2.10.03 Firmware for Zen Xtra: Is software interface differe

My firmware update worked perfectly and I can drag and drop from Windows Explorer to my unit. However, now I can't access my music with the same options I had before. Is this all there is? Do I now have to wait until a new firmware is designed without this omission? Has anybody updated their firmware successfully, with a unit that is working normally, and now they are dissatisfied with the new interface and the lack of options to search for music on their player? If so, is there any fix?
Please help if you have anything to offer, I'm desperate.

Thanks Chainsaw,
What I meant was, is the software interface within the Zen Xtra unit different. I have already installed the new Creative Explorer version. When I try to access my music now an example would be: I go into my music library, scroll down to Genres and select that, then scroll to R&Band select that; now, is where my new problem begins. Instead of offering me the option to View Artists within my R&B collection, I'm only given the option to Open the R&B file where it then displays all of my albums alphabetically or all of the individual songs (in the entire R&B collection) alphabetically. Before, I could search the Genres by Artist and then album. Now in order to search by Artist I have to search for an artist by searching through a file containing every artist, in every genre on my player. This is way too cumbersome and I'm very sorry that I updated the firmware now.
Incidentally, my son just bought the Zen Touch 20GB and we downloaded the 2..0 firmware on his player. It seems to be working fine with dragging and dropping files from Windows Explorer (Media Center 2005). The firmware on his unit has a proper filing system like I had before.
This is just a thought......what would happen if I tried to load the Zen Touch Firmware 2..0 onto my Jukebox Zen Xtra to replace the 2.0.03. Just wondering. It is a later release so it might take. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • How does someone become a beta tester for Zen Xtra Firmware

I have a lot of experience in Hardware/Software integration and am interested in becoming a beta tester for Zen Xtra firmware. Is there someone that a mod could put me in touch with to pursue this oppertunity?
    Thx in Advance

There is a beta programme, but I'm not sure how you apply to be a tester.
At a guess Creative pick people they know, or if they need to recruit they'll post on the forum.

  • Firmware Update 2.10.03 for Zen Xtra and Yahoo! Music Unlimi

Right now I am having trouble with putting tracks on my Zen Xtra from a Yahoo! Music Unlimited account. I believed that Yahoo's music services were accepted by the Zen Xtras, but I'm not so sure now. I downloaded the latest firmware for my Xtra (2.0.03), and supposedly that is supposed to upgrade the player's Playforsure capabilities, including allowing it to accept subscription-based-tracks from music services. However, when I went to take the tracks from the Yahoo Music Jukebox it said that the device or the device firmware is "not subscription-music compatible". I went on Yahoo music's website and it said that Zen Xtra is one of the players that is supported but I was wondering if anyone else with an Xtra had any trouble with Yahoo's Music Unlimited. I would appreciate any help you can give me.

  • Firmware update for Zen Xtra, a simple quest

    Hello,
I have purchased my zen xtra on July. It works just fine. When i go to "about" in the menu to see the player's version it says .03.02. I don't know if i need to upgrade the firmware because nomad's page for upgrade provides a firmware with same number: Creative NOMAD Zen Xtra firmware update version .03.02
Does it mean i already have the latest firmware version in my player or do i still have to upgrade it's
    Thanks!
    Al

    Alrichi,
If your player already showing the exact same firmware version as with the download then you would already have the same firmware version. You do not need to update again.

  • Problems with firmware 2.10.03 upgrade for Zen xtra 3

Recently I attempted to upgrade the firmware on my Zen Xtra and the upgrade failed and I was unable to turn the unit back on. I send the unit into Creative and was advised that the player has no power and that it needs to be replaced for $95.00. I am not clear how I went from a working unit to this condition by attempting a firmware update. Does anyone have a similar experience?

just had exactly the same thing happen. Started to load the new firmware and player stopped dead, tried everything recommended, reboots, change battery, delete/rebuild USB drivers. Nothing. Talked to Creative and got RMA and the Test Results as of tonight was "No Power with Battery" Waiting to hear what that means. The player was fine it was their software that was bad.

  • How about a status update on mtu for zen xtra--i want napster to

    hey creative,
any word on the update for mtu support for the xtra? napster is announcing the official release of napster to go, but as it currently stands, you can only use it on the micro, not the touch or the xtra. for a number of months we have been hearing that the release was just around the corner....any update?

    To whom it may concern,
I am replying to a post from 2004 about Napster to go compatibility with the Nomad Zen Xtra 40gb.
I have to say I am very upset that on July 8th, 2005 I bought the Zen Xtra 40gb after seeing THAT day that the Napster to go Service will be available soon from Creative. <This is on the NTG web page>
I went to Best Buy, and bought the Zen...and today am pissed off to find that the firmware upgrade that is "Coming soon" was announced as far back as 2004!!
This is REALLY upsetting and I am considering returning the Zen for an I-Ri'ver.
Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Zen xtra 40gb to death.. and don't want to give it up.. but the Napster to go Service is way too tempting and was a major decision when I bought the Zen Xtra.
So, any news on the firmware? Is it ever coming? Or do I return my player?
    Thanks!

  • Petition: PlayForSure/MTP firmware for Zen 2

    Hi folks,
Rather than leaving this relati'vely new player in the cold, I'm sure folks would like to see a PlayForSure/MTP firmware for it.
    So what do you think?

bonus_uk wrote:There's even a sticky thread for it at the top of this forum with links to the firmware. Just thought you might want to know and be warned the firmware update wipes the sleek hard dri've, so back up anything you don't want to lose :-).
We're not talking about the Sleek, this is the Zen 20Gb.

It maybe considered new to non Asian countries but in Spore, Zen 20GB is considered a old model as compared to Zen Vision and Zen Vision:M
It's still relati'vely new though, compared to players like the Touch and Xtra.
Very often I wonder about creative marketing strategy. Why issit some models are released predominantly in say Asia Pacific region and some in the US and Europe and not in Asia Pacific or vice versa?
Any idea why? Different models developed in different countries? I understand besides the development labs in Spore, creative has some development labs elsewhere and this result in different model releasing at different time?
I'm not sure that players are developed outside of Singapore. It does seem that Singapore has some different ideas to what folks are used to in Europe and the USA, in terms of releasing a consistent and stable range of players. Also releasing players to fix bugs in earlier players is not considered good form in Europe and the USA.
I think each region has very clear control over what they release, hence the variation.

  • Where to get latest firmware for Zen Xt

I have a 40GB Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra with firmware version .20.08, which recently has been giving me "Firmware Problem" errors. I used to use AutoUpdate to get the latest firmware, but it no longer supports this device. I also don't see it in the list of devices on the suppport site. It's considered "End of Life" so I can't ask email Creative directly about it. What a pain.
I tried the Zen NX (closest thing on the site to a Zen Xtra) driver .0, but when I run it it gives me an error saying "You cannot use this firmware upgrade for your player. Please download a suitable firmware upgrade."
Does anyone know whre I can find the latest firmware Otherwise, I guess it's time to buy an iPod...

You should be aware that there are signifficant changes with upgrading ( or more apropiatly) changing your firmware version from one starting with a point somehting to a two point somehting firmware, and i would only advise you do it if you realy need to ( ie you need it to work on a windows Vista P.C)
there is a .30.somehting firmware for that player somewhere ( i think) that shouldnt be such a huge change.
goign to a 2.something firmware will:
make the Zen Xtra an MTP device that you can drag n drop stuff to, and it will also help intergrate it with other programmes such as widnows media player on p.cs that dont have the drivers ( i think)?
during the update process ( if it doesnt brick your Zen) everything on you hard dik will be completly wiped, all mucis, playlists and anny other files that you have stored on your player.
?As? with all firmware updates you should make sure that the battery is fully charged and the player is conected to the mains charger.
Updating toa ver2.something firmware is only possible on a windopws XP machine, and that XP P.C must be checked to make sure its is free from windows media player and windows media player runtim, you need to go to the control panel and select remove? on WMP then roll it back to windows media player 0, re-boot your XP p.c, then go back to add/remove programmes, remove Windows media player runtime ( roll back to windows media player ) re-boot your p.c then with a bit of luck the firmware will uipdate to the latest version.
In my opinion unless you realy want the Zen to act as an MTP device, and work on windows vista, theres not much to differentiate between the last ver firmware and the last ver2 firmware, read t6he link below ( if it still woks) and you should get an idea of the hassle i had when trying, then failing ( and eventualy suceeding) in updating the firmware on my Zen Xtra.

  • New Firmware for Zen. Where is

I remember during Christmas Break, when I first got my Zen (8gig, now upgraded to 6), I saw new firmware updates every week. Its been nearly 4 months without a firmware update. I liked the new features they kept adding, but stopping suddenly at only copying items in my SD card to my Zen and seeing ONLY my photos is NOT the best Creative can do. I love my Zen, but surely, someone in Creative's team can fix something about the Zen freezing (you know, fixed by using the paperclip reset ) or add more SD card functionality

"...any update would probably affect millions of Zen users..."
Not if they chose not to install it.
Re the integrated SD question. I don't know if it's deception, per se, but it kinda felt that way to me too. I don't think its an unreasonable expection that that you would be able to access the stuff on the card through the regular menu (music, etc.). I've seen a variety of players with expandable storage and Creative's is the only one I've seen that keeps the card memory separate. It's just different, and not what many people expect.
Another thing that is different and unexpected about this player is the faulty "resume" functionality. Oh, it will remember where you left off all right, and start there the next time you turn on the player, as long as the next time isn't more than 2 hours later. Overdri've media includes the Zen on its list of compatible players (one of the reasons I bought it), but it's only compatible in the sense that it will play the DRM WAV files. This flaw in the resume function and the fact that a bookmark loads only the single file containing the bookmark, i.e., it doesn't remember that the file you bookmarked is part of a playlist, makes it a frustrating experience.
I know most people use the player for music, but the audiobook & podcast world has been getting more popular for the last several years, and it would seem like Creative would want to to take those uses -- and users -- into consideration when designing firmware for their products. I haven't decided yet whether I'm going to return Zen in favor of the **other mp3**, but I certainly won't recommend it to anyone if they plan to use it for anything other than music.

I had EXACTLY the same problem.... i had to send the zen xtra back... never found out the exact problem, but in my opinion there was a problem with the usb connection on the unit.
I lost pretty much 50gigs worth of music and files
The player would connect but browsing took forever and transfers always timed out

Most likely. Try restarting your computer and waiting a day or so. Kind of like refreshing a webpage, sometimes you need to try a download more than once.

  • Car adapter for zen xtra 40 or 60

    Hello all!
I did do a message search for this question, but I couldn't find what I was looking for...so I apologize in advance if this has been asked and answered.
I'm thinking of buying a zen xtra 40 or 60 GB tomorrow, but I really need the car adapter to charge and/or play it. Is there one available? I read on an Amazon review that you could buy one at Radio Shack or Bed Bath and Beyond? Can anyone verify this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as my decision is based upon this answer...
    Thanks
    dave

    I had the same problem.
The car charger for the Zen Xtra is not listed on the main page accessories:
    http://us.creative.com/shop/shopcategory.asp?category=3
You have to go to the Zen Xtra page first and then look in the accessories to find it:

  • Covers For Zen Xtra 40

They should make changable covers for the zen xtra. or do they already?

    SSR wrote:
I'm guessing they won't make any for the Xtra.
Yeah, I agree... the Xtra is over a year old; If they were going to relese acessories like more covers, my guess is that they would have released them when the player first came out.
