2 camera audio synch method?

Hi...I've got video footage from 2 cameras and want to only use the audio from one of them. How can I synch up the 2nd video to the audio file and intermittently use some of it's footage and switch back and forth between the two views?

Len,
You will probably find it easiest if you put Video A in the timeline on Track v1 (with audio a1/a2) and then put Video B on top of it on timeline Track v2 (with audio a3/a4). Then, using sound as your guide, move one of the videos to the left or right in the timeline to line it up with the other video. It's fussy, meaning you do a bunch of trial & error, but it can be done. Listen closely, your ears will tell you when the sound tracks are lined up.
Once you have them sync'd, put a marker on the Timeline and on each clip (v1, v2, a1, a2, a3, a4) all at the very same location. That way if you ever accidently bump them out of alignment, you have a quick way to realign them. Then just mute the audio for video B (tracks a3/a4). After that, you can edit to your heart's content to switch back & forth between the two video tracks.

  • Audio synch issues in QT

My project displays fine in PE8. No audio synch issues in the preview. After outputting the project to a quicktime movie withe LAN setting the audio becomes seems to run faster than the video, becoming more and more out of synch as the movie plays. Any ideas what might cause such an issue?

The Stream info in MPEG streamclip for files from both cameras gives me this info:
    Bitrate: 30.31 Mpbs
    Video Tracks:
    DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, 720x480, 16:9, 29.9699999999999 fps, 28.77 Mbps
    Audio Tracks:

I don't know if this helps.

  • HDV audio synch error upon capture

I'm having issues with audio synch capture issues.
I set the project settings for HDV 1080i30(60i) - I accepted the defaults of preset, I specified Canon in Device Control
I captured two clips...each ~ 20 minutes in length.  Both have audio synch issues.
Both clips captured footage that included a blank spot(s) in the tape...ie. the timecode was reset when I removed the tape from the camcorder during the trip.
Both captured clips have odd bright red video footage inserted for a second or two (is that an error signal?) in various places.
Both show the following error message:
F;\Video\Project1\Clip 02.mgegError in MPEG stream detected around frame 3502
(there are ~20 such error messages in the Events panel)
    Suggestions?
    Thanks, in advance.

    Thanks for your continued advice.
Doing the resiz in camera makes a lot of sense.  My only concern is not wanting to do my edits and titling for a large project twice (i.e. once for DVD version and later for a BR version).  I know there's some feature of Prem. that allows substitute clips...work on low-res & replace with high-res...but I'm a rookie on that front.  Is there a term for that?
As mentioned earlier, I was willing to try doing a manual capture process in order to work around the timecode breaks.  But I'm running into issues, again.  The first clip ~2 minutes - no problem.  The second clip ~35 minutes - big problems...error reports of dropped frames...must be on portions of the tape other than my timecode breaks.  Also, the thing can't complete the Conforming Clip 02b.mpeg process.  It starts...makes progress...grinds to a halt mid-way...and renders Prem "Non Responsive".
It's feeling like this HDV full res process has lots of gotcha's.  I'm wondering how folks get through it.

  • What does "Audio Synch" in Creative Media Source actually

    Does Audio Synch
. Make the data on the micro the same as the data on Media Source? I am kinda vague about the whole "synch" concept. I know WMP 0 has it too. I would like to try it, just for fun, but am not willing to jeapordize the 600 or so songs I now have on my micro.

Audio sync syncs the audio files between your player and your computer. You aren't gonna lose your files by synching .....

  • Skype Secondary - will not recognise camera/audio

Windows XP.  Since upgrading to version 7.7.0.102 when I start up my Secondary account Skype is not recognising my camera/audio and I get the following message under Tools/Options/Video Settings:
"Can't start video.  Try closing programs qhich might be using your webcam" Any suggestions and help much appreciated.

Have just done a system restore to before the new version of Skype was installed.  Now back on version 7.5.85.102 and all is working perfectly.
Could it be that the latest version of Skype is not compatible with Win XP? Hope that this helps others.

  • QT 7.0.4 losing audio synch

Since installing QT 7.0.4 my mp4 and m4v files which played perfectly with 7.0.3 lose audio synch. The sound starts out perfectly synched with the lips and within 30 seconds is way out. If I click pause and then play from that point the sound starts out in synch again and is out gradually (as before) within 30 seconds. As said, these were perfectly healthy files before this update.
Also, these files play fine on VLC and do not lose synch. BUT I'd rather use QT.
Of course, Tiger 10.4.4 downloaded at the same time so it may be the Op Sys.
I have tried reinstalling QT but nothing changes. I've tried to find 7.0.3 to return to that version, but the download does not seem to be available any longer.
I am playing these files on a MacMini from the local drive.
Does any one have any suggestions.
    Thanks,
    iMac G5 & iBook G4 & MacMini   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Re-install of v7.0.1 and updating to v7.0.3 approach works. Had to do this recently because v7.0.4 "Movie to MPEG4" conversion to ipod compatible MPEG4 files would not sync using iTunes v6.0.2 but would sync when using QT v7.0.3 Pro software. Not sure if the file produced is actually incompatible of if some tag or header data was changed and iTunes refuses to deal with it.

  • AUDIO SYNCH PROBLEMS

I have never had an audio synch problem 'til now. I am running 10.5.7 on a 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4 GB ram, 24" imac.
    iMovie 6.0.4
I have a 50 minute heavily edited project with many transitions, etc.. I have no problem with the footage downloaded from my Sony HD camcorder. I even saved many individual frames as pictures and changed them to the beat of the music in the timeline and all worked perfectly. BUT, my problem is with the "video trailers" I slipped into the timeline. The audio slips when I play back in the timeline AND when burned to DVD. BUT, it does not slip in the same place every time I preview it. If I scrub the playhead back over some of the bad scenes and play them again, they are in synch. IT KEEPS CHANGING..... When I export to a desktop movie to review - the synch problem is there and some of the audio is missing. This only happens on "movie trailers" I have downloaded.
I can't figure out why it keeps changing in the timeline and then correcting itself when I back up and play it over again. I AM GOING CRAZY........
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
    Wally

Thanks for the reply but my problem is not with iDVD - it is with iMovie - when I add "trailers" to it they go in and out of synch at different places everytime I review it before moving on. When I scrub back over the problem area and then play again, they are perfect for one time and then I try again and they are not synched. The problem is in iMovie.
    Thanks,

  • Audio synch problem

I have a 1 1/2 hr program in HDV that I'm having audio synch problems with during export. All my frame rates for my clips are the same as well as my audio sampling rates. It will start fine, then be slightly off and by the end of the program that audio is behind by about 3 seconds. I've tried all formats, reference file, self-contained, Anamorphic DV and still no luck. Any ideas?

  • Audio synch problem from 24 to 29.97

I am working for a tv show that is having a major audio synch problem.
We send our mix to an external sound house for our pro-tools mix. They request the file to be 29.97, though our timeline is 24. In turn, we export a 24 time line, re-import to an 29.97 timeline and than re-export at 29.97 with a time code burn. They export the mix, using a sound compressor that converts the mix to a 24 fps synch, we send them a 24 frame export that they can check it againest on their end in Final Cut Pro. For them, both the opening and end two-pop lines up. When we recieve the mix back however, and bring it onto our timeline, it is always 24 frames ahead of the picture. We can't fiugre out why.
I know this all sound very confusing.
Below is our export and timeline settings:
    OUR TIME-LINE\EXPORT SETTINGS:
    1st Time Line:
    FS: 1280x1080
    FPS: 24
    Compressor: DVCPRO HD 1080i60
    Aud Rate: 48.0 KHz
    Aud Format: 32-bit Floating Point
    1st Export:
    FPS: 24
    DV\DVCPRO - NTSC
    Compressor: DVCPRO HD 1080i60
    Aud Rate: 48.0 KHz
    Aud Format: 32-bit Floating Point
    Data Rate: 2.9MB/sec
    2nd Time Line:
    FPS: 29.97
    Compressor: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC
    Aud Rate: 48.0 KHz
    Aud Format: 32-bit Floating Point
    2nd Export:
    FPS: 29.97
    Compressor: DV\DVCPRO - NTSC
    Aud Rate: 48.0 KHz
    Aud Format: 16-bit Integer
    Data Rate: 3.6 MB/sec
    AUDIO MIX SETTINGS:
    Data Rate: 140.6 K/sec
    Aud Rate: 48.0 KHz
    Aud Format: 24-bit Integer
Total Out: The audio is exactly 24 frames ahead of the video by the end of the clip
We shot on a Panasonic HDX900
Can anybody think why this might be happening?

ProTools mixes 24fps...and 23.98, which SHOULD be the case here. There is NO REASON why they should want a 29.97 mix, nor should they mix at that rate...because you are not working at that rate nor delivering that rate...are you?
Your sequence settings confuse me. DVCPRO HD 1080i60 runs at 59.94. You can get it to 23.98 with a little work...but you indicate 24fps. Is that SOLID 24fps? Not 23.98? If so...that is a major issue. You should not be working at 24fps. 23.98 is the frame rate...
Still...if you are working at 23.98 and delivering a 23.98 master, the audio guy needs to mix at 23.98. ProTools is capable of 23.98. If they can't do that, then I'd suggest finding another mixer.

  • 12 bit audio synch issues

Hey all. I have a queation regarding 12 bit audio synch problems. I have digitized a tape recorded with 12 bit audio and am just now coming into video/audio synch issues and was wondering if anyone might have a workflow suggestion. Soecific questions are -
1 - Can I export the troubled clips to quicktime/ resample them at 16 bit and reimport?
2 - Some of the clips I already have edited and are in synch, do I need to correct them as well or will final cut do that on export?
3 - If I get a 12 bit/16 bit mixed bag on my timeline, can I export the mix to 2 track and convert before exporting it to compression?
ANy suggestions on how to work through this would be appreciated. I seem to have a lot of people coming to me with this setting and would like to know of any viable workflow solutions.
    Thanks

    1. Yes. Quicktime Pro, iTunes or third party audio editing software such as Peak can resample to 48khz/ 16 bit.
    2. It would be best if you can get everything in the timeline to be 48khz/16 bit.
    3. See #2.
Dope slap these fools who bring you 32khz stuff. Charge them MUCHO extra for your time.

  • IPad mini audio synch

all of my 'sounds' i.e. alerts, alarms and audio (even the on/off click) are all out of synch. The audio is about 3-6 seconds behind the function. And while it's not particularly annoying for alarms, alerts and such - it's annoying as heck when you're watching a video and the audio doesn't match up with the mouth movement. Any suggestions? I checked my other 2 iPads and the audio synch on point.
    Thanks

You can make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and do an out-of-warranty replacement (will be about 50% of the cost of a new model).
You can go to a 3rd party repair site in your area and have them replace the jack (this route will preclude you from ever using the first option I posted).
You can use an online 3rd party repair service such as http://www.iresq.com or Google for similar sites (this route will preclude you from ever using the first option I posted).
You can purchase the part and do it yourself. At http://www.ifixit.com they have videos showing how to do this and they sell 3rd party and salvaged parts (this route will preclude you from ever using the first option I posted).

  • Replacing camera audio with production audio (separately recorded)

    Hello,
I'm halfway through an edit for a client, and they'd like to replace the camera audio with their separately recorded audio files. Unfortunately, the time code of these audio files doesn't match the video, so I'm going to have to sync each master clip using slates.
The thing is, this project has a ton of cuts. It's one thing to sync up each shot using slates, but it's entirely another matter to manually sync each individual cut, as a given shot might have four or five jump cuts within it.
How do I replace the audio in my master media files such that my timeline (current edit) utilizes the synced master files?
    thanks

You could close your current project.
    Create a new project.
Import all your video files that need audio replaced.
    Import the new audio files.
Put each video track onto the timeline, alter timeline tc to match the original file, and sync new audio to them.
Export each one as a new file, in a new folder, with the same name as the original.
    Close project.
Move original files to a new location, or put them on an external drive and take it offline.
Open original project and reconnect to the new files.

  • URGENT - How accurate is Audio Synch on Computer Monitor?

    Hi,
Due the temporary lack of Digital-to-Analog convertor for my Blackmagic HDLink card, I've been unable to monitor audio while watching video on my external monitor. So instead I've been watching the computer monitor, and listening thru built-in audio.
(I should explain that I am listening to a mixed down audio track, so I dont have the original audio clips in the timeline to see the synch indicators. I'm doing this all by eye and ear)
I have a two-beep at the beginning of the long sequence, which I SEE and HEAR at the same time. But I've been told by someone I trust not to trust the synch using this method. My sequence is 83min if that makes any difference.
The reason this came up is that after adjusting the synch on a bunch of shots a few weeks ago, I went back and checked them again and they are off a few frames....
I've got a M-Audio Flying Cow Digital to Analog convertor on the way, but the meatime am borrowing a Home Theatre amp with Digial In that should allow me to monitor from the Decklink, but would really like to know if all my synch work is unreliable.
    thank you !!!

    Mathew,
You shouldn't have a problem using built-in audio if you're monitoring on the computer monitor. Built-in is low enough latency that it shouldn't matter. As you say, they appear to be in sync. If you were monitoring video through your Decklink, and audio through the built-in, then I would suspect a problem because the video D to A conversion introduces video latency.
Why a sequence would go a bit out of sync a few weeks later after making no changes is a mystery. Unless you changed something else in your system that could have changed the buffer settings for built-in audio? Just a longshot.

  • Adobe Prem 5.5 PC - Editing a multi camera & audio Concert into separate songs without losing sync

I have just finished completing a full synchronisation of multiple cameras and audio sources that took some imense amount of time to finish - phew!
Now I need to edt this into 11 separate songs, each with its own opening and closing titles.
I cannot easily cut in or using ripple delete or another cutting tool to change this without the calamity of losing sync.
I almost need to save this whole project as a scene and then re import it as another sequesnce and just cut it to suit each song but still not sure what method for saving it as I do not want to drop a generation.
Or should I copy and paste into a new sequence but then sync is a problem as soon as I cut it !!
Anyone who might have had experience of such a heavy workload of a project that could offer some advice, would be most welcome please.
In an older editing system, I was just able to save as a scene - just not sure with Premiere.
I have 5 or 6 video tracks and a similiar number of audio tracks so far, so worried about the sync issue now.
    Many thanks in advance.
