figure out what the problem is. I've been trying again for almost 3 days now, and nothing is working. Is there an error log file that I can go find that would help me a little more?woody24 wrote:

Time machine has become really slow lately
Hi people!
My time machine has always worked fine since I moved it to using a regular external disk rather than my previous home-hacked NAS disk arrangement that always ended up in trouble. Lately however it's been starting to be really slow. Before a backup was started, performed and finished pretty quickly but now it's a darn drag waiting for it to finish. It also seems to do backup thinning of quite recent backups without the disk being anywhere near to full, please see the log quoted for further information. What can I do, apart from starting fresch again which I do not want to do. After all, what is the point with a system like time machine if you have to start fresch every now and then.
Especially note the long times taken to copy relatively small amounts of data and the long time required to thin out the backups, this hasn't taken as long before.
EDIT: I just remembered that TM thins out backups in the past according to the lastest 24 hours, past week and so on, so the actual selection for thinning may be fine, but it's still really slow!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

How large is your hard drive and how much hard drive space do you have left?
It is very difficult to offer troubleshooting suggestions when the "os version" you are using is unknown as each os has their own troubleshooting solutions. -
Apple TV download is really slow

My Apple TV is slow in dowlnloading movies. This has been like this for the last 2 months. I use to be able to watch a movie almost instantaneously but now have to wait up to 1hr 30mins in most cases before I can start watching it. This occurs in both HD and SD although SD is a little quicker but is still really slow. Even then it pauses part way through to continue to download the movie. I have had my broadband connection speed checked and spoken to my broadband provider (Telstra Clear) with speed check achieving a download speed of 15mbps. I have Apple TV 2. Can anyone help before reverting back to DVDs from the video shop?The Apple TV itself is the bottleneck. The problem is not bandwidth.
My home theatre system uses Apple TV for most content. I also use a MacMini for the few DVDs I have and for EyeTV television recording.
Same as all the posts to this thread - performance slowed badly the last few months.
However, I notice that if I download rentals and purchased movies through iTunes on the MacMini, it works as the Apple TV did before. That is, start the download and wait a minute or so and then watch the movie end to end without interruption.
Also, iTunes allows me to cache the full movie if I give myself a few minutes prior to the time I want to watch something.
Not great. But it works.

Hi guys,
I just upgraded my iPhone 4S, from iOS 5 to 6.1.3. Since then it has been extremely slow, I mean I started to download apps that I didn't back up, and they take 5 minutes or so. This is crazy, I mean less than 2 hours ago my phone was in great working order, I just wanted to upgrade and be on the latest firmware.
I have in the last 30 minutes tried the following:
Resetting network settings.
Resetting my iPhone (holding home and power button until apple logo appears)
Deleting everything and starting complete fresh from iTunes.
My phone is still really slow. I am starting to regret updating my firmware? this surely shouldn't be the case. My phone is less than a year old.
I use Deezer, it's an offline and online music streaming app, I guess like spotify. Before I upgraded, I could sync a track for offline use within 15-20 seconds. I just listened to a song 4 times before it had finished syncing.

there are no specific filters. just text incrustation (but not on all the clip) and 1 green mask up a part of the video. Some of those project just have text incrustation. So i thought it was for now real basic thinks on this project. Previsualisation works well inside FCPX.
May be the problem would be those imported files. I will test as soon as possible a more basic render from that file and from the same that i could now convert with "ClipWarp". -
IPod touch is REALLY slow to load and won't connect to iTunes on the PC
I have an iPod touch that won't connect to my iTunes account anymore. It is also really really slow to load. I have powered it down and back up and it is still really slow. Has anyone else experienced this?
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer to help determine if you have a computer or iPod problem.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I have a MacBook running OSX 10.6.8. Yesterday it started running really slowly and even locking up. This seems to be especially true when or after I use Firefox.
I have run the TechTool Delux diagnostics and everything came up fine. I have used the Disk Utility to Repair Permissions and Repair Disk. I have run Snow Leopard Cache Cleaner (the demo version) and done everything the program offers in the window (haven't tried the menu bar to see if there are other options there) including a deep cache cleaning. Nothing helps. It's still really slow to boot, really slow to react to any command, and seems to get worse every time I use Firefox (which of course I'm not doing anymore).
Is there anything else I can do, any other program I can run, before I take it in to a technician?Booting in safe mode does take longer than a regular boot. That's to be expected. I was hoping you would test the same applications in safe mode that are giving trouble. I wouldn't expect Entourage to work in safe mode at all, because the Microsoft license monitoring process isn't running.
So let's just skip that step. Assuming you're not in safe mode now, please launch the Terminal application, copy or drag -- do not type -- the line of text below into the window, and press return:
kextstat -kl | awk ' !/apple/ { print $6 $7 } '
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.)
Next, do the same thing with this line:
sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|com\.vix|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
That's one line, not two. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.

Again, one line. Finally, one more:

Really slow start up on my MBA
I read some posts, and tried most of the suggestions but still really slow.
I tried: cleaning computer and deleting files, also got rid of Bootcamp which I don't use Windows, ran MacKeeper, also removed all Login Items under accounts. It takes 1min 45 secs to get to the blue screen, and another minute to finally get all the icons in place.

There is nothing wrong with your Dell, it will work fine with any MacbookPro. I have been using Dell displays for over 12 years with many different Mac models. I have two 21" Ultra Sharp displays working side by side to design a Keynote presentation right now.
The issue your having is with the way Keynote takes control of the video output to both displays, it sends the presentation signal to one and the presenter display to the other, this is set up in;
Keynote preferences > Presenter display.
If you want to show a wesite or another app on either display, use application switcher:
press the the command key on the keyboard, then the tab key; a row of applications will show what applications are running, choose which one you want to show. Use command > tab to return to Keynote. -

First, that cannot be an iBook G4 as that machine cannot run Snow Leopard let alone Mountain Lion. To run Snow Leopard it has to be an Intel processor, not a G4. What does it show as the Model Identifier in About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Model Identifier?
Second, if you have erased the hard drive there should not be remnants of any prior content. Even though Disk Warrior is saying nothing is wrong with the hard drive, it sounds as though there are problems. You may want to consider simply replacing the hard drive so there are no questions about faults. A good source is OWC, http://www.macsales.com where they also have on-line videos showing how to do the replacement.
Third, you could also try again to restart using the Snow Leopard DVD/CD and use Disk Utility on that install disk to erase again, and do it a couple times, then try to install. If it continues to refuse, then it sounds as though there is a fault with the hard drive.

Can't watch TV Shows on ipod once I've watched them once.
Just got my Video Ipod a couple of weeks ago. Once I watch, or start to watch a show on my ipod. If i sync again, they are no longer on my ipod and I can't get them back on. Will it only let you watch them once? If so that's BS. New to the whole Vide
