2:30 QuickTime Movie in Presentation

Greetings,
We are using Keynote 08 as an electronic kiosk. When we add the movie it will not play the entire 2:30 before transitioning to the next slide. Only see an option for :60...how do you instruct Keynote to play the entire 2:30 QuickTime movie? We can trick Keynote with extra slides or objects etc., seems there should be an easier way to do this.
Thank you,
SB

The Original Poster wants to set up a non-interactive kiosk with Keynote '08, so the presentation has to play by itself with no user interaction. Because of this, all of the transitions between the slides will be set to Automatic.
In Keynote '08, I haven't found a way to set up an Automatic transition such that a movie of 2 minutes and 30 seconds will play completely and then transition to the next slide. You can set a delay of up to 10 minutes, but the time isn't locked to real time, so sometimes the transition will happen sooner, sometimes later. However, if you have had some success, please share!
Thanks!

  • Contolling QuickTime movies during presentation

    I need to be able to control how the movie goes during a presentation, like going step by step or stop at some point.
    I did not find how to put the control buttons available in the inspector (when building the Keynote-presentation) inside the slide.
    Has anayone succeed to do that ?
    Bernard

    QuickTime CONTROL may be better supported in PPT, but movies themselves are MUCH better in Keynote. You can stack them up and change the transparency and it'll actualy play. I have no idea what PPT will do with more than one movie on a slide, and forget transparency at all. On top of that Keynote supports movies with an alpha channel, so you can use animated objects made with an app like Motion and they will play in Keynote with a transparent background, floating on your slide. Pretty cool stuff.

  • Presenting a Quicktime movie on a secondary display

    Has anyone figured out how to present a Quicktime movie with applescript on another display?
    supposedly you can do it with
    present movie 1 display N
    where N is the display number. However, no matter what number I type for N, I the movie always presents itself on the main display. I notice that if I happen to have the Quicktime movie already open, and I move it into the secondary display BEFORE running the script, it will play on that secondary display, also independently of the value of N.
    Is this a bug? Anyone know a workaround?
    Thanks

    Jeffery,
    sorry for the belated response. I haven't been on these 'boards in over a year.
    While researching another matter several years ago, I stumbled across a possible answer to your question. It was written by none other than Brennan Young, I cannot claim credit for his expertise.
    here is what he said:
    _*Scripting For The Screen*_
    Now lets try a slightly more interesting example.
    tell application "QuickTime Player"
    activate
    present movie 1
    end tell
    This script will play the frontmost movie with a black background filling the screen. The resolution and update frequency of the monitor will also change, exactly as if "present movie" had been chosen from the Movie menu. The "activate" command ensures that QuickTime Player is the frontmost application when this happens. (See what happens when you leave it out.) "Activate" also launches the application if it is not already running.
    Its worth having a look at the dictionary entry for this command:
    _present: Present a movie_
    present reference
    -- the movie to present
    scale half/normal/double/screen/current
    -- the scale at which to present the movie
    mode normal/slide show
    -- the mode in which to present the movie
    display small integer
    -- the display on which to present the movie
    The command itself and all the named parameters are marked in bold. Optional parameters are shown in square brackets and, being named parameters, they can be in any order. Where there are multiple constant arguments, these are separated by a slash. If the argument should be of a given type, such as "small integer," this is specified too. After each parameter is a comment explaining what it represents.
    With this in mind, we might want to present the movie full-screen, and because I have the luxury of a second monitor, I can view it there using the "display" parameter. Heres how it would look:
    tell application "QuickTime Player"
    activate
    present movie 1 scale screen display 2
    end tell

    I've seen this question posted a few times with no answers. I thought I'd share a workaround. It's not perfect, but it does the job. If you move the window of the movie to the secondary display before presenting it, it will present in that display.
    In my case, it's something like
    tell application "QuickTime Player"
    open my_movie
    set bounds of window 1 to {2800, 1000, 3653, 1480}
    present movie 1
    end tell

  • Quicktime Movie compression question

    This is a G5 using 10.5.8 and Final Cut Pro 5.1.4.
    I'd like to submit a how-to video to a contest, and the maximum allowable size is 500 MB. My movie is presently three times that size. Is there any way I can compress a QT movie to a smaller size without too much loss of quality, or do I have to just keep editing and chopping away at the video until I get it down to one-third the length it is now? I'm afraid I'll lose too much how-to information if I do that.
    I exported the 7 min. 26 sec. video as a QuickTime movie to see what size file it was, and it came out 1.58 Gigabytes.
    Under Export, I see that there are also options to export to Compressor or Using QT Conversion. Can anyone tell me how, or where to find out how, to export this video at its present length, but as a smaller file, without losing too much quality? The contest will accept a variety of video formats, but when I converted the project to AVI or MP4 (Using QT Player) the quality got really bad, with a lot of artifacts, halos, etc.
    Any advice appreciated.
    Tom

    Thanks Ben--it looks like it will take care of things. I note that this method shrinks down the QT viewing window and cuts down on the number of frames per second, but the quality isn't reduced too much. By doing that I will be able to send them the full 7.5 minutes of my video, reduced to a file size of about 450 MB, down from 1.58 GB.
    This how-to contest asks you to send them your video over the Internet, but I don't know whether they're viewing and judging the videos on a computer or not. If they're not, then they're going to be viewing mine in a pretty small window on whatever monitor or TV they use, but it still beats chopping the video down to practically nothing so that I could send it to them in full quality.
    Thanks much for taking the time to help me out.
    Best wishes,
    Tom

  • How do I get Javascript or HTML to open a QuickTime movie as a slideshow?

    I have turned a 320x240 pixel photo sequence into a QuickTime movie using the "File > Open Image Sequence ..." option. However, that required I specify an equal amount of time to display each photo.
    Using the following JavaScript, I can, from within a webpage, play that QuickTime movie as a movie in another window by simply clicking on the link to it in the webpage:
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
    <!-- hide this script from old browsers
    // This script opens a new browser window and writes
    // HTML to play an video with a title and caption
    function show_movie( pFileName, pTitle, pCaption, pEnd) {
    // specify window parameters
    movieWin = window.open( "", "", "width=370,height=400,status,scrollbars,resizable");
    // wrote content to window
    movieWin.document.write('<html><head><title>' + pTitle + '</title></head>');
    movieWin.document.write('<BODY BGCOLOR=#000000 TEXT=#FFFFCC LINK=#33CCFF VLINK=#FF6666>');
    movieWin.document.write('<center>');
    movieWin.document.write('<font size="+1" face="arial,helvetica"><b>' + pCaption + '</b></font><br>');
    movieWin.document.write('<object width="320" height="256">');
    movieWin.document.write('<embed src="' + pFileName + '" width="320" height="256" autostart="true" pluginspage="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/"></embed></object><p>');
    movieWin.document.write('<font face="arial,helvetica">');
    movieWin.document.write('' + pEnd + '<br>');
    movieWin.document.write('<p></font></body></html>');
    movieWin.document.write('<form>');
    movieWin.document.write('<input type=button value="Close Window" onClick="javascript:window.close();" name="button">');
    movieWin.document.write('</form>');
    movieWin.document.close();
    // If we are on NetScape, we can bring the window to the front
    if (navigator.appName.substring(0,8) == "Netscape") movieWin.focus();
    // done hiding from old browsers -->
    </SCRIPT>
    But some photos need to be displayed for a longer time than others.
    QuickTime 7.1.2 "View > Present Movie > Slideshow > Play" will play the movie as a slideshow -- the person looking at it has full control over how much time a photo is displayed before going to the next one.
    My JavaScript allows the user to pause the movie and continue it at will, but if I can modify it to play the movie directly as a slideshow like QuickTime 7.1.2, please let me know how.

  • How can I get a Quicktime movie to play over a background slideshow?

    I created a slideshow in PowerPoint 2003 a few years ago and would like to update it using Keynote '09. PowerPoint had a "play once" and a "Play in foreground" option that let the movie play in the same spot continuously until the last of the 21 slides are displayed. The slides were timed with background graphics and lyrics that matched the song being sung in the Quicktime movie.
    It's a song my daughter wrote and performed and it's something I think could be vastly improved using Keynote's amazing transitions, etc.
    When I tried simply importing the presentation from PowerPoint, the video will start to play but when the second slide is displayed, the video is no longer visible. I tried to set Keynote to play it on all slides, but that just restarts the audio to a "row row your boat" round kind of thing. The video doesn't play on the remaining slides.
    Is there a way to make this happen?
    Thanks!

    That's a shame. It takes some tweaking, but PowerPoint can do this. I know it's not something that is needed all the time, but it's something I've needed on a few occasions. I wonder how well the timing would work out if I broke the video up into sub clips and simply assigned a clip to each slide? It's a lot more work and I suspect I'll pick up some clips and pops during the slide changes.
    Keynote is still far better at what it does than PowerPoint, but do I ever wish it could do this so I could really show it off to people.
    Thanks for the reply!

  • QuickTime movie in Keynote 3 want to export Keynote as QT

    So I have a Keynote presentation. It is mostly images but 3 slides play small Quicktime movies. Interviews I did on DV, converted to 320x240 using Sorenson V3 and IMA 4:1 audio. In Keynote 3.0, they now have controls. They play great.
    But I need to export the presentation so others can use it without keynote.
    The only option seems to be exporting it as as a Quicktime movie.
    Actually, with trial and error, the Quicktimes in the Quicktime play great. BUT are missing controls!
    So anyone viewing the interactive Quicktime from a CD-R has no choice but to watch each clip. Longest is 17 minutes so a pause or stop is an option that is needed.
    Does anyone know how to get those QT controls (or at least stop or pause) into the movie inside the exported interactive Quicktime from Keynote?
    Is there a 3rd party solution? I'm desperate.
    Alternatively, if anyone knows how to do same but as a Flash file, that would be fine too.
    This was problem in Keynote 2.0 as well. My presentation size is big enough.
    Considering the convergence of audio and video all over Apple product line, I just don't get why this was not considered for the 3.0 update. I want to export my lectures for students to self run. I'm probably not the only university professor who shows video and would like Apple to deal with this ASAP.

  • Help playing my quicktime movie on keynote

    I have a movie on quicktime. It plays perfectly fine when played through quicktime.
    I am making a presentation using keynote. I want to make one of my slides that movie. So I do exactly as I have been reading. Ok, so the movie is now on the slide, but all I see are the little white squares around it, no actual movie. Those same white squares that you get when your trying to move or select an item for edit. Anyways, I say well maybe it will play when I play my slide show. Still no movie. Sometimes I get a blank page when I get to the slide with the movie. Other times I get the actual control panal to play the movie, but yet not movie is playing regardless of how many times I rewind, and play etc.
    Can keynote play quicktime movies? If so what is the format they have to be in. The format of the movie in quick time is
    Apple Animation, 983 x 552, Millions+
    Please help, I really need this movie for my presentation.

    In the Inspector section find the Transitions controls. For that slide, select the delay time for the same length of time of the clip.
    Not sure if that will solve it but it's worth a try. That's how I got my QT clip to play.
    Good luck.

  • Putting a quicktime movie into keynote?

    When I put a quicktime movie in to keynote it shows video controls in the raw set but when I export it to an interactive quicktime movie it does not show the video controls is there any way to show the videos controls?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    EDIT: The below answer is wrong. I just read again, No, you can't do this in Keynote. Sorry!
    Ohh, I think I get it. When you export as a normal movie, the controller is turned on by default. When you export an interactive movie, the standard controller is turned off. To turn this on for interactive movies, you'd have to have QuickTime Pro, open the movie, do a command-J to open the properties, go into the Presentation tab and change "Movie Controller Type" from "None Movie Controller" to "Movie Controller".

  • Interactive Quicktime Movie Events (Keynote)

    I'm developing an AIR app that lets the user play a quicktime .mov from their computer.  This movie will most likely come from an exported Keynote presentation.
    In case you're not familiar, Keynote lets you export a quicktime movie that is interactive... it will automatically pause after each transition and you can click anywhere on the movie to make it continue to the next slide.
    In the flash VideoDisplay component it plays right through these "pause points" instead of stopping automatically.
    Is there any way to have quicktime movies automatically pause at those points?  Or is there a way to at least get a callback when they're supposed to happen so that I can pause it manually with actionscript?
    I know it sounds far fetched, but this would basically let you play a keynote presentation inside flash.

    Welcome to the discussions, Christopher.
    Over in the Keynote discussions we've been going over this for quite awhile. Unfortunately, there's no easy solution to your problem. I've even gone as far as attempting to preload the chapter track thinking that might solve the problem, but it doesn't work.
    One thing I don't think I've tried is setting up the first slide to advance "on-click" so that there's no animation before the first transition. The problem, of course, is that there's no "loading" animation to let it know when it's ready to go.
    Another thing I haven't tried but that might work is to create the movie so that it doesn't autoplay, and then, using the embed commands, set autoplay to be the full length of the movie (so that it will automatically play, but only after it's completely downloaded). Look here for the autoplay embed commands.

  • No more alpha in exported QuickTime movie from Keynote '09

    Hello
    In Keynote '08, I create a slide with no background (None).
    I add some text with some fancy text IN and OUT features.
    I export using the Animation codec and the transparency option.
    When I reimport the movie in another Keynote '08 file, it inherits the transparency of the imported file and thus everything is perfectly blended.
    In Keynote '09 it is not possible anymore.
    Even if I import an exported QuickTime movie from Motion with a transparent background, it is not possible to have a perfect blend, all layers are opaque.
    Last but not the least, adding transparent files on top of each other in QuickTime player does not preserve transparency despite the fact that the Animation + transparency features are added in the files.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hey Gary - first off, thanks for your reply! I am currently forcing spotlight to re-index to see if that might help me out. After that I will try your suggestion and run a system software check.
    I need a ProRes export as this is going to be combined with IMAG footage from a live presentation as well as additional video from an Arri Alexa. I want to preserve as much quality as possible so that there isn't a discrepancy in the final edit. Originally, I was rendering a small test to the desktop to gauge output quality of animations etc. I did go ahead and re-export a second time to an external drive, but it doesn't seem to matter as Keynote appears to initially render everything to the startup drive no matter what. The second export still ate about 15 gigs from my startup disk and I am unable to find any sort of temp files anywhere!
    I am showing all files in Finder and searching around the ~/private/tmp folders to no avail. In the image below there appears to be a discrepancy in the size being reported by finder and the size I'm seeing listed in terminal...

  • Embeded videos in keynote don't play when exported as a quicktime movie

    I have a keynote presentation with videos in it. I want to export it as a QuickTime movie but when I do the videos do not play. What do I need to do to resolve this?

    Exactly the same issue for me. Went to Snow Leopard and now the videos won't play in Iphoto. Software update is up to date, tried to manually install Quicktime again but it won't let me as it's already on the HD. Tried to delete it and try again but it doesn't seem to be working. Some help would be appreciated.

  • Black frame in embedded quicktime movies in Keynote when exporting to quicktime movie

    I've included some quicktime movies made in Photoshop in my Keynote presentation. When viewing the Keynote presentation from within keynote, the movie play perfectly. However when I export the presentation to a Quicktime move, the first or last frame of the embedded movie is black creating a flicker effect on play.
    The quicktime movies have been embedded as loopable animations using the animation build in function 'Start movie' (after transition with 0 delay).
    Is there a setting that will prevent the black frame on export or is this a bug?

  • Masking a Quicktime movie in Keynote 3.02

    I have a Quicktime movie I want to show in a presentation. I would like to mask it to hide some of the peripheral areas of the movie. I have had no problem using the Mask command to do so with pictures, but that command is grayed out when I add the Quicktime move to a Blank slide of my theme. Any suggestions.
    Mark

    The only way to mask movies is to lay an image over top of it that has transparency. This is how the photo cutout slides work. There's a slide sized image sitting on the back of the slide that has a hole punched in it. You can use an app like Photoshop to create one that matches your theme. Hope that helps.
