2 clients of one ECC as a source system for BW

Hi Gurus,
we are asked by a customer to set up a new BW system, which will have 2 source systems, clients 300 and 400 of the same ECC. One client is ment for support team work  and the other for project team. I understand that the dataflow is partly different (e.g transfer rules and datasources are source system dependent), but most of the dataflow (extractors, customer exits in ECC, infosources, update rules, cubes, etc) are the same.  I am referring to 3.X dataflow as that is what we have mostly in the system, but we are on BI 7.0 already.
Do you see any advantages/disadvantages of this approach?
There are certainly some rules which have to be kept by such an approach (e.g. changing transfer rules for both source systems). What do you suggest, which rules should be kept? Would you do it differently? How?
Thank you for your valuable inpt,
Michal

Ahoj Michal,
your approach sounds feasible. You are already running BW in similar setup?
Yes you need to check and modify all your specific settings according data split from 2 clients: e.g. routines in InfoSources, Update Rules etc...
If I would do this differently? It depends on what purpose the data has in such a BW.
- Do they really need to analyze data from both clients?
- How the data model is setup? Do you have different data InfoProviders per client?
I would consider this for approach....

  • Parallel extraction of data for BW3.1 and BI 7.0 from one ECC 6.0  source

We have an existing BW3.1 system and  we are coming up with BI 7.0 system. Can we extract data to both BW3.1 ( all our standard datasource have enhancement) and BI7.0 from one single ECC6.0 source system. If yes, can anyone provide more info on how this is possible.
    Regards,
    Mark

    Hi,
I assume you are asking whether multiple BI systems can be supplied data from the same source system.......
If so the answer is YES..... 1 Source system can act as a data-source for any number of source systems.
I also assume you are asking whether 2 BI systems which are of different version (3.x and 7) can be supplied data from the saem source system ?
The answer is YES. Your source system version has nothing to do with the BI version. If you have created a datasource in source system, then it can be used to pull data to both BI7 system and BW 3.x system
    How it can be done.
Your datasource from the source system will already be present in the BW 3.x system, so you need to do nothin about it. Once your BI7 system is ready please establish a link to the source system in question and replicate datasources. Once  you do that it will ask whether you need this datasource in 3.x (ISFS) or 7(RSDS) version. Select 7 and continue.
Then you can proceed further with modeling and data extraction.

  • ECC 6.0 Source Systems are added to 2 Different Folders - BI and SAP

    Hi Experts:
Our BASIS team added 2 ECC 6.0 Source Systems to BI 7.0. One of the ECC 6.0 System is added under BI Folder ( where DataMart Source stays) and other ECC 6.0 system is added under SAP folder where all other R/3 Source Systems are. I talked to BASIS team and they followed the same configuration in SM59 for both of the  RFC connections.
Other peice of Information, Both the ECC 6.0 systems are on same server but just different Client.
    This is how it looks:
    RSA1 -> SOURCE SYSTEM
                  -> BI Folder - 1st ECC 6.0 System
                  -> SAPFolder -  2nd ECC 6.0 System
    Thanks,

  • Need Expert advice on choosing Source System for creating/maint Customers.

    Hi Experts,
Iam on project where we have CRM,ECC(SD),FICA in the System Landscape. The client is currently using ECC(SD) Customer master for creating/maintainig Customer's.As we have CRM & FICA in this implementation, we are planning to propose that we use CRM as the source system for creating/maintaing Customers as Business Partners & Perform standard replication to the other system's in the landscape.
The client has has asked us to confirm if having CRM as the source is the Best practice in the industry when we have this three systems (CRM,FICA,ECC(SD)) Landscape.I thought to get some expert advice on this & see if any of you have a similar project experience & share some views on this CRM BP vs ECC(SD) Customer Master.
    Thanks in advance!
    Regards,
    Naveen

    Hi,
I believe it depends on your business senario. Here I can share some my experience for you.
    CRM As Source System
    Advantage:
    1) Choosing CRM as source system ,you can create several roles of customer for tracking the presales process of customer, such as prospect ,sold to party ,customers ,also you can define the life cycle of your customer and control which life cycle of customer should be replicated to ECC and which one should not.
    2)  CRM can have more views of customer and customer defined field (EEWB fields) ,so if you choose CRM as Source it will be more convenient  to create and fill in the all your user defined field .In other words ,choosing ECC as source you have to extend these field again in CRM .
    3) easy to maintain customer relationship
    Disadvantages:
    1) Have to extend Company code view of Customer data, since CRM do not have these view ,it is  just used for billing and integration with financial accounts.
    2)  have to extend some particular partner function of customer ,it is because of CRM it is only possible to create part of partner function automatically like SP ,BP  when business partner  is replicating to ECC.
    ECC As the source
Oppositely, if you choose ECC as the source ,the advantage become disadvantage.
    Advantage :
    1) Can Easily to create customer's data of company code view
    2)  Can easily to assign any partner function to customer
To conclude, if you only need to create sales order in ECC ,I believe choosing ECC as Lead system is better, since you do not have to extend customer data and easily to integrate with FICO and SD.Howerver, if you are going to create a sales order from opportunity or quotation ,CRM is your best choice.

  • Can we have SAP R/3 QAT system as source system  for BI dev

    HI ,
We are doing SAP BI implementation and in our company we have already SAP R/3
The problem is BI team is doing some development in BI DEV and they want to see some data.
But unfortunately we don't have much data in DEV enviornment.
So my question is can we have SAP R/3 QAT system as source system  for BI dev.
Will there be any issues going forward.
As per my understanding technically source system is just an RFC connection for BI, so we can point it to QAT as well.
Do you guys foresee any issues in that?
    Thanks,
    Sumit

    Hello Sumit,
What Arun said was what my concern was, he explained exactly the scenario that I faced, and that your BI team will face if you arrange your landscape as you said.
In my company for a while I had the BI Dev box connected to our ECC SND box.
It was done that way because of the lack of data in ECC Dev.
It worked, but it was definately not the best solution.  Today we have BID and ECC Dev connected, BIQ and ECC Q, and BIP and ECC Prd.  We do have data in teh attached ECC systems due to recent refreshes too, a large data set is very nice as it helps the BI team significantly.
That is the best way to arrange the landscape (and throw a BI SND to ECC SND for the true best practice!)
    Thanks,
    Nick

  • Question to assigning Source System for Activation

We want to assign source system for activation, before business content-InfoObject catalog activation. The steps as follows:
1.On the Data Warehousing Workbench: Business Content view from the menu choose Edit  Source System Assignment.->This step is ok, no question.
    2. In the Choose source system by default? dialog box select the checkbox in the column Default assignment in the row containing the source systems you need to load data from.->Now we can see BI system as default call DEGCLNT500 displayed, in my case we only connect one R/3 system call DHHCLNT100 to BI system.
So, the question to that is shoud we select both R/3 source system and BW source system as default or just select R/3 source system as default and dis-select BW source system?
Which one should we choose, both or only R/3 source system?
    Pls help, thanks!

    Hi hi ni,
If what you are activating it's going to retrieve data only from R/3, then select R/3 and uncheck BW.
You can change this whenever you want, if in the future you need bw, before activating, you can change it.
This doesn't means where is going to get the data from, this is just to look for active (and replicated) datasources to connect to the business content you are activating.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Diego

  • Source System for Program RSIMPCURR

    Hello,
I am using RSIMPCURR program for currency translation in my process chain. It was working fine in D but when I transport this to Q it's not working because the variant I am using for this is still using source system in for Dev. I need to change the source system for the Q system, Anyone knows how to change?
Also, I was trying to create variant manually in Q for the same program but it won't allow me to select source system. The Source system field is grayed out.
    I appreciate anyone's help.
    Thanks,
    Peja

    Hello,
You must create a variant for Program RSIMPCURR without specify the source system name and transport it.
After the transport, in the target destination, do RSA1 / Source systems / right click and choose transfer exchange rates. The Source system is already filled with the good value. You only have to complete the screen with the same attributes that you entered in the transported variant and save it with the same name.
Just do these operations in every BW target environments (Quality, Production,...)
I hope this will help you

  • BW as source system for 2 other BW systems

    Hi
My BW1 system works as a source system for 2 other BW systems say BW2 & BW3.
I would like to configure infosources in BW1 system so that infosource A would be visible only from BW2 system & infosource B would be visible only form BW2 system.
    Is it possible?
If YES how to do it?
    Thanks a lot.
    Pawel

    Hi,
Hope you aware of Infosources interacts with Replicated Datasources.
As per your post, BW1 is a source system for BW2 and BW3.
So, you have to create Infosources in BW2 and BW3. So you have to replicate the datasources in BW2 and BW3.

  • Connect one SAP ECC 6.0 source system to 2 SAP BW system

    Hi!
    I copied SAP BW system (e.g. BW1 --> BW2).
My source SAP BW system "BW1" was connected to SAP source system "MM5" (tcode RSA1).
Now I would like to connect my new SAP BW system "BW2" also to this SAP source system "MM5".
When I do so I get the following error:
    Connection cannot be used.
Connection BA is used in the MM5:400
source system as a connection BW1CLNT001 to BW
Do you want to delete this connection in the source system?
    Question:
Can one SAP ECC system be connected to 2 SAP BW system?
If yes, what are the steps to do this?
    Thank you!

    Thank you very much!
The question still is how to proceed with the following dialog screen/warning?
    Connection cannot be used.
Connection BA is used in the MM5:400
source system as a connection BW1CLNT001 to BW
Do you want to delete this connection in the source system?
    YES or NO
    Thank you!

    Hi,
Hope you are using the RFCUSER with these profile SAP_ALL , SAP_NEW , S_BI-WX_RFC in SAP ECC. Please create the RFCUSER with above profiles in ECC and BW (SAP_ALL , SAP_NEW and S_BI-WHM_RFC).
Pls follow the below steps for source system connection
    In ECC side
1.) Client administration SCC4 ( select your client and allow changes to repository and cross client customizing)
2.) Define a logical system in ECC
3.) Assign a logical system in ECC
4.) Creating RFC user with system user type and give these profiles SAP_ALL, SAP_NEW, S_BI-WX_RFC
    In SAP BI Side
1.) Client administration SCC4 ( select your client and allow changes to repository and cross client customizing)
    2.) Define a logical system
    3.) Assign a logical system
4.) Creating RFC user with system user type and give these profiles SAP_ALL, SAP_NEW, S_BI-WHM_RFC)
5.) Define RFC user as default (Click RSA1> Global Settings/Customizing dialog box> Glob. Settings)
Connection of SAP BI with ECC
RSA1> Source System>SAP>create>Enter the below entries
Target computer (server)                        Server of the SAP ECC
System ID System ID of the SAP ECC
System number System number of the SAP ECC

  • Non-SAP Source systems for gas and power trading operations

Hi Experts, I have this client who has no R/3 systems. They have few MS Access databases, Oracle systems annd MS SQL DB. I have seen some of the most commonly used tables in all the databases and doesn't look like there are not even a single InfoObject that is similar to any one in Business Content. Now this makes me feel that I need create everything from scratch. Can anybosy guide me on the best way to go about extracting data from this non-SAP systems. Right from connecting to these systems to extracting data in BI to creating some meaningful reports.
They do not have the concept of Master data here. All they have is Data in the MS Access databases.I need some assistance from experts here in how do I go about organizing this.

    hi,
The BW can be connected to Non-SAP data using DB or UD connect.
The data in Non-SAP source system is staged in form of tables.
You can extract the data using Data Source based on DB or UD connection.you can define new info objects and data flow which extracts the data. In DS description you can mention the Non-SAP source system tables from where you want to extract the data, after that u can mention the fields to be extracted in BW.
    regards,
    Arvind.

  • Swap R3 source system for BW without recreating transfer rules

    Hi, All,
I am facing an interesting situation. The team would like to retire an R3 system which is the source to our BW development environment. I need to replace the old R3 source with another one. The BW development environment is also the source of the transport path.
Is there a quick way to swap out an R3 source system without recreating all the transfer rules/infosources/infopackages which are tie to the old system?
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Chimei

    Hi,
In BI 7.0, we are trying to repoint ECC 6 Dev system in place of R/3 Dev.  Ran BDLS which converted some tables but not all and ended with errors.  Does anyone know how to manually correct these entries?  Is there a program to independently correct the tables?

  • Multiple R/3 Source systems for BW(3.5)

    Hi,
A BW system being linked with multiple R/3 source systems , is a very common scenario. But could someone please help me out with a strategy doc / how -to etc. on the best possible way to install business content for multiple R/3 sources .
    thanks

    Hi Shurobhi,
This is a common scenario. there is not much difference between single source system and multiple source systems.
If you have data coming from 3 source systems you dont need to create 3 cubes and update seperately. you can update 3 source systems data into one single cube. For Example: FI AP Line Item data : You have source systems 1 2 and 3. you can use standard business content ODS  and Cube to update FI AP data. Here first, init for source system 1 followed by delta for source system 1, then init for source system 2 followed by delta 2, finally init for 3 followed by delta 3. From here on you can load data to info cube in the above layer.
    Thanks
    Praveen
