2 distinct movies in Compressor?

Is it possible in Compressor to directly make a DVD with 2 distinct movies?

Both Compressor and FCPX use the same app (Create Disk) to make simple, one track disks – DVD and BD.
To put two movies on the same disk, use FCPX. Separate the the two sequences on the timeline by a gap clip. Insert chapter markers so you can do some basic navigation.
Good luck.

  • Disabling Saving of Quicktime Movies In Compressor

I'm creating a bunch of Quicktime Movies in compressor and I want to disable the save as option that the end user can see. (The drop down box on the lower right). I know I can do it through HTML by setting kioskmode to true, but that seems like an extra step.
Cleaner had this function years ago - why can't I find it in Compressor?
How can I make Compressor my one stop shop to compress as a H264 quicktime file, with fast start - compressed header, flatten for playback on all computers, and disable the end-users ability to save my quicktime file through the drop down in the player.
Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!
    Doug

iWeb doesn't write the html page code until the file is published and you would have to hand edit those files to add some code.
iWeb also uses special javascript to load QuickTime browser plug-in (and your file) and you would need to edit them to add.
The "old" html method is to add the kioskmode="true" tags and that same code can be added to the .js file made by iWeb. It stops "Pro" users from having the "Save" menu.
Since I don't have iWeb on my Mac mini, and I haven't looked very hard at the javascript code made by it, I don't have your answer.
iWeb 2 does include a QuickTime Inspector that can set some parameters but I don't know its options.

  • FCP: Quicktime Movie or Compressor

    Hello,
I would like to move my FCP movie to a DVD. Will I get better quality using compressor, Quicktime or a QT conversion? I was at the Apple Store this morning, working with someone on this issue at a one to one session and he seemed a little uncertain. He recommended Compressor but then wasn't clear on how it worked.
According to him, I send the movie to compressor, drag the location (desktop in this case) twice, one for video one for Audio, to the upper box, then drag the desired setting (DVD Best Quality 90 Min) placing the Dolby audio on top of one location and the MPEG.2 (video) on the second location. Hit submit.
Five hours later two files were to appear on my desktop which I was to drag into IDVD. The two files that have appeared are a Dolby, and a QT MPEG.2, neither of which I can seem to drag or import into the iDVD program. Any suggestions?
    Thanks and Happy Holidays!
    Susan

You should have asked for someone with Pro Video Apps certification, not just some kid off the sales floor -these folks definitely exist at Apple, in fact they have to according to Apple's own in house standards. Many folks here, including myself also have that certification.
You don't use Compressor to work with iDVD. Drop in the master file directly into it and the transcoding happens internally. David already covered how to make the master file, above.
    According to him....
He showed you the procedure for creating Elementarty Streams for use in software like DVD Studio Pro, not iDVD.
What is the value of compressor then?
The ability to convert video and audio to any other codec that your computer has installed.
Compressor is complicated but it can also be easy. It is also easy to get it wrong.

  • QT Ref Movies Make Compressor Hang

When I drag Non-self contained QT movies to Compressor the black arrow, green circle with a + sign in the middle stay on screen. I have trashed Compressor preferences, did a software update and it still is happening.
I can drag a normal QT movie and it takes that with no problem. This has never happened before. Any ideas?

  • Chapter markers lost from quicktime MOV in compressor

I searched on this topic and can't seem to find it specifically. Soo....
When we export from FCP through compressor to an m2v, chapter markers come through fine and appear in DVD SP just fine. However, an editor of mine exported to a quicktime MOV with the chapter markers. The file, when opened in quicktime, show the chapters there.
However. If I run the MOV through compressor using the same set ups, the chapter markers are striped from the resulting file.
I am wondering if there is something I am missing when I have to do this from an MOV with chapters.
    OR
If there is some way to export or extract the chapter marker information in a way that DVD SP can import. The text track that is in Quicktime has a good deal of other information that DVD SP won't accept as a chapter marker file. Argh.
Can FCP export JUST the chapter marker text. I am obviously going to just go in and add the chapter markers to the track in DVD SP myself. But, as everyone knows doing this after compressing to M2V I will no longer be able to have those markers on the exact frame I want due to GOP.
So, I am asking this for the next time I have an MOV with chapters that I want to convert to mpeg2 and retain the markers for DVDSP.
Just so you know... yes. These markers where properly tagged as chapter markers. (obviously because quicktime shows them as such.)
Thanks guys. I know someone else has had to deal with this somewhere.

I must be losing it. I meant to post in this thread.
My chapters are clean. Pretty good at avoiding anything problematic. I even keep spaces out of my folder names because when I learned to use computers they weren't allowed. (only 128 characters too, if I remember correctly)
I have the previous versions of Final Cut Studio. The recent decline of DVD and the economy has eaten my departments budget to upgrade the OS to Leopard and to Studio 2 so FCP 5.1.4, etc.
Maybe this has been fixed in the upgrade?
My editor has upgraded. So, this would be entirely a moot issue if Apple saw fit to make their projects backwards compatible. (Don't get me started on that) I guess I will have to stay on top of my contract editors and sending me an XML so I can work in their projects. Or giving me the M2V's I ask for already rendered.
Until we can upgrade around here.
    thanks for the help tho.

  • Encoding a 3.5 hr movie with Compressor ??

I have a series of family reunions compiled in FCPHD. Yet the compressor settings only go out to 120 minutes/anamorphic HQuality. I have dual layer DVDs, which will accomodate the entire movie. Will Compressor just stop at
120 minutes ? What settings do I use in Compressor. I have been encoding sections of the movie with Compressor, on DVD/RW to check for errors, and the picture is outstanding. Can some one help me ?
    thanks a bunch in advance,
    rick

All the presets in Compressor are for DVD5 or SL discs.
So the 120 minute preset will encode two hours of footage to fit on a SL Disc.
So you can use the 120 minute preset to encode your 210 minutes to fit on a DL.
It won't stop encoding after 120 minutes.

  • Export QuickTime movie with Compressor running in background

I've rummaged through the forums many times to figure out the absolute fastest way to get an FCP sequence compressed for DVD Studio Pro while maintaining the best quality. I always seem to come up with:
Export QuickTime Movie (not self contained) --> Compressor (DVD best quality settings)
This seems to work fine. I am currently exporting sequences in HDV 1080i60 and they take an extremely long time to export into QT movies. Because of that, I am editing a sequence, waiting for it to export, then dropping it into Compressor. At this point, FCP is available for editing again while Compressor is working, so I repeat the process. However, when I export to QT from FCP while Compressor is still running in the background it seems to take much longer to export.
    Here is my question:
*Am I doing anything wrong by allowing Compressor to work while I am trying to export QT movies from FCP to the same drive?*
Is FCP actually taking longer to export, or is that my imagination? Would it be faster if I only did one at a time, or should it take the same amount of time either way? Am I putting the data on my final movies at risk by doing these things at the same time?
Any help would be appreciated as this is a time sensitive project. I am working in both FCP 5 and 6 on two different computers. 2.5 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4 GB.

Compressor takes a lot of system resources. It will slow the computer down in other tasks.
Because Compressor can run unattended, why not take advantage of that?
Do your regular work that needs you to be there and run the Compressor Batch overnight or at other times when the system is idle.
Compressor's default destination for its processed files is the same directory as the original -writing the files to a different drive might help, at least that way your media drive is not reading and writing at the same time.

  • Missing last frame of my movie when compressor makes QT movie???

    Hello again everyone,
I was compressing movies just fine, trying to figure out what is best compression for my movie when all of a sudden compressor made my last frame of my movie disappear! It shows it in the preview window but not in the batch window preview, and not when it actually compresses. Do I have to re-capture, or add a frame in FCP one frame more to compensate???
    Anyone...

    Thanks for your response.
Forgive me, please, but what is ide?
I guess I should retrace steps a bit.
I created an fla of my primary clip. It's actually 1428 frames.
The last frame has the action: gotoAndPlay("loop start"); (I forgot I'd changed the frame number to a label)
Frame 290 on this fla timeline has the frame label: loop start
It works as expected when exported as .swf.
When I put the primary movie .swf inside of the preloader movie clip's .fla on the third frame of the content layer, and export that .fla as an .swf, that's when I notice the actionscript of the primary movie clip is gone.
Am I right in believing you can nest .swfs and keep actions?
Thank you again for your assistance.

  • Issue uploading a movie from Compressor

    Hi, Forum!
I'm using Final Cut Studio 6.0.4 and I'm editing with standard def material. I have an FTP site that I'm trying to upload quicktime videos to but when I would visit the web page where the video was supposed to show up and it would show the Quicktime logo in the center and a blue progress bar on the bottom right halfway through instead of the video. The progress bar wouldn't move and the video wouldn't play. I looked at the file info in Finder and saw that under "codec" it said "Integer (little Endian), H.264, Timecode." I didn't remember seeing the word "timecode" before, and I also remember that, when it was working, it said it was one audio channel.
I exported using Final Cut and the Quicktime conversion option and changed the sound to mono, and low and behold the word "timecode" was gone and the video could upload fine. Then I tried to export the file using compressor -compressor's frame blending looks much better- and even though I set it with the same settings as in Quicktime conversion, it wouldn't work. I have no idea what that "timecode" thing is about, but if anyone has any thoughts I'd love some help.
    Thanks.

but when I would visit the web page where the video was supposed to show up and it
would show the Quicktime logo in the center and a blue progress bar on the bottom
right halfway through instead of the video. The progress bar wouldn't move and the video wouldn't > play. < </div>
That's not a problem with yor uplad, that's your download situation. You can't play video from most FTP sites, the protocol isn't setup that way; FTP is a file transfer site, not a Web site for viewing files. You must download fils from an FTP server and view them locally. H.264 wouldn't be my choice for a viewing file. What exactly are your trying to accomplish?
Then I tried to export the file using compressor -compressor's frame blending look
much better- and even though I set it with the same settings as in Quicktime conversion,
    it wouldn't work.< </div>
What "wouldn't work?" Not following you.

  • How can I make a WMV movie in Compressor?

    Hi guys,
How can I make a WMV moive for window media player in Compressor?
    Anyone please,
    Thanks in advance,

    Zia:
The player component is free but lets you just play WMV files, not encode.

  • How do I get surround sound after compressing a movie using compressor

I am using compressor to create files for authoring DVDs using DVD Studio Pro 4. I want to get surround sound 5.1. How do I go about doing it? I have using Dolby 2.0 so far. Thanks for your help.

Well, in order to get 5.1 surround sound, you would have to mix the sound in 5.1 surround. Pro Tools and Soundtrack Pro 2 (the one in Final Cut Studio 2) can both do this.

  • Is it normal for Compressor and FCP to analyse an imported progressive H.264 movie as interlaced?file

I am worried my programs are corrupt, because FCP tells me my progressive H.264 file is interlaced (upper first) and Compressor analyses the same movie as bottom first. It should be progressive! Why are they not telling me it's progressive, and why both different to each other? Is it because theyn can't analyse a H.264 file correctly?! Please someone tell me what's going on!
    Thanks, Syd

    Hi Shane, thanks for replying.
The reason I imported the H.264 movie into FCP was to add a short logo clip to the end of it, which was requested after I had exported a self-contained movie from my timeline and already started converting in Compressor... it took 60 hours to deinterlace (set to Best) and convert to H.264 all in one Batch (using only a single target...I did everything in one target, rather than chaining). I know you can't edit in H.264, but I thought adding something to the end and then re-exporting to H.264 might work...
anyway, that's why I imported it, and then noticed that FCP analysed it as being still interlaced... So it occurred to me to check the movie Compressor had exported by importing it back into Compressor to look at what the A/V attributes tab of the inspector said... and it said there it was progressive. So now I was worried my programs were disagreeing, so I went back to square one, converted my original footage to Pro Res in Compressor, then ran that Pro Res footage through Compressor to de-interlace, then reconnected media in my FCP timeline, so that all the clips in the timeline were now progressive. Then I exported that as a self-contained movie and imported into Compressor to convert to H.264. Finally, knowing no other way to analyse the footage, and also wanting to see what FCP would make of it, I imported the movie into FCP, and found the result I put in the first post of this thread... so tried analysing in Compressor again, and found that Compressor thinks it is as I wrote in the first post above.
So now Compressor tells me the file it previously converted to progressive isn't progressive, and thinks it has a different dominant field to the one FCP thinks it has, even though the first time I ran this movie through Compressor it analysed its own result as progressive... so I feel these incompatible analyses are possibly a symptom of something wrong?
How can I analyse a H.264 file if neither FCP or Compressor can do it?

  • Compressor v4.1.3: can't create mpeg2 movie: Error: This Is Null

Using Compressor 4.1.3 and FCPX 10.1.4, I attempt to use compressor to create a MPEG2 movie using the "MPEG2 Program Stream, 15mpbs" option. I was successful once, the first time. But I had a problem with that video in that the audio would play but the video would freeze. So any attempt since then fails with the following error:
Failed 3x Host: [macbook]: Error: this is null.
I don't change any of the video default options. Just using all of the default options  presented to me. And it fails.
Seems like a bug in compressor since I'm not changing any options.
Any idea what the problem might be, or how I can create MPEG2 movies using compressor?
    Thanks, Jim

WWhat are your  computer specs? Have you made system changes? Did you repair permissions?

  • Losing reference movies when trying to batch in Compressor

    Hi -
I am making a number of time code window burns of interviews I shot for a project. The project was shot in AVC-Intra 100 1080p30. I have exported all movies as reference QT movies, not self-contained. When I drag multiple movies into compressor to batch, compressor hangs up and the reference movies become corrupted.
I have done this exact drill before with another project with no problems.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Found answers in FAQs. Thanks.

  • Compressor takes forever to load movies and settings

When I drag a movie into Compressor, or drag a setting onto a movie already in Compressor, it now takes a very very long time for Compressor to ingest it. This is happening both on my Quad tower and on my MacBook Pro. I totally wiped the MacBook Pro and reinstalled both the OS (10.5.6) and FCP Studio 2, then updated everything with software update. Problem is still there. Perhaps it is the way I exported the movies from Final Cut? I usually export reference movies to send to Compressor, this time, I did standalones because I want to save the HDV standalone movies for later use in BluRay projects (when Apple finally...). Any ideas? Your help is appreciated.

Wow! You are my hero of the week! Thanks so much, closing the Preview window before importing solved the problem completely. Now movies and settings import and set instantly.
