2.5gb RAM vs 2.0gb RAM which is fater?

iMac memory....
I am wondering about the 128-bit data path. If the DIMMs aren't matched, then it uses a 64-bit data path. So, in theory if I only use one 2gb stick, will it use 128 or 64-bit data path and / or will I notice a performace difference?

From what I have read, the difference is negligible, maybe only a 10% difference which would not be enough to notice except in benchmarks.
Two GB of RAM is an awful lot of RAM. Unless your needs are extremely RAM intensive, that will likely be enough. The 2GB chips are too pricey for me.

  • E430 - System shows only 2.5GB RAM, I have 4GB installed.

    Hello.
I have an E430 with Core i5 Ivy Bridge, 4GB RAM, onboard graphics. OS is Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit. No components have been installed or replaced since purchase.
The problem is, system only shows I have 2.5GB RAM total. In BIOS it correctly shows 4096GB RAM installed.
People suggested it might be the graphics allocating the rest of the RAM (which makes sense in a way, since I read at some other places that max. RAM for the graphics is set around ~1.5GB). And they suggested I should look in the BIOS for a setting which would influence this. I found none.
I got some info about the graphics using a command, and it shows:
    Memory at f0000000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4M]
    Memory at e0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
That does not look like allocating 1.5GB RAM to me.
    Also there is this:
    Kernel driver in use: i915
    Is that the right driver?
Does anyone know whether it is really the GPU allocating way too much RAM? How could I stop it or make the currently-unused RAM available to the system again? Or is there another problem, not linked to GPU?
    Thanks.

Free ram isn't the on,y ram that's available to run programs http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1342
BUT.....2gb is the bare minimum for running Lion, you need at least 4gb in reality. Your computer will run better with 4gb.

  • What is the mximum ram which logic 8.02 supports

hi this is kamal from hyderabad INDIA.I`am using Logic 8.02 on intel mac dual core*2 2.66 Ghz. please do anyone inform me that what is the highest amount of ram which logic 8.02 supports.

    hi kamal,
logic itself won't access more than 3.7 Gb at a time, but the application and the plugs don't really need that much, even on really big projects. the only exception to this is apple loops which for technical reasons have to be stored in RAM.
the only reason you may be interest in RAM for logic (more than the 3.7 Gb limit) is if you are running big orchestral libraries. if you have more than 5 Gb of RAM installed, the EXS will be able to access that physical RAM outside of logics memory space. that means you can have 4Gb (well at least 3.7) of samples loaded per instance of EXS. vienna instruments and the new PLAY fro EWQLSO can do the same thing.
the other alternative is to run your sample libraries as standalone applications outside of logic. but we really are talking about very big libraries now. if you have a big library you want to run, and it is on the exs, then you can install more than 5Gb and you whould be very happy.
native instruments DFD will allow you to decide how much of the library is streamed and how much is loaded into RAM. that is a good way of optimizing as well.

  • Slow boot up on - Intel 2GHz iMac Core Duo 1.5GB Ram

    Hi,
I have just bought a 27" iMac (FANTASTIC!) and decided to give my old one to my girlfriend. My old one is a 2GHz Intel 20" iMac with 250GB HDD and 1.5GB Ram. It was working fine before I decided to clean it down and give it her.
I have just installed Snow Leopard (a fresh erase and install in order to clean everything from my old machine) and it is now taking a very long time for it to boot up. I get the grey Apple screen and then it moves on to a blank blue screen and stays that way for an age - about 5 minutes. Eventually it does boot up and it works fine once it has. The machine has a clean install of Snow Leopard and I have used Disk Utility to Verify and Repair permissions. I have deleted /Library/Preferences too and nothing seems to make it any quicker.
Any ideas please? I am rather at a loss! She is beginning to doubt me that Mac's are better!!
    Thanks
    Mark

I made note of the possible fix below. I have never tried the fix. I can't take any responsibility if you try the fix and things get worse in any way. Here is what was posted elsewhere, paraphrased, in regard to slow start up and shut down.
Ownership of my root directory (/) wasn't assigned to the root account for some reason, but to the administrator. This scenario made the kernel prelinking fail since it requires that root is the owner. To fix, launch Terminal and type the following commands exactly as below:
    sudo chown root:admin /
    sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel
    sudo kextcache -system-caches
You'll have to enter your password after the first command.
V.K. is likely to see this post. You may want to see what he has to say about the possible fix.

  • Recently Upgraded to leopard on 1.5ghz powerbook 1.5gb ram

    hi
i upgraded to leopard a couple of months ago which caused problems when i did archive and install. there were some bugs with Mail that would not quit. so them i did a clean install and now slowly adding the software needed.
everything seems to run ok except a speed issue. viewing videos have become quite slow even low quality videos on you tube. watching videos on a file offline is also very slow. i have also added more ram to 1.5gb as before it was 756mb.
has anyone gone backward to Tiger after upgrading to leopard because of having an old machine? sometimes i am tempted, but i have made backups with Time Machine already and file transfering has become a chore with large film files!
what can i do to improve the performance of this machine? should i downgrade?
i like some of the smaller new features of leopard, and it would be a shame to lose that as already it hase been useful in my work.
    what should i do?

    Hi,
How much free disk space is there?
To check how much free space is available on your startup disk:
    1. In Finder™, select your startup disk's icon. For most users, this is Macintosh HD.
    2. Press the Command-I keyboard combination.
    3. The Get Info window for your startup disk will open. In the General pane, the Capacity, Available (free space), and space Used on your startup disk will be displayed there.
Go here and make sure your PBook specs meet the minimum requirements to run Leopard.
And keep in mind, Leopard requiress 9GB of free disk space.

  • 4G RAM which one is the best to me ?

    Hi,
I live in Netherlands right now and i'm looking to upgrade my new laptop HP Pavilion G6-2051sd from 6G to 8G,
tired to find which RAM is the best to my laptop there is to many types ?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

According to page 38 of the Service and Manual guide, there are only two memory modules that have been tested and confirmed to work in this particular notebook.
If you wish to purchase this from HP, then you can do so at this link. If it does not load, you can use the 641369-001 part number to search for it. You will need two to achieve 8GB of RAM.

  • Maximum RAM which can be fitted?

I have a Powerbook G4 17 inch, serial number W8*******QRV which currently has 1Gb. of RAM fitted.
I have tried to fit 2 x 1Gb. of DDR1 333MHz. PC - 2700 (SODIMM) but have had no success.
The laptop does not give memory error beeps, but instead displays a request to power off and re-start in English, French, German and Japanese.
Is this machine somehow limited as to how much RAM it can accept, or is tyhere something else which is preventing a successful upgrade?
I know that it is an old machine, but it still functions very well for my purposes.
Any assistance would be gratefully received.
    <Edited by Host>

The maximum RAM for that PowerBook model is 2GB; there appears to be a problem with one of the RAM modules installed.

  • System Profile= 5.5GB RAM  but Activity Viewer= 1.5GB RAM ???

I've been running 1.5GB of ram on my G5 Dual 2GHz for a couple years. I'm running 10.3.9.
I just purchased and installed 4GB of RAM from Crucial.
Why is the System Profile showing 5.5GB and the Activity Viewer still showing 1.5GB?

Does that explain why the Activity Monitor periodically (just noticed it) changes back and forth the amount of total RAM being 1.5GB and 5.5GB! Is the AM only showing the newly added RAM when the free RAM and the Inactive RAM gets too low? That would seem odd.
The AM has always shown the total RAM as 1.5GB (since I bought the computer). that is why I assumed that the AM shows the total physical RAM by the number under the pie chart. Now I see that number usually bieng 1.5GB and then briefly showing 5.5GB.

I have an iMac 8.1 - 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 1Gb Ram. I wish to upgrade to OS Lion which requires 2Gb RAM. Which 2Gb card would be the most suitable .

    Go to crucial.com
Enter your specs, and buy as much as it'll hold. You'll be happy you did. I've been using them for years. Great company, and the best value for RAM in my opinion. And you don't want to mess with cheap RAM. It can mess EVERYTHING up...

  • I have a Compaq Mini CQ10-400CA and I want to upgrade the RAM - which can I use?

I want to upgrade the RAM from 1 gig to 2gig on my Compaq Mini CQ10-400CA - the question is which ram can I use?  I was told my HP the ram was DDR2 800mhz.  Now I have seen this :
    http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148162
At Newegg in Canada.  This looks like it fits the bill, but I don't want to buy it and have it shipped and find out differently.  Anyone know if this is a good route to go?  It is cheap and it is Crucial, so at least it is reliable.
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, that is the correct information you have...You will need DDR2 800 MHz PC2-6400 Memory...I have never used or heard about Crucial, I would suggest going for kingstron or corair and I am kind of 50/50 when it comes to A-DATA...This based on listed on newegg.ca

  • Adding RAM - which slot has original 64?

When I bought my flower power imac 500 mhz I added ram. It was originally supposed to come with two 64 mg slots but I had 128 installed bringing it up to 192. Thought back then this was enough : ) . I want to add RAM but don't know which one is the 64 Mg one. Would it be the bottom or the top one. I tried to read the labels and it doesn't seem to say on it. One does have a blue stickey dot on it. I was thinking this is the larger one. It is on the top when you are looking inside the slot in the back. Anyone know if there is anyway to tell. Don't want to take the wrong one out.

    Hello Kathy,
Go into System Profiler. Click on Memory. It will
show the two slots. On my 400MHz the two slots
are J13 and J14. J13 is the TOP slot. Hope this helps.

  • Z68A-G43G3 Won't Post with Proc and RAM which work on my ASUS board

I bought two i7-2600K procs and a z68-G43 G3 board, along with an ASUS board because the store didn't have a second MSI board.  The CPU and RAM (Kingston DDR3 - 1600) work fine on the ASUS board, as I built that one first.  When I boot up the MSI board I don't get the normal bios screen, I get a message which says
    EFI Shell version 2.10[4.640]
    Current running mode 1.1.2
map: cannot find required map name.
Press ESC in _ seconds to skip startup.nsh, any other key to continue.
    Shell>
Since I bought the board and left town for a project, I built the system after the 15 day return period offered by the store, so I am here since I cannot take it back.  Is this a BIOS issue?  I assume that since I cannot get past this point that I cannot flash the bios, but wanted to get some opinions here.  I am in a bit of a time crunch and don't want to spend money on a new board if I don't have to.
    Please help!

Problolem solved.  I placed the RAM in the same slot order as instructed on the ASUS, but the MSI suggested order was different.  I am putting on my dunce cap now.
Can you elaborate on what you mean? I am receiving this same issue and I am not sure what to do. I plan on swapping the 2 RAM DIMMS when I return from my business trip; however, I am skeptical that it will resolve the issue since the 2 DIMMS are identical. Specifically, the components are:
MSI FM2-A75MA-P33 FM2 AMD A75 (Hudson D3) SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
    Team Dark Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory (Blue Heat Spreader)

  • IPhone 5S & 64-Bit Advantage If It's Only Got Less than 5GB RAM?

Hi. It's great Apple's using it's might to advance technology (service to mankind essentially, which means Steve is most likely, up there- made life easier for mankind:). The fingerprint is great to see. There'll be no more need for passwords for sure (but Apple must create it's own Twitter and Facebook coz' that's where passwords are used most of the time, all over the world. It must almost an exact copy of that which they can refine better, later and not be too different like the failed iTunes one). It's good it's there, 64-bit will give more flexibility and it's got the only 64-Bit phone but isn't 64-bit's advantage only good for those having 5GB memory which the 5S doesn't have? Is it unnecessary for mobile phones?
    Thanks for the time.
