2.0Ghz MacBook owners - how noisy is it?

Hi,
to the guys who already have theirs, I'd like to know how noisy it is...
Does the fan run often, or constantly? Is it a noisy fan?
Is there any whine like on the idling MacBook Pro?
Or, is it as quiet as the G4 Mac Mini (absolutely silent apart from the Harddisk sounds)?

My machine is very quiet. I've not heard any loud noises from my HD. When the fan comes on it sounds like a normal fan cooling down the computer to me. So far I'm very pleased with everything about my MB!!

How come we can't order the Backlit keyboard on the baseline (2.0Ghz) MacBook?
I mean I'd be willing to pay a little more for that option.
I find it extremely disappointing that it would cost me $350 more to get the backlit keyboard (where I won't be using the power the higher end MacBook has).

I agree - but this was an obvious MISTAKE on Apple's website, and not intentional.
Other country sites (Apple German site for example) had it correct all the way. The US store was just faulty. They have fixed that overnight. I would argue, you get good stuff for the extra $300 other than the backlighting, and I assume that investment will carry you a few years. In which case I'd call and have them upgrade your order to the higher end one. If you are nice, they might give you a discount, if you explain the situation (quite common).

Future Macbook owner. Need advice.

Hey guys. I'm a graphic designer who uses all of the Adobe programs including Flash. I want to buy the blackbook and put in the 2gig memory, with the 120hd. Should I wait for the core 2 duo or should I just go to the store now and get MB? I don't want to wait too long, I just need some advice on what to do, since most of you here know more about Apple. Also has anyone have any experience in running the design programs on a macbook? How do they run?

I totally agree. Get the MBP right away. You won't be sorry. I just upgraded from a MacBook to a MBP and love it. It boots faster (under 30 sec.) than my MacBook with a 7200RPM drive in it. The screen is larger and much better quality, along with the sound. It's also quieter and runs cooler to the touch than my MacBook.
Don't get me wrong, the MacBook is a great computer, but the thing that bothered me the most about it, was the graphics circuit sharing memory. If I started doing something graphic intense, the fan would start ramping up. One 3-D app I have causes the fan to run wide open all the time. The MBP is almost totally silent.
BTW..you can get an education discounted MBP for as little as $1799.00--and that includes 1G RAM and a 120 GB hard drive.

How noisy is the Mac Pro - say compared to an iMac?

Hello Pagemakers2,
First,I doubt you'll get a definitive answer to this kind of question because there's significant variability in the "intensity of use" among Mac Pro owners. I mean of course, some users need to run apps and process file types which naturally require more cooling of hard-running cpus and that will cause more fan noise.
I'm almost embarrassed to admit: the most "intense" task my Mac Pro handles (video encoding) uses only about 65% of processing capacity. So... I never hear the fans at all, the Mac Pro does not even put out "warm air" from the exhaust ports. I work in a quiet environment (home) where, sometimes, I have to play music on iTunes or at least turn on the tv in the next room - just to have a little background noise. Meanwhile, the fan in my eMac can be heard when I wake it from sleep - but never unpleasantly.
I'm pretty sure most users will agree: when idling (surfing the web, even running filters on big digital files with Photoshop™) the Mac Pro is pretty quiet.
Oh, another factor to consider is: Whether or not you run heavy apps with a heavy work load "continuously." I mean for example: running those video conversions may take a few minutes on the Mac Pro (Intel). But I may run one file to burn to DVD on any given day. (On average, less than once a day.)
Burning: the original Sony OPTIARC drive which came factory installed made "moderate noise" (for about 2-3 minutes of burn time) but the noise was "annoying." I replaced that with (eventually) two Samsung units: these both make audible noise, but it seems less and certainly doesn't annoy me like the Sony unit did.
Just to be clear: I didn't replace the Sony drive due to noise, I did so because that model didn't (1) handle DVD-DL and (2) I wanted DVD drives which provide the Lightscribe disk labeling software. The "more pleasant sound" was a bonus.

I ahve this problem too, my macbook is set up as an imap account for gmail, say I get an email and it shows as new in my gmail, iphone and macbook, and I then read it in my gmail, it is marked read on my iphone but stays as unread on my macbook.
This is really annoying as if I read emails during the day on another computer I can come back to them all being new on the macbook.
Is there a fix for this?

The cheap & easy way is to just drag the app to the Trash.
If you want to get all of the associated files use an app deleting app like the free AppCleaner;

Just drag an app and drop it on the AppCleaner icon in the Dock and it will find and present to you all the files it thinks are associated with the app. You can uncheck any that you want to keep and then let AppCleaner Trash the rest.

With windows you would go to : File/Add To Library, and iTunes would add all your selected files to your music library BUT WOULD NOT COPY THEM TO YOUR HARD DRIVE. In other words, if the external hard drive was connected, you could listen, drag/drop, and edit the files. When I tried the same thing with my new MacBook... it actually started coping the files to my MacBook harddrive. I don't want that, it's millions and millions of mp3's that I don't want to keep on my computer, only my external hard drive. Can anyone help? They can't. Which came first - the chicken or the egg? Actually, that's a bad comparison but a sync must come first.
The library is actually part of iTunes and it contains everything. iTunes is then configured so that you (or they) determine which portion of everything will be synced to each iPod (identified by a unique name, see below for an example of an iPod and an iPad). iTunes can't make that decision until AFTER it knows which iPods exist.
By the way, I (you, they) can very easily change the name of each device to whatever I (you, they) wish to call it.

Runnig 10.6.8 on a MacBook PRO.....

The easiest fix if you're running Snow Leopard is to export all your contacts, then import them into something like google (I already had a gmail account), and then just use google to sync your contacts instead of icloud (via the sync with Google button in the address book settings).
Its a bit sluggish to update, but it works well. You can then point your iphone, and other iOS devices to use google for contacts too.
If Apple don't want to look after their customers, other companies will gladly do so....

Take it back where you got and and get your money back.
As has been pointed out, if there was a "previous owner", the phone is not "new". Thephone you purchased is most likely stolen. If whoever you bought it from won't give you your money back, turn it over to the police.
