2 - 3 times per day my iPhone 3Gs changes time by itself.

The phone is set to automatic time update. The time is correct when I turn it on, but later it changes by about 15 minutes. I have to reboot the phone and the time is correct. The phone is NOT jailbroken, and this has only happened since i had a new battery installed.

If you haven't already, try restoring your iPhone as a new device, not from a backup, and with only the apps Apple includes. Then see if the problems persist. It's possible that a corrupted file on the iPhone is causing the problems, and that could perhaps be coming back onto the iPhone if you're restoring using a backup. Problems with an app could also be causing problems. If the problems persist after restoring the iPhone as "new", then you almost certainly have a defective iPhone and will need to contact Apple for servicing.
If the problems go away after restoring the iPhone as "new", then you can start putting your other apps back on and see if the problems reappear; if they do, you probably have a badly-coded app.
Regards.

  • IPhone 3GS - changed ATT plans and it doesn't work as well anymore, etc

Ok. I've had the IPhone 3GS for about a year. a month or so ago I changed plans to the $15 for 200MB plan. Whether this is a coincidence or not, since then, a) when I scan for email it just spins and spins and then says the password is not correct for my email address.....Ive inputted it multiple times, it recognizes it then, but still has a problem. After refusing connection about 10 times, it finally gets tired of fighting me and downloads the email. It also will say can't "connect to the server" and then after multiple attempts it will. I got this plan because ATT said I was averaging about 35MBs a month. I change the plan, and last month I had 132MBs and in 6 days this month I had 73MBs. .....when I'm using it much less because it's too much of a hassle to sit around for 10 minutes for it to comply. I called ATT a couple of weeks ago, they had me do a couple of things, but it didn't work. So is this an ATT problem or is it an Apple problem????? thanks.

Somewhere back then I figured it out, but don't recall how I did it now

  • My iphone 3gs turns off by itself and sometimes doesn't turn on

My iphone 3gs sometimes just turns off... The screen would go white for a second and than it shuts off. Sometimes i can just press every button and it won't change anything so i think my phone is broken but than it just comes magicly on. It doesn't matter if is plugged in or not it just happens randomly and usually when it happens once it happens another few times when i turn it back on and after i turn it back on i have to be really carefull because a little hit on the back side and it wpuld turn off again. Also a month or so ago my phone fell and half of the screen is cracked.
I got the phone from y so it was used but i don't think she had any problems with it.
    Pleaseee heeelppp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It sounds to me like you may have a loose connection inside the phone, battery connector or sleep/wake switch. I say this because you mention that tapping the phone on the back seems to cause it to shut down.  I would recommend taking it to Apple or a trustworthy repair shop and have them look it over.

  • Iphone 3gs freezes and reboots itself every now and then

Hi, I have an iPhone 3GS with latest firmware 5.0.1 and sometimes it just freezes and reboots itself. I tried to restore it as new, from backup, I upgraded firmwares but still every now and then it just reboots itself. Often when I start the phone in the morning it reboots several times in a row. Are the latest firmwares buggy or what? Please help!

I found solution on this forum.  He said the problem solved by reset all setting -> as new phone.  (Don't worry, data is preserved).  This works for me so far.. keep my finger cross.

  • Iphone 3Gs turns off by itself.

I have an iphone 3Gs. It recently started turning off by itself. I could be listening to music, making a call, on the interenet, or whatever. It turns off with the charger in or out. Most of the time it turns back on right after. Sometimes i will have to maually turn it on. It takes almost 3 minutes to turn back on. Then it will stay on from anywhere between 3 and 30 minutes before it turns back off. It also turns off sometimes when it is shook. Thats only somethimes though. I really need a way to fix this. Please if anyone has any ideas, post them here. Thank you

I'm having the EXACT same problem--and it's been recent--it never used to do this! I'm usually out running with iTunes and RunKeeper both running, and...it just shuts off. But usually when I try and restart it, nothing happens, though a few times it will restart and then shut down again.Once it happens my run is shot.
Wouldn't surprise me to learn that this is from a recent IOS patch...maybe to force us to upgrade...wouldn't be the first time that a company has done something like this, and Apple releasing IOS 6 with Apple Maps just goes to show that Apple has some real shortcomings since Steve died.

  • IPhone 3Gs changes its name

My iPhone 3Gs has suddently changed its name to 2012. I have restarted the iPhone, the computer (iMac Intel) and installed the latest version of iTunes (9.0.3), but the problem began with the previous version. I can sync the iPhone with iTunes and all the apps, etc. are OK. Does anybody know what could have caused this?

There are no viruses that affect or infect OS X for 10 years running now, and the iPhone runs an optimized version of OS X.
With the exception of a hacked/jailbroken iPhone, nothing can be installed on an iPhone from a recieved email or from a website except for a photo, and I'm unaware of any malware being included with a jpeg file. Unless you have hacked/jailbroken your iPhone which allows for installing unofficial software downloaded from unknown and untrusted sorces, you have nothing to worry about in regards to any malware.
Unless the name of your iPhone continues to change without any interaction on your part, more than likely just an unusual quirk.

  • My freinds iphone 3gs/g has restricted itself

    hi guys!
my freind has an iphone 3gs/g, they tried to update the phone and its restriced itself.
the phone has always been on vodafone and now it wont accept the sim.
have spoken to vodafone but they checked the imei number and said the phone isnt actually restricted but theyre going to run a software check to have a look.
does anyone have any idea on how to sort this problem out please
    much appreciated!

it was an old contract phone from vodafone. its basically saying it cant activate now, so any sim wont work, he has his sim a old phon for now and his sim works fine, ive looked around on here and it seems quite a few people have this problem after an update,
they say its a cause of jailbreaking or being hacked but the phone was neither of these because it was my dads before, weve spoken to apple and they said to go to vodafone which weve done but still dont have a solution...

  • My iPhone 3GS shuts down by itself.

What shoud I do? After intalling ios 5 my iPhone shuts down and reinitiate by itself several times a day! What's going on!?!?

    Hi,
It probably wouldn't hurt to Check that All your Apps are compatible with iOS 4...
And If you haven't already… you could try the following Troubleshooting Steps:
    1) Restart
    2) Reboot
    3) Reset
    4) Restore (from Backup)
And if those 4 Steps don't Cure your ills…
    5) Restore as New…

  • My iPhone 3GS won't reset itself.

I've pressed the power button and menu button together fir ten seconds, I then get the apple sign which is normal; howler instead of loading onto the main screen, I just get the thinking circle. I've tried doing it with the charger installed, but get the same thing. I'm not sure what to do now.

Try restoring via iTunes. I really think it's time for an upgrade. You should really consider an iPhone 4 AT LEAST since they aren't so expensive used. If you check on Craigslist, you can find one for $100. The Retina Display part is so much better than standard resolution on the 3GS and below's screen.

  • IPhone 3GS turns off by itself and then needs restored.

I've had this phone sitting around in my desk for a good two years at least because of this problem so I don't think there's a warranty anymore. It turns itself off within a minute of me turning it on and when it's on it says that it needs restored. I've restored it a hundred times now. It stays on while it's restoring but it turns off when it's done and I have to start the whole process over again. I've read through a lot of threads but nobody seems to have the same problem, or at least they don't mention it needing restored. Could this be the power button? It looks a little bit sunken in.

  • My iPhone (3GS) decided to turn itself off and never came back on!!!

I still didn't do the last update on it yet. I can't remember the last one.
Anyway, I used a few of my apps this morning, was using the dictionary with my son ...
I downloaded an app for cursive handwriting. We turned it on and checked it out.
I guess I set my phone down on the table, continued with our lesson, and next thing I know ...
Picked up my phone and it was off. Try to turn it on on the button, nothing. Connected to my PC, didn't even acknowledged that there was a "new hardware" connected. Plugged it in the wall charger ... nothing!
Oh, it has been charging all night, just like every night.
Any ideas on what this could possibly be?
    Thanks,
    Ana.

I have been reading further into this wonderful forum and found a few helpful hints.
Thank you so much for you guys who post these great answers.
