2 dead pixels near bottom after 2 months. replacable?

In addition to the two new dead pixels near the bottom edge of my screen, i also have these two LCD issues with my MB:

and
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=940945&tstart=0
I've already taken it in to try and get a replacement for the lines, but they said it was normal. I havent taken it in for the spots on the black background yet since I had doubts that they'll warrant the replacement since it's only noticeable on a black screen with little light in the room.
i now have two dead pixels near the bottom and am starting to think i should take it in to try and get a replacement. I do have the 3 year applecare plan as well.
What do you think? Anyone had their MB's replaced for bad pixels after a few months of use? Thanks.
Ryan

in the dozens of MB's i've seen in stores, i did notice that only a few had the lines issue that i have. the lines just seem like it's on the coating of the screen.
i think i will take it over to the store and see what they say. i'm not going to get a refund because, i love this macbook, even if it does have flaws, though i wouldnt mind a free replacement :-D thanks.

  • How much dead pixels I need to ask a replacement

iPad 4th gen., a week old.

As many as you think you need. If you have dead pixels and it is convenient for you to return the iPad for a replacement/refund - then take it back and show it to an Apple Store employee. Take your paperwork with you ...the box, the cable ....everything that came with the iPad ... And the receipt.

  • IPhone dead pixels?

I recently got my iPhone's screen changed after I noticed a huge amount of dead grey pixels growing near the bottom. After being replaced, it was good as new. A couple of months later and I noticed a few grey pixels at the top and they grew longer and wider by the day. At this point, I can only see half of the time and my carrier. I sent in my iPhone once more and they told me they switched my LCD, and I have payed for it as well as I no longer have a warranty but I can still see the dead pixels near the top. The first time was succesful, why not now? I'm starting to doubt the fact that they changed my LCD. Can anyone please tell me if the pixels would remain even after changing an LCD? It seems highly unlikely. Please help me as I still have the reciept and would need to take action immediately.

how can I identify stuck pixels with a magnifying glass?
You can't, but you can identify dust.

  • Dead pixel in my iPad

I was grievously disappointed to discover a dead pixel near the center of the screen in my iPad yesterday just before leaving to the U.S. from Japan.
Almost everything I have ever gotten from Apple has had a defect like this and I've had to fight fight fight to get it fixed each time.
But... I decided to see if I could get it replaced while here in the U.S.
So I made an appointment at the Genius Bar at the Apple Store at the Chestnut Hill Mall here in Boston and brought the iPad over at 2 pm.
The guy at the Bar was nice, saw the broken pixel and immediately said he'd swap it for a new one for me! So I was very pleasantly surprised and glad about that.
Then the new swapped one ALSO had a broken pixel - almost in the exact same area!!!
So he sort of sighed, but did a 2nd swap out for a 3rd iPad. This time we looked and looked (while impatient people were backed up to get help) and couldn't find a single broken pixel.
So fortunately this problem was resolved very nicely by Apple and I'm good to go. Using a 2 GB AT&T contract with an AT&T SIM card while I'm in the U.S.
I'm surprised that two iPads in a row had a broken pixel, and almost in the same area. But I was really pleased at the friendly, reassuring service I got at the Genius Bar.

    Yes, extraordinary bad luck.
While I haven't had problems with my desktop Macs (iMacs) or my iPhone 3G, every other mobile/portable device I ever bought from Apple, going back 20 years, has had something go wrong with it, usually from the start, often multiple times. Examples:
    - Duo: the screen had multiple broken pixels and needed to be replaced from the start.
    - iBook: the wireless card (then an option) was set improperly and wasn't working. Needed to be sent back for repair.
    - PowerBook G4: broken pixels needing replacement from the start, keyboard problems requiring top case and kb replacement. Also, that model had a really poorly designed cover that never closed properly (the famous wiggling cover problem.)
    - MacBook Pro: Failure 2 times in 3 years of my trackpad requiring replacement; broken pixels requiring replacement; hard disk failure requiring replacement. Two replacements of mother board! The last one 2 months after my AppleCare warranty ran out, but Apple fixed it anyway. Keyboard needing replacement. I'm using it right now on my trip to the U.S. and it's still working after almost 4 years, but it definitely has taken advantage of the AppleCare warranty multiple times. And I'm not a rough user - I almost never take it off my desk, except on travel.
    - iPod nano: Don't even get me started on that one. The screen was tilted (big discussion thread here) - they sent me 3 replacements, one worse than the other. I finally had to go to the Japan consumer affairs agency to force Apple to give me a refund. Which they finally did, with an apology and a gift certificate to use at the online store.
    - iPad: broken pixel needing replacement, followed by a 2nd iPad with another broken pixel needing immediate replacement.
This is just what I can remember off the top of my head.
Unless I am unusually unlucky, my own sampling over the years tells me that while Apple support is great and they take care of the problems after the fact, they definitely have quality issues coming out of the factory to begin with.
I always have to "mentally prepare myself" before buying an Apple product because I know I am very likely going to have to invest a certain amount of time in dealing with Apple support and getting things fixed afterwards. Eventually it turns out ok each time, but just knowing I will have to deal with it is stressful.

  • Third replacement... more dead pixels (27" i7 iMac)

I'm so sad... we just unboxed a new iMac after waiting a month for the last dud to be replaced, and there is a pair of black, dead pixels near the middle of the screen.
I really hoped this one would not have any obvious defects.

Ask for a refund and hope Apple can get it right soon.

  • 3 Day Old Macbook Pro. Dead pixel.

I just got a MBP and it has a dead pixel near the bottom and bit off center to the left. I´ve tried just about every thing to fix it, but nothing.
I called the place we bought it, and the stupid Apple policy can only replace it if it has 5 or more dead pixels. There is literally nothing I can do? It´s the most annoying thing ever. I shouldn`t have to pay thousands of dollars to have a fault screen, even if it is just one single pixel.

hard to say, it depends on the product and how much it cost.
If this happened to me again, and was a less expensive computer, I likely wouldn't care as much. It'd still bug the heck outta me, but I'd be able to learn to deal with it.
For what macs cost, I don't have any qualms or any guilt about expecting things to be pretty much perfect. I understand there will be things slightly wrong here and there due to mass production, but when its something glaringly obvious like a stuck/dead pixel, that's where I draw the line.
And besides, there is no publicly stated rule that says it has to be 5 dead/stuck pixels before a replacement/refund. I know Apple has that knowledge base article on stuck/dead pixels, but last I checked, it didn't stipulate any rules when trying to exchange/return a computer for dead pixels.
I can't say I agree with your statement about how few LCDs are perfect. Out of the entire time I've purchased electronics, I've only encountered just 2 instances of a stuck pixel. Perhaps I've just been lucky, I don't know, but I'm seriously not kidding.
Lastly at this point, it seems absurd to still think that stuck/dead pixels are acceptable due to cost. While this might have been the case a few years ago, if cost is the big reason as to why we're supposed to accept dead/stuck pixels, how is it possible that companies like Dell can offer a guarantee on no stuck/dead pixels for their LCDs?

  • Dead pixels on 2 ipod touches

i've just recieved my second ipod touch after noticing more than 6 dead pixels on the first, well this one looked ok until i saw a line of dead pixels near the edge of the screen, Great, i thought got another one with dead pixels - i dont know whether to register it or not, and put my music on it, or send it back to amazon OR contact apple...
i sent the last one back to amazon but i dont know whether to do that again!
    please help!

I wouldn't send it back to Apple, some people on this forum are saying that they send it back to Apple and sometimes they say "Unable to duplicate the issue" and send the same iPT back to you.
I'd send it back to Amazon, get a refund and go to a store and get one. I went through 5 iPTs from Apple Store, all with stuck-pixels, until I gave up getting from one them and getting a perfect one from Best Buy. Do not keep a mal-functioning unit no matter how many you go through. Hope this helps.

  • Sudden dead pixel?

I recently replaced the hard drive in my late 2009 iMac, and after carefully reassembling the components, I've got what appears to be a dead pixel near the middle of my screen. (I really hope it's just dust.)
Assuming the worst and that it is a dead pixel, what would've caused it? I was exceptionally careful when working inside the iMac, only lifting out the display the bare minimum distance to access the hard drive, and the only display cable I unplugged during the process was the vertical sync ribbon cable.
    Any thoughts?

It's really hard to tell, because if it's a dead pixel (or "dark pixel anomaly"), then it's a single one. As such, it's really difficult to see, even when I've looked at the thing close up. However, I'm beginning to lean towards dead pixel, as I can't see any colors through it at all; tried a variety of different backgrounds.
I'll open the display up again and clean it out again just to make sure, but if it's a dead pixel, there is no fix for that short of replacing the entire display, correct?

  • Anyone have an iPod 5G with no dead pixels???

i bought my gf a black one online at apple.ca for her birthday on Oct 27 and then noticed 2 big light blue dead pixels 1 week after we received it. I sent it back after the poor girl only got to use it for 1 week , and guess what it's been over 1 month already, and it's still being processed by Apple!!! Although they said they are replacing it, there's still nothing for her to listen to for over a month! To make the story even more ironic, today we both bought a new white 60gig ipod for her dad for christmas, and i just opened it a few minutes ago to upload some songs for him, and guess what! 1 big blue dead pixel right on the middle left of the screen! Sigh... good thing this time we bought it at the local bestbuy store and got the extended warranty, so we are able to just exchange it right away, instead of waiting, for God knows how long, until Apple sends another one to my girl.
I'm just wondering if every single iPod out there has dead pixels, because it is only noticable when we watch videos on it... but when we do see it, it is really bad and noticeable.
Please, if anyone out there has watched movies on their iPod and don't have any dead pixels, let us know!!!!

thx for your replies guys, that gives me some hope... hopefully i can exchange for another one that won't have this problem. greatly appreciate your helpful comments!

  • IPad 2, 64MB 3G w/ Dead Pixel

I stood in line for over 4 hours today for my iPad 2 (64MB, 3G, AT&T) and after I boot up it up the first thing right in the dead center of the screen -- a dead pixel.
    FML.
Anyone else with this problem. I'm going to attempt to take it back tomorrow. I didn't wait over a year and over $1,000 to have a dead pixel on my new iPad 2.

Anyone who says a genius may be able to fix a dead pixel is an idiot. A dead pixel can't be fixed, without replacing the LCD. A stuck pixel is possible, but I've never, not once seen a pixel be fixed.
That being said- I spotted a tiny black spot on mine. Not sure if it is dust under the screen or a dead pixel- either way my eye seems to jump to it when the area is blank.
Apparently the stores get a bunch of models in that aren't available for sale, but for situations like this. They can swap out no problem. If you want a retail swap- you've gotta wait for a model like yours to come in- which for me may mean a while since I have a job and can't get to the mall at 8am and wait in a line every day for their newest shipment.

  • Dead-pixel or scratched screen?

I just got my new MBP 13" 2012 and this is what I see right in the middle of the LCD. It has a rainbow color effect when viewing at different angles on a white background. It does not show on a black background giving reason that it might not be a dead-pixel (off state) after all. Is this then a scratch/crack on the LCD screen?
(*) Sorry about the upside down pictures...

Take it back, you have a defective model, it happens.

  • IBook dead pixels?

How many people have a dead pixel on a new iBook? I love my new iBook 12", except for a dead pixel near the center. An apple support tech sent me some documents that explain how this is acceptable and normal, and the Genius at the Apple store agrees. While one pixel may be acceptable, in years of owning cheap-brand PC laptops I have never seen one dead pixel, and nobody I know with a iBook or PowerBook has one either...nor do the demos at the Apple store? Anyone care to comment? I'm just suprised to see such a defect on an Apple, even if they consider it acceptable. I love the computer itself, just a bit disappointed.

I completely disagree. Us users pay a lot of money for our computers. Apple has no right to take our money and give us products with logic board, dead pixel, scratch issues. They have no right to sell us such bad quality products.
I know a lot of people on these Discussions will try to kill me now. But come on, let's face it. Apple has f*cked up on its quality control.
They have offered to have logic boards replaced on certain iBooks. They have not however said anything about dead pixels or scratches. I know they have some rule where you must have 5 dead pixels in order to get it repaired. That's a load of rubbish. Us users don't have to put up with a bad quality screen. We pay a lot for our items and we don't expect any shortfall in the value we get for it.
I just hope Apple don't go down the Microsoft route...

  • IPhone with Dead Pixel

Hey i have a dead pixel and i jsut got my replacment iPhone on monday and i dont know if i should call and get a replacment...
    what should i do?

I think you need more than one to get it replaced. I went through 8 months with my original iPhone having 1 stuck pixel and Apple wouldn't do anything. Just have to learn to live with it.

  • Dead Pixel on iphone 4s

I received an iphone 4s last may 16, 2012 from korea. I noticed a tiny black spot and turned out to be a dead pixel. Can i have it replaced here in the philippines??

A dead pixel is a hardware issue.
If it bothers you that much, do a warranty exchange.

  • IPad 2 - Dead Pixels

I just sent my original iPad 2 in because it had a bunch or dead pixels in the screen. My replacement iPad just got here and there are still more dead pixels in the screen. What do I do?

If you have dead or stuck pixels on an iPad 2, you need to make an appointment with the Genius Bar at your local Apple store.  If found to be defective, Apple will likely replace the unit.  Make sure you back it up before you go to Apple.
