2 different iTunes on same computer

recently my sister bought and iPod. we have only 1 good computer, but i don't want all of her songs to go on my smaller iPod. is there a way to have 2 different iTunes programs on the same computer so she can control what goes into her ipod??
we have already tried downloading for the web and the cd that came with her iPod, but it only updated my existing iTunes. please help

There are a couple of methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer. Have a look at the article linked below. Method one is to have two Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you two completely separate libraries. Method two is to set your preferences so each iPod is updated with only certain playlists within one library. Method two is a good way to go if you have a smaller iPod, you can create a playlist especially for it and just add and remove songs from it as you like without removing them from the iTunes library. You can even have each iPod set differently, one updating the whole library and the other just a selected play;ist: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer

Itunes Reauthorize same computer: I deauthorized all computers, not I can't find the option to reauthorize the same computer.  The option has disappeared.  I'm using windows 8

In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.
More On De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

  • Can't Access iTunes Library on a Different Disk, but Same Computer

In order to avoid conflicts, I installed FCP X on a separate start-up disk and kept FCP Studio on its original start-up disk.  Since FCP X is now on a different start-up disk, however, I can no longer access my iTunes Library from within it and the music I already own.
How is the best way to gain access to the Library?  Is there a way to set a pointer to it?  Does it have to be duplicated in its entirety and moved to the new start-up drive?  What is the process I need to follow?
    Any help appreciated.

Uh, I fear you followed some wrong directions. This is what you should have done:
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
do not confuse moving your whole folder and library with moving just media files as in
iTunes for Mac: Moving your iTunes Media folder - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449
It sounds as if in part at least this is what you did, at least when you say you are going to preferences and changing things.
Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.  Do this with both computers if the shared library file is on the external drive.
Note, the file can only be in use by one computer at a time.  You will have to quit iTunes on one computer before opening it on another.

  • Is there a way to share iTunes music between different users on same computer?

Just bought a new iMac and want to share my library with my wife on same computer. We have separate user profiles on the computer, but don't want to have to import entire 200gb library twice onto the same machine. Is there a way to get her profile to see my music on the same computer?
    Thanks for any help!

  • Multiple users with different Ipods on same computer

My household has one general computer that is used by myself and my two teenage daughters. We don't use separate logins because it is used mostly to just go online, check our email, and use Itunes along with updating our Ipods. This works fine for us except that we have different Ipods. My girls have the Ipod Mini's and I have the Ipod (with video screen).
My question is this: Can one computer (running WinXPProSp2)authorize two different Ipods under the same user name? Also, can two (or three) different Ipods be "authorized" on the same computer?

Yes, your not really authorizing ipods, you just authorize a PC to play songs you buy from iTUnes. Once its authorized all ipods can play the song that connect to it.
You can separate the music that is loaded to each iPod (Like your music only added to your ipod and your girls ipods only updating there music to there ipods) By creating your own playlist and setting the ipod to update them. • Different accounts on same computer

My wife and I each have separate itunes accounts on the same computer.  But when I open up itunes now, her account opens, but I can't access mine.  I can't figure out how to log her off.  There is an option to log her off for the store, so she can buy music with my account, but not to log off her library so I can access my library.  Help? Thanks!

I have been able to share my media using Home Sharing on different accounts on the same computer. All you need to do is make sure you use the same Apple ID for all of the accounts when you set up homesharing and have all of the accounts logged into at the same time. Then you will be able to transfer media back and forth.

  • Using 2 versions of itunes on same computer

I currently have a Mini using Version 5.?, having upgraded and had problems in the past with the various Quicktime versions that accompany it. I want to stick to this version.
I have bought my daughter a nano - which will need a different version of itunes.
Can she install it on her desktop of same computer without effecting my installation? Or should she install it on her brothers lap top? You can hear the arguments already!!!

she shouldn't have to upgrade anything with respect to itunes. the nano only needs version 4.9 to run properly:

Hey guys, my brother has an Ipod and I'm going to get one. I was wondering if Windows can run two Itunes on the same computer. Since Itunes goes with a certain Ipod, I just wanted to know if I install it will it delete his Itunes, or will it not show up at all for me.

  • Two Apple ID's for two different people on same computer causing issues

My husband and I have two different Apple ID's on our main computer.  I tried to download some items I bought but I keep receiving a message that if I download from another ID I wouldn't be allowed to download past or current purchases from another ID.  How can we both use the same computer with our separate ID's, make purchases and download those purchases?

A computer or device can only be associated with one Apple ID at a time. This is why you get the error. If you continue to wsitch from one account to another and keep downlaoding, you will trigger the 90 day limit. When taht happens, you need to wait for 90 days before you can switch users.

  • Homesharing - struggling with different accounts on same computer

Hi - hope somebody can help with this. Could you talk me through how to set up homesharing on the same computer for 3 different accounts (me, wife and son - the latter with parental controls). I've tried turning on the homesharing function and the "look for homesharing" but am having no joy. would be grateful for any help. Thanks.

I have been able to share my media using Home Sharing on different accounts on the same computer. All you need to do is make sure you use the same Apple ID for all of the accounts when you set up homesharing and have all of the accounts logged into at the same time. • 1. How do I separate my library from my kids'? We have different itunes accounts, 1 computer.

How do I separate my library from my kids'?  We have different iTunes accounts and log in and out when we sync our various devices, all on one Windows 8 (new to us) computer.  All I want is to plug my devices in and sync ONLY my songs!  I've been managing to manually manage and check and uncheck songs, but it's such a pain and that doesn't always work anyway.  It is as if there are more than 2 locations for my music and I just want them all to show up in my own library.  Does that make sense?  Please help.

Stop manually managing content, that is simply not smart or efficient.
Create playlists with the desired content, sync those playlists to the device. iTunes remembers what to sync to each device.
If you really want to split the library, that can be done but it will be a time consuming and entirely manual process.
