  • How do I get my music from my account on old computer to new computer? And how do I have two seperate itunes accounts on one computer?

I had my music on my itunes on my old computer (pc), and need to move it to my husband's computer. My husband and I both have iphones and want to keep using our seperate itunes accounts on one computer, as we both have our own media set up on our accounts. I had burned my music from the old computer onto discs and imported onto the new one...works in the library but I can't put them into playlists, which means I can't put the music on my iphone. As for using two seperate accounts on one computer, it was suggested to me to make another profile on windows (vista), and use the second account on that profile. I did that and have had such a frustrating time trying to get this to work. I don't know if I've done something wrong, but it's just headache after headache. Somehow my apps even ended up on my husband's account? Also, how can we share music between our profiles? It seems ridiculous that we should have to buy an album twice just because we have to different accounts. I would be willing to create a third joint account with my husband, but only if we can still have our own music, apps, etc, and can somehow transfer the music we have to this new account...if possible.  Suggestions please???? I'm so close to pulling out my hair over this!!!

You'll need to copy the music currently on your iPod to your new PC and into iTunes first before you can sync it to the new iPod.

  • How do you use two seperate iTunes accounts on one computer?

My wife and I have seperate iTunes accounts and content. We both have an iPod and iPhone. We purchased a new Macbook Pro because our other computers were fried. How do we both use the same computer to access our own iTunes accounts and sync our own iPhone and iPod to it to update our respective toys? I have already transferred all my content to the new laptop and am able to sync my iPhone and iPod. Now I just need to figure out how to get my wife's content on this new laptop so she can sync her iPhone and iPod. Does anyone know how to do this? I assume this is a common request.

one option would be to create a separate user account for your wife. click here to learn "how to share music between different accounts on a single computer"
another option would be to authorize iTunes to use/play content purchased with both your iTunes accounts.that's basically very easy. all you have to do is +log out+ of one account (click on the account name in the Store window and select +sign out+ from the pop-up dialog) and into the other, and then they will both be authorized. (be sure to just *log out*, not de-authorize ).

  • What is the best way to manage multiple devices with one iMac - different users with seperate itunes accounts or one mac user with different itune logons and libraries?

    Hello
I have just purchased an imac which I am very happy with.  In our household we also have two iphones (one mine and one husbands) and one ipod (my sons). We all have individual itunes accounts set up on our previous computer (not a mac). We have sepereate apps and music, although there may be the odd occasion where we would like to share a song (if this is possible) across devices.
I am just wondering the best way to manage these devices using the new imac.  Should I create individual accounts to logon to the imac, then from within these launch our own itunes accounts and sync our devices with these.  Or should I be using one version of itunes, logging on to this with our different itunes usernames and storing things in libraries.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I am presuming that we cannot share downloaded apps and music between accounts because of the copyright issue,
Though I'm no copyright lawyer, as long as it's within a household, you can share content among users. Such sharing is, absent specific language preventing it not present in the iTunes Store terms of use, generally considered to be "personal use". So you can share apps and music amongst your users on your computer and with their devices. You just can't give any of that content to friends or relatives who don't live with you.
What I am not clear on, it making sure that this appears in each itunes account - is it easy to find the file storage folders that match the itunes accounts and what would these be?
The iTunes library and files are by default in a user's Home/Music folder. But you don't have to find the folder; in fact putting a file into the folder yourself won't add the file to iTunes. Just drag the file into the iTunes window. iTunes will copy it to the correct location.

  • Having two seperate itunes accounts on one pc

Does anyone know how I can accomplish this? I have an ipod and have had my itunes account for years. I just bought a new nano for my wife, but I have been unable to set up a second, seperate itunes program and account on the same pc just for her. I don't want her to have to deselect all of my music every time she wants to update her nano.
    Thanks!

There are a number of methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer. Method one is to have two Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you two completely separate libraries. Method two is to set your preferences so that either one or both iPods get updated with only certain playlists within one library. Have a look at this article and see what you think and go for whichever you feel suits your needs best: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
If you choose the update option "automatically update selected playlists only" you can create a playlist specifically for the new iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used by the other iPod. Make your playlist a Smart playlist and limit the size to just below the advertised capacity of your iPod (For a Nano that's around 1800MB for a 2G). You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or of course you could set the Nano to "manually manage songs and playlists" and drag whatever you like to it.
    For info:
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

  • Setting up two seperate itunes accounts on one computer

I just bought my mom an ipad. How do I set up an itunes account for her on my mac where I already have one for myself? We do not necessarily read the same books or listen the same music, so I'd like them seperate, yet on my computer. A person told me "just make a new acount"... ok, but I don't see where that new account option is?!

Just for clarification, Niel's directions set up a new user account on the computer with its own iTunes library, not an iTunes "account" as such.  "Account" is a misnomer. iTunes itself doesn't have accounts on the computer (yes, the store has accounts but that  isn't on your computer).  You can create multiple libraries with collections of media under one computer user account but this can be tricky to manage and you may be best off creating a user account for your mother with her own iTunes collection in that.  It is possible to share things on the computer.

  • Installing 2 seperate itunes accounts on one computer

I have two ipods; a 30GB ipod which is in sync with the itunes that I have on my computer. I have an additional 2GB ipod nano which I first installed on a privious computer I owned. The ipod nano has different songs than my current itunes Library and I no longer have the computer I had before. Is there a way of installing a seperate itunes program or account which will seperate the ipods? I want each ipod to contain different music.

You don't necessarily have to have two separate accounts in order for your iPods to have different songs.
When you attach the iPod, you can designate which playlists to sync and which not to sync. The only thing, since you no longer have the computer with the songs on your nano, you'll need to use a program like YamiPod to copy the tracks from the iPod to the hard disk so that they can be imported into your iTunes Library before you sync it.
After you install the program, with iTunes NOT running, you can connect the nano, and use YamiPod to copy everything off.

Create another user in Windows > Start Menu > Control Panel > User Accounts.
This way you log out and into another to use it, complete with it's own iTunes Library, content and playlists.
You can transfer content to the other user using a USB key.

Can I set up two seperate ITune accounts on one MacBook? If so, how?

Exactly what do you mean by set up?
In iTunes you can authorize more than one iTunes accounts using the 'Authorize This Computer…' command under the Store menu. Run the commend twice for each account.
Here's an article that explains what I'm talking about.

For what reason would you do that?
Simply connect the device, select the content desired to sync and sync.
iTunes remembers the sync profile per device.
