2.4G Mixed Mode vs N Only

I have a AE6900 router, and most of my home devices are supporting N mode, but one media device is B/G mode supported only. When I set my router to N only, most of my devices are working very well, get the maximum connection speed, however it turns down my B/G device. For use this B/G device, I have to set my router to Mixed mode, then it can be connected. However, my windows devices are cannot get the maximum connection speed after change to Mixed mode, all are dropped half.  e.g. 300Mbps drops to 150Mbps, 150Mbps drops to 65Mbps.
Anyone can explain why and provide solution, or make a suggestion to me to get the maximum value for all my devices?
Thanks,
Kevin

The B/G protocol forces the radio to fallback to the 20Mhz channel width. No way around the IEEE spec. It would be best to add an old wireless AP\Router to your network for that device.
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.

  • MBSA 2.3 Reporting SQL 32-bt instance is running in mixed mode when it is set to Integrated

I have SQL Server 2008 R2 64-bit installed.  I just finished running MBSA 2.3 it is saying that the 32-bit instance is running in mixed mode.  I only have one instance installed (64-bit).  The 64-bit is set to Windows Authenticated.
How to I fix this finding?

    Hi,
    What is output of below
    SELECT SERVERPROPERTY('IsIntegratedSecurityOnly')
    GO
    EXEC MASTER.SYS.XP_LOGINCONFIG 'LOGIN MODE'
Did you restarted SQL Server service after changing Authentication mode

When I switch my time capsule to 5.0ghz mode the range of my wireless network drops significantly.  Near the Time Capsule my Macbook Pro works fine, in my bedroom I have almost no signal.  In mixed mode it works fine both placed.  Any ideas on how to get 5.0 working?  I thought 5.0Ghz was supposed to have a wider range.  Do I need to change a setting on the Macbook Pro?
    Thanks, W

I'm not sure if you understand that 5 GHz has some upsides, but also some very significant downsides.
The upside is that the 5 GHz signal will allow faster speeds.
The downside is that you must always give up something in order to gain something else.Unfortunately, the marketing hype about 5 GHz does not go into very many details about this.
In the case of 5 GHz, the 5 GHz signals are much weaker than 2.4 GHz signals, so they do not travel as far or penetrate any obstructions like walls or ceilings nearly as well as 2.4 GHz signals. In many cases, in order to get good 5 Ghz performance, you literally have to have almost a line-of-sight relationship between your computer and the wireless router.
If you have a new dual band router, which broadcasts both a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz signal simutaneously, your Mac will connect to the best signal quality automatically depending on its location in relation to the router. In the same room, without any obstructions, it will connec to 5 GHz. But, take the laptop down the hall a few rooms and around the corner and the Mac will connect to the 2.4 GHz signal because at that location, the 2.4 GHz signal is not only stronger, it is also faster.

  • Aironet 1140N in mixed mode not working with 802.11b/g Clients

I have a new Aironet 1140N Access point , the model is number AIR-AP1142N-A-K9, my main problem in that i have Nokia E71 smartphones on the network, but they cannot connect to the Network, the Access Point SSID is not showing on the List of Available Devices if i Scan using the Phone,
All Laptops are runing Win 7 Pro and they connect quite ok, The phones (8 of them) at HotSpots connects without problems, the Spec says they are compatible with 802.11b/g and the Aironet Access point provides 802.11a/g/n.
Since the phone has the 802.11g which is compatible with the Access Point, why cant it Pick it? the Access Point is Operating in Mixed Mode.
    Bonnie

There are basically two "flavors" of WDS that the AirPorts support: static & dynamic.
o A static WDS allows for a main, relay, and remote base stations in the configuration. This only operates in the 802.11g radio mode. Its advantage is it is well suited when you are trying to cover a considerable linear range ... like a rectangular house where the Internet connection comes in at one of the shorter sides and you want wireless at the other end. The biggest disadvantage of this type of WDS is that for every base station added, you lose half the overall bandwidth.
o A dynamic WDS allows for only a single main and multiple remotes. Think of a wheel with the main at the center and the remotes as spokes of the wheel. The advantage of this type of WDS is it operates in the 802.11n radio mode and doesn't suffer a significant bandwidth loss like the static version.
As a minimum, a dynamic WDS requires two 802.11n AirPorts (or Time Capsules). You can create a static WDS with either all 802.11g AirPorts or a mix of 802.11n & 802.11g AirPorts. Note; however, you cannot create a dynamic WDS with mixed mode base stations.

  • Using n80 wlan on mixed mode n/g access point?

I have a d-link dgl-4500. I use it in mixed mode n/g. My computers can connect just fine.
If I want to get the n80 to connect, I have to first change the wireless channel to 11 and then change it to channel 1.
Then and only then will my n80 find the access point.
If I set my AP to G only, then the wlan fires right up.
I'm not an expert on wifi. Are there any advanced wifi settings I can change to help my n80 find the AP easier?
    current settings:
    2.4GHz mode
    mixed n/g mode
    2.412 CH. 1
    auto transmission rate
    20MHz channel width
    visible SSID

    RTS threshold 2346
    fragmentation threshold 2346
    DTIM 1
    short GI yes
    802.11b protection no
    Those are my current settings.

  • BOEMembership Provider - Mixed mode

    Post Author: craibuc

I need to support mixed mode (WinAD, Enterprise) authentication in my .Net application that connects to our BOE cluster.  I've been able to get Forms Authentication to work correctly, but I'm not sure how to correctly handle Windows AD SSO authentication with this Provider.  Do I need to use Forms Authentication, then somehow tell the provider to attempt WinAD authentication?  There is precious little information about this.
    Thanks,
    Craig Buchanan

    Hi !
Within Shared Services we configured several msad providers.
Sure we also have native users.
MDM only can authorize the native users although we uses mixed mode.
    thx 4 further advice

  • How to back up a Mixed Mode CD?

Does anyone know how to make an ISO out of a Mixed Mode CD? Disc Utility will only make an ISO from the data part of the disc.
I have some 15 year old games I want to back up before the CD;s goes bad and I lose them forever.

OS X doesn't use the standard /dev/cdrom location for your optical drive. Instead, the /dev/diskXsYY format is used for all disks mounted by the OS.
In order for this to work, you'll have to know where the disk you want is. Getting this info is simple, just open Terminal, and type 'diskutil list' without the quotes. This will give you a text representation of all of the disks you have mounted. To restricted the list to just the physical devices themselves, you can run 'diskutil list | grep -E [\ ]+0:' without the quotes to narrow down the listing. Either way, you're looking for the top level 'diskX' line (NOT diskXsYY) for the disc you are trying to copy.
    0: GUIDpartitionscheme *298.1 Gi disk0
    0: FDiskpartitionscheme *14.9 Gi disk1
    0: Applepartitionscheme *19.1 Gi disk2
    0: CDpartitionscheme Half-Life *706.5 Mi disk3
Depending on how many disks you have mounted, your results will vary. Once you know what disk you're looking for, the path to the disk is '/dev/diskX'.
However, it seems to be irrelevant, because attempting to run 'dd if=/dev/disk3 of=~/Desktop/TMP/Half-Life.iso' with the disk structure seen above yielded an unrecognizable iso file. This is the only disk I have laying around that I know is mixed-media, so YMMV. Good luck!

  • Mixed mode 32/64

Why is redhat the only platform not certified mix mode 64 & 32 bit?
Does anyone know of an ETA for 64bit on AS 4.0 X64?
Also, does anyone run eBusiness on AS 4.0? I'm curious to know if "split confirguation" is supported since certified says there is no support for non 32 but databases on the linux platform.
    grrrr

Its crashing on your native code (i mean not in JVM code). You should
run (or attach) the server with gdb, and see the trace.

  • Mixed mode is slow!

I purchased a WRT150N.  Works great wired, with no issues. But I have a laptop that is G and a gaming adapter that is N.  I tried to use Mixed mode on the router so I could use both G and N. However, when in mixed mode the laptop connects at only 1Mbps even right next to the router at excellent signal.  When I turn it to G-only mode it works at 54Mbps with the same settings. I would really like to use both N and G adapters. WHat is going on?

Mixed mode is fine. Set your laptop's transmit rate to 54 mbps instead of auto. If you wanna use N speeds on your N device, you have to have WPA2 aes.
The box said windows xp or better... So I installed Linux!

  • Mixed Mode (WiFi) on WRT160

Can anyone here tell me how to turn on Mixed Mode for my WRT160N, and how do I change other settings too? I am trying to use a Compact-G usb adapter, but I can't find how to do this anywhere. Edit: Also, when I try to use the disk after I have set up the router and finished installing and configuring, it doesn't start loading. Please help!!!!!

On the wireless tab of the route ... you will see modes like Moxed ,G only,A only or Disable.... Choose the proper option ... & click save settings ....

  • Wpa2 security vs. wpa2/wpa mixed mode

What's the advantage of using the "wpa2/wpa mixed mode" security setting vs. wpa2? Is the mixed mode setting as security as the wpa2 only setting?
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

WPA2 is the next generation of Wi-Fi security. It is the Wi-Fi Alliance's interoperable implementation of the ratified IEEE 802.11i standard. It implements the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) recommended Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption algorithm using Counter Mode with Cipher Block Chaining Message Authentication Code Protocol (CCMP). WPA2 facilitates government FIPS 140-2 compliance, and it is fully supported by the Cisco Wireless Security Suite..
WPA and WPA2 mixed mode operation permits the coexistence of WPA and WPA2 clients on a common SSID. WPA and WPA2 mixed mode is a Wi-Fi certified feature. During WPA and WPA2 mixed mode, the Access Point (AP) advertises the encryption ciphers (TKIP, CCMP, other) that are available for use. The client selects the encryption cipher it would like to use and the selected encryption cipher is used for encryption between the client and AP once it is selected by the client.

  • Dealing with Expired Certs in Mixed-Mode

I have done a fair amount of research on this topic and while I have deployed mixed-mode clusters, I haven't had a situation quite like the one I need to contend with in the next couple of weeks. I am trying to be as prepared as possible and am looking for feedback on some procedures I am drafting.
    The situation:
    (4) node cluster (clustering over the WAN)
TFTP is enabled on all nodes (that is going to change as a result of our assessment findings)
    Cluster is running in mixed-mode
Most certificates on the Publisher node are expired
    tomcat cert
    ipsec cert
    host-name ipsec-trust cert
    call manager cert (callmanager.pem)
    CAPF cert
    CAPF trust cert
One of the subscriber nodes is in the same boat as the Publisher node (they were deployed at the same time and were the first nodes in this cluster)
The other two nodes (in a DR datacenter) have valid certificates  (until 2016) except for the publisher node server cert (which has expired)
The publisher node and the subscriber node that has the expired certs were also installed without DNS being enabled (no domain and no DNS resolvers specified - therefore, I expect that DNS client was not enabled during install)
It is worth noting the following:
Customer enabled mixed-mode because one of the security folks got hot and heavy on encryption. However, they limited the scope to phones only. So, IP Phone to IP Phone == authenticated/encrypted. They have a Unity Connection system with secure ports and that is it. Gateways: no encryption. CCX, etc. == no encryption
During discovery we also found that LSC distribution is fubar. Only a percentage of the phones are using LSC. Likely due to a flaw in the provisioning process. That will be addressed later.
The version they are running is 6.1(3)  (base, no service releases)
The goal: Get the present solution into a VMware environment running CUCM 9.1(2). Planning on doing the Jump Upgrade procedure (interim hop to 6.1.4).
We found out about the certificate issues during our discovery phase. We have built in time to remediate the certificate issue.
The plan (well, thus far). I am still pulling together my notes and trying to come up with a way to test an implementation plan off line so that I can avoid bricking the phones (they are spread all over north america).
Here is the 10,000 foot view of the plan (obviously, the actually plan will be more detailed):
Use BAT to disable phone security and uninstall LSC
    Security Profile mod
    Certificate Ops
    Reset phones
    DRS Back up
    Download/backup current certs
    Configure DNS
    set DNS domain name
set DNS resolver (primary and secondary)
    Pub node:
    regenerate tomcat cert
    restart tomcat service
    regenerate ipsec.pem
    regenerate callmanager.pem
    regenerate capf.pem
    Sub node (repeat above)
?should we update the Subs not affected by the cert issue?
Run the CTL client and update CTL
    Reboot servers
    Pub then Subs
Phones will reset as a result of this process
The customer has said that they are actually fine with the idea of going back to square one and start over with provisioning a secured (mixed-mode) cluster after the 9.1 upgrade. That would be great except that if I uninstall LSCs, change phones to non-secure, and use CTL client to change back to standard-mode, I still have the CTLs left on the phones. No way to bulk delete them in UCM. I am considering using something like UnfiedFX to help me get back to square 1. Right now, I consider this a plan B. Unless feedback to this thread and other research suggests a different tact.
Thanks in advance for any assist.
    -Bill

    Hi William,
You have a quite a few requirements here. Just to clear things up, there are two type of certificates, first is called "certificate trust", and the other is called "Certificate".  For the trust certificates such as Callmanager_trust you can just click on the certificate, make sure that it is expired, and then delete it. this has no impact on the phones. The other type of certificate is called "Certs", you will need to regenerate those certificates, This will regenerate the certificate and also recreates the new "CAPF-trust" or "CallManager-trust" certificates with new date/time ranges.
Doing the above will not impact the phones are the services, however after regenerating the certificates, you will need to restart all the services related to this certificate, for example if you regenerate the tftp certificate, you will need to restart the tftp service on all the servers in the cluster. Same for the Callmanager and the Tomcat.
Please note that whenever you regenerate the Call manager certificate, you will need to run the CTL client with the same Token you used when the server was changed to mixed mode.
In General the below is the procedure to regenerate the certificate
    - log into the "Cisco Unified OS Administration" page of the publisher
    - choose Security>Certificate Management
    - click the link for the expiring certificate
    - click "Regenerate"
    - restart the service that uses the certificate
That will regenerate the certificate on the publisher. Within the next
10-15 minutes, the updated certificate will  be propagated
    to the subscribers.

  • No mixed mode

    Hi,
I'm having trouble getting Java to run in mixed mode on Linux (same behavior was observed on Solaris/SPARC). When I open a shell, typing "java -version" will tell me that Java is in mixed mode. If I run my application, however, it'll run extremely slowly, and after execution typing "java -version" will tell me that Java is in intepreted mode. Comparing execution times to those on a similar machine running Windows 2000 shows that my application is executing in interpreted mode. I haven't been able to figure out why. Does anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone encountered this before?
    Thanks for your time.
    -Lujo

The only options I pass to Java are -Xmixed (no effect) and a bunch of -D flags. I took out the -Xms... and -Xmx... options but to no avail. The output is just the debug output from my code, nothing more.

  • K9VGM-V Problem with RAM mixed mode

    Hi,
I am having K9VGM -V motherboard. I was operating it in single mixed mode with a 512 Mb DDR2 533MHz + 1G DDR2 663Mhz, with BIOS version 1.0. I upgraded my CPU to Athlon X2 4000+. For this I had to upgrade my BIOS to version 1.8. After this upgrade I am not able to use both RAM modules simultaneously. Its giving continuous beep sound if I try to start computer when both RAMs are in.
System is working like charm when operating in only one RAM. But I don't want to waste the other RAM module. Can some one please help me, if there is some setting I need to do to use both of my RAMs together.

I don't want to restore my phone or buy a new one or pay for repairs because that's wasting money when it could be a simple way to fix it. And yes, I've also tried charging it and turning it in. I really need some help with my phone

That does happen.  It depends on how hard the server is being hit, as well as the connection speed of your system.  If you are on a windows system, you will want to disable any antivirus or firewall software during the download.
