2 different DVD Regions with 2 players?

I installed a Pioneer DVR superdrive as a second drive to the Apple DVD stock player. Can I set a different DVD region to each one? (Region 1 for one, and Region 2 for the second)

The Apple DVD Player application will only play from the first (master) drive (unless they have recently removed the restriction). This was due to the DVD license agreement that Apple signed to get the decrypting software, and is designed to stop you from doing what you're trying to do. VLC or flashing a drive to RPC-1 are ways around this.

  • Does iDVD encode dvd's with a particular region on them?

I have relatives in Mexico who I would like to share some dvd's with, but I'm concerned about their dvd players which are typically region 4. Will iDVD encode dvd's with a particular region?

No, DVDs made on your Mac are 'region 0' which mean they will play anywhere. Nor will they attempt to change the region code on a Mac.
Of more concern to you if whether Mexico (Region 4) uses NTSC the same as the US (Region 1). It does!

  • My dvd looks different on different DVD players

i have two different DVD players (which i tested on two different TV's to make sure this was a DVD question and not a TV question). DVD player A is a sony, DVD player B is a GE (and older model) DVD player. everything looks great and normal on the sony DVD player while everything is somewhat zoomed in on the GE DVD player. all of my titles go off the screen. why is this?

    Hi,
check the settings of the GE Player. There may be an option for setting the right screen format, like 4:3, 16:9, letterbox,...

  • DVD made with iDVD not playing in DVD players

I have a iMac G5 and iDVD 4. I use FCP to edit. I have made many DVDs from exporting my sequences to quicktime. Then I import that export into iDVD, and this has always been fine. For some reason, my latest project will only play on my computer using this method, not any of my 3 DVD players. What could be causing this? Did I change a setting I'm unaware of? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I've watsed a good many blank DVDs from this glitch. Thank you!

I have a similar problem having to do with the menu.
I have a client who needs dvds burned with their logo as a background. When I import a tiff (or any other format) into iDVD4.0.1 on the simplest template available (brushed metal 2) everything burns fine, the disk plays on a computer, but on commercial dvd deck it freezes when you hit play (one unit indicates "pause" on the display). If I remove the graphic from the background, and burn that to disk
    , it plays fine.
The iDVD help says you can drag your own photos to a menu, so if this is causing a problem, they certainly aren't aware of it. What bugs me, is why isn't there a "blank" template (or is there one that I've missed)?
BTW this has also happened to me at work two years ago with an earlier version of iDVD. Yet it doesn't happen on my client's version of iDVD (I have a call in to see what version they have). And who do you call when Apple only refers you to forums?
Thanks for any info, and please excuse any ignorance on my part.

  • Recording fios tv to DVD recorder with tivo/fios cablecard

ok this post is for my dad....and if ur thinking why the hack does he want a dvd recorder when they already have a tivo...don't ask my dad is kinda weird he still "tapes" shows on VHS tapes using vcr, and tapes radio shows on cassettes....then again he also still pyas his bills with a pen, a check and the us postal service.....
anyway, I didn't know much about the world of dvd recorders before a couple days ago, so I have a few questions before and if I actually decide to get him one.
Question 1: we currently have an HD TV with an HD tivo connected and a multistream verizon fios cablecard. My question is regarding copyright limitations....what prevents you from just recording any tv program onto dvd, as you still can onto a VHS? and what percentage of the channels/shows have this protection? like would he only be able to record from the original 12 or so broadcast channels? this is my main concern....he watched a lot of the sports channels like espn espn2 golf channel nbatv etc....
Question 2: also, when doing my research I thought of another benefit a dvd recorder may have. I have been putting all the family home videos which are on vhs onto dvd, but it's a bit of a process. I use an external usb capture device made by Hauppage hooked up to the VCR then the computer captures it realtime and generates an mpeg video file on my hard drive, THEN I have to spend the 1 or 2 hours it takes to convert to DVD format and burn with Nero so it can be played on a regular DVD player......so....question being....
can a standalone DVD recorder hook up to a VCR to transfer video direct to a DVD, or do you have to buy a DVD recorder with a built in VHS deck?
Question 3: oh and someone once told me that you can only play the recorded DVD's on the recorder, and not other regular DVD players...I couldn't believe this was actually true...but was he right?
    TIA!

    Answers:
Question 1: if the DVD recorder is connected to the TIVO there shouldn't be anything prohibiting him from recording. The signal sent out from the TIVO is an unencrypted feed that can be processed by anything (TV, VCR, DVD recorder, ETC). As long as theres no restrictions within the DVD recorder itself, you should be fine to record anything. This also means you have to record realtime (press play on TIVO and record on the DVD recorder and wait the amount of time for the event to end before pressing stop)
Question 2: You would need to talk to the tech support for your DVD recorder. Its going to depend on what types of video streams and formats it will accept as a source
Question 3nce again this is a question for the DVD recorder tech support, not Verizon. It depends on the file format that the recorder saevs the file as. Not only that, but different players also can read different formats. So you have to take a look at the recorder and the dvd play back device

  • DVD Region locked?

I want to change the DVD Region back to my own country and it says that I have one change left but won't let me, why?
    Is it locked?
VLC won't play this DVD, what other players with play DVDs?

Set up a new account.  If the problem appears there, then you will know it's a system wide.
    Run Apple Hardware Test.
    =================
Disconnect all devices from the computer then do the following:
Boot up from your Snow Leopard Install DVD while holding down the "c" key.
Select the language you wish to use, and then choose "Disk Utility" from the menu bar.
Your HD should appear in a panel on the left hand side of the window which opens. Select it and then click on the "repair disk" button in the right hand section of the window.
Once this process has been completed restart your computer and repair permissions directly from Disk Utility.
    Try changing the DVD region.
If Disk Utility is unable to complete the repair, you will need to use a stronger 3rd party utility like DiskWarrior, Techtool PRO (not Deluxe) or Drive Genius.

  • Dvd region changes? Is it possible to reset after I maxed out my chances?

I changed my dvd region for the last time by mistake and now it is stuck on that. Is it possible to change the dvd region?

    Sorry, no.
Region encoding is the mechanism that enables motion picture studios to control the worldwide release of their movies. It is required by the DVD Forum (http://www.dvdforum.org/forum.shtml) in all commercial hardware DVD players. Every DVD-Video disc contains one byte of data representing a region code, which limits where the disc can be played.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2397
Once you have set the region in DVD Player five times it cannot be changed.
Instead, use VLC to view videos from different regions:

  • DVD project with movie and additional files on same disk?

    Hi-
Dell 9200 (aka XPS 410), WinXP Pro SP2, Encore 2.0.
I have a DVD project that I am assembling and need to include different types of files on the same DVD. I have an educational movie that is already formatted on a stand-alone DVD (just like one you would rent from Blockbuster). It needs to go onto a DVD along with some additional supporting files in .pdf and .txt file formats. The DVD has to be able to autostart and play on both a home TV/DVD setup as well as a computer. Users also need to be able to access the additional .pdf and .txt files if it is viewed on a computer. Can these two viewing arrangements co-exist on one DVD? Seems to me that it would all work fine if I converted the stand-alone DVD movie into a something like a Quicktime or Windows Media file, created a XHTML file that can be used as an autostart menu, and then link the movie, .pdf and .txt files from there. All of this can then be burned onto one DVD that can be viewed on a computer, but I assume it would NOT be able to be viewed on a TV/DVD home setup. On the other hand, If I created a DVD using Encore I could just make an autostart screen with menu, but I don't think the menu would suppport something like linking to the .pdf and .txt documents (not that they could be viewed on a home TV/DVD setup anyway.
So, am I looking at having to make two separate DVDs--one with the movie and one with the additional .pdf and .txt materials? Would this have to go onto a dual-sided DVD? One side with the movie and one side with the additional materials? Would it be best to just convert the movie and stick all the files on one DVD? (Even though my boss hates this idea because it will reduce the quality of the current DVD movie).
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    -=Scott

eDVD is one option. It uses the Interactual Player to link to your extra content directly from the DVD material. Your other option is just to create your own separate content for use on computers. DVD players only pay attention to the VIDEO_TS folder, which must be in the root directory. If you also have an autorun.inf in the root directory, Windows-based systems will follow the instructions there rather than treating the disc as a DVD-Video disc. So you could use an autorun.inf to launch whatever you want to play on the computer (Director projector, other executable, etc.). You can add that extra stuff to the DVD either by using the "ROM Content" feature in Encore or by building to a folder and then burning your disc with other burning software (be sure to use the UDF filesystem or it won't work in DVD players).
    Notes:
    1. Mac computers will still launch whatever application is set to handle DVD-Video discs in the System Preferences (usually the Apple DVD player).
    2. If computer users need to view the DVD-Video content, you will need to give them some help in doing that. (i.e. instructions to manually launch their software DVD player, linking directly to the DVD-Video content from your Director project, providing a separate copy of the video, etc.)
    3. eDVD's effectiveness is diminished by the fact that it requires installation of the Interactual player. If the user is unwilling/unable to install software on their computer, such as many corporate/educational users, they will be unable to take advantage of the eDVD features.

  • Do I have any control over DVD regions in iDVD?

I'd like to submit movies to international festivals. Some specify DVDs (NTSC or PAL) applicable to specific "regions". Can I create DVDs "Region" specific in iDVD?
    traut

    Hi
NO - iDVD set's Region to Zero - open to all nations
PAL and NTSC - Has nothing to do with Region coding - They are TV-Standards
    • PAL = 25 frames per second (most common system in EU)
    • NTSC = 29.97 frames per second (standard in USA etc)
Most PAL DVD-Players can playback both PAL and NTSC (on old TV NTSC in Black/White)
Few NTSC DVD-Players can playback PAL
One can create a Project in one standard in iMovie and set iDVD to the other one.
    • CONVERSION is made BADLY - the DVD is barely worth to be viewed !
I do (when sending DVDs to US)
    • Export out my PAL movie as full quality QuickTime .mov
    • Convert it to NTSC via JES_Deinterlacer (free from Internet)
    • Set up a new iDVD Project and this to NTSC standard
This way gives very good result (I'm told) and alternative professional frame converting tools - Has astronomical costs - and resulting quality barely noticeable
BUT - If DVD is played on a Mac - then PAL or NTSC - DOES NO MATTER AT ALL !

  • DVD regions - Any way around it?

Just wondering if there's a way to play different regions on the MacBook - last time I tried some European DVD's it asked me to change regions - I can do so up to 5 time - That's NOT GOOD! Any way to set it to Universal? so I dont have to change regions - I like to flip between my DVD's that are from all over the world. Perhaps a software that works? Any input is appreciated

    Hi,
I would suggest getting an external Firewire DVD drive with a Pioneer mechanism and using a third party DVD player like "VLC" to play DVDs off that.
Unfortunately, there is currently only one company that makes the 9.5mm (vs 12.5mm in other laptops) optical drives in the MacBook, and they go far further than required by their DVDCCA license in preventing people from playing other region discs. I have a MBP and I have the same problem.

  • Changing DVD Regions

If I can play a DVD in Region2/Pal, how do change the DVD region in a MacBook Pro drive?
    Thank you

"Changing the region code of a DVD drive
"Most DVDs are assigned a region code that corresponds to a geographic area, to help motion picture studios control the worldwide release of movies. The first time you play a DVD with a region code, you may be asked to set the DVD drive to match that code; DVD Player is restricted to playing only discs with that same region code or with no region code. If you insert a DVD that uses a different region code, a dialog appears asking you if you want to change the DVD drive’s region code.
"IMPORTANT:You can change the region code of a DVD drive only five times (including the original setting); the fifth setting is permanent. Don’t change the region code of a DVD drive unless you expect to play only DVDs that match the new region code in the future.
To change a DVD drive’s region code:
"In the dialog, choose a new region code setting for the DVD drive."

  • Change DVD region on external DVD Player

I have a DVD player that was set to region 1. It now is not. It says that I have 3 DVD region changes left (yeah, I know you only get 5). I don't know how it changed to a different region, but now I need it to change back to region 1, so I can watch movies again. I have a samsung external dvd player. Any suggestions?

    Hi V
Yes there are several possible origins to this:
    • burning the DVD with x16 speed often gives so much errors that they doesnt work
    • using a cheap brand - same
    • wrong type of DVD
    • to little free space on internal (start-up) hard disk
    1. I make a DiskImage then use Toast™ to burn with x1 speed (one can use Apple Disk Util tool to do this - in iDVD08 one can select burn-speed)
    2. I use Verbatim DVD-R
    3. I use -R no +R or +/-RW disks
    4. iDVD needs 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. 10Gb might work but slow.
<5Gb if it reaches to goal - most probably an useless DVD disk is the result.

  • How to create the Contribution region with Native document

    HI,
I have the below scenario to have the Contribution region in my custom page.
    1) I am displaying all Campaign records in primary page.
    2) When I click on each Campaign record, this will take me to secondary page to display the Editable Contribution region assigned with Native document.
    My requirement :
    3) I have 4 more Contribution Regions which will have to relate to the same above said Campaign in secondary page. To achieve this, I have only one contribution region with multiple elements within that region in my secondary page.
Please let me know how I can add different native documents to 4 different Contribution Regions. Now if I add different document to the region, same document will be assigned to the each region having different elements. Also if I add multiple regions in secondary page, primary page will only point to first region available in that secondary page.
Please let me know how I can add 4 different native documents to 4 different Contribution Regions available in secondary page. It would be great if any one give idea as soon as possible.
    Thanks in advance.
Anyone did not come across this type of scenario?
    Thanks,
    Ramesh

The secondary page is used to display a specified content item. One content item, specified on demand. Only one. Period.
If you want to assign multiple content items to multiple regions, well you're talking about primary pages.
