2 Computers Cannot Access Internet Via Airport Extreme at the same time!

I recently purchased two new computers -- a Macbook Pro (for myself) and a Macbook (for my wife). My Macbook Pro arrived first, and connected to the wireless network via Airport Extreme with no problem. Once my wife's computer arrived, and we would connect to the network with her computer, every time she accesses the network it basically "boots" my computer from the network. It still says I'm "connected" to it, but no programs/browsers/etc. that use the internet will actually work and it behaves as though there is no network connected at all. In the mean time, her Macbook continues to operate as normal and never seems to get "booted" by my Macbook Pro. Is the network thinking our two computers are the same computer? Or, what is the problem? PLEASE HELP!

I have had the same problem with my iMac and MacBook, both on leopard and with a new AEBS. With the additional symptom that internet connection will drop on either machine individually, with the other powered off. I also tried a Time Capsule, with exactly the same results. But I have observed what is described here. Internet connection is fine on one machine, then drops and I find the other machine working for awhile, until it drops. Just ping-ponging back and forth.
Since I am seeing the same problem in two new Macs with an AEBS and TC, it's hard to say that there a problem specifically with any one of them. I suspect that my problem is interference, or electrical noise when using 802.11n. The only thing that worked for me is "802.11b/g compatible" mode.
In another post, it was suggested that the AEBS was interacting with Digital cable TV/internet, potentially causing an electrical noise issue. What kind of service to you have?

  • Can external HD connect to PS3 and Airport Extreme at the same time?

I currently have a external HD connected to my PS3 to play vids. Can I connect a AirPort Extreme to that HD at the same time to wirelessly drop files on the HD to play on the PS3?
    Thanks

Most likely, no. How do you propose that you would connect this drive to both devices simultaneously? Via a USB hub?

  • Can multiple devices access drives connected to Airport extreme at the same time?

i have a few days to decide before someone gets me either an airport extreme or a decent NAS adapater to using with my existing airport express, from the US. my airport express serves me good for all my networking needs but i have decided to take my portable media wireless.
i wanna know which will be the best option? to plug in the portable hdds to an a.extreme via a usb hub and share it across devices or to do the same with a nas adapter using my existing current generation a.express?
i got ios, android, mac and windows devices on my network. and an apple tv.
    please share ur thoughts.

Express is slow ethernet.. 10/100 only. The max speed of any connection to a USB hard disk is limited severely by the 100mbit..
USB is always slow btw.. This is actually a poor way to share a drive. A cheap NAS.. ie ethernet to Sata directly is far far superior and a single disk NAS can be had cheaply.. you will never get close with USB in network situations.
If you use a hub though, you can plug multiple disks into an Extreme.. I guess the network speed is at least no worse than the USB hub -- ethernet devices which are lousy as a whole.
Never forget you have the fastest ethernet adapters and fastest possible connectors already on computers on the network.. people are so utterly mesmerized by NAS they forget.. a FW800 or better USB3 if you have a newer computer shared to the network from a computer has much higher throughput and is much cheaper than even the very low end network stand alone boxes.

  • How many computers can access Creative Cloud for Teams at the same time?

    Hi Whynoworky,
You would want to purchase the number of seats for the number of computers it will be used on. Each seat is for one user.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
No, this doesn't work directly from the Apple TV. However if you play the radio station from your computer you can send it via airplay to both devices, thereby achieving what you require.

  • Can you use 2 airport expresses at the same time?

I want to play my iTunes through my computer speakers and up to 2 airport expresses at the same time, to fill my house with music without having to blast it in any one room, but iTunes will only play on the computer's speakers or through the airport express, but not both.
Is there a hack to get it to play on multiple airports, like giving both airports the same identity or something?
I could acheive this with extra speakers and lots of wires running all over the house, but I'd like to avoid that.

    From the Airport Express FAQ
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108038#9
Question: Can iTunes send a single AirTunes stream to multiple AirPort Express stations?
Answer: Yes. With iTunes 6.0.2 or later, you can send an AirTunes stream to multiple remote AirPort Express units, provided that each AirPort Express has the latest AirPort firmware 6.3. The maximum number of remote AirPort Express units is three to six in typical conditions. The number that works for you will depend on your environmental conditions (such as building composition and local radio interference), distance to the remote AirPort Express units, and available network capacity relative to your other usage.

  • Connect to internet via airport extreme via ethernet cable and no airport c

I just bought a MacBook with Airport Extreme, got it set up today and it works great, got online, etc. However, I have an iMac with no airport card. I can't figure out how to get both computers hooked up on the internet at the same time. The MacBook works only when the ethernet cable in in the LAN slot on the Extreme but won't work through the WAN slot. I have tried hooking up both ethernet cables into the Extreme, just the iMac, and nothing works. I don't need to connect wirelessly through the iMac so I don't want to buy an Airport card if I don't need one. I just don't want to plug and unplug the ethernet cable everytime I want to use the MacBook or the iMac. My modem from Verizon only has one ethernet slot. Any ideas?

You mean Airport Extreme Base station?
Here's what you need to do:
    1. Disconnect your Verizon Modem & Airport Extreme
    2. Connect the ethernet cable from the Verizon modem to the WAN of the AE
    3. Connect another ethernet cable from the LAN port of the AE to your iMac
    4. Turn on Verizon Modem
    5. Once all lights on the modem have turned on, turn on the Airport Extreme
    6. On your iMac click on Applications --> Utilities --> Airport Admin Utility
    7. Setup a Wireless network using this or the Airport Setup Assistant, located in the same Utility folder.
    8. After you have created the wireless network, connect to it on your macbook
If for some strange reason you still can't figure it out, refer to the product manual or check:

  • No Internet via Airport Extreme and Speedtouch Ethernet DSL modem

I've recently purchased a McBook pro and wanted to create a wireless network. I have a new Airport Extreme Base Station and have successfully set that up, but with no internet connection!
I can get a perfect connection by hardwiring either of my machines to the DSL Modem directly (via Ethernet cable), but when i connect the Airport Extreme to the DSL Modem via ethernet there is no internet.
After a bit of research i'm wondering if there is a "bridge" issue... though i have no idea what that means or how to resolve it. Can anyone help?
    Details:
    Airport Extreme 802.11n
Speedtouch DSL Modem (Thomson ST510 v6)
G5 Power PC Tower (10.4.11) will connect to the Airport Extreme via ethernet, currently connects to the DSL modem via ethernet.
MacBook Pro (10.6.4) will connect wirelessly. can currently connect to the internet through the DSL modem via ethernet.
Dynamic IP via ISP connection via PPPoa

Hi Steven, I know this question has been answered and is a couple of months old but I think you may be able to help with my set up? I have a Thomson speedtouch 510 v6 modem router provided by Karoo (UK). My other Belkin N modem router has just bust [again] so the Speedtouch is my old faithful backup device. Now, i've never been able to get on ichat with the Belkin as its a mimo n speed and this is apparently not compatible; So i'm now on ethernet with the st510 and have just set up ports for ichat thanks to a thread called http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2719419&#2719419.
What I want to know from you (because I really need a wireless router to get me off this ethernet support system and back on airport) is how you're getting on with the st510 / airport extreme combo now and can you use ichat on it? If so does your connection doctor say full cone in network settings or something else? As I say, I really want to use ichat and have never been able to in 3 years of owning my Macbook Pro. Hope to hear back from you Steven. Regards Steph

  • Can't get windows 7 netbook onto wireless internet via airport extreme.

I've spent 3 days trying to get my new Acer netbook with windows 7 home premium in it on the internet wirelessly through my Airport Extreme. It shows the internet is there but will not connect. It keeps asking me for a security key. I have tried my system password and the airport password, neither of them work. I have a feeling I'm just missing something in one of the settings but I am a die hard Apple/Mac user and this little windows machine is really killing me! The airport is working flawlessly for my Imac desktop and my Ibook so I know it isn't the airport. Anyone have any suggestions (other than getting rid of the Netbook?)

I'm kind of having the same problem. I can finally connect and get on the internet wirelessly but I can not setup my Airport Extreme. I just moved recently and I didn't have any issues at my old place and now I can use the internet and I get this blinking amber light and it's kind of annoying. Every time I click Manually Setup or Continue in the Airport Utilities my computer will try to detect any Apple devices, even though it right there on the left side it can not connect to it. At the same time I click either button my wireless disconnects for a second and reconnect.
I can't setup my Airport Extreme using this garbage OS they call Windows.

  • Connect 3 LANs over internet via airport Extreme

I have 3 offices for my small business and would like to connect all 3 LANs for a variety of operational reasons without getting a virtual LAN from the ISP (as this is cost prohibative and we have 3 different ISPs due to geographic locations).
I have heard this is possible via Airport Extreme, but I am unable to find any documentation on the matter.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks

Also should note that at the primary location I have a Mac Mini q-Core Lion Server.

  • External hard drive networked via AirPort Extreme gives "The operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50)" roughly every two days

My lab has about 10 Mac computers.  We all access a central hard drive by the way of wifi provided by AirPort.  It's just a regular external hard drive (Seagate Desktop Drive) that I turned into our central storage space by plugging it into AirPort (USB).  It works pretty well.  We seem to be fine with viewing the file directories, opening files, saving, deleting etc., for a day or two.  But then after a day or two, when when trying to modify files or move new files onto the central hard drive, we get the error message: "The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50)"
Any suggestions as to what may be causing this problem?
All of the computers are 2011 iMacs & MacPros.  The AirPort is 802.11n WiFi.  The hard drive is a Seagate USB 3.0 Desktop Drive.
    Thank you for your insight/suggestions.

Thanks for your reply.  I agree about the communication issue. Let me explain my setup and what I am trying to do and perhaps you can answer my questions or make suggestions.
I have a MAC Mini with a Sony TV for the video monitor.  The  Mac Mini is hard wired to the AE (Airport Extreme).  The AE has a 2 TB HD hooked up to the USB Port.  I have a 17" Mac Book Pro on the WIFI Network.
I am trying to use the MAc Mini as a "Media Server" of sorts.  Once I get iTunes running the way I plan I am goign to hook up my Apple TV (2nd Generation) to my television downstairs.
What I am trying to accomplish is have iTunes on all my computers look to the External HD on the AE for the files.  This is why I am having my (-50 errors).
So far I have noticed that if I go and try to download from iTunes purchased videos that are not ont he computer (to the external HD) it will also occassionaly give me teh -50 error.
Is there a way to change where the files go when I download them?  Say I want to download videos to the computer but not to the external HD?  However I would want to still be able to move them to the External HD.

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I cannot connect to my Airport Extreme on the 5GHz band (2.4GHz works fine)...what's going on?

I have been having intermittent/no wireless success on the 5GHz band of my Airport Extreme.  I'm on an iMac early 2008.  It was working fine before upgrading to Mountain Lion.  I have tried many things (deleting the wireless network, readding it, changing settings on the AirPort Extreme, deleting the 5GHz network on that and readding it, running diagnostics) but nothing has fixed it.  I can switch to the 2.4GHz band and it works flawlessly.  This must be a software problem since it only started happening when I upgraded the OS.
Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

No it isn't, I have tried 4 different mountain lion machines connected to a 5Ghz and it works just fine. It is with your machine hence we need to fix it
create a new location and see if that fixes your issue, If not trash Macintosh HD/Library/System Configuration
That is a folder so trash it > restart the computer > create a new location

  • AirPort Express (2nd gen), share internet wireless and wired in the same time

If I use my AirPort Express (2nd gen) and I connect the modem in WAN port, and a switch in the LAN port (this swich connect a computer and a NAS wired), can I share the internet wireless and via LAN and the same time?, the wireless devices and the wired devices would be in the same network?.
    Thanks.

    Thanks!

  • My new Apple TV 2nd generation and computer cannot to my Airport Express at the same time, whats up?

My Airport Express wont allow both my computer and new Apple TV to be conected at the same time. In Network Preferences I have to manually connect my Apple TV and when I do then it disconnects my computer. When I go to Network Preferences to manually connect my computer it disconnects my Apple TV. Both cannot be connected at the same time. Whats the fix?

I've tried to set up the IP's manually, still doesn't work. In fact I get a message saying that there is another device trying to use my computers IP address of 00.0.0.0. Thats not my computers IP its my Airport IP. Then neither my computer nor my Apple TV can connect. I change things back to auto configuation its either the Apple TV or the computer which I have to change in Network Preferences. It even tells me that my computer is connected to my network in the status bar and in Network Preferences when it is not. I never had this problem with my old Apple TV (1st).

  • Airport express: use internet and air tunes at the same time?

    Hi,
I'd like to use and airport express to create a wirelss network (and so use the internet) AND stream music to my stereo with air tunes - at the same time. Is this possible? So far, I have been able to create a wireless network (and use the internet) OR use the airport express to play music. But whenever my internet works, itune can't find the base station - claiming it "can't be found on the network?"
Can you do both at once?
I'm connecting to an ethernet jack (I'm at a college). It's not a cable modem or DSL. Is this the problem?
Under "music" in the utility configuration. I've selected "Enable Air tunes at the base station." I can't select "Enable Airtunes over ethernet port." When i try to change the network options to allow me to select this "ethernet port" option, I have to tell it how to "distribute IP" addresses. i don't know how to do this, and everything I've tried destroys my internet connection.
I appreciat any help you have to offer. thanks
    1.5 GHz PowerPC G4, 12'' powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    solution:
My problem ended up being specific to the network I'm using. There is evidently another router on the ethernet system that was assigning my airport express an IP address (192. ...), rather than letting the network DCHP give me a direct IP address (something like 160. ...). The 192 address made it impossible for iTunes to see my express base station, but I was getting internet, passed through this other router.
The fix - and I'm not sure if this is totally kosher - was to manually enter a correct IP address for my base station. I got the IP address by seeing what this other router was sending my computer to get onto the internet. It gave me the correct router and a workable (160. ...) IP address. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to manually pick an IP address on the ethernet, but this one is working for the time being, and now iTunes can find my base station.
