2.2 Upgrade Causes Buzzing

You know when your phone is close to a speaker, alarm clock, etc. and you hear that buzz noise just before you receive a call and your phone rings. Well ... the 2.2 upgrade has caused my phone to do that same thing through my headphones (comes through the headphone jack). It happens every 5-10 minutes or so when the phone's checking in with the tower or something.
It's quite annoying when I go running or plug my phone into the auxiliary in my car. It never did that before the 2.2 upgrade.
Any ideas?

any GSM phone causes interference with speakers, it's not due to 2.2 at all or the iPhone in general.
it's due to the frequency the GSM network uses, and simple electrical interference.

Funny you should ask... At about the same time that the Xserve was discontinued, we also lost our channel rep of nearly 14 years. Right now we are not sure who our rep is. I have however, sent this to as many people in Apple that I could think of. And I plan on continuing to reach out to as many as possible.
The sad reality is that this decision is impacting customer deployments and the future of customer installations. Apple strives for market share and loves to tout those numbers. But the numbers we fought for over these last eight years are going to disappear.
As much as this impacts our business, we are making up for it in enterprise deployment of systems. We will survive and lead in our geographic area. I do not fear that. But OS X Server is a UNIX server and with it has come all of the benefits of a UNIX system, including legitimacy in a data center. The Intel Xserve cemented this reality because of its hardware configuration and form factor. Yes, we have G4 and G5s still in service. But those are mostly in all Mac shops that understand the benefits and can work around the buzz word limitations. But fortune 100/500 IT departments did not really get on board until the release of the Intel server.
Still beating the drum to raise awareness. Spread the word and talk to your Apple reps.
Also, ask about the direction that Apple's Enterprise team is going. If the news I hear is correct, then our fears about all things pro and enterprise going away are likely true.

    See this tip --> http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1559
If this doesn't resolve it you most likely have a hardware failure. Fortunately, your phone is in warranty, so if you take it to an Apple store they will replace it.

  • HT4972 Why has this upgrade caused my data usage to go up?

Why has the iOS 5 update caused my data usage to increase so much?

I was wondering when the iOS 5.1 came out, not the new one that is out now.  He did not say that downloading the upgrade caused the increase.  He made it sound like new functions in the software caused it.  Since Nov 2011 my data usage has increased from an average of around 30MB for the previous 7 months to an average of 136MB over the last 7 months.  I have not changed the things that I do on my phone.

  • Why is os 6 upgrade causing my iphone battery to drain?

Why has the os 6 upgrade caused my iphone 4 battery to drain unusually fast?

when I use the computer usb port to charge the battery, I found something strange:
battery indicator is showing 100% from my iphone within a hour
battery indicator is still showing "charging" from iTunes after two hours.
After two and half hours, the battery indicator is showing "charged" from the itunes.
The battery indicator might make you think your iphone's battery is fully charged from the iphone but it doesn't.
I had same problem from my 4s after upgarded to iOS 6 but Charged the battery overnight or more than two or three hours and it works fine now.

  • Firmware Upgrade causes severe slowness and Hangs

Has anyone else encountered this problem? I did do the firmware upgrade, and that caused slowness in responsiveness (followed immediately by that spinning wheel). In some cases, it completely hangs. At this time, I also tried to VNC into it, and it wasn't listening. It looks like GUI and network connectivity got hosed. This happens at least 10 times today.
    Any suggestions?

    spingineer,
I haven't seen the firmware update (done 2x) alone cause the problems that you're mentioning. In fact, I didn't notice a thing after running it. I DID notice issues when I ran all the updates (machine fresh out of the box and then everything at once). You machine shouldn't be any slower. Make sure you have enough free space on your drive.
The obvious, and often underused, diagnostic tool is to create a new user account and see if the issues persist there. If not, then look to what's running in your login items and your applications. You may just need to repair permissions, but sometimes it helps to verify or repair the disk.
As to the network connectivity. I'd say it's basically a given that a lot of minis aren't good citizens.
What I see is contention. It's like the machine thinks 'oh, someone else is using the connection so I'll back off a bit then try again', even if nothing else is on at all. It could be partially hardware, there are changes in the machines; but it might be something that can be solved w/ modifications to the stack. It's almost like a feedback loop. The more you use the connection the more it thinks it is competing w/ other machines for access and the slower it becomes. Try the usual, zap the pram, repair permissions, etc. There's a good link if you use search to a tutorial that may help you w/ some network connectivity issues on the mini. (moving out system configuration, promoting your primary connection to the top, using the assistant, rebooting and zapping the pram).
As easy as it seems to look at the firmware as the source of the problems, I haven't seen that as the foundation issue for either of the difficulties you are experiencing with your machine.
Hopefully a few simple resets and permission repairs etc will remedy the issue.
    Good Luck,
    -j

  • Win 8.1 Upgrade causes GPT/MBR Mismatch

I am responsible for 9 Mac minis (late 2012) in a computer training lab. I set them up last summer to dual boot Windows 8 Pro using Boot Camp. Recently, I tried upgrading one of the minis to Windows 8.1. The upgrade downloaded from the Microsoft Store and installed with no issues. Or, so I thought. Everything continued to work as before and I had no problem booting back and forth between the two operating systems. It wasn't until I attempted to make a disk image backup of the computer using Clonezilla that I discovered there was a problem. Clonezilla displayed the error message "This disk contains mismatched GPT and MBR partition" and would not do the backup. Thus began a lengthy journey of discovery about MBR, GPT, gdisk, etc.
So, here's what happened. The Windows 8.1 upgrade automatically (with no input whatsoever from me) resized the BOOTCAMP partition to be about 350MB smaller than it was previously. I have no idea why it did this and I haven't been able to find any report of this anywhere on the internet. Anyway, in resizing the partition, Win 8.1 of course modified the MBR partition table. However, it did not modify the corresponding partition information in the GPT partition table.
I was able to fix this using gdisk to delete the GPT BOOTCAMP partion info and recreate it using the correct first and last sector numbers from the MBR partition table. This procedure is described in detail in this forum and other places on the internet. So, I'm good to go. But, I'm posting this here because I haven't seen any report of this issue anywhere else. If you have upgraded a previously installed BOOTCAMP partition to Windows 8.1, I strongly urge you to get gdisk (download at http://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk) and run the verify (v) command to verify whether you have this issue. You can also verify by running
sudo gpt -r -vv show disk0.
    Mark Ulmer

Yes. First, download gdisk (URL in the OP) and run the installer package. Then run gdisk from a terminal window and run the v (verify command). If verify indicates no problems, then you're good to go and can just type "q" to quit. However, if it shows something like this, then you have the problem:
    sudo gdisk /dev/disk0
    Command (? for help): v
Warning! Mismatched GPT and MBR partition! MBR partition 4, of type 0x07, has no corresponding GPT partition! You may continue, but this condition might cause data loss in the future!
    Identified 1 problems!
Next, display the MBR partition table and make note of the start and end sectors for your BOOTCAMP partition. This should be partition 4 unless you've added additional partition(s), which is not officially supported by Boot Camp. It should show something like this:
    Command (? for help): r
    Recovery/transformation command (? for help): o
Disk size is 1953525168 sectors (931.5 GiB)
    MBR disk identifier: 0x7C170CB2
    MBR partitions:
Number  Boot  Start Sector   End Sector   Status      Code
       1                     1       409639   primary     0xEE
       2                409640    975693095   primary     0xAF
       3             975693096    976962631   primary     0xAB
       4      *      976963584   1952806911   primary     0x07
Next, display the GPT partition table information. Compare the start and end sectors for partition 4 to the MBR partition 4 start and end sectors. Most likely the start sectors will match, but the end sectors will be different.
    Recovery/transformation command (? for help): m
    Command (? for help): p
Number  Start (sector)    End (sector)  Size       Code  Name
       1              40          409639   200.0 MiB   EF00  EFI System Partition
       2          409640       975693095   465.1 GiB   AF00  Customer
       3       975693096       976962631   619.9 MiB   AB00  Recovery HD
       4       976963584      1953523711   465.7 GiB   0700  BOOTCAMP
Next, delete the GPT partition 4. (Note: this does not delete the actual partition from disk. It only deletes gdisk's in-memory representation of the GPT).
    Command (? for help): d
    Partition number (1-4): 4
Now, create a new partition 4 using the start and end sector values from the MBR partition 4.
    Command (? for help): n
    Partition number (4-128, default 4): 4
    First sector (34-1953525134, default = 976962632) or {+-}size{KMGTP}: 976963584
    Last sector (976963584-1953525134, default = 1953525134) or {+-}size{KMGTP}: 1952806911
    Current type is 'Apple HFS/HFS+'
Hex code or GUID (L to show codes, Enter = AF00): 0700
Changed type of partition to 'Microsoft basic data'
Now, change the name of the new partition 4 to BOOTCAMP:
    Command (? for help): c
    Partition number (1-4): 4
    Enter name: BOOTCAMP
Run the verify command. It should report no problems. If it still reports a problem, quit (q command) and start over.
    Command (? for help): v
If everything checks out, write new partition table to disk and exit.
    Command (? for help): w
Reboot and test your dual boot setup to verify all is working correctly.

  • OSX Mountain Lion Upgrade causes Restart, Kernel Panics

Have tried resetting PRAM, repairing permissions, and Disk Repair. This is happening after an upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. A fresh install is not a possibility. of course, I have a time machine backup and can go back to snow leopard if I have to. I cannot do a clean Mountain Lion install although I am planning to do one just to see if this is a hardware issue and not a software issue, and then revert back with time machine. I'm not having any luck discerning what caused the actual reboot.
There is no particular action I take that causes this. It happens randomly. It has been happening since the upgrade today. I installed XCode4 on the computer from the app store, which did not upgrade but instead put another copy of Xcode. There was a thread I researched where someone suggests removing an AppleProfileFamily file from Sytem/Library, but I do not have that file on my system.

This software seems to pinpoint the problem. I haven't had the restart issue with Intel onboard graphics only. However, this definitely isn't a problem solved.
After much more research, I found that people with my video card have been having this issue since OSX Lion and Apple still hasn't fixed it. This is incredibly disappointing. I will be contacting Apple for a refund on Mountain Lion soon if I can't find updated drivers.
Thanks very much for your help.

  • Yosemite upgrade causing issues with Adobe Premiere Elements 10

    Hi,
Over the last weekend I upgraded my mid-2010 iMac to Yosemite from Snow Leopard and it seems to have caused an error with Adobe Premiere Elements 10.
Prior to upgrading I was working on a project without issue. Now, when I try to open it I get an error "The project is not compatible with current version of Premiere Elements".
I have tried other projects and some open without issue whilst others also present the same error. The difference between the projects appears to be whether a DVD menu has been selected. If the project has one - it fails to open.
It seems strange that the OS would affect software in this way but that is all that has been changed.
If someone can shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Mac mini upgrades causing problems?

Hi, I had the RAM and hard drive in my mac mini (PowerPC) upgraded to 1GB DDR (PC2700), and a 100GB, 7200 RPM ATA6 Hitachi Hard drive. I reinstalled Mac OS 10.4 on the new drive. The machine runs, but it continually (at random intervals) freezes and displays the "Your computer muster be restared" window ... you know, the one with multiple languages. I ran the Apple Hardware test that came w/ the machine, and it passed .... so any ideas what's causing it to freeze?

You're experiencing kernal panics, which are typically due to memory problems, often with memory that, while meeting Apple specs, just doesn't work well with the Apple architecture. Crucial, Kingston (not their valueram), and Samsung are 3 brands that are pretty consistent in working, and if you scan the discussions you'll find some other brands that work in the mini. I used Crucial when I upgraded to 1GB, and have had no issues.
Other reasons that can cause kernal panics are discussed in http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.htmld

  • 10.9.3 Upgrade - Causes GPU Panic Attacks

Since the upgrade on May 17 2014, my MAC Book Pro has been crashing constently.  It has crashed in many applications and in many scenarios. It is not hardware related given that my MAC has been nothing but stable until the upgrade.  I have read that 4K support for monitors was introduced as part of this release and since I my laptop going into a state GPU Panic, it only seems to make sense that it is related to an OSX bug.  Can someone please advise on what to do.
    Thanks.

The root cause was a faulty logic board (and not 10.9.3 upgrade).  My MBP has been working without issue since the replacement.  As I have read in other threads (on this site and others), if you are getting GPU Panic attacks, chances are very good you have a hardware issue.

  • Photo library upgrade causes crash

On starting iPhoto, I get the message  "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto"
If I click upgrade the app crashes. If I click Quit the app closes.
Had problems with iPhoto as disk space was full, however now I can't start the app to remove photos.  Can any one advise ?
Version iPhoto 9.4.3 on OSX 10.8.4
    Thanks

Apologies re font.  Looks like the photo library needing upgrading was a read herring. I was pointing to the wrong library.  Now my original problem exists.
Trying to open iPhoto causes it to crash. I do get a report that I can send to Apple -
    Exception Type:  EXC_BREAKPOINT (SIGTRAP)
    Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000000

However when the last set of photos were loaded, the load didn't complete, so I assume it hasn't cleaned up properly.

  • 7.3 upgrade causes iTunes not to launch

Initially I ran into this problem when I upgraded my Macbook's install of itunes to 7.3. When I would launch the app it would bounce in the dock a few times, sit there, then just disappear. After digging around I found others had a similar problem and the only solution was to downgrade to 7.2 which I did. Then 7.3.1 came out claiming to fix a 'minor' problem where itunes would not appear or something to that effect. I was hopeful and upgraded from my now downgraded 7.2. That only brought the problem back again forcing me to downgrade...again. Fine, I thought, I'll just stay at 7.2. Then after upgrading my work iMac G5 to 7.3.2 the same thing happened! What is causing this even on the supposedly fixed updates?! Sure I could run old software, but I have a feeling it's going to happen to another one of my 3 Macs and at that point I'm going to go nuts. What can be done to prevent this and make it run as it should on the latest and supposedly greatest version?
    thanks

  • Oracle 10.2.0.2 upgrade causes causes sporadic signal 4/ORA-

    Hello
We have recently upgraded the Oracle database of this ECC 5.0 SAP
system from Oracle 9207 to Oracle 10.2.0.2 with 40 one-up patches. The
SAP kernel is 640 64-bit Unicode at patch level 175. We are receiving
intermittent signal 4/ORA-24909 errors after completing this upgrade.
As part of the upgrade, we followed the recommendation to install the
latest Oracle client software which we did. We followed note 1017418
to install the latest 64-bit 9208 Oracle client available on
sapnet. In our case, since it is the only SAP system on the server and
the Oracle DB is 10.2.0.2, we implemented the client per the step B.5
in note 1017418. Implementing the client per these instructions
    creates the following directories:
    qasadm> ls -la /oracle/client/92x_64
    total 0
    drwxr-sr-x 8 qasadm sapsys 256 Jan 15 2007 .
    drwxrwsr-x 5 qasadm dba 256 Jan 28 14:19 ..
    drwxr-sr-x 5 qasadm sapsys 256 Jan 15 2007 jdbc
    drwxr-sr-x 2 qasadm sapsys 256 Jan 15 2007 lib
    drwxr-sr-x 3 qasadm sapsys 256 Jan 15 2007 network
    drwxr-sr-x 3 qasadm sapsys 256 Jan 15 2007 ocommon
    drwxr-sr-x 4 qasadm sapsys 256 Jan 15 2007 oracore
    drwxr-sr-x 3 qasadm sapsys 256 Jan 15 2007 rdbms
I have read all notes I can find trying to understand what may be
causing this issue, but everything I find seems to point to an Oracle
client issue. After the upgrade, the only change made to <sid>adm
(QASADM in our case) was the setting of ORACLE_HOME. I have attached
the envronment variables of <sid>adm to this message. <sid>adm is able
to read the new $ORACLE_HOME and the data pointed to by ORA_NLS33.
Note 952388 provides a direct hit for the issue we are having. Since
our database is now 10.2.x, we validated the following two points:
    1) made sure note 1017418 was implemented (as mentioned above).
    2) made sure one-up patch 5092134 was applied per note 1005758; I've
attached the OPATCH lsinventory output to confirm this criteria is met.
Please let us know what needs to be done to resolve this issue.
    Thanks & Regards

  • Upgrade Causes API Inconsistencies

I successfully upgraded Web Tools from 625 to 652 (SP1 PL2). The problem is, many of the API calls have had their parameters changed, which are causing build errors. Below are some code examples, the problems defined, and the compiler errors relating to them.
    List<NPOrderExpenseDiscount> list = new List<NPOrderExpenseDiscount>();
    list.AddRange(discount.Discount.GetCurrentDiscounts(this._order.getNPOrder(), ox));
No overload for method 'GetCurrentDiscounts' takes '2' arguments
This code will compile under 625, but in 652 the GetCurrentDiscounts declaration requires a third bool parameter.
    ListPrice(ref price, "@pricelist", parameters2,
      priceList.ListFactor, connectionString, theTrace);
Argument '4': cannot convert from 'decimal' to 'double'
Again, OK in 625, but in 652 the fourth argument, priceList.ListFactor, is no longer of type decimal but of type double.
    this._order.BillingAddressID = this.AddAddress.Save();
No overload for method 'Save' takes '0' arguments
In 625, this ran fine, but in 652 the Save function requires at least one parameter.
    this.AddAddress.BillingOnly = true;
'netpoint.common.controls.AddressBlock' does not contain a definition for 'BillingOnly'
625 has AddAddress having a property BillingOnly - in 652, the property seems to have mysteriously vanished.
As you can see, there are several problems with the API differences that I am trying to reconcile. Is there any sort of documentation where I can see the changes made in the API? The .chm file included with the SDK doesn't seem to have them all.

The API documentation is updated when it is changed many changes were made in the SP0 version from any version in Ramp Up and the changes during rampup were not documented.
When SP1 came out there were more API changes and the documentation should have been updated and released with the new information in it as well. However, there is no before->after API document.  Each patch that is released with the exception of SP1 comes with a list of files that were modified and care is taken to not make drastic changes to the API during a regular(non-service pack) patch release.
