2.3.1 Network Test

has anyone who was experiencing networking issues (disappearing appleTV in iTunes, slow syncing, port whatever problems etc, etc) tried the network test? i wasn't experiencing any problems but tried it just to see what would happen and it seems to do some troubleshooting and fixing.. ran it and noticed it did a change to my airport extreme settings (DNS server address).

i don't know this for sure, but the last thing i did last night was update my appleTV... skooted around a bit to see if i saw any difference, did the network test and went to bed.. woke up this morning.. went to check my email.. noticed my airPort Utility was opened and it gave me the message that my DNS Server setting had been changed...?
i thought it was bad/weird that i hadn't been asked if i wanted to do the change (by the appleTV or airPort Utility)... but i also have no explanation for my airPort Utility being open and it reporting the change either... i don't know what the DNS was before the change as well..

Wireless does not seem to stay on. Printed a wireless network test report and it says, "The wireless radio is not functioning. Contact HP support".

Let's reset the printer - turn the printer off, hold the # and 6 keys while turning it back on.

On a wireless network test report, I get "The wireless radio is not functioning."

The printer is a Photosmart C309a all-in-one. I've used this printer for some time and did so wirelessly earlier today. Upon ordering a print job the printer failed to produce results. I ran a Network Configuration Page where it showed the printer to be offline with no Active Connection Type. I then ran a Wireless Network Test report and received the message: "The wireless radio is not functioning. Contact HP Support." IS THERE A FIX FOR THIS?
I reinstalled the printer software on my computer configuring it with a USB connection, in order to be able to use the printer. I was able to use it with the USB connection but would most definitely prefer a wireless connection. I also turned off the printer, router and computer and turned them on in the order outlined in the user's manual, but to no avail. This, of course, I did before reinstalling the software for a USB connection.

I afraid the error indicate an an hardware failure..
You may try using a wired ethernet cable as a workaround, the printer will need to be services in order to repair its wireless card.

Naturally my printer is out of warranty. Has anyone had experience with this problem. If so, how did you resolve it?

Is the error message from a diagnostic running on the computer or from the front panel of the c309a? The page here may help.

Network Test

So I downloaded the update and ran the network test but I get the following error:
Can't connect to Apple
Check your network connection or try again later.
Everything else on the ATV works, streaming from our Macs, the iTunes Store, streaming from iPhoto, YouTube. I went through the Configure Wireless and Configure TCP/IP and still I get the error message.

if everything already works fine on appletv, then i wouldn't bother about it to be honest.

Network test cannot connect to apple

I have been having fuzzy image issues with netflix so I hard wired the my Apple TV rather than wifi thinking that would solve it. It did not. Figured I would try to test network speed in general setting and found that after thinking for a minute or so it indicated it could not connect with apple and to try back later. The connect does work because everything but the test streams fine other than the test. My other Apple TV has the same network test problem. Anyone else have similar issues?

Officejet 6700 connected to network according to network configuration page and network test results

Office Jet 6700 connected to network according to wireless network test results but I get an unable to connect error when trying to set up web tools or connect to get updates. I have an Actiontec Router with century link DSL. I have tried both manual IP configuration and DHCP configuration. I can print wirelessly from my iphone and can access the web service page on the printer but the printer will not connect outside the network. I do not have a proxy.

Never mind. I found the answer... I set the dns servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 ( google's dns servers ). Sort of strange that I set the dns servers manually to the ones recommended on my router and it didn't work but when I set them to google's it works...? Spent many hours researching this til I found the answer. Silly printer and silly instrucutions tha never mentioned overriding the dns servers if you couldn't connect.

What exactly happens between the the time the printer was last working well and no on your system? Any updates or upgrades?

2.3.1 Update Network Test

Well, for what it was worth I ran the new Network test since I have minimum 2 hour HD movie download times with my ADSL connection. I'm not sure what it did but it did say it was sending data to Apple via the inter-web to help them solve download speed issues. After I rebooted and tried a new download and it still going nearly two hours later, so same as before. I didn't really expect it would change anything right away, but I am hopeful doing the test helps them reach some level of improvement.
The time is not a big deal to me, especially when you can download movies and keep them 30 days before watching. I always have a larder of rented movies at the ready. The picture quality on the HD movies is far better than I get from my Bell HD dish, so I enjoy them no matter how long they take.
I'll repost if I ever see any improvements.

So far I find the latest update to be very stable. Over time both my ATVs used to get sluggish and eventually freeze requiring a reset. I didn't have any remote issues with my original ATV that came with version 1 software.
The second ATV however that came new with version 2 software had major remote issues with my Samsung LCD TV only in my bedroom with the screen's backlight settings turned down low and energy saver on high. This setup is optimal in the bedroom since I watch the TV with the lights off and the TV's back light set dim. The whole setup worked fine in my living room and I suspected the semi-gloss white paint on the bedroom wall for reflecting IR interference from the TV's back light making the ATV useless. I was only able to use the setup with the screen set to fairly bright settings.
To my surprise the 2.3.1 software fixed this issue completely allowing me to turn the back light and energy saver feature down to the lowest settings with no interference to the ATV's remote. I have never had to reset either ATV since I updated and have not experienced any menu slow downs since. So far I find this to be the most stable version of the version 2 ATV software.

Off Topic-Becoming a Verizon Network Tester

I know this is way off topic, but I wasn't sure where else to post this. How does one apply for a job to become a Verizon Network Tester in their area? I'm constantly running real world tests from my phone around my area, contantly testing voice calls, texting, data, running speed/network tests, etc., and anytime I spot the slightest issue, I immediately report it. I'd be a valuable testing asset to the Verizon team if I'd be able to join.

Network tests on SpamAssassin

In some threads I found various information about enabling network tests on SpamAssassin for fine-tuning its spam detection rate.
So far I followed the instructions and enabled basic network tests at /etc/amavisd.conf file ($salocal_testsonly = 0;).
I furthermore read that some tests require Net::DNS module. However I want to avoid installing it, since I made some bad experiences in the past with CPAN and also found a thread here that this caused trouble.
Now on http://wiki.apache.org/spamassassin/UsingDcc I found the information that there is the need for opening a firewall port for this network test to perform successfully. Does DCC work without Net::DNS module installed ? Are there risks opening the requested port (yes, I'm paranoid) ?

I read this document already before and enabled the network tests, fixed the two known issues (only one domain is scanned and the bayes learning issue of amavis/clamav). I also had a look at the mentioned articles at http://www.afp548.com..., but they go to wide from what I want to achieve (improving SpamAssassin and not doing (dangerous) adjustments at Postfix).
However on http://wiki.apache.org/spamassassin/SpamAssassinon_Mac_OS_XServer I also read about installing the Pyzor package. While it seems well documented, I fear that someone could went very bad... so has anyone installed this according the explanations there already successful ?
On the download link for Pyzor, https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=50000 , it appears that it is from the year 2002 - I wonder if this is the latest package and how useful the software is from this date overall ?
Do I need to install py-gdbm before or after installing Pyzor ? The document says " Pyzor depends on py-gdbm which is most easily installed via DarwinPorts. First install Darwinports, then sudo port install py-gdbm to install the py-gdbm package...". Is there a more dummy-like step-by-step installation instruction available ?
Unfortunately I have no testing environment, so anything I do takes effect to a running system, therefore all these questions
