2.1 and Adjustment Brush Prob Return

Ironically, after having fixed adjustment brush lag and slider sluggishness by maximizing performance in the Nvidia 3d settings, installing 2.1 has caused the problem to return.
The problem was completely resolved before. I could rapidly paint large areas of D300 images with repeated strokes, or with one extended very rapid uninterrupted stroke back and forth across an area stretching from side to side and representing about one third of the screen.
Before upgrading there was absolutely no lag or subsequent sluggishness in the amount slider no matter how hard I tried to induce it. Now, the slider sluggishness is as bad as before.
I have tested this by resetting half a dozen of the same images that I worked the brush on prior to the upgrade to RC 2.1 and performing the same actions with the brush as described above. I have 2.0 installed on the other side of my dual boot windows Intel 9550 Quad and there is no lag on that side with the same images and adjustment brush use described above.
There is no doubt that the problem is back.
Has anyone who had 2.0 adjustment brush problems tested 2.1 yet?

LR2.1 not stable for me. XPS630, 4G, XP Pro, nVidia 8600,
LR 2 worked fine.
Adjustment brush (using Wacom or mouse) doesn't lift reliably and leaves streaks.
Brush at times will activate zoom instead of painting an adjustment.
Brush won't stop editing session - can't start new brush - no edit control point for previous adjustment brushes
Have restarted LR2.1 numerous times, rebooted, etc.
I'm going back to 2.0 tomorrow.

  • Lightroom 4 - Spot removal and adjustment brush issues

In Lightroom 4, my spot removal and adjustment brush tools will not work on all areas of photos (in particular faces and the center of photos). The cursor seems to show the tool only on the outside portions of the photo.  Any suggestions?

I have seen this a couple time and a restart of Lr has always fixed it.  It seems like there is some kine of dialog box waiting for input "hidden" behind Lr as it its not there if you minimize Lr.  This has been reported many times for a LONG time so it is probably one of the Lr bugs that is not getting fixed.  To be fair to Adobe, if someone could reproduce this problem it might get fixed but it seems to be pretty obscure.  BTW, I think Ihave seen reports of it in Lr5 also so hopefully it will get fixed in Lr 6

  • Graduated filter and Adjustment brush always use "last used effect"

In my workfow I mostly use opposite effects in the Graduated filter and Adjustment brush.
Lightroom maintains "least used effect" even when changing tools.
Is it possible that each tool retains its last used effect?
In my workflow I mostly use opposite effects when using Adjustment brush en gradient filter. Changing the effects wastes a lot of time when editing hundreds of images.

I agree that it would be nice if the individual tools remembered their own last used preset.
Unfortunately LR does not work that way.

  • First experiences with LR 5.0: manual file selection and  Adjustment Brush

I must admit that I have not fiddled too long with LR 5.0. The reason is quite simple: its extreme slowness, even in comparison with 4.4, which is far from being fast. After slightly retouching some 40 images I fell back to 4.4 and finished testing 5.5 for a while. Anyway, in addition to the speed problem I have collected some - also not too promising - experiences:
After initially retouching the first image I wanted to copy some of its settings into the rest of the photos. Before clicking on the Sync button I had to select all the target files. Probably because of the relatively small number of images, instead of going to the "Edit / Select All" function I used "Shift+Right Arrow" for the selection. LR simply crashed...
In several cases I was not able to re-open and modify formerly 'adjustment-brushed' areas. When I moved the cursor above the relevant white 'knob-shaped' mark, nothing happened. The cursor did not even change to hand form, so the "Effect" panel remained dark and the formerly set parameters did not come up. As I kept the cursor there for ages and the image was not 'over-adjusted' (as also indicated by the small size of the associated XMP file), this failure was surely not a result of the above-referred slowness.
Once I selected an already retouched image, with the Adjustment Brush tool open. The existing adjustment mark came up over a formerly brushed area. Then, without doing anything with the open image, I moved to the next picture. To my surprise, the Adjustment Brush marks of both photos appeared on the last opened image - the one, which belonged to the previous picture and another, associated with the second picture. It goes without saying that I was not able to click on any of the Adjustment Brush marks. Closing and re-opening the Adjustment Brush tool did not help, so I had to restart LR.

  • Issue with Clone Tool and Adjustment Brush in LR5.3

If I export a .TIFF from LR5.3 in which I've used the Clone Tool or Adjustment Brush Tool and then load the .TIFF up in Photoshop CS2 to perform further edits, I can't save the file to a .JPG - I get a '...program error...' message during the save.  If I turn off the tool and export the file from LR5 again, I can do the edits in Photoshop and save it as a .jpg.  The same thing will happen in Capture NX2 trying to save the LR5 exported .TIFF to .JPG.    Has anyone else experienced this and are there any workarounds?

    ***UPDATE*** 3/7/14
Apparently no one has experienced the issue as I posted above, but in case anyone is interested, I have discovered a workaround.  For some reason, the issue manifests itself when I export the TIFF with the option 'Metadata - Include All Metadata'.  If I change the Metadata option to the 'Copyright Only' or 'Copyright & Contact Info Only' I am able to open the TIFF in Photoshop, make edits as needed, and then save as a JPG.  Apparently LR5 is doing something weird with the Metadata file header that Photoshop and Capture NX2 doesn't like under certain circumstances.

  • Accept/Reject changes and Adjustment Brush Buttons have disappeared

The buttons that appear at the bottom of the Development Panel when using the Adjustment Brush, Crop Tool, GND Filter, etc., have STOPPED appearing on my version.  I can accept the changes by clicking on the Brush, ND filter, etc, but have no way to reject the changes other than going back in the history.  Also, the button that shows the Adjustment Brush as a "painted" area has disappeared with the rest, and so I can never specifically see the area I'm attempting to work on.  I thought perhaps I did something that hid or disabled these buttons, but I cannot find any such action.  Any ideas on this?  Thanks for any help.

  • Name gradients and adjustment brushes

Is there a chance we will get the possibility to give each adjustment brush and gradients a name?
The way it is now it is pretty confusing when using more than one.
    Like:
    Gradient1: Horizon
    Gradient2: Colour
    Adjustment Brush1: Eyes
    Adjustment Brush2: Teeth
    ect....
    TIA
    Joe

Just wanted to quote John Miller from this link
It had never even occurred to me to be able to name the pins! BRILLIANT! And SO easy to implement!
Adobe, I can't think of a reason why at least this aspect couldn't make it into LR4 Final. Particularly since we have to do so much layering and stacking of different adjustment brushes and gradients to accomplish what we really want to with this tool. The ability to label these adjustments for future reference would really help.
I find it shocking that something so obvious isn't even taken into consideration by Adobe officials (not to mention any kind of response to this). :-(

  • Lens corrections and adjustment brush bug

First of all, congratulations for a spectacular implementation of these seemingly "conflicting" (at least in a non-destructive workflow) features.
Here, I got a fish-eye image where I want to paint the sky (say I want to make it darker). For the beginning, I just define the borderline between the earth and the sky.
Apply a lens correction and you get this:
Fantastic! The brush stroke got distorted almost perfectly. "Almost", because if you make a single brush click, painting a circle, it doesn't get distorted with lens corrections, turning into an ellipse (though the spot removal circles do). Instead all brush path point coordinates get recalculated along with the radius of the brush at each particular location. This works very well in real world even for extreme examples like de-fisheyeing. For rectilinear lenses, the difference is imperceptible.
    And now, some bugs/limitations.
If you use a large brush, say I want to fill the whole sky in this example, things get a little more complicated.
    Turn on lens corrections and...
The thick stroke gets distorted in a way that fill almost the entire image. This happens on extreme debarreling only. For normal lenses, it's a non-issue.
Also, sometimes I get a strange artifact in preview only. The exported image doesn't have this solid rectangle:
And a final, smaller, issue: for strong corrections like de-fisheye-ing, the brush pin easily gets lost outside the image area after you apply lens corrections.

While we do the best we can mapping the local corrections, it is not perfect if you adjust the lens corrections after applying them, as you can see in some of your extreme examples.
In the future, when processing new images, if you apply the lens corrections first, and then the local corrections, you completely avoid these remapping issues.

  • Increments Of 100 With Grad Filter and Adj Brush Using Scroll Wheel and Arrows

For Vista 64 bit and Nvidia GeForce 8500 GT driver version 7.15.11.6960,
both the graduated filter and adjustment brush change at increments of 100 or 200 using the scroll wheel or arrows for everything except exposure. Brightness goes from -200 to 0 to 200 while the others go from -100 to 0 to 100.

Seen that as well. Keyboard focus has been an issue for me on Vista x64 OS for quite sometime.Sometimes the arrows don't move in even increments on all the sliders for various adjustments.
In this case the arrow keys move either side of 0 to the maximum exent of the range. In this case brightness has a range of + or - 200 while the other sliders move = or - 100

  • HELP! Lightroom Crashes Only with Adjustment Brush and only when using HDMI output!

This is very frustrating. I use my Acer N56V laptop to teach Lightroom workshops. I use a 32 inch television as a display. When I have my laptop attached with an HDMI cable and try to use Lightroom's adjustment brush, it crashes. Either the screen and computer just shuts down or I get the Blue Screen of Death. I can do anything else! I can edit in Photoshop, do anything else in Lightroom or even Silver EFX Pro. I can even click on the adjustment brush. But the minute the brush hits the photo (and not before), the computer crashes. If I don't have it attached to the HDMI or if I use a Serial cable, no issues. It's only the adjustment brush and only the HDMI output.
I called Adobe and they said it was because my onboard video card was primary and not the Nvidia. I called Acer and they said it's auto detect. I also tried making the Nvidia card primary and it still happened. Any ideas???

You have switched the overlay mask to always show. Fortunately, it's easy fixed i.e. tap the O key. Shift+O will cycle the overlay through various colours

    Open Gradient Tool - M
    Show/hide Pin - H
    Always Show - Shift + Cmd/Ctrl+H
    Show Selected/Never Show - Shift+H
To increase Amount - Right Arrow
To decrease Amount - Left Arrow
    To increase/decrease brush size -  ] / [
    To increase/decrease feather - Shift+] / Shift+[
Set Flow Amount - Number Keys
To commit  and/or start new a brush stroke or gradient - Enter / Return
To delete the selected pin - Delete
Holding down - Alt/Option key activates erase mode
    Toggle Auto Mask On/Off - A
Pressing O toggles on/off the overlay
Shift+O cylces through alternative colours for overlay

  • How do I use the adjustment brush to mask and not turn my item green?

I have shot some products for my web site.  I need completely white backgrounds. I have tried to mask the product and lighten the whites, but when I click done, my product has turned very green.
Why?  How do you use the brush?  Also, where is the invert to make this easier on me?
Kind of urgent, I need to get these items on my site already.
I know the answer is simple... I just don't know what it is.
    Thanks

Have you tried without the adjustment brush, by simply adjusting white balance from the basic tab in develop?
Click on the eye dropper tool and then click on a neutral gray color. Use the background if it is neutral rather than white. You may need to keep selecting the eye dropper to click in a few different places for best results.
If you decide to use the adjustment brush you can show or hide the mask. Uncheck the mask when you have finished painting; then use the sliders, starting with tint and temperature.

  • Lightroom 5 What is the Color box for in the adjustment brush and filters

    Hi
I am running Lightroom 5.6 although I think this has been around probably from 4.In the Basic Development module when I select the Adjustment brush, Radial filter or Graduated filter then below Defringe I get a box marked Color. What does this box do.

Thanks for the quick reply. This is what I expected but it does not do it very well. For example If I have a light blue background and select 100% Blue in the Color box I would expect it to increase the blue but it does not really do this.
