2-channel audio and iDVD????

Hi
Does iDVD produce stereo DVDs or mono DVDs???
Thanks
NBK

Normally it produces stereo. Not mono. If all you hear is mono then perhaps 16 bit audio was not selected, hence your source (camcorder) recording and editing would be suspect. You might not have the correct setting on the camera or camcorder itself. I recommend using only 16 bit audio (not 12 bit) and Not just one channel but rather both.

One more tip regarding mini plugs or alternate audio connectors anywhere in the video capture process, make certain the plug/s is seated properly (meaning pushed all the way in and not partially).

  • Multi-channel audio mapping and adjusting.

    Hello All,
I am trying to understand the concept of multi-channel audio and the way premiere handles the files.
I have an MXF file which contains 4 channels of audio.  I am able to get premiere to view all 4 channels with an adaptive track, however, how do I make adjustments to each track?
EX: Say I want to adjust one of the channels within that adaptive track, how would I do that.
    Former FCP user thanks you.
    - Ryan

What adjustments do you want to make?

  • No multi-channel audio from DVD Player or Quicktime?

I have the A52Codec 1.7.6 installed. The codec preferences are set to output multi-channel audio. I have my Audio MIDI setup speaker configuration setup for multi-channel audio and the speaker assignment tests are all perfect. VLC plays back files with AC-3 soundtracks in perfect 5.1 multi-channel sound. Final Cut plays multi-channel audio properly as well.
When I watch a DVD, it is decoded to stereo. The dialog on 5.1 always comes from the left and right speakers and never from the center channel. It doesn't matter whether I remove the A52Codec and try again the result is aways the same, 5.1 audio in Quicktime and DVD Payer gets decoded to stereo. It is not that extra channels are missing, if that were true I'd get no dialog at all.
What do I have to do to make the DVD and Quicktime multi-channel audio decode as multi-channel audio and not stereo.

I'm not sure if this will resolve your issue or not, but have you configured it using /Utilities/Audi MIDI Setup ?

  • Error message: The selected file cannot be linked because it has 6 audio channel(s) and the clip was

I recently purchased/upgraded from Premiere Elements 5 to Premiere Elements 9 and I cannot open the projects in version 9 that were created with version 5. It shows it as offline. I get a message to open up a file and when I do i receive the error message: The selected file cannot be linked because it has 6 audio channel(s) and the clip was created with 2 audio channels. Can someone help me or tell what I am doing wrong?  All of my projects that were completed in version 5 cannot be opened up in version 9.
    Thank you.

    Bill,
I ran G-Spot on one of the files and here it what I have:
    DVD "VOB" format
    MPEG-2 Program Stream << { 1 vid, 1 aud }
    Sys Bitrate: 10080 kb/s VBR
I guess I am really confused.  The project that I am trying to open PrE 9 was completed in PrE 3 w/templates , scenes, etc. The movie was burned to a DVD.  I cannot understand why I cannot open it with a newer version of PrE.  According to G-Spot (I am assuming this is what you mean above), it is already in 2 channels.  To me this should be ok.  I put many, many hours into these videos and now it seems all for not.
Here is what I did so far:
I uploaded the required media files to a new project in PrE9 and let them index and conform.  I saved the project with the same name in a different location.  Do I have to do this to the project files and/or the original media files?  Confusion starts here.
The next step is where I am confused.  I do not know if I am proceeding in the right direction from here.  There is the share tab in the upper right hand corner.  Is this what you are talking about?  I am truly lost from here.
    Thanks.

  • Premiere Elements 13 (not Pro), recorded a video with mono mic input (left channel only), need to create 2-channel (left and right) audio track for finished product. Help?

The question says it all. I have been all over the tutorials as well as the menus inside Premiere 13 and cannot find how to edit the audio track beyond basic balance, volume, etc.
I can see the Audio 1 track, shows audio in left channel only, but it will not respond to attempts to select, cut/copy, paste, etc.
Basically I just want to turn one-channel audio into two-channel audio.

Sure you do not want to give the Fill Left and Fill Right another try?
According to the Adobe document Adobe Premiere Elements Help | Effects reference
    Fill Left, Fill Right
The Fill Left effect duplicates the left channel information of the audio clip and places it in the right channel, discarding the original clip’s right channel information. The Fill Right effect duplicates the right channel information and places it in the left channel, discarding the existing left channel information. For example, you might use this effect on footage shot with a monaural microphone plugged into only one channel of a camcorder, extending the voice of a speaker from one channel to both.
From what you wrote, your Premiere Pro video seems to be saying the same.
If that Premiere Elements Fill Left or Fill Right is no go, you might want to explore what you can do in this regard using the free audio editor Audacity.
Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder
And, then import the Audacity edited audio back into Premiere Elements project as source media.
    Is the speaker system OK?
We will be watching for your results.
    Thanks for the follow up.

  • The selected file cannot be linked because it has 6 audio channel(s) and the clip was created with 2

I tryed to link MTS files to a project that I edited with AVI files. I got the message "The selected file cannot be linked because it has 6 audio channel(s) and the clip was created with 2 audio channel(s)". Does anybody know what I should do?

  • Exporting 6 channel discrete mono tracks (5.1 mix) I only get 2 tracks with compressed audio and 4 empty track on my output.

Exporting 6 channel discrete mono tracks (5.1 mix) I only get 2 tracks with compressed audio and 4 empty track on my output. I'm using Premiere Pro CC14, sequence settings and export setting pasted below.  Please help need to export feature trailer for iTunes release next week.  Yikes!!!

Thanks for the notes.  Im almost there but not quite.  I create my sequence 5.1 like you said
then map the dots and LFE.  But when I go export media is only give me the option of 1 track 5.1 not 6 discrete channels.
I check my settings and they LOOK right
then I go into my modify clip settings and I see the number of audio tracks as 1 so maybe thats why Im getting only 1 channel 5.1.
But when I select different settings in modify clip environment I can get it to LOOK correct to me
everything seems to be assigned correctly.  But when I go back to export it only still gives me the same option of exporting with 5.1 as a single track.

  • 2-channel audio sounds hissy and low; Each channel by itself sounds good... what?

Hello everyone. I have been having a problem with the quality of my captured audio for a while now. I am not an audio guru at all, so it is hard for me to even explain. So, please bear with me:
My issue is that I import my footage into FCP 7 as HDV 1080i60 with both audio channels active and linked together as a stereo mix. As I play the video in the timeline, the audio has a hiss in the background, and the persons voice that I interviewed sounds like he was "holding his nose shut"(for lack of a better word) while talking throughout the entire interview. If I delete one of the channels, it sounds great... but it is now mono, and it doesn't have the full quality that my lavalier (stereo) microphone supports.
Here is a pic of what the waveform looks like:
Here are the spec's for the audio (thanks to Invisor.app):
    ID : 2
    Format : PCM
    Format settings, Endianness : Little
    Format settings, Sign : Signed
    Codec ID : sowt
    Duration : 5mn 39s 204ms
    Source duration : 5mn 39s
    Bit rate mode : Constant
    Bit rate : 1 536 Kbps
    Channel(s) : 2 channels
    Channel positions : Front: L R
    Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz
    Bit depth : 16 bits
    Stream size : 65.1 MB (5.8%)
    Source stream size : 62.2 MiB (6%)
Now, both channels sound great by themselves, but when joined together create the hissing and high pitched sound I mentioned earlier. Can anyone tell me what is going on? Thank you for the support!!

When you start editing, either only add one to the timeline, and make it mono...or add both and make them mono.  Typically when I deal with talking heads, I will use only one channel.  Unless I have a wireless mic on one, and a boom on the other...I'll add both, but mute one (the one that sounds worse)...but have both just in case some sound affects the main audio, then I switch to the other.

  • 6 channel audio rear, center and sub not work

I wanted to know i there was a tick box or somthing to enable 6 channels of audio, by this i dont mean selecting 5. sound from the speaker setting i have the creative sound blaster LIVE. I know that the problem has something to do with the number of channels being used because this happened before with my realtek drivers when i got my 5. speaker even though i selected 5. set up i needed to select 6 channel audio in a tick boxand this solved the problem but i can not find anything like this in the creative software.
It is strange because in speaker test all speakers are sounding but in games e.g BF2 i am not getting all the sound only from front left and right.
This also happens in music but i can solve this by selecting CMSS but i should not need to us CMSS in games.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated thanx

I have a similar problem - I don't get sound from my sub while using 6-channel analogue output to a reciever. As for the rear channels, there is a slider in the CMSS section of the EAX console, set it to the middle (0%) and you should get sound from the rear as well. Anybody know how to get sound out of the sub? It works when I run the Creative channel test dealio and puts out sound, but ONLY then!

Without knowing all of the specifics in your situation, you may want to try these options:
    - If you have a DTA, and your remote control has a LANG button on it, press it.
    -  If you have an HD or SD full cable box:
Most low or no audio issues can be corrected by setting the Optimal Stereo output of the cable box. Here are the steps: Press the Menu button twice on your remote control. Select Setup. Select Audio Setup Under the Optimal Stereo setting, choose "Select to Optimize" and press OK/Select on the remote control
    - The audio settings on your cable box may have accidentally been changed:
Press the Menu button twice on the Comcast Universal Remote Control. A new screen below will appear, with the top-left option automatically selected.
Use the down-arrow key (above the Info button) to navigate to Setup and press OK/Select (the center key on the remote control in the middle of the 4 arrow/directional buttons).
Use the down-arrow key (above the Info button) to navigate to Audio setup and press OK/Select.
The Default Audio Track will default to the first option–Channel default–which which is always the channel’s main audio track (unless it was previously changed).
Press the right-arrow navigation key to change the audio track. Changing this selection will instantly change the audio.
    1. Press once for English
    2. Press twice for Spanish (Español) OR to activate Video Description (DVS)
    3. Press three times for French (Français) 4. Press four times for Portuguese (Portugues).
    5. Then press the Exit button (above the Volume button) to resume program viewing
Please note: These audio options can only be heard if the program provider or cable channel is providing that additional audio option.
    - If the above does not help, look at the remote control for your TV set (not your cable box) as the TVs language settings may have been accidentally changed (sometimes labeled as MTS or SAP on the remote or via your TVs settings menu).

  • AAC and multi-channel audio

Can AAC be used to encode multi-channel audio, such as DTS-HD Master Audio?
DTS-HD Master Audio is an optional audio format in Blu-Ray. It uses lossless compression.
There are other audio formats from Dolby Digital, for example, that are used to encode HD audio in Blu-Ray. Can AAC be used to encode those as well, without any loss of information?
Is there any work in progress to make HD audio such as DTS-HD Master Audio available discretely on disc, like what the older DVD-Audio format made possible for 5.1 channel surround sound on disc?
    Thanks.

What adjustments do you want to make?

  • Media Encoder CC 2014 export for UK DPP v1.1 AS-11 has only 4 channels audio???

Trying to export an AS-11 UK DPP 1.1 with 10 channels. Export in AME has only 4 channels audio with no options to add more. The UK DPP spec allows for 16.

You are correct. We are currently discussing this and are treating it as a feature request for a future update. In the future you can also submit feature requests here: Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form

  • What is the difference between"export audio and "bounce"?

What is the difference between the "export audio" and "bounce" functions?
Do plug ins get saved with the created BWF(broadcast wave files)in the "export" function?
Or is the "bounce" method the required function to enable plugins embedded in BWF files?
Also I noticed that the "convert to SDII file" produces files not readable by ProTools.
It was my understanding that using the convert to SD II files via the audio bin is used, it would produce BWF files for use in Protools. And if you use symbols like / in your track names the files won't get converted or bounced!
Also would it not be cool if LE8 had a feature that could render BWF files small enough to send via internet file sharing and transfer apps, in other words a built in file transfer feature. Am I asking for too much.

Export audio is good to move the tracks to another application or computer for further editing.
Bounce renders the mix into a stereo track in 2 basic ways: PCM, i.e. uncompressed, or compressed (like AAC, mp3 etc.).
PCM can be AIFF, Broadcast WAV (even if it's written only WAV those are BWF), and SDII that's the standard file type of ProTools.
Note that PT doesn't use interleaved stereo files but two separate files for left and right channels, i.e. filename.l and filename.r and if you save in this way PT will accept those files for sure.
Uncompressed audio files cannot be compacted (in fact, that's why they're called uncompressed).
These days there are a lot of Internet services that permit to transfer several Gb (up to 5) for free.
If you are thinking of something like Digidelivery then you should put your attention towards Digi's products, not Apple's ones.
    cheers

  • Trying to record Stereo Mix with a monitor through my headphones.  Using Screenium to record Audio and Video, using Avid MBox Mini with MXL 909 Microphone for the audio through the interface.

Basically, what I am trying to do is this:
Record my screen through Screeenium, record my voice as audio through an Avid MBox Mini (interface) with a MXL 909 microphone to pick up the audio.  I have all that figured out.  I'm able to efficiently record my audio and screenplay through these instruments and programs.  What I am having trouble with is the stereo mix.  I am running into a slew of problems here... My goal: Add on the audio of a game that I am playing (for example, Amneisia) so that the audio for my game will be picked up internally, and not through the speakers to be recorded through the microphone.  I want there to be no external sound except me talking into my microphone.  I also want to be able to HEAR the audio of the game through my headphones (and if possible, myself as well, through a monitor maybe?)
Problems I have run into so far:
-Haven't gotten it to pick up in game audio at all while using headphone.  Can't figure this out
-Downloaded soundflower, have the output as soundflower.  Not picking up anything, will put all my sound and midi settings at the end.
-When I do record through my microphone, it is only picking up a single channel (left earpiece only, no right channel)
-I have figured out it is NOT the equipment, I use Pro Tools and am able to pick up both channels with my mic, recorded a few tests. It's settings and I can't      figure it out
-Trying not to run 16 million programs while running the game, will cause lag.
    Summed up:
    Trying to record:
-Audio from gameplay of any game I am playing through alternative route of speakers (do NOT want to record game audio through speakers, internally)
-Record voice through Avid MBox Mini and MXL 909 microphone.
    -Record screen gameplay through Screenium
I followed a guide that told me to achieve "stereo mix'' I need to download soundflower and follow "X" steps.  That is done and these are my current settings:
Audio Midi Setup - Stereo Mix custom Aggregate Device, Soundflower (2ch) selected, Avid Mbox Mini selected, Soundflower Output #1 has 2 channels (1-2), using Avid MBox mini for "Input" in order to record.  Using Soundflower AND Avid MBox mini as "Output" in order to hear the sounds and replay game sounds (could be the problem? Maybe?)
Sound Settings - Output Stereo Mix (custom channel)  Input Avid MBox Mini (recording)
I'm hoping this isn't too hard to understand.. I'm VERY bad at explaining information regarding computers.. It's hard becuase I don't understand it.  I can clarify anything that I am able to, so any help on finding certain things would be greatly appreciated.
My computer: Macbook Pro MAC OS X Lion (11G63) 10.7.5  2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 4GB 13333 MGz DDR3  (If any of this is imporant)

    Hey guys,
I tried to do some research and it looks like you need to have an external device and its drivers, such as an external microphone, installed on the computer to record audio that can be saved as a sound file. Another Suggestion is to try an auxiliary spliter for your headphones and external speakers?
What software are you using to record your game?
If anyone knows anything different, please let me know.

  • Questions on Handling Multi-Channel Audio

    Hi there,
I'm an Editor at a news shop that has been running FCP 7.0.3 for a good length of time now. Everyone loves it, I love it - however I understand it is becoming dated and eventually we will need to upgrade to a new NLE if we want to stay up to par with latest codec support for new cameras and simple process enhancements (64bit, background rendering, etc.)
FCPX is one of several options we're trying out, and I have been toying around with the Trial version, seeing the workflow, cutting VO/SOTs and Packages on it.
The 'new' workflow does not bother me at all, I think there are a lot of enhancements that come with X, despite it seeming foreign to the FCP7 loyalists like myself. However, one thing I'm not quite sold on (or understanding of) yet is multichannel audio. So I'd like to ask a few questions regarding that if anyone would be willing to loan some tips. As a preface here's how we handle audio:
Ch1 - Wireless audio (stick mic, lav)
Ch2 - Shotgun mic (usually for natural sound)
Ch 3 / 4 - Usually copies of 1/2 but at Auto volume.
1.) Is there a quicker way to make detached / split audio channels a default state?
    - I understand that I can take a clip and detach the audio, and then after that, take it one step further and expand the tracks to see all 4 audio tracks on the timeline. However, that doesn't seem like a very efficient way to go about viewing all 4 tracks (or at the very least the 2 main tracks) if I need to select all and take 2 actions to see them.
2.) What is the best way to 'bring in' only the channels I want to the timeline?
    - Right now the best method I've found has been to select the clip in the browser, deselect the Audio channels I don't want in the inspector, and then make the necessary edit. Maybe in theory I could Select All clips in browser and globally change active tracks? I equate this to disconnecting A/V tracks in FCP7. Is this the best way to handle this?
3.) Is there a way to designate channels for export?
    - Since there aren't really any 'tracks' in FCPX, it's hard for me to understand what audio goes where on the way out. Usually on our exports, Ch 1 will be dialogue (reporter track, sound bytes, etc.) and Ch 2 will be nat sound. This makes it easy for editors to re-cut from previously edited elements. How do I even go about assigning this? Do channels keep their position (ie. if I dropped in Ch 2 audio from the camera, does that simply NEED to export to Ch 2 on the output?)
That's about it - although if anyone is particularly passionate about the subject I'd also ask what they think about how all of this - if this is an audio workflow that when learned, can be better... OR if you feel it is a step backwards from other NLEs like FCP7, Avid, etc.
I would appreciate any and all answers regarding this. Thanks for your time!

    1. Not a great fan of detaching audio except in multicam clips. Generally I'd suggest using the expand audio components function to access the channels.
    2. Yes. Switch off the auto tracks in the browser and only turn them back on for the clips you need in the project. With expanded audio components, if you turn the channels back on they will reappear in the timeline.
    3. You use roles for this. I know time is tight for news, but taking a few moments to assign roles to the clips in the borwser, which you can do in globally, will allow you to export with separate tracks.
