2.2 Update NOT good for ALLY

So yah...My screen has been freezing up, SD card problems, text messaging problems, battery draining faster than ever before, phone has been shutting itself down...
Anyone else think the 2.2 update sucks??

From everything (both positive and negative) I have read about this phone and others like it, you will probably always have to do a restore when you install a major update.
For instance, my iPod Touch had the older software when I first purchased it a year ago, when they came out with the newer ones and the new ISO 4, it told me that a software upgrade was available. After installing it, nothing worked correctly and after 3 days on the phone with Apple Tech Support (which was horrible. You can't do anything with them unless you file an internet case order first.. or so they tell you), I just decided to restore it! Problem solved!
I imagine that these "smart" phones just like my iPod have back-up options that will allow you to recover everything with little to no hassell. You just have to take the time to keep it synced and up to date whenever you add new apps. When something new comes out, restores are necessary. I have learned that. Just like when you do something on your computer, it shuts down and reboots. Its the same principle!

(Started rating them since the first version of iTunes came out) I use time machine and have a backup from a couple of days ago. I managed to find this reference specifically for restoring on Snow Leopard:
If you are using Mac OS X Snow Leopard, start your computer from the installation disc. Then use the "Restore From Time Machine Backup" utility.

Finally, I cannot see why Time Machine would leave out your playlists and ratings? Think about it. Why would Time Machine specifically copy everything BUT your playlists and ratings? Ryan, what are your options? I would have to ask you this: Are you certain that you properly did the sync? That is another/different forum altogether: Using iPhone /see subsection on Syncing.

iOS 6 can be loaded without problem on the 3GS. Not all features are supported however.
With respect to your reading people are having trouble, what did you expect to see on this technical support forum? People don't write in to state they have a trouble-free upgrade.

Sign onto her Apple/iTunes ID in the iTunes Store. Then click on the iTunes ID and then on Account in the dropdown. Once you have her account screen displaying, scroll to the bottom and click on RESET next to the line "Reset All Warnings for Buying and Downloading", then try again (with her iTunes ID still signed on).

I understand your frustration, however update availability can vary depending on Region and carrier, this is because some regions and carriers may not have signed off the update or have policies preventing the update occuring.

I've fixed the problem - I think.
I forgot I had the program "Little Snitch" installed on my computer. So I went into it and saw that it was blocking most of my connections for all the programs I use on a daily basis. Once I lifted the RULE to those certain programs - BAM - everything came back to life in an instant!

Unfortunately, anything obtained at the app store remains tied to the Apple ID used to obtain it forever. You will either have to start over with your new ID or try to recover the original ID.

Don't worry about it. The MBP has built-in magnets. Does magsafe power connector ring a bell? The motor inside of the hard drive has a magnet.
You would need an extremely powerful magnet to affect a hard drive. I'm sure the electromagnet they use at a scrap yard to pick up a car could do it.
A long time ago I tried to erase some floppy diskettes by placing a magnet directly against the outer cover of the diskette. It had no effect on the recorded data.

IPod not updating: Not eligible for requested build?

On plugging in my iPod Touch (4th Generation) it comes up "This iPod is not eligable for the requested build" aftering the backing up and verifying sequence.
Now, since attempting to update to iOS5, I can't restore to an earlier version because it's just.. caput.
On doing a direct file update, I get 3002 Error.

This device is not eligible for the requested build: Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194." If you receive this alert, update to the latest version of iTunes. Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, follow Troubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. First you must uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer, then edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from the hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. Great question wm...there is no one standard practice, all in the owners desire for either a rapid return to last used session, ability to flip open and process new items, essentially convenience. With the improvements made in the past years of integration of components, heat dissapation, better battery construction-ion style an improvement for sure, only the individual can decide.
