2.0 webservice InsertOrUpdate

I am working with some 2.0 custom objects and am trying to insert/update records in CRM through the web service API with C#. I know in web service 1.0 there was an InsertOrUpdate method. Is there anything similar in 2.0 or do I need to query CRM OD first find if there is already a record existing and then do either an insert or an update.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
So I need to query CRM first to find if a record exists to determine if I need to do an Insert or an Update? This seems not to be not too efficient. This really depends on the design of the application your are building. As recommended in our best practices contained in the WS User Guide:
Performance of the Update and Insert Methods Versus the InsertOrUpdate Method
If you use Web Services v1.0, designing your application to use the Insert and Update methods may
result in an increase in throughput compared to using the InsertOrUpdate method. This is due to the
additional business logic and SQL statements executed during the InsertOrUpdate operation to
determine whether the submitted records match any existing records in the Oracle CRM On Demand
database. The performance and throughput improvement may not be apparent at lower volumes,
but high volume applications could benefit from the direct update and insert operation, which does
not require the additional business logic to determine whether the records already exist.
The InsertOrUpdate method is a more costly operation than either the Insert or the Update method independently. We recommend that customers design their applications such that whenever possible they send the appropriate request (i.e. if your requests are user driven, then the user should be able to decide between creating a new record and updating an existing record, if they are batch driven then you may wish to store the CRM On Demand RowId value in your original data source to indicate that the record already exists in CRMOD, or use the ExternalSystemId as your user key (see below)).
Can I specify both on a single object and then the insert will fail if that object already exists and the update will execute?We do not recommend sending requests concurrently. If there is absolutely no way for you to know whether a record already exists in CRMOD, they you could start by performing an Insert request. If that request fails with an error that a record with identical values already exists, then you could issue an update request. Any other failure would be handled appropriately. Depending on whether the bulk of your operations are Inserts or Updates you should adjust your design accordingly (just reverse the order of the Insert and Update requests). One further point to note, in order to perform an update you need to be able to uniquely identify a record within CRM On Demand, if you are not already planning on using the <ExternalSystemId>, you should consider using this as the user key value for your update statements.
You do not need to perform a query to determine that the record already exists if you have a user key value available for the Update statement, simply perform the desired operation and handle the error within your code. To be clear though, I would recommend evaluating the design to see if it's possible to identify specific scenarios in which the Insert or Update request is appropriate instead of relying on InsertOrUpdate in all cases.
I hope this helps.
Thanks,
Sean

• ExternamSystemId identical values error when InsertOrUpdate Campaign Object

Hello,
My requirement is want to insert or update the values in Campaign object to linking with List object(its Child object of campaign)
I'm using CRMOD webservice InsertorUpdate method using proxy class.
Whenever i try to import the same data with different/same child object. Its throws the following error
For instance of Integration Component 'Campaign', using user key '[External System Id] = "1-7QH3N"', a record with identical values already exists in the Siebel database.
Please ensure that the field values in the input message are unique.(SBL-EAI-04381)
I'm getting this error when i was pass the same value for ExternamSystemId and Campain's SourceCode fields
eg: (ExternamSystemId = 1-7QH3N and SourceCode = 1-7QH3N )
is ExternamSystemId and SourceCode values should be different in Campaign object ??? if i pass different values or pass just 2 or 3 records per request then i didn't get any error. if i pass 20 records per request then it throw the above error.
Please give some advice for this issue
Thansk in advance

• Error while testing a webservice in http analyzer

Hi ADF Experts,
I am using 11.1.1.7.0 jdeveloper version.
My questions are:- Can we create a webservice proxy from a webservice which contain multiple schemas? If yes how?
While I separated the schemas into different filesystem and tried calling from wsdl. Also then I am getting the below error.
"The following invalid value had caused a oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLDOMException: invalid namespace for prefix ns1"
"The operation cannot be proceed"
Validating service
WARNING: src-resolve: Cannot resolve the name 'p4:OrderProposalMerchandiseCategoriesByStoreIDQueryMessage_sync' to a(n) 'type definition' component.

However in SoapUI, the wsdl has no namespace error.
Thanks for your valueable comments in advance,
Regards,
Sushant.

The following is not an error, but a WARNING.

• Error while calling webservice on ECC 5.0

Hi
I have a webservice exposed on a ECC5.0 - the webservice is available for runtime.
But when I call it with a single input parameter - from a test SOAP test client- I get the following error as the SOAP response
What could this be/mean ? Please help.
<soap-env:Envelope xmlns:soap-env="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">
<soap-env:Body>
<soap-env:Fault>
<faultcode>soap-env:Server</faultcode>
<faultstring xml:lang="en">Error during XML => ABAP conversion (; error ID: ; ( ))</faultstring>
</soap-env:Fault>
</soap-env:Body>
</soap-env:Envelope>

Means theres an error in XML/ABAP conversion probably due a syntax error...
Regards
Juan

• Error while calling a webservice on ECC 5.0 box

Hi
I have a webservice exposed on a ECC5.0 - the webservice is available for runtime.
But when I call it with a single input parameter - from a test SOAP test - I get the following error as the SOAP response
What could this be/mean ? Please help.
<soap-env:Envelope xmlns:soap-env="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">
<soap-env:Body>
<soap-env:Fault>
<faultcode>soap-env:Server</faultcode>
<faultstring xml:lang="en">Error during XML => ABAP conversion (; error ID: ; ( ))</faultstring>
</soap-env:Fault>
</soap-env:Body>
</soap-env:Envelope>

Means theres an error in XML/ABAP conversion probably due a syntax error...

• WS Policy error while invoking a webservice

Hi All,
I am able to sucessfully invoke a SOA webservice with WS security policy 'oracle/wss_http_token_service_policy' enabled.
But when I call a SOA webservice which inturn calls another SOA webservice(with both having the above WS policy),
the security header is not passed and hence authentication fails with error 'Unable to access WSDL'
The components i am using in my composites are Mediator, BPEL , DBadapter.
Kindly advice.

• Error while invoking a webservice using Axis deployed in tomacat from Bpel

Hi,
I am trying to invoke a Axis webservice(from Java class to WSDL- bottom up java bean webservice approach) developed in Exclipse IDE, deployed in Tomcat.
When i am trying to invoke the service, from Bpel from Jdeveloper it is throwing error as such :

</messages>
I may add that, the WSDL generated is using "soap:enc:array ", rpc style.
Can anyone tell me the reason and suggest .

Hi Marc,
Thanks for the guidancer. But sir, i am unable to detect at which place i have to do the required changes.I found p_request as a parameter in the method only in the interface only.
As bcos ultimately , i am generating the tomcat /axis web service (WSDL) from the java class, which is using 2 Request and response java bean, in which they are doing someing like this:
private static org.apache.axis.description.TypeDesc typeDesc =
new org.apache.axis.description.TypeDesc(LoanDataPersistRequest.class, true);
static {
typeDesc.setXmlType(new javax.xml.namespace.QName("http://dtos.demo.com", "LoanDataPersistRequest"));
org.apache.axis.description.ElementDesc elemField = new org.apache.axis.description.ElementDesc();
elemField.setFieldName("customerName");
elemField.setXmlName(new javax.xml.namespace.QName("", "customerName"));
elemField.setXmlType(new javax.xml.namespace.QName("", "string"));
elemField.setNillable(true);
etc etc...................}
And second thing is when the WSDL is generated, from that the stubs and skeletons is generated to test the service.
There in the Stub i found out "p_request" in this place:
private static void _initOperationDesc1(){
org.apache.axis.description.OperationDesc oper;
org.apache.axis.description.ParameterDesc param;
oper = new org.apache.axis.description.OperationDesc();
oper.setName("storeLoanData");
param = new org.apache.axis.description.ParameterDesc(*new javax.xml.namespace.QName("", "p_request")*, org.apache.axis.description.ParameterDesc.IN, new javax.xml.namespace.QName("http://dtos.demo.com", "LoanDataPersistRequest"), com.demo.dtos.LoanDataPersistRequest.class, false, false);
oper.addParameter(param);
oper.setReturnType(new javax.xml.namespace.QName("http://dtos.demo.com", "LoanDataPersistResponse"));
oper.setReturnClass(com.demo.dtos.LoanDataPersistResponse.class);
oper.setReturnQName(new javax.xml.namespace.QName("", "storeLoanDataReturn"));
oper.setStyle(org.apache.axis.constants.Style.RPC);
oper.setUse(org.apache.axis.constants.Use.ENCODED);
_operations[0] = oper;
And in skeleton :
static {
org.apache.axis.description.OperationDesc _oper;
org.apache.axis.description.FaultDesc _fault;
org.apache.axis.description.ParameterDesc [] _params;
_params = new org.apache.axis.description.ParameterDesc [] {
new org.apache.axis.description.ParameterDesc(*new javax.xml.namespace.QName("", "p_request")*, org.apache.axis.description.ParameterDesc.IN, new javax.xml.namespace.QName("http://dtos.demo.com", "LoanDataPersistRequest"), com.demo.dtos.LoanDataPersistRequest.class, false, false),
oper = new org.apache.axis.description.OperationDesc("storeLoanData", params, new javax.xml.namespace.QName("", "storeLoanDataReturn"));
_oper.setReturnType(new javax.xml.namespace.QName("http://dtos.demo.com", "LoanDataPersistResponse"));
_oper.setElementQName(new javax.xml.namespace.QName("urn:com.demo.service", "storeLoanData"));
_oper.setSoapAction("");
myOperationsList.add(oper);
if (_myOperations.get("storeLoanData") == null) {
_myOperations.put("storeLoanData", new java.util.ArrayList());
((java.util.List)_myOperations.get("storeLoanData")).add(_oper);
PLease suggest if i make some changes in stub and skeleton how it would reflect the WSDL... or else please suggest where shud i do the required changes.

• Error while transporting webservice datasources

Hi all,
I have created webservice datasources to fetch EP data to BW. and now i am transporting that Datasources from DEV to QA. I have colllected datasources alone in one req. (source system i have created in QA manually and i mapped that with DEV)
But while transporting i am getting the folllowing error,
3S3T Start of the after-import method RS_RSDS_AFTER_IMPORT for object type(s) RSDS (Activation Mode)
Error Screen output without connection to user .
Error when activating DataSource ZANS_MASTER BI7001
Please through some light is there any predefined settings i need to do in QA system?.
Thanks in advance,
V.Sen

Dear All,
Thanks for your kind reply.
There are no R/3 Datasources involved. Our BI Cockpit landscape is based upon only BI system. No data transfer to take place between R/3 and BI.
Secondly, you mean to say that I need to replicate my Source system in Production and then proceed with the transporting of the requests from Dev to Prod.
But I never did the same in Quality while transporting from Dev. Is it that it might have been done in Quality beforehand by someone ?
Also, when the Datasources have not been transported to Production (resulting in error) then how can i replicate these datasources in Production ???
Let me know if I have not understood correctly.
Many thanks again for your efforts.
/Shalabh

did you registered the web service in the external service registration? The "DataAccessException:" is a hint to this issue.
