2.1 Update Killed my iPhone

Installed iTunes 8.0 first. Plugged the iPhone in and selected the option to download and install the 2.1 update.
Now the phone is bricked. Get this message in iTunes:
"The iPhone ... cannot be used with itunes because the information required for activation could not be obtained from the iphone. Check that the SIM card is inserted in your iPhone and that it is not PIN-locked."
Please help. Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks

Clever solution! I didn't know how to solve this upgrade problem and I was about to take my phone to the O2 shop. I bet they would have said they need to send it away to be repaired for 2 weeks. Saved me lots of trouble!
Thanks

  • 5.1 update killed my iphone

My brand new 3 day old iPhone has pestered me into updating to the 5.1. So I finally gave in and now it won't work at all. I've tried to do the reset, restore and it will not work. All the screen shows is the cable plugging into the iTunes logo... when i plug in the phone to my Macbook, it says that it's detected an iPhone in recovery mode. It must be restored before it can be used with iTunes. any ideas.  I just got the phone thursday, today is saturday and now i have a nice new phone that is as useful as a brick!!!

It is under warranty. Make an appointment and take it to an Apple Genius at an Apple Store.

  • Updating killed my iphone

I wanted to update to 2.0, so i downloaded the software and tried to install it. It got almost all the way done and encountered an an error. Don't really remember what it said other than i needed to restore my phone. That didn't work either. My phone will not even work. When i turn it on it shows the symbols to connect to itunes. When i plug it into the computer and open itunes it says...
iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes. I hit restore and then select restore and update. It goes through the process of prepairing the phone for restore. Then, prepairs the software for restore. The apple comes on the phone and it starts thinking or working. Then, it says...restoring iPhone software. The progress bar gets toward the end and then an error occurs. "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error has occurred (6)."
I have the lastest updates for iPhone and iTunes and don't know what to do to fix it. If you know anything....PLEASE HELP ME!!!

  • 3.1 Update Killed my iPhone

After downloading and updating to 3.1 my phone began the "restore" process of installing the new OS software but before it finished I received an error message in iTunes that it couldn't be completed leaving my iPhone in the restore necessary mode where it simply shows the USB and an arrow to iTunes indicating that it needs to connect to iTunes.
However, when I connect my phone iTunes fails to recognize the iPhone and I don't know how to move my phone past the "connect to iTunes" phase.
Any ideas on how to force iTunes to recognize my phone and restore it?

  • 4.1 update kills my iphone 4

it just crashed during install iwth a 3014 or something error code and now i have to restore and hope it made a backup. great.

Mostly gained by what has been proven in courts throughout the world by illegal means and for their blatant copying efforts which is the only thing they do is copy, they settled out of court with Apple for their illegal copying of Apple's GUI.
Of course the bozos in charge of buying computers will purchase the cheapest they can acquire along with the OS that is written for the lowest common denominator and the outfit that keeps them and as many of their kind employed. Microslop has cost companies and individuals in the billions in extra expenses and additional costs which continues year, after year, after year to keep that garbage swiss cheese for security operating system which is nothing but an upside down and backwards copy of the work of others running.

  • I have an iPhone 4S with Sprint, I had to replace my last phone after the newest update killed my wifi button. Now my new phone won't get 3G at all. I have tried turning my phone off/on, resetting my networks, and turning airplane mode off and on.

I have an iPhone 4S with sprint. I had to replace my phone after the new update killed my wifi button and wouldn't let me turn my phone off. Since I've had my new phone, I haven't been getting 3G. I have tried resetting my networks, Turing airplane mode off/on and restarting my phone. Nothing seems to work. Any info on what I should do next would be great.

If you have set this phone up, then there would not necessarily be a solution here until you have been verify with the provider that everything is provisioned correctly on their end. Since the 3G comes from your cellular provider, if the settings are correct on the phone, then you should work with the carrier next.

  • 8.1.3 update killed my wifi

Ok, my iPhone 4S worked fine on 8.1.2. After today's update to 8.1.3, my wifi is no longer working. The wifi button under setting is grayed out and disabled!!!
I have done a complete restore from iTunes and set it up as a new iPhone - wifi disabled and grayed out.
Restored from my backup - same thing, wifi disabled and button grayed out.
So now I have a iPhone 4S with no wifi.
Apple OS updates really ***** these days.
Anyone has the same experience with the 8.1.3 update on an iPhone 4S? Suggestions on how to fix it?

    Frank0904 wrote:
Thank you all guys. I finally get it to work.
I believe that it is a software issue. Right before the 8.1.3 update, wifi is working perfectly. I put it on the table and started the update. Afterwards, the wifi went dead. The phone was sitting on a table and plugged in. So nothing could have kill the wifi. I don't believe in coincidents, my wifi chip decided to go bonkers right after I do a software update? good try Apple. You screwed up the update, so just admit it.
I read about the so called 'reflowing' the wifi chip. I don't believe heat from a blow dryer can 'reflow' anything. I gave it a try anyway, no help.
Finally, I turn on the airplane mode, then do a phone reset (home + sleep button for 10secs). Upon rebooting, I turned off airplane mode and the wifi button is enabled again. Just like that.
I hope this can help others who have experienced the same issue.
So, in other words, what you did was essentially reset the connection for the wi-fi, just like the article advised.  If it was the iOS, that wouldn't have fixed it.  It was some sort of setting issue.
The iOS cannot cause the wi-fi to gray out permanently.  It doesn't work that way.

  • I would like to be able to download updates for my Iphone and Ipad on my work computer but my home computer has all of my music on Itunes.  How do i downlaod updates at work without deleting all of the music which is stored on my home computer/Itunes?

I would like to be able to download software updates on my Iphone and Ipad at work without erasing my music.  My home computer/Itunes has all of my music saved.  is there a way to use two computers w/o erasing information?  Or can i transfer the music from my Iphone to my work computer?

    - An iPod can only sync with one iTunes library. Yu can however manage music and videos among different computers by:
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers
    - To change syncing computer, move all the media to compute r#2
    - Connect the iPod to #2 and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
Note tha the iPod backup the iTunes makes does not include synced media like apps and music.

I did the update to my iPhone 4 and I loose my voice memos how can I recover them?

Once it's in recovery mode, everything on the phone is already gone.  If you've been backing it up and syncing on a regular basis, it should restore just fine.

Are you positive you're using the exact Apple ID to update these apps that was used to originally ontain them? You can verify such by right-clicking one the apps, in your iTunes library, & selecting "Get Info". This will show you the Apple ID used to originally obtain the app...does it match on your phone?

Since the iOS7.0.2 update to my iPhone 4S, I can no longer choose use of my Bluetooth device if using the power cord to listen to MUSIC or answer my phone (choice of powercord as 'dock,' speaker, & phone only).  Was this former-feature now an oversight??  I'd really appreciate having my Bluetooth once again listed as a choice of  audio option.  Especially considering the battery life is not what it was prior to this update, and requires recharging often.

Sorry to tell you but unless you have a Retail Apple Store close by, they are the only ones I have found with all the adapters and accessories. I bought an extra lightning to usb adapter the other day to use in my truck. Good luck....
