2 Computers on AE Network, internet access slooowww on 1

I'm running an AEBS (b/g) to share my DSL network. I'm also running 2 Airport Expresses to extend the network, along with 4 Sonos Zoneplayers, an NAS drive (for the Sonos), and a Slingbox. I use a Dual 2.0 G5 tower in my office and a G4 iBook for internet access, both wireless. All components are assigned their IP addresses from the AEBS via DHCP.
All works perfectly except for the iBook, which more often than not has verrry slow internet access. The iBook is within about 12 feet of one of the Airport Expresses, and always shows 3 or 4 bars of strength, although the quality of the web access is spotty.
Short of getting another Airport Express, is there a way of troubleshooting the Airport Express that I'm using for that iBook? Or could there be another issue that I'm not thinking of?

Hey i didnt no what other way to contact you duane
and i have 2 questions
1. when i plug my ipod mini in to the computer using usb cable my actual computer reconises it but my itunes doesnt so like nothing hapeens so i cant up date my ipod !

  • Mac G5 Airport "NO internet Access" but is connected to WRT54G network

I have read thru prior threads and nothing has worked. I have connected to the internet once. I have upgraded the firmware to the wrt54. I have tried both PPPoe and DCHP to connect as well as using the built in ethernet. Why will it connect to the network but have no internet access?
The network status on my G5 says "Airport connected and You have internet access through Airport. But when I try through Safari, the screen comes up "no internet connection". Currently my wrt54 is 192.168.2.1 and I have set the security to allow access to the router. Can someone layout what my mac and router settings should be, If they are working for them? After trying somemany different things, I worry that I am not trying the right sequence of settings anymore. Help!
    Many thanks!

I have upgraded my router firmware to the latest, at least what is available here at linksys. The airport does retrieve the address from the router, but no go. Should it be set to PPPoe or not? If it isn't. it doesn't look for the host. When its off, the network status says connected to the linksys network, internet access through Airport, but still no Safari. I don't understand, if it is connected to the network, what is preventing it from connecting to the internet, which is available on the router? My DHCP server is enabled, I have changed the address to 192.168.2.1, 50 clients, but there are no DNS static address'. Should I input some DNS Address? My router is connected to a DSL modem and hardwired to a PC through the net connection. This is how I access the router. Whoops gotta get to work...........
    Thanks for your help

  • Open Directory access from outside of network / internet

    Hello all,
Got a question I'd love to get some help on, I have some users who are outside of my network and I'd like them to connect into the open directory on our leopard server so they can use the Shared iCal calendars, addresses, etc.
So my questions are A) Is it possible to connect in from outside the network and get access to the directory without having to have a seperate user account and use our VPN every time you want to connect? - if not is this the only way to do it (would you have to connect via the Mac VPN and then connect to the directory?)
    B) is it possible to do this "seamlessly" so that you don't have to change any settings, login details each time you switch between your local user from outside the network and your directory access. (so basically if you are in iCal if you have internet access it will connect you to the directory, without you doing anything extra?)
Hope that makes sense, I can't seem to find the answers I need in the manuals, if I knew how this was meant to work I could probably have a fair go at figuring out how to actually do it (firewall changes etc)
Thanks in advance for the help

If your OD server is visible from the internet -- i.e., it has a public address -- then you can do this without the VPN. However, it's not advisable to have a server exposed in that fashion.
You would be better off doing this through the VPN:
    - Remote user connects to internet at hotel, for example.
    - Remote user initiates VPN connection.
    - Remote user now has access to iCal server and directory information.
Explain to the users that this information is private to the company, and private company resources are only available through the VPN. Allowing access without the VPN would be similar to the company posting its Employee roster and meeting calendars on the face of the building where any person (or competitor) could see them.

It's just one extra step: Connect to VPN. You're still the same local user on the computer.
If you're talking about laptop users needing directory access to authenticate when logging into their computers, well...That sounds like a whole other situation.
    Hopefully this helps.

  • I created a wireless network with my Time Capsule but would like to connect this network to a WiFi Hotspot for Internet Access

I have created a Wirelss Network at home with the Time Capsule and would like to connect this network to the Internet.
I can't use LAN Cable to connect to it anything becasuse I usually use the WiFi that runs through my building.
Can I connect the Time Capsule to the WiFi hotspot somehow so that all computers on my network have Internet access and if so, what do I need?
I need this done because the computers can only be connected to either the WiFi network or to my Time Capsule Network at any given time.
Or is there a way to be connected to both networks simultaneously?
I have two PC's and two Macs.
Thank you for any support and I apologise for my ignorance. I am not too good with networking.
I have tried the silliest of things like connecting a router to the TC only to then realise that the TC had an inbuilt router.
I tried connecting a USB WiFI adapter to the USB Port on the TC but it doesnt detect it that way apparently.
    Please help!

    I have a kinda same problem @ https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3531642

  • Devices drop off my EA6350 network every 1-2 days but internet access is maintained

Devices on my network disappear every few days. Internet access is maintained for computers but I can't see other devices on the network. Is there something I need to change in my settings? Do DHCP reservations affect this? The situation is very frustrating as I have to reset the router every time I want to print something or access the my web cam. Thanks in advance for any help. KF6YU
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I'm not sure about the Lease Time to No Limit. I suggest that you do IP Reservation instead or contact Linksys Support for assistance.

  • New to Networking - Verizon Wireless Broadband Internet Access

    Hello,
Just setting up my home network with a router and printer server.  However, when I went to set it up, it is looking for a cable to connect from the laptop to the router.  I use a Verizon Broadband wireless card that I insert into the pcmia slot on the laptopr, therefore, no wires involved.
Will this work with the router or do I need the cable connection for it to work.
Also, in the setup it asks not only for the IP address (which I think I found) but also a subnet, gateway, dns, etc.  Any suggestions on where I can find this info.
Or is this all just explained somewhere in an easy guide when using a wireless internet access card.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for the info.  Since I live in a rural location, the only options I have are either slow dial up with MSN or the broadband access card in my laptop with Verizon so I guess I will be limited to the internet only on my laptop if I want faster access.
One thing, though, when I open the program for the verizon card (VZaccessmanager), it shows a symbol for linksys as an available network even though I didn't provide the ISP, etc. answers.
The router that I am using is the WRT54GS and and a WPS54G print server.
And, yes, the ISP question was being asked during the final stages of router installation, along with the gateway question, etc.  Now that this isn't going to work with the access card, do I need to answer these questions?
Any help will be appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Networking problem (internet access)

My host has no internet access, but the VMware guests do. Because the host has no access, the NAT over host doesn't work when I want to access the internet.
Therefore I added a third bridged network card. With this card internet works fine, but the Oracle Cluster doesn't work any more. It seems to get confused by the added card.
What must I do to make Oracle work again? - Or is there another way to access the internet from the guest if I don't want to let the host access it?

  • How can I use Airport Express to create a standalone Wi-Fi network without Internet Access so I can browse web pages on the local network? I will be using MAMP as my server (Apache)

I would like to create my own Wi-Fi standalone network at an upcoming tradeshow where there will be NO internet access.
Currently, I run and develop sites on my iMac use MAMP to manage my sites locally. Using MAMP, I run my sites as though they are on the internet although everything is local.
I purchased an Airport Express hoping I could create a standalone network so that the iMac would broadcast its website to whatever device connects to it such as my iPhone, iPad and MacBookPro.
However, after setting up the network successfully (I have a green light on the Airport Express, and there is NO internet going through it), I  am  not able to go any further by logging into the iMac's websites from the other machines. Form my MacBookPro Finder, I can look at files and folders using afp://10.0.1.2, from the Find/Go/Connect to Server utility, but I can't browse the website that is running on the iMac via the Safari browser.
Can anyone help me configure my MacBookPro (or iPad, or iPhone) to run the website on the iMac when they are all on the same network?
    Thanks so much!!

    1) connecting the TC using a ethernet cable from one of the two modem's LAN ports to the TC's WAN port
    2) create a new Wi-Fi network using the TC ?
Does someone already create a new Wi-Fi network using its TC connected by Ethernet on a modem/router device ? How do you set up the DHCP (and NAT) ? Which range did you use ?
This is easy enough to do..
Plug the TC directly into a computer.. without other connections to do the setup.
Using the newly installed 5.6 utility.
    Bridge the TC.
    Create a wireless network.
This is an older screen shot and I would set security to WPA2 Personal only not WPA/WPA2 Personal as shown above.
I do recommend you use wireless names that are short, no spaces, pure alphanumeric.
    Update the TC..
Now plug it into the modem router.. it will be a part of the network without doing NAT and DHCP itself.. which you do not want.. that leads to double NAT issues.. but it is a WAP that provides access to devices on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands directly to the main router.

  • No Internet Access on Private Network

    Hi,
I have an and ESXi Host with few VM's and i require Internet Access on these servers. This is Mini lab i have created at home.
I have My Home Broadband Router (192.168.0.1) acting as a DHCP server handing out DHCP addresses as usual.
A Cisco 3750 with 3 Vlans created with inter vlan working with the "Ip Routing" command.
    A Physical PC
    A ESXi Host
    3 Vlans:
Vlan 100               10.0.9.1/24          (Home Vlan)          Created DHCP Pool on this Vlan on 3750
Vlan 200               10.0.10.1/24        (Voice Vlan)           Created DHCP Pool on this Vlan on 3750
Vlan 300               192.168.0.2/24     (Internet Vlan)        DHCP handing out IP's from home broadband router (Uplink setup from Home ADSL router)
    3750 Switch:
    Port 1                    ESXi Trunk
Port 2                    Home PC (Vlan 100)
Port 3 – 28             Vlan 300 and all giving DHCP addresses from home ADSL router
Home PC (Vlan 100   –   IP Address 10.0.9.52)
From Command Prompt PC can ping the following:
    10.0.9.1                (Gateway)                                                        Ping Ok!!!!!
    10.0.9.2                (ESX Host)                                                       Ping Ok!!!!!
10.0.10.1              (Gateway for Voice Vlan 200)                             Ping Ok!!!!!
192.168.0.2          (Gateway for Internet Vlan 300)                           Ping Ok!!!!!
    192.168.0.1          (Home Router & DNS)                                        No Ping…..
    Cisco 3750 Switch
    This can ping the following:
    10.0.9.1                (Gateway)                                                         Ping Ok!!!!!
    10.0.9.2                (ESX Host)                                                        Ping Ok!!!!!
10.0.10.1              (Gateway for Voice Vlan 200)                              Ping Ok!!!!!
192.168.0.2          (Gateway for Internet Vlan 300)                            Ping Ok!!!!!
192.168.0.1          (Sky router & DNS)                                             Ping OK!!!!!
My assumtion is if i have these settings on my home PC:
    IP Address     10.0.9.55
    S/M               255.255.255.0
    Gateway        10.0.9.1
    DNS Server:     192.168.0.1 (Home Router)
i should get internet access on my 10.0.9.1/24 network.
IP routing is enabled and inter Vlan is working correctly. The issue I have is I have no internet connectivity on Vlan 100 (10.0.9.1/24) from my desktop PC or any of my VM's on the 10.0.9.1/24 network and internet seems to be working fine on any device in vlan 300.
I have added my Running Config an attachment to give you a better understanding.
Please can someone find i solution as i desperately require internet access on my VM's but they need to stay on the 10.x.x.x subet due to CUCM licensing.
    Kind Regards
    Zubair

    Hi,
It sounds to me like the home router (192.168.0.1) doesnt have a route back to your 10.0.9.0/24 and 10.0.10.0/24 networks.
Can you try a source ping from your 3750 switch as follows
    ping 192.168.0.1 source 10.0.9.1
If this fails you will need to add static routes on the home router for the above networks with a next-hop of your 3750 192.168.0.2

  • Multiple Server with dedicated Internet access Network

    Hello everyone ..
Ok .. keeping it as short as I could ..
    Current setup:
2 Dell PowerEdge 2950 Servers Windows Server 2008 R2 each connected to it's own TP-Link router (TL-WR741ND) with static IP for dedicated internet connection ..
    Switch:
    Cisco Catalyst 2950 switch.
    Problems:
    1) How to connect both servers to a LAN enabling them to communicat with each other directly regadless of the separate internet access ..
    2) How to use USB-Ethernet adapter to re-configure the switch.
Any thoughts are highly appreciated ..

sounds like your dns server has stopped working or your netmask or router setting in your network config changed.
test to see if your dns failed
    ping -c 5 8.8.8.8
    ping -c 5 google.com
if 8.8.8.8 works, but google.com doesn't - then you have failed dns.
Changing your dns settings can have some consequences - so I can't provife a universal suggestion here.
In general though, your computer should be using itself for DNS (in network settings, dns, it should have 127.0.0.1 as the primary address). And your DNS server should be setup with your server hostname. Run this utility to check.
    sudo changeip -checkhostname

  • HT201334 How does one set up profile manager on a completely closed network with no Internet access available or even possible?

I need to set up Profile Manager on a completely closed network that has no Internet access at all. I can sneaker-net files into the network if I need to.
Profile Manager (and Lion Server in general) seems to need outside access to complete setup and I've been unable to find any meaningful answers.
    Does anyone any any ideas?
    Thanks to all

you could try it without enabling apple push notifications in server
you wont' be able to push out profiles without enabling apple push notification
but users could download them, or you could install manually, e-mail etc

  • How to setup the guest network just access internet only (not touch in internal server)

I had setup the AirPort Extreme in basic and guest network, but observed the guest can access to our server currently, for the security issue, we can setup the guest network to access internet only? pleae advice and thanks

By default, a properly configured Guest network on the AirPort Extreme only allows network clients to access the Internet. No access to the "main" network's resources should be available.
This is assuming that the AirPort Extreme is the only or "main" router in your current network configuration.

Yes, that will be fine providing you don't want to play any protected content.

  • Windows 7: Connected to network but no internet access???

This is my first post and I have been dealing with quite an annoying problem. I used bootcamp to install windows 7 64bit on my laptop. From the beginning I could connect to my network (Wifi) but it said "no internet access." It was like this for a while until I powered on one day, fiddled with some settings (dont remember what I did) and all of a sudden the internet worked like a charm (my fiddling probably did not make it work). Sadly three days later the internet stopped working again and I did not touch any settings! I am still connected to the network. I updated to bootcamp 3.1 with no luck. I have no idea what is wrong especially since internet works perfectly on OSX. Any suggestions???

I'm sorry but I'm not posting to answer your problem but just to say that I have a very similar issue when connected to my home network through either wireless or ethernet- connection is erratic and pages hang despite showing an excellent signal strength. I have a divided drive and have windows installed on my Macbook. I have no problems on the windows side. My friends who have ipods and iphones have similar problems connecting to my home network. I have no problems connecting wirelessly to any other network that I've tried. This is a real shame as I want to use Mac software but end up in Windows all the time. Any light anyone can shed on this would be very welcome.
