2 6509-e going from HSRP to VSS and ESXi v5.1

Hello,
I am in the process to move to VSS in two Cisco 6509-e with SUP-2T and maybe there is out there some guidelines of what needs to be configure in the ESXi host. The VSS doc state that every hosts, servers, or network device should join the VSS using a MEC.
Should I do that for the ESXi host as well. Anyone knows how to do that in the ESXi hosts?
Rigth now the two 6509-e are running HSRP, and there is no trunk or port-channel configure for all 6 uplinks (3 in each 6509) coming from ESXi hosts.
Let me know if more info is needed.
Thanks
Alex

Sorry, meant to include this in the mothership question.

  • My apple tv keeps losing internet connection. I'm going from modem to airport and from airport to apple tv. I've replaced the modem and the apple tv and it still does it. Internet to my laptop via the airport wifi is fine and never drops out.

I keep having to restart it every time I want to use it. Sometimes I have to restart it multiple times. The cord goes from the cable modem to the airport and then from the airport to the apple tv. I've replaced the apple TV and I've replaced the modem and the problem persists. I assume it has to be the aiport? But the wifi from the airport works fine.
I tried bypassing the airport and going straight from the modem to the apple tv and it wouldn't work. That makes no sense to me.
I had a friend over to try and figure it out and he couldn't. Any idea what could be the problem??

The Ethernet cable from the modem should be connected to the AirPort's WAN (circle of dots) port and a second Ethernet cable should be connected between the AirPort's LAN (opposing arrows) port and the Ethernet port on the Apple TV. Is this the case?
If so, what is the make & model of the modem that the AirPort is connected to. Also what is the exact model of both the AirPort and the Apple TV?

  • Trying to update and my nano screen goes from color to black and white...

Last time this happened I lost all of the information on my ipod.
I was trying to get my newly purchased music from itunes to my nano. I couldn't. The help sections told me to update my ipod. I'm currently trying to update with 2006-03-23 and the screen still says "initializing" and actually as I type this the screen that says initializing appears frozen (although I've learned apple stuff is weird because it appears frozen but it's not). How long should this take? Is there something I'm doing wrong? Why does my ipod screen go from color to black and white? Do I need to redo anything? Do I need to reset my nano?
Please help with the ******** mac user (I've always used Windows and I am lost in the mac world apparently when it comes to ipods)

Can you get the exact wording for that error? Is it can't mount iPod?
Also, make sure iTunes is up to date...

Finally, make sure your iPod's battery is charged up.

  • Can I typeset Chinese in InDesign CC? The text goes from top to bottom and right to left.

    Hi!
Can I typeset Chinese in InDesign CC? I have downloaded the Chinese version of InDesign CC, but couldn't get the text to go from top to bottom and right to left. Do I need to download some sort of plug-in for this type of work?
    Thanks!

There's little to nothing Adobe Reader can do about this.
The free Adobe Reader cannot create PDF, cannot export PDF page content and cannot manipulate PDF page content.
What is "on" a PDF reflects what was "printed" to PDF from back in the authoring file.
It is within the authoring file where you must make adjustments.
A related "source" issue is what label stock is specifically supported by the authoring application.
While all vendors claim their stuff is alway the same as your stuff that is often not the case.
A 1/64 th of an inch or less difference will put a wooden shoe in the works.
    Be well...

  • HT4060 I have my Ipad Air connected to its charger and it is plugged in to an electrical outlet. The battery icon keeps going from green to white and a message comes up and says "This accesory may not be supported" ...I just purchased it on March 1, 2014

My iPad Air is not charging. I have it plugged into an electrical outlet with the charger it came with. The battery icon keeps changing from green to white and a message...Accesory May Not Be Supported keeps coming up on the screen. I just purchased it on March 1, 2014 and this is very annoying.

you are using the cable and charger that came with it?
you have charged successfully with them before?
you are under warranty, so I suggest you make an appointment with a genius at the Apple Store and have them look at it.  Sometimes the charger plug is faulty.

  • My iphone keeps flickering on the load up screen and my screen goes from blue to black and keeps flickering any solutions?

as i said my iphone keeps flickering on the load up screen the apple logo goes back and forth and the screen changes colour from black to blue, help!?

You don't say which year it is, but if it's a 13" you're not having a common GPU that some 2010 and 2011 15" models are having.
Since reinstalling the OS didn't help, I'm afraid that the only real choice you have is to take the machine to your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them run diagnostics on the machine. It's likely a screen problem, rather than a logic board problem (although that's always a possibility).
The testing is free as if the estimate for repair. There's really nothing else you can do yourself at this point.

  • My iPhone 3GS battery goes from 65% to nothing and crashes. What cani I do?

AFter my battery gets to around 65% it just shuts down. What can I do to fix this problem?

My 3GS is almost 2yrs old and only has 1 small minor crack next to the dock connector.  It's barely even noticeable.
Going through 10 seperate devices in 2yrs is ridiculous.  I could see 3 or 4 being bad luck... 10 is the user being too rough on the device.
Frankly, your posting is the first I've heard of "Apple using inferior materials".  If that were truly the case, there would be postings all over the Internet and it would be big news on TV and in the papers.  You saw the fiasco over the supposed antenna issue on the iPhone4, correct?
If you are going to continue to use iPhones, I would strongly suggest you get an Otterbox case to keep it in and never remove it from the case.

  • Music going from loud to low and b

I've checked the boards to see if anyone else had the same problem, but no such luck. I have the Audigy 2 Zs with Creative 5. speakers. Wheather playing games or listing to music the volume goes up then down to the point you can't hear it then it starts all over again. I've removed the drivers/software and reinsatalled drivers/software and the problems persists.Any help would be appreciati've.

    Johnnyny,
How long have you owned the speakers? I have seen failing remote control pods on some of the speaker sets cause such an issue. Can you confirm if it is the soundcard volume changing or the speakers?

  • Very slow going from email to email and also deleting is very slow?

when I drop down to next email it is very slow and when I delete or open emails it is very slow??? It happen on desk top at home and laptop when I am away from home so I don't think it is the computer(s)?

well, during internet rush hours, for example, from dusk to mid-night, monday to friday, it is really common there. you can try some alternative there, I.E. 7/8/9, google chrome 10.x to have some test.

  • When I plug my iPad into a wall circuit and leave it for 18 hours the battery level only goes from 55% to 66% and then it quotes charging. Is this normal or do I have trouble with my adapter, it is the one that came with the iPad?

When I plug my Ipad into a wall circut it will not fully charge, It only charges up to 66% does anyone no why?

I can't tell you why it is doing this but it should not take anywhere near that long to recharge.
Try another power adapter if you have access to one - borrow one from a friend, try another wall socket, another cable ... take it to an Apple Store and let them try to charge it for you.
You can try resetting the iPad and see if that helps but I have my doubts - but it will not hurt anything either.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Your battery gauge may be giving you an incorrect reading - but I think that would be a long shot as well. How many hours of use do you get at 66%?
You can read this about the iPad battery and how to maintain and care for the battery. .

    This copied from the site
    Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).

  • Going from LR to PS and then into RAW

So I start editing all pic's in LR, then I want to do work in PS CS6. When I say edit in PS CS6 it skips RAW and go's right to PS. How do I get to RAW from PS screen?

You could choose Edit In>Open as Smart Object in Photoshop.
Then if you want to open camera raw after the file is in photoshop, double click on Layer thumbnail in the layers panel.

  • Going from WD to ITS and back from ITS to WD.

    Hi Experts,
    My requirement is:
1: Call a standard transaction from WD in a Web Browser. How to do it ?
As per my understanding, i have made an Internet Service with calls the standard transaction which is WEB HTML enabled. I have published this Internet Service on the ITS and when i execute this service, it works. But problem again is, is there a standard function module to call the internet service.
2: How to come from ITS server back to WD + the data transfer should occur between them ?
Kindly let me know this ASAP.
    Hoping for  some good response.
    Cheers!
    Ashish.

    Hi,
the integration of WDA and ITS is not officially supported.
For an inofficial workaround, take a look at Andrey Alimovs two weblogs.

I'm VERY happy with the results (fast!). However, the really strange thing is this - there is now a thin yellow line, way over on the right side of the screen, which goes from top to bottom, and stays there no matter where I go or what I do. I've never seen anything like this! It was not there before I did the upgrades. Anyone out there ever heard of such a preposterous thing ~ or have any ideas on how to get rid of it?

The problem is well explored with much guidance on what to do and where to go.

  • I am looking for a way to efficiently move from HSRP to GLBP.

I want to move from using HSRP to GLBP and encountering issues with making it a smooth transition.  I am testing my plans using GNS3
Our two external production routers are configured to use HSRP and the current traffic demands are taking a toll on the primary router.  The primary HSRP router's CPU is running above 70% while the standby router is hovering in the 20's.  The main reason is the firewalls are running High Availability Load Sharing (Sidewinders) so each firewall is able to transmit / receive data.  Our routers are setup in a BGP multihome configuration with the ISP.  The upstream routers are associated with the same AS.  Each side has maximum-path 2 enabled within the BGP process.  The two firewalls associate a multicast mac address with a vIP.  Each router has a static arp entry for the firewall vIP multicast address allowing them to send traffic they receive from the world to the firewall pair.  The firewalls then decide if they will accept the traffic or defer to the other.  Unfortunately I cannot upgrade the NPE's on the external routers (NPE-400) so the next best thing is to try and distribute the load coming from the two firewalls.  I hope to get both routers running in the mid 50’s which aren’t great but it's better than the current situation.  I've been told money is coming but you know how that goes.
Here is my glbp scheme I want to implement
R1 (This will be my AVG)
track 20 interface g2/0 line-protocol (Gi2/0 is the external interface)
interface gi0/0 (Serves as the gateway interface for the Firewalls)
glbp 10 ip 10.1.1.1 (fictitious address)
    glbp 10 timers 5 15
    glbp 10 weighting 100 lower 90 upper 95
    glbp 10 load-balancing host-dependent
    glbp 10 authentication md5 key-string #######
    glbp 10 weighting track 20 decrement 20
glbp 10 forwarder preempt delay minimum 5
    R2
track 20 interface g2/0 line-protocol (Gi2/0 is the external interface)
interface gi0/0 (Serves as the gateway interface for the Firewalls)
glbp 10 ip 10.1.1.1 (fictitious address)
    glbp 10 timers 5 15
glbp 10 priority 95 (the interface physical ip address on this router is greater than the one on R1)
    glbp 10 weighting 100 lower 90 upper 95
    glbp 10 load-balancing host-dependent
    glbp 10 authentication md5 key-string #######
    glbp 10 weighting track 20 decrement 20
glbp 10 forwarder preempt delay minimum 5
Initially I thought this would be simple to transition from HSRP to GLBP.  I would remove the standby ip ip-address command from the interface and replace it with the glbp ip ip-address command.  The interface would already be configured with the other glbp commands prior to making the change.  I thought this method would also aid in the event I had to roll back to HSRP due to something I didn't account for in testing.
When I attempt to execute the above command sequence, the router reports the virtual IP address is being used by another application on the interface.  I tried shutting down the interface and rerun the sequence with no success.  To get around this obstacle, I remove all standby commands from the interface by entering either no standby 1 or no standby.
So here is what I am thinking.  On the day of moving from HSRP to GLBP, I will have a console connection to both routers.
    On R2
shutdown interface g0/0 since this router is designated as the HSRP standby router and paste the following commands into the router
    track 20 interface g2/0 line-protocol
    interface gi0/0
    no standby 1
    glbp 10 ip ip-address
    glbp 10 timers 5 15
    glbp 10 priority 95
    glbp 10 weighting 100 lower 90 upper 95
    glbp 10 load-balancing host-dependent
    glbp 10 authentication md5 key-string #######
    glbp 10 weighting track 20 decrement 20
glbp 10 forwarder preempt delay minimum 5
While this is occurring, on router #1 which is the primary hsrp router, paste the following commands in
    track 20 interface GigabitEthernet2/0 line-protocol
    interface GigabitEthernet0/0
    no standby 1
    glbp 10 ip ip-adddress
    glbp 10 timers 5 15
    glbp 10 weighting 100 lower 90 upper 95
    glbp 10 load-balancing host-dependent
    glbp 10 authentication md5 key-string ######
    glbp 10 weighting track 20 decrement 20
glbp 10 forwarder preempt delay minimum 5
Once the commands are pasted into Router #1, enable the interface on Router #2 and monitor GLBP with the following debug commands enabled on both routers.
    debug glbp events
    debug glbp errors
My test runs using GNS seem to run well.  I know I am going to interrupt traffic and I scheduled network downtime to perform the change.  I am anticipating total downtime to be less than 5 minutes.
Does this approach sound logical or is there a better method to transition from HSRP to GLBP?
    thanks in advanced.

p.lagatta wrote:Jon, Thanks for the reply.  The Siderwinder Firewalls associate a Multicast MAC address with the vIP.  That's the reason for the static ARP entry in each router.  Since our Layer II switches located between the firewalls and routers do not register the MAC with a specific port, both firewalls receive the traffic.  Once the traffic reaches the firewalls, they pass information across a heartbeat interface and the selection process is based on odd / even ports.  Receive traffic is already working in this configuration.  Both our external routers are peered with two EBGP routers located in the same AS.  The GLBP implementation will allow us to load balance the traffic each firewall is sending to the GW address.
    Perhaps i'm misunderstaning.
If there is one mac-address then GLBP will assign that mac-address to one of the routers and it will keep that router for forwarding the traffic with the same mac-address. So the traffic will always be forwarded by the same router. GLBP works by assigning different source mac-addresses to different routers within the same group but it sounds like the source mac-address is always the same from the firewalls.

  • Need for HSRP in VSS

    Hello
I am new to VSS i have been through the configuration and features of VSS. I have an experience of configuring VSS on 4500-X switches. Configuration was pretty straight and good.
But i want to know what is the advantage in configuring HSRP when there is VSS. As per my understanding the same configuration which is on primary/Active switch will be on passive switch if it goes down including the hostname. In this case what is that i can do with HSRP.
Can anyone tell me does that really make sense if we configure HSRP in VSS environment will that be of any advantage?

Oh, think situations where you want/need more than two routers in a HSRP group or where you might need to replace the whole VSS setup.
