2.4ghz Macbook Vista X86 problems
Hey all, I'm having a bit of trouble with my Macbook running vista X86. Wondering if anyone can help.
I'm having problems accessing the control panel for windows. Pretty much every time I start it up I get an empty window. When I right click on the desktop and go to personalise, nothing happens at all.

Was wondering if anyone's had any similar experiences using vista and if there's any way of fixing it.

I have the same problem. After three installs of Vista x86, i have successfully used my purchased OSX dvd to install the drivers onto Vista (bootcamp version 2.1). YETTTTT none of the drivers work. I have no internet, no track pad, no video...nothing. I have been searching for about 5 hours for anyone with the same issues, and i find nothing. I just think the new versions are not supported yet. hoy hoy?!
ps. i also tried with windows XP, using 2.0 Bootcamp, and 2.1.....as well as installing 2.0 first...blah blah.. nothing worked.
Apple really is not prepared with boot camp i am disappointed to say.

How did you install Windows? Did you use Bootcamp Assistant or did you use a virtual machine like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox.
If you used Bootcamp Assistant, did you download and install the Windows Support software (drivers) in accordance with the Bootcamp instructions? -

I bought in december of 2008 a 2.4ghz macbook pro and I think the gpu is starting to fail. Can I still be covered for a change because of the faulty nvidia gpu?

My MacBook pro was working fine with my Internet at home and then out of nowhere it disconnected and now it won't connect and says alert: no Internet connection.... Is this a hardware problem or easily fixed??
POSSIBLE SOLUTION! OK. I had this problem on my sister's macbook pro when I was beside her connected to my macbook! The problem was the WAN network, but there is a simple solution, you might just have to play around with it. Try the following. Just one will work. If you try the first and it doesn't work continue down the list.
1. Enter a dollar sign before you enter the password to the wifi network (i.e. $abcd1234)
2. Enter a zero-x before the password (i.e. 0xabcd1234 OR 0Xabcd1234) The x may be lower case or capital.
3. Put the password in quotation marks (i.e. "abcd1234").

I just spent 30 min on the phone with apple care (that she paid for!) and the guy told me there was nothing I could do but call my internet provider and have them change the WEP to WPA2. While this might not be a bad idea, it was not ideal and did not help with the online work she needed to do tonight for her job as it was after hours for my internet company. The guy from apple care who was surprisingly rude said it was just a know issue that macs had and nothing could be done. Funny how my daughter and I were both on the same network on our MACs! And have always used that network on our MACs! Sorry just had to vent but the above worked for me! -
USMT restore from Windows XP sp3 x86 to Vista x86 service pack 1 - USMT error code 36

We have been unable to restore user profile from Windows XP sp3 x86 to Vista x86 service pack 1 using USMT .
we keep receiving errors, see log below.
We have taken the backup from the windows xp several times, and Googled high and low for an answer - cannot get it to work.
We have used this sane command method on several windows xp to windows 7 migrations , without any issues.
please help

USMTGUI 5.0.3, which I understand uses latest version of windows USMT ( 6.3) .
When I try using USMT 6.2 from AIKTOOLS to restore the profile using this command , i get a different error. I have even tried adding /hardlink /nocompress and restoring profile from portable hard drive instead of NAS, and getting a different

There is no additional peripherals except that I ordered from the apple store to upgrade my 1G still working memory SDRMA 667MHz

NOT MUCH.. if my SoundBlaster Li've 5. can work in Windows 95 or a Old SoundBlaster from back in the mid 90s could work in XP then there should be Drivers for VISTA.. I think what your guys are trying do do is a this CASH CRAB and this is not Right. SO

We will release Vista drivers for the products we stated we are releasing Vista drivers for on the Vista driver chart. To my knowledge we are currently meeting all legal obligations pertaining to Vista driver support. If this is not satisfactory to you you can feel free to contact Customer Support with your suggestion to release drivers for older products. Since Apple says that some copy protected DVD's will not function with Disk Sharing, you may need to "clone" the DVD, using the MBP, to a flash drive, and use the flash drive to perform the installation of the software.
Another alternative is to download and install the Trial version from the Microsoft Office For Mac website, and then use the activation code provided with the DVD to activate the full version install of the trial. -

VIsta Wireless Problems with New FIOS Install July 2009
I recently had FIOS telephone, INternet andTV intstalled. All was well except on my Vitsa laptop I cannot maintain a steady wireless conneciton with the Actiontec MI424WR router. I hit the Web and found out that many have had this complaint and that there is an ongoing conversation about whose fault the problem is. I had flawless service under TIme- Warner with my Vista Wireless so I did not intially assign blame to Vista or my laptop. I do recall the Verizon installer mentinoed "problems with Vista" but he did not elaborate. I spent all day yesterday researching and attempting every fix suggested on numerous web sites. All failed except one.
Essentially, I now use my LinkSys Router in front of the Actiontec MI424WR router. I found the instructions to do this on numerous web sites after researching FIOS Vista wireless problems. The LinkSys router handles only wireless. Now my Vista laptop never drops a connection. I still have acess to FIOS TV guide and on demand so the fix did not interfere with FIOS router TV functions.
THe bottom line is that it would appear that there is a problem with the Actiontec MI424WR router and Vista. Fortunately for me I had the Linksys ROuter available. Verizon - you need to look into this. Based on what I have experienced I cannot recommend FIOS internet for those with VIsta computers until tjhis is addressed.
From what I have researched, Verizon claims it is a Vista problem. Beta testors of WIndows 7 have reported the same issues with FIOS and Actiontec MI424WR router. My experience and that of others who have devised the fix I employed would clearly suggest that Verizon needs to look into this and get this problem solved.
Steve B.My neighbor had a similar issue. When trying to figure it out we found out that there is a problem with some of the Intel drivers when connecting to some g class routers. We upgraded the wireless drivers on the computer and bingo the problem went away. This was on an Intel-R pro wireless. If you have Intel-R pro wireless on your computer, try upgrading to the current driver set and see if that helps you too.
